Very bad service and rude staff that works here. So basically you have to order drinks and the table and grab your own food from the trucks. Went there on a Friday night, the weather was cloudy and little windy. If it starts to rain they will kick you out because apparently opening umbrellas even though they have it is not allowed. They literally close the place and ask you to gulp your drinks down because you cannot carry your drinks out. The staff is very extremely rude too. There are better waterfront places in Hoboken and definitely can give this a miss! read more

There are many appealing things about this amazing little strip of pier that jets out into the Hudson. But one thing that continues to impress me is how well it's managed. The security guards are great. In an area like NYC,, where all these security guards have this warped sense of reality about what their job really is.. These guys are great. Always friendly when you have to show your ID at the front. They run around and clean up when things around your little area are dirty and need attention. And.. if there is one thing I noticed the most. It's that you can't stand along the rail of one of the sides... It's a fire hazard set by some goofy fire marshal. They know it's a bullshit rule but it's security's job to enforce it. They don't want to tell you to move but they have to.. But,,they do it in a really nice way. all night long.. To tons of drunk assholes. Believe it or not,, I just got thrown out of the place! Yup, 5 star yelp review right after being asked to leave. I met up with a friend who had been drinking all day. She could have been considered by some, to be....a little hamboned. So the Manger Kindly asked if he could speak to me.. When I said sure and walked over to him,,He ask me in a very respectful, polite and professional way.. and in not so many words... to get her drunk ass out of there. And he was right,, it was time for her to go home. I thanked him for handling my situation in such a professional manner. What impressed me the most is how considerate he was about it. 90% of other places would have handled that differently. I don't think most security guards are properly trained on the right way to talk or handle those difficult interactions. But these guys are. And it's always impressed me. It's was probably the nicest way I've ever been tossed out of a place...ever. And I gotta respect that. Good job guys... I'll be back next week.. Came here on a sunday night, pretty chill crowd. Such a beautiful and chill place to relax and hang out with friends. They do offer a good variety of alcoholic drinks, it is cash only. There is also always food trucks around, some take card but to be safe I suggest always carrying cash. When you approach the area, they ask if you'll be drinking, if you are, they check IDs then give you a wristband. Cannot leave the area with a drink in your hand. There are chairs and benches and tables for you to sit and enjoy your meal there and closer to the view too. All in all, great place to hang with your friends on a sunday night. read more

I am a 60 year old man, recently "attempted" to visit Pier 13 with my wife, 30 year son amd his girlfriend. We got to the front of the line when I realized I had left my wallet home with my license. I had cash and credit cards with my name( that matched my wifes and sons), and they refused admission to me. How ridiculous, am I not 21 I asked?. Their foolish reply was its not about age, you need ID. I had things bearing my name, just not photo ID!... I COULD WALK IN FROM MEXICO AND VOTE WITHOUT ID, BUT NEED IT TO WALK ON A PIER? What a bunch of foolish people, we would have spent lots of $$$ , and had 4 more people meeting us. I understand cases where there is any doubt of someones age, ( not in my case), but no admission for not having a photo ID is RIDICULOUS! Love this outdoor pier day drinking spot, which is luckily a 3 minute walk from my apartment. Probably the most popular day drinking spot in Hoboken / Jersey City area. Amazing place to chill, grab some drinks, and take in the breathtaking Manhattan views from across the Hudson. Wednesday is the best day to go in my opinion, as their half off happy hour brings in a solid crowd. Weekends are too busy / too packed which often leads to a long wait for drink. Make sure to bring cash as it's cash only. Food on the pier is also fantastic - Pizza Vita is my favorite, but the older gentleman is a bit nasty at times so be aware of that. Pro tip: if you don't have cash and want to avoid the $5 ATM fees, right across the street is a Rite Aid (1320 Bernard McFeeley Shipyard Ln #4, Hoboken, NJ) where they give you cash back. My husband and I