They've improved 4+ years later since the broth is more flavorful and has hints of traditional phó broth. I ordered the spicy dac biet and added a short rib, which really made it so much better. This is a review for their banh mi. I've been here a couple of times to pick up food while visiting Huntington Memorial Hospital across the street. Pros- You can order online and the food will be ready fairly quickly. It's better than getting one of the pre-packaged sandwiches from the hospital cafeteria. Cons - The banh mi is pretty basic and bland. The pork was too sweet and the chicken was just ok. There's no spread on the bread so it's a little on the dry side with just the protein, cucumbers, carrots, pickled radish, cilantro and jalapenos. I wouldn't come here if I wasn't at the hospital. Pho on Cali is my go to pho place in the old town area. It's a little restaurant but the food really delivers and it's really convenient to stop by after picking up some groceries next door. I usually order the Pho Tai to go and they're very generous with the amount of bean sprouts you get with your order. The food itself is very delicious and the broth is so soothing. I find myself coming back here quite often to pick up their pho. Moreover, the packaging is very nice because they separate the noodles from the broth to prevent your noodles from getting too soggy while you're transporting the food back home. Every time I've been here, the staff has been incredibly polite and professional so no complaints there. Had another rainy day pho craving and this place hit the spot. Met up with my friend in Pasadena and this place was a convenient location. Inside is simply decored in a narrow space. They also had 2 tables for outside dining. I got the #6 Pho Tai Chin (rare steak, well done brisket). It was good! A decent sized portion too. Definitely what I was craving on a rainy day. Also got the veggie egg rolls which were yummy. My friend got the #13 Pho Cay (bok choy, broccoli, carrots, mushrooms, soft tofu), she liked it. A good veggie option. She also appreciated the vegetable broth option. Low-key fatties like me will probably need a bowl and appetizer to get full. If you're around Pasadena and in the mood for pho, this place is worth checking out. They also have noodle bowls, rice plates, and some banh mi on the menu so I'll definitely be coming back to try more. Service was good. Friendly staff in masks. My sister had a hankering for pho during lunch time, but we were too far away from the usual SGV spots in San Gabriel or ALhambra. So we decided to take a chance on this vietnamese joint in Pasadena. I'd say overall it was decent vietnamese food. It's definitely a higher price point than pho restaurants in san gabriel or alhambra. But it is in pasadena, so i wasn't surprised. Overall for the quality of food, it was decent, If i had more time I'd definitely drive further out. But this place will do in a pinch. The food was decent, but somehthings that I will nitpick about are that portion sizes were on the smaller size (great if you're looking for a light lunch. The main gripe i have abotu eating here was that we ordered spring rolls (goi cuon) you know with rice paper, rice noodles and shrimp and pork and lettuce rolls, that you dip in to the peanut sauce, they had cut each roll in half for display purposes, but it totally destroyed the structural integrity of the roll and everythign just spilled out, there was no way to eat it with your hands with utensils it didn't matter the roll just disintegrated as soon as you picked it up and once it touched the dipping sauce it was the coup de grace, half of whatever you had in your hand was now in the sauce bowl. stick with the pho, that was a decent, or order the rolls but tell them don't not to cut it. Another hidden gem! Okay, so I've came here a few times during my lunch hours a little before covid when they had just opened. I would normally get their rice dish- BBQ Chicken plate & their Thai iced tea because I need something quick to eat and take to go. Today, my best friend and I decided to have Pho for dinner because it was that type of gloomy slightly cold weather. So glad we came here to get Pho because honestly this is one of the best broths I've tasted. Considering the cost of dinner in the surrounding area, $13 was pretty reasonable. The broth had a great flavor. The noodle portion was about average (but filling). Sadly the meat was a bit lighter than I am used to for pho. Given the price, it was a fair value. Avoid This Place - Got Food Poisoning! I ate at Pho on California, and within hours, I was violently ill--vomiting, fever, and dizziness that lasted all night. I suspect serious food contamination. When I looked into other reviews, I saw similar complaints about unsanitary conditions and even dead cockroaches in the restaurant. This is completely unacceptable. The staff didn't seem to care about cleanliness, and the place looked poorly maintained. If the front of the house is this bad, I can't imagine what the kitchen looks like. WOW. JUST WOW. I got a craving for Vietnamese food - as you do on a Friday night after a long day of work. My hubby and I decided we needed to find a good Vietnamese spot in Pasadena and found Pho on California. As soon as we stepped out of the car we could smell the pho broth. We ordered the pork banh mi sandwich, the short rib combo pho with brisket & thin slices of steak, a pork spring roll and pork egg rolls. The spring rolls came first - the pork is deliciously marinated and so tender. I do wish it had a little more mint in it, but the flavor was still delish. The peanut sauce was a nice accompaniment - especially when I added a little sriracha which is something I always do. My husband ate the banh mi - he said it was fantastic and it looked incredible. He said he would definitely want to order it again. The egg roll - came with a couple of pieces of lettuce. I would love it if it had more herbs to wrap it all up with, but it was fine. I might not order that one again. The best thing - the pho. That blew me away. There's a big short rib sticking out of the bowl and they give you a pair of scissors with which to cut away the meat into the bowl. It's a pretty large bowl too and there is plenty of noodles, bean sprouts, thinly shaved onion, green onion, and slices of beef. As soon as you cut into the beef with the scissors, you can see that the short rib just falls apart. It's so satisfying. The beef slices - I'm used to having to chew beef a bit - these slices of beef were so tender - they also fell apart in my mouth. The broth was mouth swirling yumminess. I added sriracha - I can't help myself. It was one of the best bowls of pho I've ever had. SO excited to have such a fantastic Vietnamese restaurant in our area!!! We can't wait to come back - I just don't know if I'll be able to get away from always ordering the pho! But I'm dying to try the vermicelli bowls. That pork is calling my name! read more

This hole in the wall is an absolute gem! Located in a small center and surrounded by multiple other businesses, parking is plentiful and the wait time was non-existent. My best friend and I came here on a cold night for some warm Pho. Their broth is so amazingly savory/tasty - real ones know you have to taste the soup BEFORE overloading it with sauces to know what kind of quality you are working with. I'm so sad I had a bad experience here. I really enjoy the food and I also enjoyed the customer service until yesterday! My sister drove two hours to see my kids at Huntington hospital! After her visit, I told her how amazing this place was across the street. So we went there after and enjoyed some great food . We ordered wings and spring rolls for appetizers and plates for our main meal. Our wings took so long to come out I had already finished my food ! I had to rush back to the hospital so I told them very kindly we have already finished our appetizer and our main meal I need to go and I don't have time to eat the wings or a place to take them back into the hospital can she just take them back and give me a refund. She walked away and pretended like she didn't hear me. I felt so embarrassed! I told my sister I had to go and if she can please just let them know again we don't have time to eat the wings. My sister stayed back and explained again, the lady ignored her and she was forced to take the wings: they didn't want to refund us or even take the wings. I have worked in the food industry for years and considering we always had good customer service I was so surprised. So unfortunately my sister took the wings back on her two hour drive back home and had to pay for it. I came here a few times before the pandemic. My friend found it weird to eat pho along with chili cheese fries, but I enjoyed it because they were really good. The spring roll is ok. Not sure if it's because it uses regular lettuce instead of romaine lettuce. That kind of affected the texture and flavor in my opinion. A few weeks ago, I was craving for banh mi.
