House benedict - it is so yummy, you cannot stop eating. the biscuit is beautifully toasted and soaked in butter, perfectly cooked eggs, and the rich sauce. A 100/10, not kidding! We were immensely impressed with the atmosphere, decor, and service. The dishes were absolutely spectacular in presentation, flavor, and value. Each aspect of the four plates was immaculate. We got the chance to taste the fresno honey whipped goat cheese with almond flour tortilla chips. The slight spice balancing with the sweet honey truly seemed to be a match made in the most plentiful garden anyone could ever witness. My parents got the grass-fed burger and the original fish tacos, while I got the farmhouse breakfast with brioche french toast. The french toast was cooked perfectly; a thick slice with honey butter and the best syrup from any restaurant I have ever had was served. The smashed potatoes in the breakfast were a special treat indeed. Imagine singular potatoes having the mashed potatoes inside. They were crispy and paired wonderful with the sauce. As for the tacos, they are certainly some of the best in the entire world. The burger was worth it on so many levels. It has the classic meat, cheese, sauce, and pickles, but don't be fooled. It on its own deserves five stars. We were amazed without a doubt and would gladly return to Picnik. read more

With a name like Picnik, you'd expect great brunch, well yes that is correct! They have it. A modern themed american style restaurant, I came to Picnik after a friend requested to join them for brunch. Atmosphere: A modern style restaurant with a bit of simple minimalist vibes, perfect for a breakfast/brunch outing. However, on my visit my friend and I were put in the back area, which is objectively not as appealing and littered with flies due to the food. It did unfortunately detract from the experience as I feel as though the indoor setting is a bit more appealing. Food: I ended up getting both the Golden Milk Matcha and the fried chicken. My friend got the eggs Benedict. The Golden milk is pretty tasty, basically a honey ginger taste within coffee so gives a good spice, a bit on the expensive side though for the quantity. The fried chicken though was good, I enjoyed a classic chicken and pancakes dish, though nothing too outstanding. My friend's eggs Benedict though wasn't as she imagined, the eggs were a bit more jelly textured versus the classic runny style. Perhaps the eggs were a little overcooked? Overall nothing to complain about the food but nothing that makes me crave more. Service: Service was solid, though we were put outside the service still attended when needed. The change in venue did affect my experience at Picnik, and unfortunately the food and/or service didn't take enough charge to make up for the less than appealing backdoor area. Maybe worth another try in the future, but for now I'd look at other venues. read more

Heard this place was totally gluten free so obviously had to check it out. We were able to get reservations for a Saturday morning easily at fairly short notice (it was busy when we got there). They have a large selection of foods and healthy drinks (kombuchas, juice, etc.) Of course had to try the benedict since it's always hard to find a gluten free version; imho it's a bit expensive for what you get. I don't particularly like arugula and it was somewhat under-seasoned. Could have had a bit more salt and citrus, as well as the hollandaise sauce. The bun was OK; others got a different kind of bread and I think it was a better texture and flavor than the bun, but overall it was decent and they have other stuff that would be nice to try so I'm sure I'll be back. read more

I had been wanting to dine at picnik for awhile and it finally happened. I wasn't exactly thrilled about the prices but I really loved the fact that the menu is gluten free and they are accommodating to food allergies. I have intolerances to both dairy and gluten. The service was spotty so we decided to order an appetizer, drinks, and entrees when our waiter finally came over. We order a margarita and an old fashion. Both were way to sweet. We had chips and guacamole which were very good. I highly recommend it despite the price. Our meals came out super fast which always makes me worried about the quality. For entrees I ordered the steak tacos and my husband went with the chicken fried chicken. Tacos portions were smaller but honestly it was to my liking. However, they lacked flavor and added a lot of hot sauce to it after I requested some to boost the flavor. My husband said his chicken meal was okay but thought the breading had an odd flavor. Picnik always seems so laid back. The seating is comfortable and varied. While our service today was a bit slow, I assume it was because it was busy. The food was excellent as per our previous experiences. It was great being able to bring our gluten intolerant guest here for brunch. She ate eggs Benedict (Picnik Benedict) for the first time in her life and absolutely loved it. My daughter tried my favorite, the biscuits with sausage gravy along with crispy potatoes and devoured 1/2 the plate. I tried the chicken tenders made with rice flour and arugula salad. While they weren't quite as crispy as I hoped but they were crunch with good flavor and well cooked chicken. Happy with our visit and will be back. read more

