Had an unfortunately bad experience at this restaurant. Owner of the restaurant, ED McKee should manage the restaurant and stay away from customer service. When another customer ignored the pick up lines, ED proceeded to help them (likely knew them) and when I let that customer know that we are standing in-line waiting to pick our food as well, Ed interjected and basically said he can do whatever he wants because he is the owner. I cancelled my order and left never to come back. Beware this owner as he is, in my humble opinion, a cranky old man that runs his business like it's 1960. Plenty of other restaurants around here that serve better food and don't insult and berate customers and that's where I'm taking my money and my business. read more

This is definitely a casual spot that is good for kids, inexpensive, and fairly quick. However, our service, the opera music, the warm pizza oven in the center of the room, and the lighting of this restaurant truly made it a great date experience. I don't often name waiters by name but Jason was excellent. It felt like he kept an eye on us and was making sure each aspect of our meal was perfectly timed. We ordered two appetizers and glasses of wine, two pizzas, dessert to share and coffee all for $70 after tip. Our waiter was able to explain a wine I hadn't heard of to me and when it arrived at the table, it was exactly what he described and delicious. We like to share a starter salad. When we ordered, Jason proactively asked if we'd be sharing and had the kitchen split the order into two. It was a great serving size and I was impressed with the Cesar dressing. We also ordered a half order of garlic bread. This was four large fresh fluffy slices of fresh garlic bread that was definitely not frozen. I could have been thrilled with just this for dinner, it was that good. About 3 minutes after we had our last bites of appetizer, our pizzas arrived. When I'm looking for quick Italian food, this is the spot that I frequent. The meat lasagna and sweet tomato penne are pretty good. The meat lasagna is sweet, but not overly sweet. The sweet tomato cream penne is good for someone who is looking for a pasta dish with a creamy sauce. The restaurant doesn't have an Alfredo chicken dish, so this is what I normally order. The antipasto salad is also a good choice with chopped up Italian meats, olives and banana peppers (yum!). The service is pretty decent. I have never had any major issues there. The restaurant has a rewards system that I would recommend if you frequent this spot. You have to download their App, which is called Cardagin. After accruing points, you can get rewards such as $5 off. When you pay for your meal, mention that you have the app. You will have to write your phone number down on your receipt so they can record your points. For this season, they have a gift certificate promotion. If you buy a $50 gift certificate then you get an extra $10 off your next meal. This is a very family friendly restaurant located in the strip mall by the Harris Teeter. My husband and I were sat right away and chose to sit at the bar. That way we could watch the pizzas being made. Our waitress was extremely attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. She was very polite. Apps: Mozzarella sticks. The description of them seemed like they would be homemade. I wouldn't say that though. They were good, but defiantly not homemade. Just your standard mozz sticks. The marina was good. Wouldn't order again though. Meatballs and spaghetti: the noodles were cooked nicely. The marina was good, it was the same marinara with the mozzarella sticks. Nothing super special. I wasn't impressed by the meatballs. They didn't taste like homemade meatballs. When you eat a good homemade meatball you just know. I'm half Italian so my grandma would make them all the time. The fresh Parmesan shaved on top was excellent. I would order this again, maybe. Linguine bolognese: my husband and I thought it was ok. Stopped by for dinner on the way home from a very long day at work. Wasn't planning to do much other than grab a quick bite. Started with what looked interesting - Gorgozola Stuffed Fried Green Olives. Well, these were already 5 of my favorite words in the English language - together there's a synergy that can't be described. I'll try to boil it down to something simple: YUMMY!! So your probably wondering why just 4 stars. First - I save my 5 Star Ratings for someplace that you really don't want to miss. If you follow my reviews and see 5 stars then you should carry your ass down there and eat right away. Trust and believe - it's something worthwhile. Back to pie-tanza. For my entree I had the meatball sub with a Caesar Salad. The meatballs were tasty but over mixed and left without a real meaty texture. This is really a personal preference - I believe based on taste they're homemade, but they have that texture / consistency of something store bought. It was nice to have plenty of cheese melted over the top. The Caesar was a side, but the lettuce wasn't very crispy - like it had been mixed and left in the bowl for a while. The dressing - NICE - good flavor, lots of anchovy, classic, not one of those fake Caesar dressings like you get from the salad bar at the office cafeteria. Service is consistently good. I was late already and had an online course I had to finish for work that night. The server I had was understanding, checked in to make sure everything was ok, but clearly knew I was focused in the iPad and he didn't bother me. I had a gluten free pizza and my dining partner had the special wood fired sausage, onion, and pepper pizza (not gluten free, regular). The