As a local-ish, (Reno) I am sorry to report, but I wanted to let people know that the food at Pianeta is not good at all now!! we were extremely disappointed with dinner last night. The prices have stayed the same (glass of wine is $25, shrimp pasta is $45) but the food is awful now. my two stars are just because the building is beautiful and the staff were pleasant. Our sausage marinara pasta had four split sausages on it that were cooked so hard as to be black and stiff , the pasta was sort of hard but not al dente. I'm not sure how they did that. It was too much sauce, and the flavor was mediocre. the shrimp pasta had shrimp skewers that were totally dry and overcooked. The pasta itself was hard and kind of cold and the sauce was mediocre. The Insalata Mista was fine, but nothing special, and nothing Italian. I lived in Italy for a year, and when I first went to Pianeta, my opinion was that it was a pretty good approximation of Italian food. I would now put the food on par with Olive Garden, but less generous portions. What a disappointment for paying a bill like that at the end of the night - furthermore, it was a third date and really put a damper on things. read more

After a corvette run to Tahoe, our friends invited us to dinner at Pianeta. We have been to Truckee many times but have never tried this restaurant. Boy are we glad we went! The service was excellent ! Taylor and Almandine were 2 of the best we've ever had and we eat out a lot. Taylor offered great recommendations from wine to the main course. I had the chicken marsala which was delicious! My husband and our friend had the seafood risotto and they said it was amazing! Full of flavor and lots of seafood. We did have dessert. My husband and our friends had a chocolate dessert and I had the crème brûlée. Although the chocolate lovers enjoyed their selection, I felt my brûlée was gritty. Taylor, seeing that I didn't finish my dessert took the cost off of our tab without asking. That's service. All if the employees from start to finish we supper friendly and accommodating. It's a small restaurant in downtown Truckee, so I would 100% recommend getting a reservation if you're going for dinner. Very romantic - perfect for date night. Here's what we (group of 5) ordered: - Mista Salad: delicious and flavorful. 5 stars - Panzanella Salad: heirloom tomatoes MADE this dish. 5 stars - Bolognese Ravioli: the best. I order this every time and it never disappoints. HUGE portion. 5 stars - Veal Meatballs: Meatballs were good but the pesto sauce was super rich. 3 stars - Parmesan Polenta side: if you love creamy polenta, order this. 5 stars - Shrimp pasta: Really creamy and delicious if you like a lighter shrimp pasta. 4 stars - Espresso cake (their special dessert): This was so freaking good. I only was planning on having a bite but ended up pretty much eating half. Not super sweet or heavy so it was perfect after a filling meal. 5 stars Michelle, the manager, is super sweet too. Came for dinner to celebrate a bday. Table RSVP was ready. Four of us started with the 1 bruschetta app and 1 Salsicce app. Perfect size for sharing amongst four. My leg chops main was great. Other mains rated very good : grilled sausage with Tagliatelle, and grilled prawns. Salmon main was meh. A Tiramisu dessert, good size but too chocolatey, with a candle was offered ( BUT not comped). Service was solid. Would NOT recommend to an immobile guest. Split level floors and tricky stairs to restroom could be dangerous. I went there last night saturday night. So crowded. Even though this weekend, Tahoe seem to have light-trafffic. 1) did not make reservation. And they told me to wait around the bar area, restaurant is so small, no place to stand. 2) Restaurant is in an old historic building, only has 15 tables. If you want to eat , has to make reservation 2 weeks ahead and every day, they got 100 phone call for reservation. 3) Met the restaurant owner, he is nice guy, full of energy 4) People worked in the bar is very nice, even they are so busy. They take care of people. I sat in bar with husband and kid. Hard to have 3 seats together. Has to wait 30+ minutes. 5) Food is amazing good. Their chef is reallyl good 6) you could pay $25 buy the kitchen one round of beer. I did. 7) Dessert is nice 8) The fireroast eggplant soup is so good. 9) I have Pork oso bucco , husband has steak. My fiancé and I were lucky enough to get a last-minute reservation that opened up. Coming up to Truckee, I didn't hold out that there would be an amazing Italian restaurant with fair prices, great food and a great atmosphere...but low and behold, here I was, at Pianeta. A great friend of mine recommended it, scratch that...demanded it, for her dinner reception the night before her wedding. My family surprised me with a short getaway to Tahoe and a reservation at Pianeta to celebrate my 50th birthday. My 2 grown children surprised me from Boston and NY. We had a 7:15 reservation and due to some circumstances out of our control, we were exactly 12 minutes late. We walked in with a smile, super excited to dine there and celebrate the family being together for the first time in a while and tell the hostess that we were there for a 7:15 reservation. She stood there and starts to lecture me very firmly about how being late really screws with the kitchen staff and that I CANNOT do something like this. She said she'd let us come in and eat anyway. At the time of making the reservation, it was stated that it was my 50th birthday. I was totally taken aback and started to tear up and turned back to my family. I was about to say forget dinner, let's just go back. At this time, another man (maybe a manager?) waved us over with a big smile and said "C'mon! Lets go sit and celebrate" If she was going to seat us anyway, WHY did she have to give us the lecture? The food was amazing and the service was terrific. I just wish the experience was not tainted by the very unnecessarily rude hostess. read more