A friend and I went here for dinner and absolutely loved it! We shared a Loaded Smashed Potatoes plate to start and I don't think any other potato place will ever come close to how divine the textures and flavors of what this plate tasted like. We also both got The Cobb which we loved and she got a glass is the Pitaya Margarita - they can "pack" this in a can to-go if you like. Or waitress was very nice and checked on us often. We enjoyed our meal here. It's a bit over the top with its offerings in terms of healthy and good for you mumbo jumbo, but the three stars reflect the limited menu and the high prices. The interior is cute, and they have a back patio with my favorite outdoor item, a spinning fan that keeps flies at bay (why do most restaurants not offer this?). Service was good. We used to live in Portland, OR, and this place is so Portlandish. I was ready for the server to tell me the name of the hen who birthed our eggs. We ate two breakfast sandwiches and they were good. Quality ingredients and well prepared. My husband ate the hot chicken sandwich, and he liked it but recommends swapping the french toast bun for something more practical. I ate the bison breakfast sandwich. It was rich and filling. I also enjoyed a butter cappuccino. Our total bill, plus tip, felt high at $53. Two breakfast sandwiches and a fancy coffee? I suppose we paid for the regenerative bison and chicken. Bottom line: I enjoyed my meal, but felt the health consciousness of the menu was a bit over the top (and I've lived in Portland!). My experience was really good! It's getting 4 starts because I had to send back my matcha because it was too watery even with oat milk...and I didn't like my gluten-free pancake. But! For someone who is gluten-free the pancake could be could. What is really good gluten-free is their toast and biscuits! I actually forgot it was gluten free. The potatoes served with the breakfast plate were cooked to perfection and super tasty. I substituted my bacon for avocado. The over medium egg was cooked perfectly! I have been ordering to go from picnik for a few years now, I live an hour and a half away so when I'm in Austin I pick it up to bring home for dinner. Placed an order yesterday 9/27 for 2 cashew queso and a side of smashed potatoes, the guy on the phone was rude and had horrible customer service. I always order to go and get the happy hour prices, but he said I can't do that and was rude about it. $32 for these three things that aren't even full... What is the difference in ordering togo vs eating there for happy hour? You are still giving the restaurant service and with the far drive home why would I want to eat there. I have never seen my food so empty before, the queso was filled up half way when it's usually filled to the top, and I had 5 small smashed potatoes, usually the potatoes are filled to the top. Definitely have a feeling the worker on the phone sabotaged my order because it was half ass full for everything and I've never received it. Unacceptable and going to lose customers with that. It's sad because picnik is such a good option for gluten free people. read more

My wife had been here once, loved it, and brought me. Boy was I ever glad she did! The food was amazing! I tried the honey bbq chicken sandwich and it was a highly satisfying and delicious offering. The breading on the chicken wasn't too much and the chicken was flavored and cooked just right. Add the bacon and egg on it, and other features and you had one fantastic entree. You must try the fried potatoes with it! They're fried in avocado oil which gives them a slightly lighter feel. And they were scrumptious! Very nice service and it helped making reservations online. Service and food was great! However, I dined in on Monday 3/10 for brunch and there was an awful smell of sewage. I noticed people working on some piping issue out front, so I thought I would give them the benefit of the doubt. I came in again today, and their bathrooms are not in service. They are also keeping the door open, so it seems they're trying to hide some sort of problem with the plumbing. I don't understand why a restaurant would stay open if they're having this sort of plumbing issues. I would like to eat my food somewhere clean and safe. Really hope they get this fixed! read more

However I had to reduce the rating due to the disturbing conversation that I heard from the GM, chef and other manager acting person speaking negatively about staff members and joking about having to avoid saying certain things cause of the 'diverse' area they are in. It sucks hearing this kind of talk from people who appeared to be owners or management as this makes people who hear believe that you don't care about these values such as 'diversity' that 'people over here' care about, or that you would speak negatively about your staff in front of customers. I normally order my food delivered and coming in person hearing that made me want to leave quickly and reconsider ordering again. But again, the staff clearly are amazing and the food was good-it's just disappointing when you don't have management on board. read more

