    Meatballs & Spaghetti

I stopped into Pie-tanza for dinner. The restaurant was pretty empty. I had a hard time deciding what to order so I just opted for one of the wood fire pizzas and ordered the spaghetti and meatballs to go. The pizza did not take long to come out at all. The pizza was good. I would have preferred a little more sweeter sauce where this sauce is more tangy. The pepperoni is more of the deli style then the pepperoni cups. The spaghetti and meatballs did not have a ton of sauce. The meatballs were a decent size and where flavorful. If I was in the area again, I would check it out.

Always, always delicious food. Always remarkably generous portions. Always friendly servers and staff. Always shocked by how reasonable the prices are. They deserve six stars, not just five!

Pretty average as far as pizza goes. The sausage seemed a bit bland to me, pie ingredients chaos garnished (meat all on one side). Crust slightly too thin and crispy for my liking. It tasted okay, but nothing to scream home about. Portion is perfect for one person, provided that is your only order. The cheese appetizers are good, I mean how can you go wrong with deep fried cheese? The goat cheese balls do come on an insane bed of lettuce though, so it could in and of itself be an entree. The side (app) salads are huge and would probably work as a whole meal. Delicious, but I can't imagine how big the full size one is! Nice ambiance. Fair amount of kids and crowded on a weeknight. Big shout to our server Chloe who is the model for wonderful and friendly service. If I ever come back, I'd ask for her section.

Good family-friendly restaurant with wood-fired NY style pizza, but NOT Neapolitan. The ginormous charred pizza pies have a nice crunchy crust. The creamy White Sauce pizza with onion and thyme was more flavorful than the Cheese pizza. The pizza shake with oregano and fontina cheese overpowered the Cheese pizza. The cheese congealed pretty quickly and the pizza became tepid after 5 minutes. It was a bit disappointing to be served a can of Lambrusco instead of from a fresh bottle in a glass. There was a large assortment of flavored sangria and non-alcoholic bubbly sodas. The service was great and very accommodating towards my rambunctious family with a toddler and a baby throwing food from a high chair (we left a generous tip!). If you enjoy NY style pizza, you'll enjoy Pie-tanza. It was nice to support the small family business, but I prefer Neapolitan pizza at Modo Mia right across the street from the shopping plaza.

A true Arlington staple. I've been getting the margherita for over ten years-- it is one of my comfort foods. The sauce and crust are amazing.

A friend recommended this place to me and I'm glad she did. First off...the food. I'm a fan of thin crust pizza and the pizza I ordered had a nice charred crispy to it and the rich tomato sauce was pleasant. I'm also a sucker for apples and cinnamon, so I decided to try their warm apple caramel pie, which was served a la mode with vanilla bean ice cream. Was a little disappointed by this dessert because I thought it was rather bland. Nevertheless, it wasn't the terrible, so I ate most of it. Secondly, the service was attentive and not overbearing. My server was friendly and greeted me right away when she noticed me standing by the host stand without a host/hostess in sight. Last but not least, the ambiance was cozy, casual, and comfortable. I like the fact that they had chalk boards with menu items. Nice touch to add to the welcoming atmosphere. Pizza: 9/10 Warm caramel apple pie: 6/10

Love the pizza here I've been going here for 9+ years now. But today was the first time I got a PIZZA MAKING KIT!! cutest date night I had with my fiancée got the 3 pizza pie kit (comes with 4 doughs) and got pepperoni and sausage toppings! Completely recommend so fun! I put the pizzas in the oven at 425 degrees F, for about 10min. Also we super appreciate the 4th dough, that's how we found out the exact time we needed to take out the pizza perfect amount of cheese, toppings and sauce!!