have lived in Hoboken for more than 10 years so been to the Pier multiple times before. What should have been a lovely, easy drink on a Thursday at 4 PM was a ridiculous situation. We brought our 6-month old and were seated at a picnic table. Quickly we realized our table was one of about half that didn't have an umbrella and the sun was blazing hot. We asked the runner if we could move to the next table over, with an umbrella. He said he'd ask the hostess. We waited - no one ever told us. So we asked our waitress. She said "No problem, go ahead." We moved over and put up the umbrella, took our daughter out to sit on our lap in the shade. Not long after a manager comes up to us, borderline yelling: "WHO TOLD YOU, you could move to this table??" We started to reply and he cut us off "I believe the hostess explicitly said you could NOT move to this table." He probably repeated these statements 3 times before we could get a word in to tell him what happened. He continued to talk down to us saying the table was reserved and said we weren't allowed to put up the umbrella because there'd been wind that morning (it was completely calm and still when we were there). Before we could move much of anything - let alone our child or ourselves - he started quickly putting down the umbrella on top of our heads as we scrambled to get out of the way. The manager AGAIN told us this table had been reserved; we offered to move, he said "No, stay here, it's fine." (In the way you know it's not really FINE.) And side note to make it all better - there were a TON of open tables. Such a ridiculous situation to be blamed for and talked down to for. And this is supposed to be a family-friendly place? End of story: If you want to be treated like children yourselves, this is the place for you. If not, I'd highly recommend the Pilsnerhaus Biergarten or many other places we've often frequented in Hoboken. read more

Pros: best views, great concept (although terribly executed) Cons: literally everything else. Where do I start? 1. Bouncers are so rude it's comical. Not only will they inspect your ID like you're trying to sneak into the White House, they'll scream at you if you don't have your ID immediately on hand. My friend and I came here on Saturday night and stepped to the side to get our ID's out. There wasn't anyone behind us, but even if there had been we weren't in the way. The bouncers were yelling at us to hurry up as if there was a line down the block. CHILL OUT 2. Again with the yelling! After security clearance we headed to the bar and stepped to the side to look at the drink menu. No line, but we were yelled at to hurry up and order. We can both see that there is no line - you don't need to keep screaming "NEXT NEXT NEXT NEXT" 3. You'd hope they're pouring liquid gold into the cup with the price of the drinks 4. Children EVERYWHERE. I love kids on any other day, but I'm sorry- if I'm not allowed into the bar area without an ID and I'm clearly of age, kids shouldn't be allowed back there either. The parents don't pay attention to them and they run around like crazy. Considering that there's drunk animals everywhere it's kinda dangerous 5. The crowd... see "drunk animals" above. It's pretty obvious that 70% of the crowd at any given time is NOT from Hoboken. The only reason this is bad is because when people from out of town come to Hoboken, they're either A) going to Carlo's Bakery or B) partying HARD (and this crowd def isn't going to the bakery.) I've seen countless girls puking over the rails into the river in the middle of the day. Expect at least a couple drinks spilled on you per visit. They occasionally have an ambulance on standby... 6. Seating is rare if you go when it's busy. Large groups will use chairs for their beer buckets and the bouncers won't tell them to move it, yet if you try to squeeze 2 people on a chair they'll come over and tell you you can't. Good food and drinks, great ambiance, and stunning views. What more could you ask for. This is the perfect spot to come with a significant other, coworkers, friends, and family. There are also Lime scooters lying around everywhere which are so fun and cheap to ride around the waterfront. Made the 90 minute drive here for a friend's birthday, and read all the negative reviews beforehand. While I prefer Spruce Street Harbor Park, this was a pleasant surprise after thinking i'd hate it! The view of the New York skyline is just as beautiful as pictures suggest, with a good view of the Empire State Building. Pier 13 is just what the name implies, a long pier turned psuedo beer garden. Parking is awful around Hoboken. The garages are happy to charge $35 for 3 hours, but there was a good