I come here regularly... for the awesome soup base and the diverse meat choices. I usually get #14 -- pretty much with everything in it. The tendon however isn't great -- chewy like an old piece of shoe. But all other meats (beef flank, tripe, etc) are all great. read more

I usually enjoy the pho than brothers chain restaurant and being of Vietnamese descent myself, am a bit of a pho addict. When I want a fast and cheap Bowl of pho, this is where I would go. I guess I got what I paid for... On rainy days the windows are all fogged up, if you come alone or even in a pair, they seat you at a large community table in the middle of the restaurant. Last time I was here, my broth was luke warm, noodles crunchy and meat dripping blood. My friends have even complained about seeing dead bugs in their noodle bowl. How disgusting. read more

Used to be my go to Pho restaurant. Now they have more customers, the quality of the soups have gone down sharply. The flavor is very blend and watery. Cheap and fast. You can get your food within 10 mins if not faster. On top of that, it serves some of the best tasting pho around this area. I used to order number nine, but then discovered veggie pho with regular broth, so satisfying, especially on rainy days. One con about this place is that the servers take your order very fast. They come, ask you what you want ( a lot of the times they just stand there looking at you), and as soon as you finish saying your order they walk away. If you have any special requests (like asking for regular broth in veggie pho) you gotta say it fast or you'll have to call them back. Also, they don't really repeat your order so if you're in a large party, you'll never know if they missed anything unless you ask. read more

This place has really tasty Pho. The service is super quick. It's a Pop-In/Pop-Out kind of place. The prices can't be beat either.

This was my second time eating pho, and I am hooked. I had the flank steak and brisket. The meat was tender and the broth had terrific flavor. The service was so quick, we had our food within 5 minutes of walking in the door. It's a great stop on a rainy Seattle day. Greeted by a waiter with a not so friendly attitude. As we sat down he took our orders. Shortly after there was a COCKROACH climbing about the table near the utensil/sauce tray. I called the waiter over to let him know. He squished the bug onto our table and left. No apologies of what had just happened. I had lost my appetite and decided to leave for another restaurant. As I was getting up the waiter placed the food on the table. I was hesitant on staying, but I did anyways because I didnt want to leave after they had already prepared the food. After we ate I went to pay. We were overcharged for our meal and i kept telling the cashier that we did not order what she was charging. She talked back and forth with her employee. They were speaking in Vietnamese, which I am fluent in. They were trash-talking me. She wouldnt back down, so I paid whatever she charged me and left. Never coming back here again. Cleanliness is definitely not a priority, neither is customer service. read more

Than Bros Pho should be introduced to all UW students in orientation its that good. I imagine they would teach you that as a freshman you'll likely want to order a large; you want to get the most of your money, you're a starving college student! You're probably still growing! Somewhere around the middle of your sophomore year you'll realize that you don't need a large, even if it is only around 50 cents more, save it for the coffee you'll need to finish all your work on time. Around senior year the thought sets in that all that you're getting old and you don't need all that food, maybe its time to start ordering a small. Lunch for under $5 bucks w/ a dessert! During this lesson they will also teach you how to properly eat a cream puff so that you don't end up with cream all over your shirt. That trick comes in handy. They'll tell you that you don't need to worry about going to Than Bros alone, its acceptable here, you're an adult now, you have no one to impress. Just beware, Than Bros Pho has been confirmed by government authorities to be an addictive substance: once you start you can't stop. Favorite Bowl: Medium Pho Ga, one outer rotation of hosin sauce and an inner circle of rooster sauce. Lime, sprouts and basil are essential. read more

I can't knock it one bit, but eventually, you'll move on to other restaurants, where the broth is nuanced and you wouldn't dare doctor it up with the lengthy spirals of Sriracha and plum sauce you'd add here. My favorite place to go for Pho in Seattle. The Pho is good, but what's awesome (and maybe a little strange) is that they give everyone a cream puff, BEFORE the meal! The portions are huge. The Large looks like a wash basin (we've used it as a challenge amongst friends - whoever can finish a Large gets their meal paid for by the rest of us). The place has a hole-in-the-wall feel to it, but in my opinion, that's the first sign of potentially good Pho being served. Parking sucks in the U district, but Than Brothers is located a little further from the main 45th/Ave intersection, so there is usually some side-street parking available. read more