The Bucatini is an even better show as they roll over the cheese wheel and light the cheese on fire...then take perfectly cooked Bucatini pasta and coat it with cheesy sauce in the wheel. Fire... Once we arrived, our server attended to our group with grace and warmth. My friends enjoyed their food, from the pizza to the chicken parmesan to the pasta. I usually eat chicken Alfredo, but tried the shrimp Alfredo and it was delicious! Toward the end of the meal, I was able to choose a complimentary dessert, and went for my server's recommendation, the pistachio cake. As the meal wrapped up, we were stunned when the lights went out (a few of us thought the power went out). However, it was a dramatic transition into me being surprised with cake and song! The cake was layered beautifully, fragrant and fluffy, and not too sweet. I passed it down the table for each of my friends to try, and they all offered words of praise. I'm looking forward to returning when I'm craving traditional Italian food again! Thank you for helping to create a special memory.

A Modo Mio offers many food specials. For example, on Tuesdays, that's when we stopped there for…read moredinner, all their pasta dishes are 1/2 price. However, given that they ranked 32nd among this country's top 50 Pizza restaurants, I had to order a pizza. And I'll get to my pizza after I discuss some other things, because it all plays together. Also, during my visit, I kept drawing comparisons between this place and Pupatella, a local Neapolitan pizza juggernaut. The Big Question to answer is why A Modo Mio got a spot on the Top 50 while Pupatella didn't even make the cut. Access is easy, and parking is good. There are lots of spaces that wrap around the restaurant. That's in contrast to Pupatell, which has limited parking and where I always wind up using the Safeway lot across the street. The restaurant is clean and spacious, with plenty of comfortable seating. It also has a long, well-stocked bar where you can sit to enjoy a beverage or a meal. Pupatella doesn't have any of that. When you arrive, you're greeted by a host who shows you to your seat. A very short while later, a waiter shows up and does all the things waiters do. At Pupatella, you wait in line to place your order, then find an open table. TLDR: Your dining experience, outside of the food, is much more civilized and relaxing at A Modo Mio. The pie that earned their 32 out of 50 ranking was the Sicilia. But I ordered a 12" Casertana because I'm not crazy about eggplant and like sausage. The pie arrived a short while later, piping hot and loaded with sausage. The taste was sublime and delicious. My only complaint was that the basil was added before baking, and I prefer that herb when it's not reduced to ash. So back to The Big Question, is the A Modo Mio pizza *that* much better than Pupatella that it earned a spot amongst the Top 50 while the other one didn't even make the cut? Frankly, it's not. It is good pizza... possibly great pizza. But that's also true of the other place. What sets A Modo Mio apart from that other place, and the answer to the Big Question, is that the criteria for generating the Top 50 list included more than the pizza. It also took into account: - Hospitality and Service - Ambiance - Beverage Program. Beyond the pizza, A Modo Mio has those things in abundance, while the other place pretty much has none. TLDR: Comparing pizzas side by side, the two places are on par. However, if you take into account the entire dining experience, you will be much happier with your pizza here, as opposed to that other place or most other pizza restaurants in the DMV area.

But to be honest... even with "fork and knife pizza" the toppings should not be goopy and slippery. Does the best pie and Arlington hold like that on the regular? Nothing special about the toppings either. The crust and dough were the best part of this experience, but an amazing pie, should have all component's complimenting each other. Is it decent pizza? Yes. Best pizza in Arlington? I don't think so.

So, this time, ordered my pizza before 9:00 PM and did not depart immediately -- but instead waited a full 20 minutes before even walking there slow. When I arrived, the pizza was..... still not ready. It occurs to me that this shop is situated in a time zone that is somehow TEN MINUTES BEHIND the time your order is due. The guy says "five minutes." In any case, I stand, I wait.... and I.... wait some more. It wasn't five minutes. Lots of workers standing. Nearing the 9:30 mark, someone finally says "have you been helped?" And whadda ya know? Found out the reason I was still waiting - BECAUSE MY PIE WAS SITTING THERE THE WHOLE DAMN TIME! Getting cold. She says "we're just getting that cut up." But they weren't - it was already cut. They took one of their old pies off the rack and slid it right into a box. It wasn't in the oven. I could feel it was cold, but yes, I took it and went home. I can't say you couldn't eat it but.... it wasn't good. We did eat some of it, but only after baking it in my own oven. Good thing I ordered in advance, eh? If you are going to do a take out here, my advice would be to skip ordering altogether, and just go there and get the slices yourself. They won't be too fresh, but at least it will be fast. Better yet, go across the street to Quincy Hall, (or over to Wise Guys) where they will bake the pizza to order and have it hot and ready when you arrive. Keep in mind here they charge $32 for a pizza, full price only. NOT worth it, won't be back, do not recommend.