Cut to the chase: We had the most appalling customer-facing experience. I would never consider giving Pianeta another chance. Staff are a liability - hostile and aggressive. I require a trained service dog for my medical condition. Service animals are not pets; they are well-behaved and provide a real tangible service to their human owners. When making reservations for this restaurant, I made sure to note that I am accompanied by a service dog. We arrive at the restaurant: "Hi, I have a 5:15 reservation...", to which I was abruptly cut off by the aggressive male manager/host/owner. "I do not allow dogs in my restaurant." Full stop, showing no interest in gathering more information to understand the circumstances. "...this is a trained and registered service dog, I provided this information when making the reservation". My canine companion was seated calmly on leash during the entire interaction. What was the point of requesting "any special notes" on the reservation if it was not reviewed? Why not call to let me know of the issue? He continued, "This is a privately-owned business, and I do not allow dogs...". Whether a public or private facility is an irrelevant justification to the situation, and in clear violation of federal and state ADA codes which prohibit disability discrimination. I was taken aback by this attitude. Again, no civil discourse - he was abrupt, aggressive, power-tripping on the idea of preventing us from getting seated. The hostile nature of his very public and loud interrogation continued: "What task is the dog trained to perform, and how does he perform it?" I responded.l openly and kindly. Businesses are allowed to ask these questions. The conversation should have stopped there. He pressed on as to whom trained the dog - me or a professional trainer (again, another irrelevant stream of inquiry and illegal to ask). Nonetheless, I showed him his certification of training, as well as his service dog license. He looked at me up and down, and proceeded to place his judgement on whether or not my disability was legitimate. He then stated that I did not have a "legitimate ADA disability," not even knowing what my disability is. . This was going downhill. As a business owner/manager/employee, he is entitled to clarify the tasks that my dog is trained to perform for me, but he is certainly not entitled to the details of my medical history. Apparently, restaurant staff are now credentialed to make these determinations. At this point, clearly feeling unwelcomed by this interaction, I politely said, "Ok, thank you," and we left (don't ask me why I said "thank you" because I honestly don't know). And in his last act of petty aggression, he baited us in a very loud and declarative voice (making sure the people behind us could hear him) with, "Will you be canceling the reservation?" No, we were not canceling but he was obviously not honoring the reservation. We then meandered down to Trokay Restaurant with the service dog and were treated to respectful, exceptional service and a fine dining experience that evening. A true pleasure (yes, it is a different price point altogether, but well worth every penny). My final words: Pianeta, who is this clown you have running the front of the house? He is a legal liability. read more

