This restaurant has been on my list since February of 2024. My sister in law raved about the deviled eggs. It's a very spacious location with tons of modern homey decor. The staff was super attentive and friendly from the hostess to the servers. We had a few hiccups but the fixed them and made them right. My one recommendation would be to put your own leftovers away. They took my food away to bag it up and did not put my leftovers in my bag. I was sad the next day. Let me start by saying the service was amazing, 10/10. PD went above and beyond to ensure that our party enjoyed our experience. Matt was also very helpful and accommodating. Good vibes all around. This black owned restaurant is located in the old Oakland Tribune building. It has a spacious layout and with a nice, simple decor. Plenty of seating is available in the waiting area, a nice bar, and good music. I came for a birthday dinner and our drinks were really good! My favorite was the strawberry lemon drop. I had the lamb chops with whipped mashed potatoes. The chops were tender but the flavor was just okay. Everything else I tried was good. I would come back to try another entree.

Despite the mixed reviews, my boyfriend and I really wanted to check this place out and we came prepared knowing that the service could be hit or miss. First impression ... you walk in and immediately see the half circle bar and a wall lined with couches. A cute and vibey area to wait before being seated - they also had a DJ the Friday night we went. Despite having a reservation we had to wait a good 15-20 minutes to get seated. Once seated at the table, I was surprised that the menus looked like a school craft project ... scalloped edges made by those craft scissors ... laminated ... and strangely small. It looked like a dessert menu or an after thought. Service was surprisingly reasonable - food didn't take long at all. But looking at other pictures on yelp, their portions and plating are WILDLY inconsistent. We ordered the steak, Brussel sprouts, surf n turf Mac n cheese, 2 glasses of wine and cheesecake dessert. There wasn't anything to really brag about. Not the best, but definitely not the worst either. Steak was perfectly cooked, my boyfriend really liked the Mac. I wish the Brussel sprouts were on a plate and not a bowl because they eventually lost their crispy fry and became soggy. If I were to come back I'd likely go to the bar with my girls or come after work for a night cap. I say check them out at least once. Show this local business some love. They definitely have some kinks to work out and once they do ... this place has so much potential!

*******BLACK OWNED BUSINESS ALERT******* I made an unplanned trip to Pierre Pierre to celebrate a birthday. It was a late reservation that we got to early. They were not ready for us but we were able to pull up to the bar and chill. I am just going to say the service there is like no other, I promise. Fuqn Awesome Service. First it is always great to be in a place that's for us by us!! The DJ was doing his thang, folks were out looking good and having a good time. It's a vibe. The drinks were decent. I really enjoyed the Pierre Pierre Side Car. It was purple. Cute. The food was good. A couple of dishes were sent back by the birthday girl but what I had was flavorful. Listen, I always say go try for yourself. My review is to get you in the door. This place is definitely on the list for a go to place in the Town, and this is coming from someone from the City. Birthday Dinner Gone Wrong I debated whether to share this experience, as my intention is never to harm a business. However, my disappointment and frustration with my visit to Pierre Pierre compel me to provide feedback. My best friend and her boyfriend planned this dinner to celebrate my 31st birthday. While we were seated fairly quickly, it took over 10 minutes to order drinks and receive water. To my surprise, the restaurant had run out of all beer and iced tea by 7 PM on a Sunday. Upon reading other reviews, it seems this is a recurring issue that has yet to be resolved. After another 15-minute wait, we ordered appetizers. We opted for the flight of wings to sample different flavors. Unfortunately, two varieties tasted nearly identical, with the only distinction being a powdery topping on one. The third wing was unappetizing, with an odd gray-green appearance and too many competing flavors. Next, we received the "truffle fries," which were soft and lacked any discernible truffle flavor. I kindly asked if they could be remade to be crispier and requested ketchup, which never arrived. After waiting another 15 minutes, the fries were brought back, but the quality was still disappointing. For a restaurant at this price point, I was shocked to see it serve what appeared to be generic Kraft ranch dressing--a significant letdown. The service throughout the evening felt rushed and dismissive. The waitress frequently sped by, asking, "You good?" without waiting for a response. This behavior felt unprofessional and inattentive. We ultimately decided to end our dining experience early. We spoke with what I assume was the manager, who was incredibly kind and understanding. We canceled our main courses, and he offered us complimentary cheesecake and later, a round of shots. We accepted the latter, which was a nice gesture. Before leaving, however, the waitress made an odd and offensive comment, asking if I was a Capricorn. When I said yes, she replied, "Oh, yes, I get it. I'm the same way; us Capricorns are different." My friends and I found the comment perplexing. To top it off, they sang "Happy Birthday" with a candle on a plate, awkwardly referring to me as "Capricorn." The whole interaction was bizarre. Additionally, the bill was incorrect twice before being resolved. On a positive note, the restaurant has a nice ambiance, and the busboys were friendly and attentive. I also appreciated the manager's efforts to address the situation. However, based on my experience, I don't plan to return. That said, I always encourage others to try places for themselves--you may have a better experience. If you decide to visit, I recommend going earlier in the evening to avoid issues with limited drink availability. Best of luck to this business.