Oftentimes there's something wrong with restaurant Italian food. Maybe it's the serving size, the sauce, the quality of the meat, the pasta itself, or the price. I have to say they all lined up perfectly here. The price point is rather high, but considering quality and quantity, it makes perfect sense, and I'd say is well-priced. I'll also add - I ordered my food from a delivery service. So I didn't even get to experience the restaurant itself, where I'm sure the food would have been even better. If I had one piece of constructive criticism, the meatballs were maybe a tad too salty. I loved them, but to eat all four in the Matrimonia, I felt a bit tapped out by the end. This is also because the serving size is, as mentioned, massive. So really hard to say this is a criticism, as if there were fewer or smaller meatballs, you'd be extra grateful for the punch they have.

I've heard about this place from several people and tonight a friend and I decided to take our…read morechances with no reservation. The hostess apologized that we were on a two-hour waitlist without a reservation, but we were all in at this point so said go ahead and put us on it. Simultaneously we staked out the bar and, after about a half hour, scored two seats in the very small, 6 to 8 seat bar. They serve the full menu there and we really enjoyed the very kind, knowledgeable bartender, so decided to drop from the waitlist and stay put. As a vegetarian, my offerings here were a bit slim but there were a few. Three entrées were listed under pasta with vegetables, but one, the carbonara, does contain pancetta. The bartender said we could leave that out to make it vegetarian and it was the most popular choice so I went with it. It had spinach and ricotta ravioli, mushrooms and some peas. It was absolutely delicious. When we left we saw a sweet nonna making raviolis in the front window. Amazing. All the pasta is handmade. My friend got one of the specials which included lobster, scallops and pasta in a lobster sauce. The bartender described how they press the lobster for the sauce and my friend was out of her mind at how delicious it was. She's taking her leftovers on a flight home to Cleveland. The bartender mentioned he was a nondrinker like myself and was happy to put together a mocktail for me. It was orange, cranberry and pineapple juice with some soda and it was delicious, made even better with a garnish of a cherry and orange slice that made it feel intentional and special. We got tiramisu for dessert which is probably going to go down in my memory as one of the top tiramisus I have eaten anywhere. They have a dessert case in front that reminded me of a famous dessert case at Gullifty's, a restaurant from Pittsburgh's distant past. In one of the joys of sitting at a bar we struck up a conversation with two older gentlemen, one who was celebrating a birthday. The bartender brought over some Sambuca and amaretto and offered each of the gentlemen and my friend a cordial glass of either. Everyone chose the amaretto, and I was a bit sorry to no longer be drinking because I would have been all in on the Sambuca. That was a nice touch. This place goes all out on decorations, currently for America's 250th birthday, but my friend said last time it was like that for Halloween. This restaurant is a bit of an experience and I really enjoyed it. The only thing stopping it from being five stars was my disappointment in them not having a red sauce suitable for vegetarians. It's Sunday sauce or tomato sauce, both of which have a meat base. Even the eggplant lasagna has Sunday sauce which is an odd choice as this is something a lot of vegetarians might otherwise order. I've run into this a lot and know from my own kitchen it's not hard to make a marinara, which would be a lovely option to offer. A fun night out. With one drink each and a split dessert, plan on spending at least $100 a person here. My bill was just under 100 for vegetarian entrée, mocktail, half the dessert and tip.