The entire staff here was so amazing and kind. Indoor dining at the restaurant had just opened up a day before we went so we made sure to call to make a reservation a couple of nights in advance. For the most part we just wing it when we pick places to eat on vacation but this one was one of two places we added to our itinerary with no intent to change based on glowing recommendations. I called to make the reservation while we were winding through mountains and service was a little spotty. Even when the guy couldn't hear me for a solid couple of minutes, he held out until service reconnected which I thought was above and beyond customer service. When we arrived for dinner we were sat in a cozy corner booth. We loved the ambiance of the place and you could tell the other patrons were really enjoying their experience as well. We started out with a small bread basket and the bruschetta two ways. I personally wasn't a huge fan of the bruschetta, but I'm also a fairly picky eater. My husband thought it was good though. I ordered the ravioli bolognese and he got the veal meatballs and pesto. Our food was so delicious! We could not have ordered two more perfectly prepared dishes. I hate when pasta dishes have big chunky tomatoes, and this one did not. I was extremely pleased. At the end of dinner I convinced my husband to get the crime brûlée and, omg, it was just perfect. By far one of the best versions I have ever had. There is also a really cool option on the dessert menu where you can buy a round of beers for the kitchen at the end of the night which I thought was really neat and also very well deserved after they provided such a great dinner for us. The price was not outrageous for two mains, dessert, a bottle of wine, and an appetizer. Definitely a top recommendation for dining to anyone in the area! read more

Ive been walking by this place for years without setting foot in it. I think being open only for dinner basically made it hard due to the weird schedule ive kept for the area. One night the place we wanted to go was closed so i remembered it was time to try Pianeta. We got in Late but they nicely still seated us. As we sat down we looked next to us and a family was celebrating an occasion. Turns out the adults just happened to be sitting next to us at a restaurant in San Francisco two nights prior. What are the chances of that? Crazy right? So we got to chatting and such. Very cool Got the carpaccio, crab cakes, lamb chops, and tagliatelle, which were all solid. Portions are fairly big too so we ended up taking some of it home. The space is split into some weird leveling and is fairly dimly lit. They were all very friendly and made us feel at home. My fiancé and I came here after eyeing the place for years. I'm not sure why we didn't come here sooner! We did not have a reservation, but it was a rainy night and not very crowed in downtown. We were able to be seated after 30 minutes at a table. We ordered the caprese and two pastas. Everything was delicious! Our server, Gary, was fantastic and very knowledgeable and attentive. We also ordered the Tiramisu for dessert which is a must! Our meal was also fairly priced for how much we ordered. We will definitely be coming again, next time making sure we have a reservation! It was 6 o'clock Sunday evening and I didn't have a reservation for this highly rated restaurant. It's my last night in town so i decided to try my luck. Luckily, there was a table available to the left of the entrance on the side walk. I ordered a glass of house white wine, a Caesar salad with added anchovies and the highly rated angel hair pasta with 3 grilled prawns added as side. The salad was good: cold, crisp and the anchovies were excellent. I was very disappointed with the pasta dish, however. The prawns are very small and a little overcooked. The pasta was bland as well as generic as instant ramen. I didn't finish it even though the portion was small. Mid way through the meal i also noticed metallic and ash-like flakes dropping onto my table, a few in my dish and one in my water. I asked the server but he only answered: hmmm I'm not sure and walked away. I asked the table next to me but his table was fine. I bit into one and it reminds me of eating shellfish and there's sand in it. Ouch. Overall, i would rate lower but we are in the middle of a pandemic. I'm sure they are trying to stay afloat. I would spend my $57 (everything with tip) elsewhere though. read more

Dinner reservations for a Saturday night in Truckee at Pianeta. A little Italian food sounded good after a day of Riding ATVs. Classy lower level and bar area. Upstairs has seating for meals. The menu looked good, but we didn't get a warm and fuzzy feeling here. The menu has a couple notes that seemed odd; the service was good at times and slow at others. The food was pretty good, but as soon as desert was finished a Manager came by and asked us to leave because another large party was due to come in. While we understand, the combination of events lead me to my rating. I would try another place before we go back. read more

My family and I were in Lake Tahoe for a week for our family reunion. We were looking for a good restaurant in the area that could sit us all. We love Italian and had been disappointed by other restaurants in the area all week, so this dinner had to be special, since it was our last one together. We only waited about 25 minutes to be seated, considering we were a large crowd, that was fast. The servers were attentive, courteous, and very effective. The food was great, we ordered several appetizers and we all tried something different to compare. We were happy we had chosen this place.
