Stopped by for dinner and some Oxtail Pho with a friend tonight. Service sucked! I can only assume that the place was empty because the 50% off promotion is over. So ... one would think my friend and I would get some excellent service. Was I wrong! We walked in and there are four employees behind the counter and no one acknowledged us nor approached us. We approached them and asked if we should just seat ourselves. A young gentleman hands us menus and disappears. About fifteen minutes later, I finally walk to the counter where the staff is still congregating, to ask if I should place my order with them at the counter or if someone will wait on us at the table. No followup after the food was served - not even to ask if we'd like more water. Again, I had to get someones attention and ask for more water. We didn't even wait to have a bill brought to us. We just walked up to the counter to pay. By the way, cash only. Food wasn't bad however taste somehow seems to diminish when you're annoyed with the awful, lack of service. Ordered pho Tai ga^n bo` vie^n and soda chanh, the pho was dead cold ( put the bean sprout in the bowl and they stayed crunchy cause the soup was not even warm, and because the soup was not hot, you can see so much grease in the broth), the soda lime drink in the 10 oz dirty cup with so much sugar. very bad practiced. read more

First of all, this is one of those "Cash Only" places. Secondly, the older woman at the cashier is RUDE as heck and was coughing & sneezing while handling the orders and the to-go foods. She couldn't understand us over the phone, so we came in to order. The reason why I gave an extra star was because the younger woman who took over taking my order was nice and explained kindly that I can't order an extra ox tail for my large soup. That's fine. My Dad took me here for dinner. The place was kinda quiet so we were seated immediately. Service here was quick. I ordered their small oxtail pho. It had big hunks of meat and bone in it. It took some work to get the meat off the bone and the bones took up a lot of space in the bowl. Some of the fat was too chewy and funky tasting. The bone broth was just ok. There was a generous amount of sides like Thai basil and limes that they provided. It was a godd, cheap meal for a cold night. We had to wait a bit for the check. This restaurant is located inside the Thuan Phat grocery store. It is pretty big so there are a lot of tables and seats. We came on a rainy Sunday afternoon and it wasn't too busy so we were seated pretty quickly. We ordered Pho Tai, steamed rice with pork chops and fried egg, and egg rolls. My mom and my sister had the pho tai (beef broth, rice noodles, and rare steak - $5.95). It tasted like your average pho - nothing too special. My mom said she tasted a lot of msg in the broth. I shared the steam rice and pork chops ($7.95) with my dad. It came with lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, and fish sauce. I liked the pork chops - they were very flavorful and not too chewy. My dad said they were overcooked, though. The egg rolls ($5.95) comes with 5 rolls, lettuce, cucumbers, and fish sauce. I really enjoyed the egg rolls - they were perfectly crispy, didn't fall apart after a few bites or when I dipped it in fish sauce, and had a decent amount of meat inside. Overall, I thought this place was pretty average. Nothing stood out to me among the many other Vietnamese restaurants in the area. This place is so good! I think in order to further digest Pho in OC, there's budget pho and there's quality pho. Now I didn't grow up around Pho being served at home nor am I Vietnamese to completely judge but I eat enough to know what I like at least, and yo, this place it. My girl got the oxtail pho, freaking tender and so tasty. I tried another oxtail in Las Vegas and somewhere in Garden Grove and by far this beats both by a mile. I got the Pho Tai Chin, and the broth was very delicious. Didn't really need to add Hoisin sauce or Sriracha (well I can't really eat spicy cause I'm a little kitty lol). Meat was an ample amount, enough that I can finish it and I was very satisfied. A little more (maybe a strip or two would be perfect). I've been to Pho Vie a few times, my experience was so-so. I must add that this is a CASH ONLY restaurant, but they do have an ATM machine available. My most recent visit, I had ordered take-out. I had ordered Egg Rolls, Pho Tai and Bo Vien, and also Pho Dac Biet. When I arrived, it was ready. When I got home to put together my pho, I had noticed that they have forgotten to include the Bo Vien (meatballs) in both pho bowls =( I was VERY DISAPPOINTED! However, the portions are soooo big! Echoing the other yelpers, you really can't beat 50% off Oxtail Pho! You're paying only $3.50 for a large bowl with 3 big chunks of oxtail. Oxtail is usually really expensive so this is an amazing deal! The broth itself is really light and clear, but unfortunately, it also translated into a lack of flavor. I had to keep adding oyster sauce and sriracha to my broth in order to enhance the flavors. If it wasn't for the tender oxtail, the pho itself would have been quite bland. Even with the addition of basil, bean sprouts, and freshly squeezed lemon, I thought the broth lacked flavor. As for the noodles, they were perfectly cooked with a nice chewiness to them. oxtail pho is deeelish. Went here with the sibs and niece after a nice walk in the beach. Sometimes when you've been staying up late, a nice bowl of soup hits the spot. In this place it was the oxtail soup. Oh Yum. So fulfilling. Menu is clear and straight to the point, nothing with mystery ingredients. I remember ordering at another place in Bolsa where they had "Special Soup" with the ingredients in Vietnamese. Was shopping at the market next door and for convenience sake stopped in here to grab a bite to eat. I was surprised at how clean the place is. Since it's a pho place, I decided to get the pho, but couldn't decide whether to get the pho ga or the pho tai with tripe and tendon. After much deliberation I got the one with the beef, tripe and tendon. For a small bowl it was just under 5 dollars. It arrived shortly and I was happy to see that they were quite generous with the condiments. The plate included bean sprouts, basil and ngo gai (sawtooth herb), jalapeno and a large wedge of lime. The broth was on the lighter side -- not heavily accented with star anise. It wasn't bad. I was however unhappy that the broth wasn't scorchingly hot. It was hot, but just not hot enough. The herbs didn't wilt well due to the lack of heat, but it was okay. The pho noodles were a tad overcooked so they weren't al dente. They were very generous with the tendon, tripe and beef though. A small bowl was more than enough for me. The menu also includes broken rice, bun and other things such as eggrolls and summer rolls. When you're done with your meal, they give you a complimentary bowl of che. I wouldn't make a special trip here but if I was in the neighborhood, I wouldn't hesitate to stop in again for something to eat. 3.5 stars. read more

