My review is limited to two menu items - fries and milkshakes. Both, superb!. The firies are "old school". Hand cut and just the right amount of grease. The servings are very generous. What makes them extra special to me is they are Five Guys style before there were five guys were even a twinkle in their dad's eyes. Now, about the service and ambiance. This is a family run burger stand and in a classic building. It screams 1950's. Wonderful!!! The place is immaculate and the grounds where you can enjoy your meal are a park-like setting. I wish my summer flowers looked so nice! In short, the food is great but, to me, the whole experience even better. You will never get that experience artificially replaced at any franchise!! So,I went to Pick Quick today to get lunch for the family. I walked up to place my order and the first thing the cashier said when she saw my credit card was, "Sorry, we are cash only since 1949 (or sometime close to that). I had $12 in cash so I just ordered 2 burgers. I was going to order 6 cheeseburgers and 2 fries if I could have used my debit card. It's ridiculous! We ordered 2 drinks and fries. The fries were tasty, would like more for the price $3.95, not sure if what we purchased was the standard amount but never the less they were good. String style fries with house seasoning, ours wasn't too salty. The restaurant is cash ONLY!!!! So plan accordingly when placing orders. Soft bun, slightly messy, the grilled onions were life. Everything worked together perfectly. It was just a damn good burger. The fries were a 6 or 7/10 to me, a bit soggy so probably won't get those next time. But that burger doe. Pretty comparable to in n out, just messier. So I want to give them more stars because the banana split is awesome, but the food is just ehh. I ordered a grilled cheese adding pickles and a tomato. The American cheese was not even melted and definitely not grilled! The tomato was fresh and it was served on a bun. That would have been really good if it was grilled. The fries were ok. I wish they had fry sauce. Husband had a cheeseburger and said it was ok but not what he had wanted it to be. It was raining so we ate in the car, but had there been sun there's a beautiful large picnicking area that would be enjoyable. Dessert time! Being a California transplant and an in n out snob I have to say Pick quicks is the best burger place I've ever had. The fact that this location now takes cards is even more stellar! Then owner and his momma are awesome. His employees are very kind at both locations. Any time someone mentions wanting a burger I always recommend pick quick. Honestly I only recommend pick quick. If it was between in n out and pick quick I'd say which ever was closer. Hopefully the Herron family keep the quality as high as it has been. As of last week it's still amazing. We were in town for some business and were hungry for some good food. Food was delicious and quickly prepared. Service was amazing and professional. We loved how there were these cute table and benches in the back of the restaurant with the pick-quick embossed into the wood. Very cute detail! Also came in a smaller size presumably for kids. Even with the thin patty, this was a filling burger. The fries, oh the fries... Crispy, slender and with just the right amount of salt. The fresh blackberry shake was heavenly. The single burger simply doesn't cut it with a paper thin slice of meat that does not stretch out enough to cover the size of the bun; in fact, I tasted only the tomato when I ate it! Fries were hot and fresh. The shake I had was quite thick and creamy. So, it was about $12 for 2 single cheese burgers, an order of fries and a vanilla shake. Believe or not, I was still hungry! Ahh Pick Quick - a family fave for years, my dad and uncle will drive up here all the way from south Tacoma just to have a burger and a shake. When I was young I didn't get it -- "take me to McDonald's, it's fine!", I said -- but now as a person who chooses their own meals, I get it. It's part nostalgia, part good greasy grubbin', part ease (parking and low prices). You can sit on the lawn with your family, or grab one of the many picnic tables. The kitchen/cooking area is about the size of my bathroom yet they have 5 to 6 ladies working back there. Whatever it is they are doing, keep it up! Placed my order for a double bacon cheeseburger with no sauce, an order of fries and a large mountain blackberry shake. Total came out to $10.26. Here is how everything stacked up.............. Double Bacon Cheeseburger- This thing looked great. The patties were kind of small though. Thats the only knock on this place. The cheeseburger itself tasted really good though. They use nice sized pieces of crispy bacon too which I loved. I might add another patty next time (if there is ever a next time) to make it a triple. That would be a filling burger. French Fries- These are what In N Out french fries strive to be. These things were wonderful! Freshly cut, tasted great. They were cooked perfectly too. Golden brown and delicious! I could have easily eaten another order. Mountain Blackberry Shake- Um.....its a contender for BEST SHAKE EVER! This thing was large and in charge. They use a TON of fresh blackberries blended with soft serve ice cream. Every single sip through the straw you would pull up pieces of blackberries to chew on. It was the best part of the meal. I absolutely loved it. Do not skip a shake if you come here...you will be missing out. My father in law got a chocolate one and he was raving about it too. Great shakes! Ambiance was what sets this apart though. They have been here since 1949. They must be doing something right. The