Ok so I had been seeing the Tik Tok's regarding this hot new spot in Oakland so I decided to come check it out! Made a reservation and upon arriving we waited! We waited for about 30 minutes and finally was seated! I'll say the theme of the night was waited! After getting our table we again waited about ten minutes before our waiter came and took our drink and order! Since we were picking up on the waiting vibe we made sure we knew what we wanted by the time he came. We went with the flight of wings, deviled eggs, I had the ribeye and my wife ordered the lamb chops! I ordered a club soda with lime. And once again we waited! Our waiter told me the bar was backed up and that's why I waited again for my drink! It was just a club soda!! The appetizers came out rather quickly. The wings were decent I couldn't really differentiate between two of the flavors the actually tasted similar the crack wings and another kind! Tasted like sweet chili. The wings were ok, I'd give em a 6 outta 10. Now the deviled eggs on the other hand they were pretty darn good. I do recommend 8 outta 10. The ribeye was really good nice crust cook to my preferred temperature! I did not taste the lamb chops but my wife said they were really good also! For dessert we shared the Bischoff crust peanut butter cheesecake. The only complaint I had about it was it could've been left to sit out for a little before serving to soften up that crust but otherwise that thing was OFF THE HOOK!! Now I'm reading the reviews one thing that came up in a lot of them was the wait! If you come here you may experience the regular restaurant wait times as we watched some tables around us get there food quickly but others appeared to have to wait like us! But wait time aside I enjoyed the experience other than the Warriors playing like crap as I waited for everything at the restaurant!!

I rarely give five-star reviews, but for this restaurant, I wish I could give ten. The parking is typical for downtown--challenging, but I'd circle the block all day for this place. We visited on a busy Friday night, and from the moment we walked in, the ambiance set the mood perfectly: my favorite R&B tracks playing, a full bar, and an elegant, vibrant atmosphere. Despite the crowd, we were seated almost immediately, and that's when the five-star experience truly began. Our server, PD, was the star of the night. Warm, attentive, patient, and knowledgeable, he made us feel genuinely cared for, as if he truly loved what he did. He welcomed us by placing napkins on our laps and promptly took our drink orders. I opted for a glass of red wine, while my husband tried the "Paradise" cocktail, which was like a mini-vacation in a glass--absolutely fantastic. For appetizers, we chose the deviled eggs and the crack wings. Both were exceptional--the wings had an ideal blend of crispiness, sweetness, and spice, while the deviled eggs practically melted in our mouths. Just when we thought the experience couldn't get any better, the chef came by to check in on us and recommended the red snapper. I'm so glad he did; it was wonderfully seasoned, with a bed of rice bursting with flavor. Our main courses were just as impressive. I ordered the stuffed chicken, while my husband went for the steak and lobster, with sides of mac and cheese and broccolini to share. Every dish was divine--I was so impressed and full, I didn't know what to do with myself! PD made sure to switch out our silverware with each course, even presenting my husband with a selection of knives to cut his steak. Though it's on the pricier side, this restaurant is worth every penny for a special night out, a celebration, or a girls' night. If you haven't been, I highly recommend you try it--you won't be disappointed!

