Initial consultation - Dan and Xochitl came to our house, where we had in-person kickoff session. We walked around the property together, where they both carefully listened to how our ideas around how to the use the space, and indulged our numerous 'newbie' questions. They are tremendously insightful, very experienced, and remarkably patient with folks like us who are new to the process. Design phase - Xochitl took all our ideas and took a couple of weeks to think deeply about what our outside space could be transformed into. And, boy did she deliver! She and Dan unveiled their vision to us at our next in-person meeting, where Xochitl had drawn out a stunning illustration of what the final design would look like. We loved it so much, it's now framed an hung on our wall. You can talk about designs all you want, but it's only when you see it in front of you that the vision truly comes to life. Execution - The team indicated when they would be available to start our project (after finishing the ones they had already committed to), and they were true to their word. And when everything got started, it was a whirlwind until completion. I don't think there was even a single day where someone from the team wasn't on-site, pushing things forward. One things start, they are fully dedicated to your project, and you can see your outdoor space transforming everyday. Finances - One thing I appreciated immensely was Dan's transparency around the finances involved. He provided a detailed, itemized quote at the on-set, and set out clear processes around payment cadence. That left no room for surprises. Of course, as with any project, we made adjustments and changed our minds on a few things along the way. Dan immediately made the necessary changes, and gave us a clear update on how that might affect costs and timing. Communication - Dan was incredible when it came to keeping us informed on progress and answering questions. He would lay out the plan for the next couple of weeks, make us aware of any decisions he needed from us, and provide timely updates as we moved into the next phases of the project. This was definitely a huge help, and very much appreciated. Final result - This was our first major landscaping endeavor, so there was a lot of blind faith put in the team, and I'm so glad we did. They completely transformed our outdoor space, both front and back. We hired Sagebrush to design and install native landscaping in our front and back yards -- about…read more3000sf. From start to finish, they have been nothing short of exceptional. I started by completing the contact form on their website. The email reply was prompt, and I found it easy for us to communicate over email. With all of my initial questions answered, we set up an initial consultation. Joana and Christina (two sisters from the peninsula) arrived and took thorough notes and photos while we discussed what I'd like for the garden: replace our mostly dirt and (dead) lawn yards with native plants, some new trees, a veggie bed, and a rain garden bioswale. I was planning to supply water from a greywater system using our shower, sink, and laundry water, and I wanted to use that to create a lush, native riparian woodland feel (think Sugarloaf park) unlike the dry native coastal scrub look that can be neat but just doesn't inspire me. They were easy to talk to, asked good questions about my preferences, and seemed to really get what I was looking for. We decided to enter a contract for design, and a few weeks later, they reached out to discuss their initial concept designs. They came with not one, but two concept plans, plus detailed plant lists and sample images. I always like maps and plans and diagrams, but these were beautiful. Hand drawn and colored, sometimes I still pull them out just to look at. I'm tempted to hang them on my wall! And more importantly, the plans showed that they had listened to me, and understood what I wanted. The designs reflected my requirements and preferences, and expanded on those with creative, delightful new ideas that never would have occurred to me. Now, this is why I wanted a professional designer! (This was also notably not the case with two other designers I tried before Sagebrush.) We picked what we wanted from the two concept designs, and they returned not long after with the final design. After the design, they bill as they go for time and materials, so before we got started, we asked for an overall estimate to get a sense of how things would fit with our budget. They replied with a clearly itemized list of approximate costs for the entire project. The total was very reasonable, and I appreciated the detail because it helped me understand where some costs might end up being higher or lower. In the end, the estimate was pretty good! It ended up a little higher, but we also changed a few things along the way. When it came time to do the work, it was Joana and Christina themselves, plus their assistant Ashley, doing everything. They communicated clearly about what they would be doing and when, shared plant lists and costs as they went, arrived when they said they would, and worked efficiently, carefully, and hard. It's been a true pleasure throughout the whole process.

Gerardo and Vista Landscaping are Exceptional…read more Over the end of last year, I've worked with Gerardo and Team at Vista to plan and then execute a massive backyard remodel. The scope was extensive: a large, engineered two-tier retraining wall, large French drain all around my backward, new patio, backyard fence, fire pit with guilt in gas line, front year leveling, front yard fence (curved), new sprinkle system, all new planting including several trees and integrated lighting. The work was intense, requiring months of jack hammering and meticulous concrete work. During the time, Gerardo was a true professional. He sought feedback and guidance when useful, but also of course took care of everything as issues came up including handling countless very detailed and tedious permit reviews. He is transparent with pricing, communicates very effectively, and holds himself and his team to a high-quality standard. The result? Our yard is incredible.