I dunno why people go to a pho place and order something but pho and bitch about it. I find this place to be quite alright. I usually order to go so I don't get the horrible costumer service that everyone complains about. And I don't drink their tap water and bitch about it because tap water tastes nasty like everywhere else.... duh. I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with my fellow yelpers here - the pho (even at 50% off) is not good. My bf loves loves loves oxtail...the odds of him enjoying his meal exponentially increase if oxtail is there. As we drove down Beach Blvd. one day, we saw the 50% off oxtail pho and he had to try it. We came today for lunch. The bf ordered the oxtail pho large (~$3.50 at half off) and I ordered the chicken pho in small (~$6). The restaurant is very clean and connected to the Thuan Phat Supermarket. I didn't really like the fact that they charge 50 cents for water but that seems to be the new trend these days...charging for tea and water. When the pho came out, I have to say it looked great. The large size looked ginormous and I didn't know if the bf would be able to finish. In the oxtail pho, they gave three large pieces of the oxtail and also provide fork, knife and plate for you to dig into it. The oxtail tasted just fine...could have been slightly more tender though. The soup/broth was ok - I thought it was a little sweet tasting but bf thought it was too salty (after he put in a lot of hoisin). What seemed like too much food turned out to be not enough and left the bf pining for more to eat. As for the chicken pho, the best part was the actual chicken. There were about 15 pieces of sliced chicken breast that was tender and moist - a lot more than I anticipated. However, that's the end of the good for me. The noodles with chicken pho here are wide and I much prefer the thinner ones...wide noodles have too much surface area so you actually end up eating less noodles. Plus, the noodles were a bit tough. The broth had no detectable flavor...I know that chicken soup should be lighter than the beef but there needs to be something! It tasted very watered down. I was not happy with my bowl of pho - in fact, I gave the bf some of my noodles and chicken to help me finish it off. Our total bill was under $13 (pay in cash only here)...a very good price but obviously a sacrifice made in exchange for flavor. I personally would rather pay more money for good pho than pay half price for mediocre pho. I will probably end up going here again just so bf can get to eat oxtail but I'll be looking to order something that will make me happy. read more

Yikes. So, bf and I had come here pretty often before. But, with our current workloads and diets, we've only been coming around here maybe once a year, now. Came in the other day. Didn't get much notice when we walked in. We chose a table, they gave us placemats and the menus. Gor our normal #1 regular size (for me) and #1 large size (for hubby). Floor was disgusting. They used to actually mop and sweep before, but it looked like they hadn't done either in a very long time. The side of the table was sticky, and tables all around us hadn't been bussed yet. But there were at least 4 employees kind of just hanging around and not really doing much. Taste was okay. Soup was super-hot. Maybe it's because it's winter and they want to make sure people are warmed up? Our chopsticks still had sanitizer on it. I mean, yes, the chopsticks were sanitized, but there's a problem if the sanitizer hadn't been washed yet. Luckily, no food poisoning. But, likely not coming back. So disappointed! We'll have to go to Cerritos or back to Rowland Heights for a satisfying bowl where the toilet bowl won't fear for its life with the aftermath.