lady who took my order was super friendly as was the lady who handed me my food. There are a ton of picnic benches to eat at and a bunch of floral easel like things all around. It almost looks like a cemetery right when you pull up to it. We have passed this place a few times but yesterday we were hungry and decided to stop. It was amazing to see how many people there were inside that tiny building but they worked together like clockwork. More surprising was how the guy at the window was so friendly and helpful, and seemed to really want to keep the customers happy. As for the food, the burgers and fries were both really good and prices very reasonable. With no inside seating we were happy to find so many picnic tables on a nice grassy area with shade trees on the hot day. Many consider Pick Quick in Fife as the best burger in the Puget Sound region. EVERYTHING is fresh, locally sourced, and really, really good....close to In-N-Out Burger quality in every bite. Shakes are made to order with real fruit (strawberries, blueberries, etc.). And the fries are cut right there, cooked fresh, made to order, and right out of the 1950's......cut long, thin, just the right amount of oil and salty. And why is this? Because this place was built in 1948 and has barely changed since then....including the shade trees and park benches to sit in the summer breeze. On Pacific Avenue in Fife, just a few blocks from the "also old and 1950's famous" Poodle Dog Restaurant and Pup Room" with classic signage just off of I-5. You step back in time by visiting both of these places. And while you're at it, you may as well trek to Tacoma a few minutes away and walk into the Java Jive (shaped like a coffee pot) for a drink. Another great place bits the dust. We went there today and as we expected - there was a long line - no problem - beautiful day. As we stood in line (for 20 minutes) - I noticed some individuals just walking up - paying for their order - receiving it and leaving. One was a hundred dollar order that slowed the whole line down. I am all for the restaurant having large orders - but please wait in line. After not receiving my food for almost 45 minutes - number 74 (the rest of our party who was ahead of us) was called. I went behind them to get mine - (number 75) but this gentlemen cut me off went to the window - paid and got his order. Now in my generation we call that cutting. Apparently they started call in orders and those get priority - so if you are dumb enough to wait in line - get there early - I figured at least 5 people cut in front of us. Not nice. read more

This place was amazing. It's a spot my boyfriend used to always go to when he lived in Seattle. It as the go to spot on the way to Seattle or Portland. We got two double cheeseburgers and chili cheese fries. I went in with pretty high expectations because of the Rabin reviews my boyfriend gave, but I wanted to see for myself! He was right, the burger was glorious, and the chili cheese fries were deliciously gooey with the yummy chili, cheese, fries and onions. I would most definitely go back again and again. This was a good, solid, simple hamburger. Unless you have a pretty light appetite -- one failing I sadly do not suffer from -- I suggest getting a triple. It reminded me of the hamburgers I would get from In-and-Out from my days in California. That is a real compliment to Pick-Quick. They had a bunch of milkshake flavors that look really good but sadly I could not try one. The vegetables tasted really fresh. I added jalapenos to mine, which tasted pretty good. It was the pickled kind. I did not add bacon because I wanted to taste beef. Bacon on a hamburger is always amazing, but I wanted to see how their hamburger patties held up on their own since bacon can overcome a lot of flaws or shortcomings. But I found Pick-Quick's hamburger patties really good. What I found was not great was their french fries. I found them kind of flaccid and not at all crispy. They were seasoned, but just lacked crispiness. Kind of like Dick's up in King County. That sadly -- in my humble opinion -- is not exactly a compliment. I tried Pick-Quick today. The burger was really just okay, but then again, it wasn't supposed to be a gourmet burger. For what it was, a fast basic burger, it was tasty...the bun was grilled which some local burger places don't do. I'm also really picky when it comes to the flavor of ground beef, and there were no funny metallic or gamy nuances to it. I had a double burger, and felt it would have been nice to have more meat....they're really pretty thin. The basic toppings that come automatically are: a rubber spatula each of mustard, mayo, sweet relish slathered on in that order, followed by a tomato disc and a raw onion disk (not just one ring, but a full cross section - so kinda a lot) No lettuce. No cheeseburgers in my party, so I can't say what the cheese offerings were, but I'm guessing American. I skipped the fries so can't opine on those (trying to limit calories here :-) but I did try a cherry malt. It was mediocre. It tasted like powdered milk was part of the blend, so not that great. One plus was that it was really thick, not to be drawn on by a straw. Overall, I'd go again if with kids who want a grease feast, because it was cheap and kinda fun/cool to go to. They have a huge grassy area under some old trees full of picnic tables with a great view of the I-5 traffic whizzing by (yeah, that was sarcasm). If you are thinking of heading to Burger King, McDonald's or one of those other chains, I beg you to go here instead....MUCH better tasting when compared to them, a better experience, and most likely healthier ingredients. read more