crust on both were way too thin and crispy - even on the regular one the dough was not pillowy in the slightest, and the sauce on mine had a few spices but wasn't overly flavorful. I don't think I'll be back unless as a last resort. We absolutely love their pizzas and meatballs. If you haven't tried their meatballs yet, do yourself a favor and order one meatball next time. It's home-made and very, very good. Our last visit to Pie-Tanza, we ordered their Primo Pepperoni. This has to be my favorite pizza here because of the size of their Pepporoni's. It is the perfect amount of food for two people with a salad to split at the beginning of your meal. We have also had their Sausage, Onion and Peppers pizza, which was also very delicious. We are local to pie-tanza and have been ordering pizzas from them since they first opened, I don't know how many years ago. However, they seem to be under different management. Since a few months before the pandemic started, they have gotten our take-out order wrong more times than not. Their pizzas are delicious so we order again. And again, they get it so wrong, we've thought they gave us the wrong order. But that's not the case. Their kitchen staff simply gets it all-the-way wrong. Not even close to what we ordered! Tonight, they did it again. This is The LAST Time we give them our business. This is the DC Area! There are plenty of pizza places in this area who make delicious specialty pizzas and know how to accurately prepare an on-menu selection. I had their roasted veggie pizza and my colleague had a pizza with mushroom and spinach. The ingredients were very fresh and the pizza overall was pretty tasty. However, my pizza was very soggy on the bottom and I would've preferred a more substantial crust. My colleague said the same. Filled with local families, friends, and couples every time I walk inside. For what it is, what's not to like?! Penne w/ tomato cream: a nice dish, not super heavy cream sauce. White meat chicken is plentiful if a bit dry. Bolognese w/ linguine: Satisfying. Not super rich, deep stove-top flavors. More like a thick meat sauce with some tomatoes cooked in it. I saw several people eating this. They do a chunkier Bolognese, so I'd technically prefer a penne or shell shaped pasta with this Bolognese. Linguine was a bit overcooked, but I had this for takeout. Honestly, I walked away happy. Pizza looked good too for the thin-crust crowd. As someone who is deathly lactose intolerant but loves cheese, I try to limit my cheese in take unless I really want cheese. I actually have never had pie-tanza's pizza because it hasn't sparked my interest pizza wise, BUT the rest of the menu is extremely strong for a pizza place. From the angel hair pasta dish to the mussels in white wine sauce this place has amazing food outside of your conventional pizza. The side salad comes with a light oil based dressing and pairs well with all the pasta dishes. If you're not a pizza person, but the people you're with want pizza, come here and try the rest of the menu. You won't be disappointed. Parking here SUCKS! Pie-tanza is far and away the best Italian restaurant in NoVA, and it's not even close. Firstly; the food. They have a great menu with a lot of different things, from sandwiches to pastas to a great dessert menu and great drink and alcohol options, etc. Any of the classics you want, you can get them here. The pizzas are wood oven, which really sets it apart from most VA pizza places. If you were raised on Italian food like I was, this is the go to place. The pizzas are great, not an afterthought menu item like they are in so many restaurants. This is pizza done right. Secondly, the ambience is great. It's that rare perfect ground where it's a great place to take families - which is a must for Italian food - while still also being a quiet atmospheric place you could take a girl for a nice date. The confirmation said we'd get an email telling us when the order would be ready. The email came at 6:18, stating the order would be ready at 6:45. OK -- they are busy. We get there at 6:45. This was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. the restaurant may as well double as a day care. It was packed with kids who appeared to have the run of the place. I ordered the lasagna and it was just terrible. When it arrived I started digging through the pan looking for a noodle and found just one. ONE NOODLE in the entire lasagna. I showed the waiter and he said that "sometimes they dissolve when it cooks." Anyone here ever heard of dissolving noodles? I flagged down a manager and she was equally unsympathetic. I requested a plate of noodles, any kind of noodles, so I could add them to the pile of cheese that they tried to pass off as lasagna. Eventually I got some noodles, but it was too late. She later brought out an uncooked lasagna to show me that they do have noodles in there, and ironically she could only point to TWO noodles in her The manager said she would remove the lasagna from our bill, and then she took our credit card. I can still remember my first time dining at Pie-Tanza. I shared a pizza with my daughter, and guess what? I forgot my wallet at home! The waiter handled it so incredibly amazingly, that I've been coming back now for years. I can easily say this is my favorite restaurant in all of the DMV. Everyone goes out of their way to make my daughter feel amazing. Food is always spot on, and I've never had a bad moment ever. The pizza's I would say is what they do best, but they have an amazing Steak Salad, the Linguini with Muscles is to die for, and I think I've had their Garlic Bread every single time I've been in.