Saw Pierre Pierre highlighted on an IG influencer page and decided to pop by for dinner one evening. The good: the food. The bad: the ambiance. It was rather loud for our taste and while the decor was beautiful, the crowd was not really for us. Neither were the cocktails (most leaned to the sweet-side). The food was truly the highlight. The Port-de-Pierre wings were juicy and seasoned well. The rack of lamb was cumin-forward and one of the best I've eaten anywhere, hands down. The king salmon was also absolutely divine. Both were cooked perfectly. We finished the meal off with cheesecake and it was drool worthy.

Officially this is my new favorite spot for amazing food, a vibrant atmosphere, and the friendliest service you could wish for while dining out. The lounge waiting area is an ideal spot for people-watching, sipping drinks, and relaxing comfortably while you wait for a table, especially if you didn't make a reservation. This time, we savored the crab fried rice, lobster, and irresistible lamb chops that never disappoint! Plus, we indulged in the Rasta pasta, a penne dish brimming with tender oxtail beef in a delightfully spicy Alfredo sauce. Absolutely delicious!

Stumbled upon this place whilst strolling downtown Oak. It seemed to have took over the old Tribune Tavern which I actually liked. But in recent years longevity simply is not in the equation in most urban areas, where 10 years is a long run and anything beyond that is a rare unicorn. Pierre Pierre does seem to have some good cred behind them as their food is pretty solid. And the locals seem to be out to support them, as when we came in on an early Sunday evening, the place was quite packed by 6pm. Old Fashioned ($14/4*) Large single ice cube presentation with 3 gourmet preserved cherries for garnish. Very nice blend, more fruity notes than bourbon flavor, and the color was more of a blush which I've never seen for an old fashioned. Quite tasty but more dessert like for me. I would get one of these next time I come in but at the end of the meal. Seafood Deviled Eggs ($16/4*) First we tried on getting the Salmon Tartare as an app but were told they were out (by 5pm). No big but it does ding a place from ever getting a fiver as it reflects a bit of disorganization and/or lack of commitment in the operations. But these were some of the most unique deviled eggs I've ever tried. First off they take the hard-boiled whites and fry them with a fine breadcrumb coating which made it very warm with a slight crisp. Then they piped in the deviled yolk mixture which was appropriately mustard-y. I think they dotted the top with crab meat but honestly you can't even taste it. But great deviled egg rendition. Creole Lobster ($35/4*) I'm still not sure if their menu is strictly a la carte where you have to order all the sides separately, as when this came out, that's all that was on plate, well some drawn butter as well. And the bartender did not ask if we wanted sides to clarify, as I would have reviewed the menu and reconsidered. Now the good is it was a respectable portion of Pacific lobster tail, cooked well with a dusting of creole seasoning on top. With a glass of wine which I had to reorder cuz they were out of choice #1, it still was a delicious light meal in a happening urban setting. Would come back for a more substantial dinner someday.

First time stopping in for birthday celebration we had a great time. We enjoyed the ambience the excellent service the music. The staff was amazing and the food was delicious and prepared perfectly . Our group enjoyed the lambchops , salmon , wing flight , bottle of Cabernet, Cesar salad , crab fried rice , biscoff cheesecake and delicious cocktails. The happy birthday song was stellar . We will definitely be back !

One of the newer restaurants downtown, Oakland Tribune building. Let me start by saying that it's only been open 6 months, so i feel like the staffing and some of the service was lacking due to that. We came in, had a reservation and were seated on Fathers Day. Nice ambiance, low lights, good lil vibe, real BLACK, it was very nice. Servers come in and set your napkin(s) for you, they wear gloves when serving you all that jazz. Food was banging! The price of a full snapper was $65 which i initially looked at crazy, but after ordering it and seeing what they did with it i understood why! Ordered drinks, i got the old fashioned, and my lady got an espresso martini, both were well handed. We also kicked it out with Jerk chicken wings, and the fried deviled eggs, which were both very good. If you aren't a fried food person i wouldn't recommend the fried deviled eggs. After that we ordered the $65 and i ordered the Lobster. We got the surf n turf mac n cheese to share with the Brussels sprouts to taste as well. I was highly impressed with all the dishes! The snapper had veggies with it cut so precise, and that made the snapper so flavorful i was amazed. My personal favorite was the Brussel sprout ls, our server mentioned that they were deep fried and then sautéed in garlic oil, and i could taste and feel all of that in the food. Surf n turf mac n cheese was a good blend with the salmon and steak. So the reason i gave it a 4 star review is strictly based on the service, we sat down for almost 30 minutes before hearing from anybody which wasn't much of a problem for us as we were elbow deep into conversation. We also got lost in the mix as far as being served our food, some mix up ended up getting us our entrees and appetizers at the same time. Our server threw in a slice of cheesecake for the delay and the cheesecake was actually my 2nd favorite dish of the night. It came doubled crusted, top and bottom and was drizzled off with caramel and powdered sugar. We definitely will be back to hit up the rest of the menu, looking forward to update this review. read more