amount of metered parking for us since it was an early Saturday still. Staff weren't rude as the other reviews suggest, but they did get on people for sitting on the dock, since you're packed like sardines already. The beer selection is lacking, but they have enough choices to get something you'd like. Drafts are $9, cans are $7, and cocktails are $12-$14. I was drinking Brooklyn Summer Ales at my local South Jersey dive the night before for $2.80 and now I saw them here for $9.00; had to get something else on principal. Pregaming is recommended if you're not a South Jersey resident. The lines are long too, so go back for a beer when you still got some left in your cup to keep the buzz going! The food selection is vast with food trucks, but by 7:00pm, most were sold out. There's an ice cream sandwich truck, a Mexican truck, a Vietnamese truck, and a truck named Moo-something that was out of chicken, pork, and beef, but still had camel burgers and elk burgers. All in all, it was a good time. I wouldn't recommend going without a group and the age of the crowd was heavily in the 21-23 range. Bring an exorbitant amount of cash too, as the whole place is cash only. As cheap as I am, the location and view makes the beer cost worth it for a long stay. read more

I think this place went from 2 to 5 stars throughout the course of the night. If you want to have a 5 star experience heed my advice: -come at a weird time so you can get a table. -stop by the food trucks on the way in. They are separate from the drinking area and you won't wanna go back out. -be a little tipsy before you get here. The only way you can tolerate the beer line. -slowly walk through the crowd and take it all in. From a purely sociological point of view. -walk to the end of the pier. For some reason the guidos don't make it out that far. Maybe they don't wanna get grass stains on their kicks but hey, it's your gain. The strollers can't make it through the grass either so its not like drinking at a playground. -take in the NYC view with a plastic cup of fine wine in your hand and rock out to the 90's freshest freestyle jams. There's tons of food trucks to choice from; the trucks change from week to week so double check online of the line-up for something particular. When you go further down is more like an outside lounge feel. They have three drink stands. They're all cash only, but don't worry there's ATMs. There's turf grass for you to sit, relax and enjoy the NYC skyline. Most of the time they have live music. You can check out the water sports activities that they have available and the dog park too. Try the watermelon drink or the coconut drink; it's definitely delicious! Rude employees who can't be bothered, probably pissed off b/c the crowd is so annoying and act like they're in the VIP section in a club. Pier 13 has become my new summertime happy hour hangout. Situated on the doc, jutting out into the Hudson, there is no seat without a spectacular view. As you approach the pier, there are food trucks set up (Thursday through Sunday). Walk passed the bouncer, and there are picnic tables not either side of the walkway, with board games on most. Past the picnic tables is probably the best part. A very large grassy area, with comfortable beach-type chairs, little cocktail tables in the form of metal crab trap looking contraptions, and of course a beer pong table. Feel free to bring your own chairs or blanket, but if you get there close to the 5pm opening during the week, there are usually plenty of seats. Many craft beers on tap, but also a small selection of liquors, mixed drinks, and frozen drinks. Since the grand opening was just on the Fourth of July (2012), this is a newer addition to Hoboken, so is still somewhat of a hidden gem and has not been ruined yet. Beers are mostly over $5, and mixed drinks (well the vodka/soda at least) are $10 but the bartenders have heavy hands. Also, they do now accept credit cards! (used to be cash only). This place is absolutely perfect for a day you bust out of work early and need to take in the sunshine for a bit longer. Not as packed as the Frying Pan. This is a great option if you just want a relaxing day with a few friends, sun, and great views. I can't rave about the drinks because I've tried the frozen drinks, the lemonade with vodka, the sangria and they are all $10 each & weak. The can beers are $6, but it would be the better choice, in my opinion. $25 minimum on your cards -which isn't bad because you'll need more than 3 drinks anyway. There's plenty of seating but the earlier you get there the better. You can also bring your own chair and sit by the grass area. The lines to get drinks are longgg, not sure why -doesn't seem like the bartenders are putting much liquor in their mixed drinks. The food trucks is a great idea especially after a few drinks. I've tried the "Addicted" food truck and the pizza one (forgot the name) definitely enjoyed my pizza more than the cold rice. There are only a couple of tables, fewer still with umbrellas so on a hot day it gets HOT. Service was efficient and fast. Never had to wait more the 5 minutes for a drink and was served with a smile. I believe their is a limit on the credit cards so keep that in mind. Only a few of the food trucks take cash so make sure you have a little of both handy as their isn't an ATM on site. Very family friendly atmosphere as their were plenty of new parents with strollers. This place has pretty much the best view you can get in Hoboken. The food truck options are pretty great, too - Hibachi, Thai, Pizza, etc - but the clientele is iffy, and SUPER jersey for the most part. You have the normal looking people who come there very casually. Those people are clearly from the area. You then have the people who try too hard to look cool with their cut off and beach muscles, or the females who dressed as if they're going to a club in the Meatpacking Dist. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy looking at attractive people as much as the next person, but the carefully created looks you see here are somewhat hilarious and obnoxious at the same time. My view of this place is, A) it is not a beer garden and I feel like they've mislabeled themselves. In no way is them not being a beer garden a negative - it is a really unique place, so good for them. B) the food is good. C) the drinks are fair priced. Seriously, why didn't anyone tell me about this place before?!?! This place is just awesome to hang out with friends, while overseeing the awesome views of the city. Whether you're in your 20s, 30s, single, married, have kids, or even a dog or two, you will fit in. There are tables lined against one side of the pier but if you go all the way to the back, you can grab a beach chair or a beanbag, your bucket of sangria or beer, and just chill out with your friends while listening to some sweet sweet music in the background. I was here for Sunday Funday and although it gets packed, there was still enough space for everyone. They also have a couple of good food trucks to choose from if you want something to munch on, ranging from Belgian waffles, pizza, meatballs, Indian, etc. Seriously, what better way to spend your Sunday? I'm in love! What better way to spend a gorgeous day? Sitting on some lawn chairs with a delicious drink and gazing at the city skyline. What a view! Plenty of food trucks to choose from and loads of drinks to pick. I do have a complaint that the drinks are a bit pricey and lack the taste of alcohol in them. I had a watermelon punch and I didn't taste any alcohol in mine. Other than that I love that they do this on the weekdays and weekends. It's really pretty over here at night. We just took a stroll through because we had our pup at the dog park right next door. The bar/restaurant is on a deck that overlooks the water and NYC skyline. It's really quite beautiful. There are food truck vendors all along here, anything from burgers to smoothies. They look very clean too! Decided to cross the river to come hangout at a friend's neighborhood. We dropped by on Wednesday so we got the Babyback Ribs from Oink and Moo BBQ and Pollo Asado from The Taco Truck - they were really good. He brought me here knowing how much I love the city view ... it was amazing. Nice day out and the place was very relaxing. Get to sit on those beanbags while drinking some IPA. This is a great place for a laid back night or to hit up before heading out for the night. The beginning of the pier has a bunch of food trucks. Everything looked really good. We didn't get to the food trucks until around 9:30 and all but 2 were closed for the night which was super disappointing. We tried the bbq place since it was the only one open, other than the waffle one (deserts). I had an order of bbq chicken sliders for about 10 bucks. They were nothing special but not bad either....just okay. If we came earlier we would have totally tried the empanada and pizza truck. At the end of the pier is the bar area that you need to show id to enter. The crowd was mixed. I was expecting the typical Hoboken crowd but was happy to see some older people and *some* (but not much) diversity. The drinks were around $11 bucks. My friends raved about the watermelon punch and how fresh it tasted, the coconut drink and the strong peach white sangria. Just a warning, they close at 11 so don't plan it for a late night out.
