Do not visit Pier 22 if you have a gluten intolerance or allergy. Both my wife and I have gluten intolerance that (although not as bad as those who suffer from Celiac) creates at least 7 days of issues that aren't fun. We've gotten use to navigating menus and generally don't have a lot of issues. While visiting Bradenton this year, I chose Pier 22 after reviewing the menu and seeing the number of "gluten friendly" options. Everything was fine until we ordered and were asked to fill out a food allergy card that had to be handed in at the time of the order. This is the first time I've ever been asked to do this but I thought it was a sign Pier 22 took food allergies seriously. The problem occurred when the server was asking if we were Celiac. We've had other restaurants ask if we had an "allergy" or a preference" (perfectly acceptable) but I've never had a server who was insistent on trying to push for us to share a medical diagnosis. As we explained (multiple times) that we have an intolerance and we need to be gluten free, she didn't seem satisfied and we felt like she was pushing harder than needed. The real issue was when a manager came out with our cards and wanted to interrogate us more. By interrogate I mean ask us directly if we carry epipens. At this time we told her they were taking this too far and we shared our gluten issues at the time of the order and that should be enough. Still, she persisted, saying that FL laws recently changed and they needed to know more information now. When asked which laws and when she changed to saying she was just trying to be out "advocate". Considering I have spent 2 weeks in Florida in march alone, the "changing laws" excuse seems to be total BS. In short, we felt like our privacy was invaded and unwelcome. If Pier 22 doesn't want to serve or accommodate those with food allergies, just don't offer gluten friendly options on your menu. But if you are going to offer options for people with food allergies, then they need to find a different way to approach the situation that doesn't include interrogation, invasion of privacy or making guest feel unwelcome. Update 4/1/23: The GM, Nicole did reach out and we spoke for a while. I reiterated that the issue wasn't with the cards, it was with the staff that was getting way too personal with the questions about medical history and diagnosis. As I sit here and write this update it is still astounding that the manager on duty at the time of our visit felt it was appropriate to ask (several times) if we had epi pens. Anyway, Nicole assures me that the staff was NOT following restaurant the new restaurant POLICY (not FL Law like the manager on duty stated) when they were asking the invasive questions. I believe Nicole was sincere when she said the staff will get additional training as well as the Manager (who should know better) to fix the issue going forward. read more

I have been here for both lunch and dinner. Had a great experience both times. Both food and service was great. Dinner was a date night and we made reservations a head of time. We had a table closest to the water and the ambience was perfect. Came back for lunch a few months later and it was just as good. Will be back. read more

Honestly I love the vinegar chips they're one of the greatest aspects of humanity, I'm sure some of the other food is very good I've just never made it that far. An epic happy hour 3:00 to 7:00 and a great place to sit and just enjoy the world highly recommend it at the beginning middle or end of any day of the week. read more

The selling point of this restaurant is the view and the parking. Service is good depending on who you get, but food is A-OK thus the three stars. The restaurant itself is a little musky and dark, a little reminiscent of an old banquet hall that needs updating, so I prefer to eat outside on the patio for the water view and fresh air. I've had several items on the menu and really, nothing stands out as either good or bad. They don't prepare anything poorly, just nothing that wows you, so you'll be safe pretty much ordering anything. If you see my pics, there's a little more description to the items. Love..love this place. Came at lunch right when they opened. Was led out onto the patio by the lovely hostess and chose a table under the tree by the water. Lynn my wonderful waitress offered me a cold drink and i opted for a ruby red champagne cocktail. Since i was in no particular hurry i had found the perfect place to linger. A nice breeze ..sunny day and waterfront dining ..what more could i ask for? The locals came for lunch and lynn told me stories about the bird migrations that happen here...same time...every year. We watched the yachts go in and out and commented on the puffy cloud formations. Perused the menu..which is quite impressive wi th some wonderul options including a massive sushi menu. I opted for the lamb lollipops that are grilled then breaded and baked. Served with a garlic pesto sauce and mixed greens these babies were perfection! After a couple more drinks i decided my time here was sadly over. I definitely plan on returning to taste more of the menu options and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere again. Pure perfection read more

This was one of the worst meals my husband and I have ever had. We split the surf and turf and everything came out cold, it seemed like they just nuked the asparagus and mashed potatoes or they were sitting under a heat lamp. Everything was tasteless. The bread was a day old or longer. The French fries that my husband ordered came out cold, burnt and looked like they had been sitting there for hours. They brought a second batch, same thing. We drove from Anna Maria to dine here tonight. We are visiting in the area but are local to Tampa area. I recently relocated from the Boca Raton area to Tampa. I have been on the west coast for the past 10 months. I had yet to find any restaurants that even come close to meeting my expectations. I am extremely picky when it comes to service and great tasting food. Greg, our waiter tonight was great. Super friendly and knew exactly when to come to the table. The food was delicious as well. Just a tad dry with both the chicken and fish but overall absolutely excellent. Risotto that came with the fish was delicious. I would even entertain driving back here from Tampa. Pier 22 has a nice spot in Bradenton on the water. The service was good - albeit a bit slow but our waitress more than made up for it with her friendly attitude. You pay for the view, NOT for the food. Extremely overpriced food that is comparable to having the quality of Applebees. I spent over $100 on food + drinks on a date here and I regret it. The wait staff is very nice and helpful. Don't let the nice view and higher end menu options fool you into thinking Pier 22 has quality menu items, the food is bland and low quality. I am convinced that a lot of restaurants in the SRQ area that have a nice view mark up their prices, Pier 22 is honestly just a cash grab. This place is way overrated. It may have been the dish I ordered or the server I had. Both were awful. The clam Chowder was good, but it got bad from there. The jambalaya taste like can stew tomatoes and tasteless chicken. Not an dash of seasoning. I sent it bad. Reordered Crab cakes. They came dried up from sitting under the heat lamp? We waited until the last night of vacation to come here. Took a while to get seated, even though it was not busy at all. We did get a table looking at the water. The server came over and was not very friendly. We ordered a drinks, an appetizer and two entrees, which we split. On a positive note, the food was excellent! The server never came back to check on us. We noticed that all the other tables all had a bread basket except us. I asked for a to-go box and she brought a tiny one. I had to get up and find a larger one. I don't know if she was irritated that we were splitting the entrees or if she didn't really did not want to be at work that night. She definitely did not want to be waiting on us! We paid the bill, tipped well, even though it wasn't warranted. Asked to speak to a manager and was told he would have to call us. Very quick happy hour service at bar on 10/8! Ordered a few HH pizzas and cocktails, and the pizzas were out in 10 minutes (even the gluten-free version!) You should know that from time to time these folks are heavily booked with wedding reception parties / celebrations that can hinder service significantly. That being said, if you go there with the intent of casually dining over a few hours Pier 22 won't disappoint as their good is delicious. Try the prime rib or lobster tails. read more