My childhood consisted of pho from Pho Than Brothers at the Edmonds location. So when I saw the bad reviews for the University District location, I thought it couldn't be true. I have come here for dinner twice recently and I felt satisfied the first time but not the second. Service here is impeccably fast. The workers are nice but don't speak much and they don't really need to. The food I guess is hit or miss. Don't get me wrong, it's the same ingredients each time but sometimes the broth doesn't seem as flavorful as it should be. All in all, their pho is not bad, but I'll be sticking with the Pho Than in Edmonds, and trying to find a better pho place on campus. read more

Do not eat here! Public health hazard! Poor food prepping! I was served mealy bug-infested vegetables (white bugs on the leaves see photos below). I instantly knew they were mealy bugs and mealy eggs because I work at a greenhouse and I deal with pest such as these all the time. Check your fresh vegetables before you eat them and don't always trust restaurants to prep all your food properly. Also Seattle/King County assesses all the restaurants in Seattle and grade their food preparation practices and places the assessment on a curve for a grade and This restaurant rated "good" which is actually terrible because the curve is set for top 80% to be in the "excellent" category. After alternating between Pho Than Brothers and a few other pho places on the Ave, Than Brothers falls way short. More than once I have ordered pho at a time that was in-between regular mealtimes and I found that the noodles were overcooked and mushy, and the broth tasted like it had been thinned out with water. I love all Than Brother's Pho Restaurants. My favorite is the location on Broadway, in Capitol Hill. I'm sure it's all the same but for me, the Capitol Hill location is worth the drive. the five stars may be partially attributed to the fond memories of hungover mornings/afternoons at this than brothers during college after a late night. it was a perfect place to reconvene at the big table and retell the stories of the night/share photos/nurse hangovers. but its great pho. you would think that you cant mess up pho, but ive seen it done. they are always fast and friendly enough here. they close at 9, which seems like it would be nonproblematic but i always seem to get a craving or wrangle my friends together at 845 and its a bummer. they also forget drinks from time to time or other minor quick service mistake. but the pho makes up for it. go for the extra noodles, it makes a world of difference. dont ask questions, just trust me. read more

WOWZERS!! This was delicious. The menu only consists of pho, so if you're in search of a rice plate - I would look elsewhere. With the location so close to UW it was constantly busy. The pho comes in 3 sizes: small, medium, and large. The small was definitely a large enough portion for me. This was probably the best pho I have had in all of the Pacific Northwest. The pho is pretty standard, service is quick, and it's reasonably priced but the service is terrible. The waiter took my order with a sort of bored, indifference and after that I was basically alone. They're not attentive at all and just sit in the back of the kitchen until more people come in. Definitely at least 5 better pho restaurants within a 5 minute walk of here. I'd say the only reasons to go here would be that you either absolutely do not have five minutes to walk a little further, or you just want to try all the pho places on the Ave. Walk on my friend. read more

I really wanted to like this place. So as I entered I checked over the usual signs on whether this place was legit. Surly looking staff that looks like they could give a shizz? Check. Decor that looks straight out of my old community college with its vinyl chairs and tables? Check. This place only serves pho and pho alone? Wow this place must be serious in its pho!?! But then I taste the broth... WTF?!!!??? This ain't even real broth. This is the stuff you can buy in a can or in the pre-made mix. And worse they try to hide the deficiency with MSG. Enough MSG to tingle my tongue for the next few hours. I ended up dry-heaving later on in the night. Nasty....If a place serves only pho at least it should use the real broth not some mix. read more

There's a newspaper review on the table where we sat that translated Than Brothers' pho sizes pretty accurately: small is really massive, and large is a receptacle fit for burying a small animal. I made the mistake of ordering a medium and I barely finished it. (I eat a lot.) It was cheap, tasty (not the best pho, but definitely average or above), warm and the free cream puffs are always good. The only problem with the place is that it was kind of run down and dirty; but then again I didn't expect it to be nice and shiny. read more