This is one of my friends favorite restaurants in Austin and I am so glad I finally got to check it out after hearing him rave about it for so long. It definitely lived up to the hype! There was a small wait when we first got during Sunday brunch. You have the option to order drinks at the counter while you wait so we did just that! I ordered the Pitaya Margarita and it was truly one of the most delicious drinks I have ever had. And its also soooooo pretty! I love a drink with ~aesthetic~ There is not that many places that can do the healthy thing without sacrificing flavor and I think Picnik does it perfectly. To start we ordered the guacamole with siete chips. I was skeptical about ordering this dish here but it was so freaking good! The guacamole tasted so fresh and I loved that they had siete chips as an option since they're some of my favorites. We also had some of their brussels sprouts which are drizzled with honey and have bacon. Amazing blend of flavors! Additionally, we ordered the salmon toast and it was super good! Gluten free toast with a spread of cream cheese, a slice of slamon, and topped with a poached egg and capers. A super yummy and light meal. For my entre I ordered the chorizo frittata. I normally don't love chorizo because of how greasy it is so I was pleasantly surprised at how good and non-greasy this chorizo was. This plate also came with a side of arugula salad that was fresh and delicious. To finish our feast we had to have a blondie brownie. What an amazing pastry! Sweet enough without it being overpowering. Idk how they do it! We ended up even getting a few of them to go. Visiting from CA, I checked out Timeout.Com, I shortlisted 4 out of 12 restaurant, Picnik was voted #1 for best breakfast restaurants in Austin, with a delicious-looking oozing egg Benedict on a toasted bun, see pic. Was looking forward to my last breakfast in Austin before going back home. The waitress greeted us by announcing they do not have any espresso-based coffee on the menu, only butter coffees, which was a bit odd for breakfast, so I asked for black tea. Expecting hot black tea, I got dilute ice tea instead. The hot chocolate we ordered came very watery and tepid, neither hot nor chocolaty. It turned out that the egg Benedict is only served on the weekends, which was rather disappointing as I selected Picnik based on the nice pic Picnik handed in to Timeout.com to publish... The Bison burger sandwich was the breakfast of choice, good looking and good tasting burger with a perfect fried egg on top. The smashed potatoes had great sauces on them although very salty! I've eaten here several times. I am celiac and rarely eat out, so I was excited to find a dedicated gf restuarant. First off, super high prices, which I tried to justify with the "no allergens clean ingredients". But, they keep adding all these extra charges, service fees, I realized it was more expensive to order online then their menu prices, etc. The people who work here are hardworking and I feel bad they probably have to deal with the owners outrageous pricing. The reason I can't justify the pricing is the portions are small for the price and despite the "clean ingredients" everything is so deeply covered in oil that I still got so sick after eating here. read more

I enjoyed my experience at Picnik! Food: Everything on the menu is GF and peanut free. Additionally, they try to have all the food locally sourced. I wanted something small, so I chose the scramble. It was lite and flavorful. I could tell that everything was high quality! Location: The location is very cute and airy, with a lite white interior and plants throughout. I sat on the back patio. I was so impressed by the high ceiling and felt relaxed with the sound of the fountain in the background. Service: The host and the waitress were very friendly. The restaurant didn't seem that busy. What my friend and I ordered was pretty simple, but it took a long time for our food to come to us Overall, I would say my experience was positive. This is a small little place with counter tables and open space: (the set up feels very juice-bar esque) which fits the concept of its healthy food menu. Speaking of juice bars, I noticed they have some unique rich-coffee drinks that remind me of this whole Bulletproof fad (they have butter or MCT oil in their coffee) which just makes the heavy in general. I am not complaining though I don't prefer my coffee to be a meal in itself when I am about to have a meal. That being said, the entrée items here have of variety and aren't all heavy. I got the Harvest bowl which was delicious and surprisingly light (I mean...it has chorizo in it and I never thought "chorizo" and "light" will ever go together in the same sentence". It worked because the chorizo was ground so that it didn't take away from the other savory flavors like the roasted Brussel sprouts and runny egg (which, combined with the sweet squash was just perfection). So my little celiac heart was very happy as I could get anything on the menu but a few drinks! My husband and I went for brunch so we shared a queso dip & chips for an appetizer. I ordered french toast and potatoes for my meal and he got a couple breakfast tacos. All the food was SO DELICIOUS and we left feeling full and satisfied. Picknik is an eclectic place. The venue is a little hard to find. Front lot parking is slim, but there is another lot and some street parking in the back. The decor is modernist spare, and they do have a decent outside place with plenty of fan-power to keep it comfortable. Service is very credible. Our waitstaff was informative and attentive and pleasant. The food came out reasonably quickly considering they were very busy at lunchtime. Their food philosophy leans heavily towards healthy. There are plenty of vegetarian choices and some interesting choices about protein choices for some dishes. They have a separate 'special diets menu', which is a smart and sensitive choice. I had the summer hash from the regular menu, and the portion was fairly generous. It advertised grass fed sausage, but the proportion of that was on the skimpy side. On the other hand, the sweet potatoes were numerous, sweet and cooked correctly. The other vegetables - red bells, corn, asparagus and more - were in ample quantities, and the fried eggs cooked to my spec and, when spread over the dish, gave it a richer, deeper flavor.
