Family friendly Italian restaurant with fast and friendly service and decent prices for the area. Pizza was thin crusted and saucy, with a sweet tomato sauce that was really good. Very cheesy (ordered the four cheese pizza so go figure) and very good. The pasta was also delicious and had a sweet sauce. The shaved chicken was nice beaches you could get some of the pasta and spinach in the same bite as the meat and sauce so it all came together perfectly. I'm usually not one to write reviews but I had an experience here tonight that has been on my mind. I've been a patron at Pie-tanza for 15 years, and I've never had service that has made me unhappy like this. I had placed a phone order for three desserts about 40 minutes before they closed, which I know can be annoying, but it wasn't anything big. When I went in to pick up my order from the back service counter, I was coldly "greeted" by a young girl, I believe her name is Charlotte. Instead of a "hello" or "can I help you?" she simply looked at me and said "yea" in an indifferent voice as if I was interrupting her conversation with her coworkers. I said politely that I had a pickup order and she responded with a "yep" before her coworker stepped in and took over while she walked away. Again, I know it was close to closing and I'm usually not a Karen about this type of thing, but as someone who has worked in the service industry for many years, I found her behavior incredibly rude. When I finally get home, come to find that my chocolate chip cookie a la mode is ACTUALLY just a ball of raw cookie dough, with "15 mins/350" haphazardly written on the lid. Just a ball of raw cookie dough after that service? I might as well have just gone to the grocery store. INCREDIBLY disappointing. Do better. read more

Pie-Tanza is one of the best restaurants my husband and I have found in Arlington where we can take our three kids and still have a great, enjoyable meal. (And we've tried a LOT of restaurants.) Consistently good food, almost always fast service, and extremely kid-friendly. Awesome starters and fresh salads, with tons of good choices--especially the goat cheese salad and the caprese--and huge portions, super tasty pasta dishes (particularly the Sweet Tomato Cream Penne), yummy Italian style pizzas, and awesome desserts. Extensive kids menu as well, with a nice variety of main and side dish options (including all the kid staples plus healthy choices like salmon, fresh fruit, veggies, and even gluten free options if you're into that). It's not a big place and it's extremely popular, so if you go at 6 or 6:30 you might have to wait a few minutes for a table. But they're quite efficient at turning tables over, so it's usually only a short wait if any. If you're looking for a place to dine with kids, or if you don't mind dining with kids nearby, this is an excellent option. If you hate kids and/or dining near them, this place will be hell (as will any place in that whole shopping center actually). For us, it's perfect. We go there about once a week. read more

I feel like I've been on a roll with finding solid spots in this neighborhood. I dropped in as a recommendation from one of our neighbors. I'm glad I did! They have a lunch special, where you get a giant glass of iced tea (or soda) with a 10" specialty pizza. I went with the Quattro Carne. It's Neapolitan style, super thin pizza with tons of toppings. I also added the tomato soup. And if I'm being honest, when it first came out, I thought... they served me gravy... but then as you dig into the soup, it has the consistency of a hearty tomato soup, chunks of soft bread, and all the best flavors. So yes, I approve. They also seem to have delicious desserts, inclusive of cannoli, tiramisu, affogato and my fave: chocolate chip cookie... I'll have to come back to try them all. It is quite noisy, but worth it for the food. I've come during the week and on weekends and they're always busy. Parking can be a hassle since the shopping center as a whole can get quite busy. Food: Delicious! My favorite is the walnut grape salad and the rose penne pasta. I try to get something different every time I go but these two are my favorite. When we walked in there were just a couple table of people. It took a minute before the hostess realized we were waiting (she appeared to maybe be eating at the bar) and she got us seated. The adults have tried pizza, pasta, and salads. All are of good quality. They LOVE to load toppings so when I feel like I want sausage and peppers I order that. They are generous with the oregano here and the pizza sauce does taste like it has sugar. I like the pizza here but don't love it- however that's really a style preference issue. I really like the salads here, specifically the fried goat cheese salad. Service: great! Friendly, as efficient as the kitchen allows and always packed. Parking lot is a nightmare. There is a garage around back. I've never been in it. Worst Customer Experience Ever! Last night at Pie-Tanza I had the worst experience ever in my life at any restaurant. When I entered the restaurant I saw my pizzas were ready and asked if I could pick them up. There was a crowd at the takeout counter in the back and I asked the man at the pizza oven if he would help me secure my order which was already stacked on the table waiting for pickup. He told me I had to get in line. The take out counter line was crowded, not moving, and nothing being ordered. I went back to the pizza table hoping that staff person would come back out. That is when Ed rudely told me I couldn't take my pizza and to get in line. A staff person offered to get my ticket so I could take my pizza but she never came back. When the line at the takeout counter wasn't moving Ed came back to see what was going on and asked if anyone was here picking up an order. He saw me and knew that I was picking an order and ignored me for another person in line. This person said he could wait on me but Ed said it doesn't work that way and that he will decide who gets to pick up orders and in what order. When it was finally my turn I asked him why he hadn't waited on me and he said, "do you want your pizza or not, I don't have time for this," and still wouldn't get my pizza. He again asked for my name knowing who I was since I had already told him my name and he had already seen my pizzas in the queue. He doesn't have time to get my pizza and apologize for the wait? Especially for a patron who's been with the restaurant since it opened? I have never seen him before. He is rude and belligerent. I can't imagine what he is like with his staff. The tone he used with me and the attitude of his demeanor was rude and unprofessional. He owes me an apology for this behavior. read more