Happy hour red sangria was a hit with the ladies, I would stay away from the happy hour old fashioned though. Scallop dinner is great! Grouper and salmon are also very strong dishes. read more

Nice atmosphere with views of the River. Service is always very good and attentive, and they are very accommodating to children and the elderly. We came to brunch on a Sunday morning and had the absolute pleasure of having Faith serve us. She recommended the breakfast croissant and it was delicious. Hit the spot! I took my friend here who came in from out of town. I had been here before and had a great experience but that was not the case this time. Our food took over an hour to get to us. How long does it take to prepare soup and salad? Also I noticed when leaving your workers were rolling silverware where people walk in the entrance, and that seems unsanitary. We stopped by on a whim and took a covered golf cart down the pier and just went to the bar outside. It's a very small bar with maybe 8 stools at the bar itself but more along the edge right on the water with a small counter to eat from and place your drinks. It's dog friendly if your dog is well behaved. The beautiful dog that was there was very friendly but git scared when thunder rolled. We've been there several times and it is coolest at night. They have under water lights on the piling of the pier and snook of all sizes swim right below your feet. They have a small bar menu to select from as well. We come here with our large party every time we visit Anna Maria Island and they're always able to accommodate us. The food is good, not too pricey, caters to everyone. I had the jambalaya which happened to fit the gluten free diet that I was on, and it didn't taste too bad. I would not get it again though. Pier 22 is absolutely amazing. My girlfriend and I had stayed in Bradenton for a week and ate here 3 times on our stay and invited our family once they came to enjoy this place. The scenery is absolutely amazing and the atmosphere is relaxed with chill vibes, so anyone can enjoy themselves here. The prices are honestly a steal for the scenery, quality, service and overall experience. Our first stay we were right by the water at the perfect time for a beautiful sunset and even saw some dolphins! The staff every time we're Vee friendly and cared for our every needs. It was very refreshing and made the experience that much better, great job guys! The food is incredible! Though we had the Sushi Boat 2 times out of 3 lol it was absolutely amazing and we are big sushi fans. Our family ordered just about all the main entree's and has no complaints. This place is great for a date, a family getaway or even a drink at the bar if you're looking to chill alone. Pier 22 is exceptional dining for anyone. I will never go back to this place again My wife order a tuna salad and only have 3 1/3 peace's of tuna in it. My shrimp in my jumbolia at tasted funky. The wife lady friend had a hard time find any sea food in her pasta dish and her husband agreed with me that his shrimp in his shrimp scampi didn't taste right. Plus the dishes came out dirty looking ... we talked to the 30 year old manager and told him about our expesrance and it was like talking to the wall. We saw great reviews on Google, but it was a mistake to not look here too... I don't know who our server was because she didn't even introduce herself. She seemed pretty pissed that we were there honestly... everyone is allowed a bad day.. but the place was empty when we got there, so if she didn't feel like serving us she could've asked a colleague (who seemed to be many compared to the volume of customers) to take this one. Our Red Hat group has been going here (Pier 22) for lunch at the same time every year for the last 10 years. We were given our own room which we filled with our ladies, all paying customers. We were there today (Feb 17, 2024) for lunch on a reservation that was made in advance. We were told today that there is a $100, non-refundable charge for the room. Our lady from the group who made the reservation was never told this when she made the reservation. Then they added the $100 to her bill and included it in the 20% automatic charge (tip) that they do for large groups. She asked to speak to the manager who agreed to charge the $100 on a separate ticket but when we asked him when they started charging for the room he said it's always been that way. We told him we've been coming here for 10 years and were never charged $100 for the room. He said it is clearly stated on the contract that the $100 would be charged but we've never had to sign a contract. It appeared the manager was not interested in our situation and was not phased by the fact that we've been customers for years. We just didn't feel that he thought we were important. We will of course not be going there in the future (another thing that didn't phase him when we told him). I really think we should not have had to pay the $100 today as we were never told of this charge when the reservation was made. It's too bad that this restaurant doesn't care about their customers, especially repeat customers. read more

Gifted location right on the Manatee River. There is seating inside or outside. We sat outside and it is perfect to watch the sunset, the water and the boats. They have a pretty and classy patio with overhead string lights that reminds me of al fresco dining in Europe. They offer a nice wine selection. The menu has a good selection and there are specials of the day. I ordered the special: white snapper scampi style. It was delicious and well made: crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. The sauce as good as it was is not a true scampi, it had tomatoes and spinach and it was thicker. It comes with two sides so I ordered the vegetable of the day and the asparagus. I also ordered a small house salad, very tasty and fresh.