I went for NYE and mannnn YESSSSSS! I looooove this restaurant. The moment we walked into the restaurant EVERYTHING was ON POINT! 1st thing first I really wanna say thank you to the staff. Stow took care of me I had no reservation came all the way from Atlanta and he made sure I got in. On top of that very respectful and kind made me feel like I was back home in Georgia. Food was top tier I mean honestly it was great. Lamb chops along with the Rasta pasta and Mac and cheese was immaculate. I can't forget the garlic herb wings and the truffle fries. Definitely will be back 100 percent. This restaurant is an embarrassment to Oakland and our black community. They claim to offer a high-class, cultured, fine dining experience -- it is anything but. I do not have time to waste elaborating on everything that was wrong, but let me tell you the most appalling part: We were sitting at the end of the bar and this around middle age black bartender with a rat tail approached us. He introduced himself while wiping snot from his nose with a napkin. He took our order and then proceeded to without washing his hands make drinks for us. All the while his breath smelled of heavy cognac. Looking at him disgustingly, we also saw that his nails were incredibly long, unkempt, and dirty underneath. I will never come to this establishment again, and I will tell everyone I know the same, for they do not deserve to serve anyone. read more

Make sure to stop by Pierre Pierre. You will not be disappointed. I practically live in this place. I can say without a doubt that "this is my favorite restaurant." There is also a parking lot for those of you that are uncomfortable with street parking. You can have a birthday dinner or any type of celebration here. No need to mention the food because I have eaten everything from the menu and I have no complaints. If I did I'm a sure the chef would correct it with any problem. read more

What an amazing resturant! The menu looked a bit limited at first, but everything on it is absolutely amazing. We had the mac and cheese, vegan gumbo, creole salmon tar tar, and deep friend seafood deviled eggs. I dont even know if I can pick a favorite. All of the dishes were unique, cooked perfectly, and had beautiful presentation. The cocktails were certainly on pat with the food and the bartender was friendly and had some great recommendations. Beautiful ambiance in the Tribune building makes for a wonderful date night. It seemed like they were still kinda finding their feet, as it is a newer resturant. However, the few slight hiccups in the service were remedied quickly and more than adequately compensated for. If you haven't eaten at Pierre Pierre, you are truly missing out. read more

The staff was attentive. We did not have to ask for anything, water was refilled, our food plates were taken on time, our waiter made sure we didn't need anything. The appetizers and drinks came out in a timely manner. It took a while for the main course which was phenomenal (I had the chicken and crab fried rice), so in this regard the service was fire! The setback for me, as this was my first time at the establishment, was that our group had to wait an extended period of time to be seated - which was an hour past our reservation time. I spent most of the day holding back on eating, waiting to experience the amazing food and dining experience of this highly acclaimed Black Owned restaurant. The late start for our dining experience threw off the rest of the evening for me hence the reason I gave three stars for this dining experience. read more

Walked 10 blocks to get here when they opened at 4. To only be told they're waiting for "certain things to come in and the first reservation wasn't until 6." Not sure what that meant but the restaurant is empty and I called several times to make sure they were open and no one answered. I'm sure the explanation made sense to them, but it didn't make sense to me. The first time I came here they were closed, but the doors were unlocked and I sent them a message telling them that their restaurant was open a few months back. I guess I'm not having luck with this place. read more

I just ate here for my 60th birthday abd the food was so delicious and beautifully plated. Their mixed drinks were equally great. Restaurant is super busy and a bit noisy but the vibe is great. I'd give a 5 if it were just based on the food. I wasn't as impressed by the service. The host didn't make us feel that welcome. He seemed annoyed by us. The service was super nice but it took about 30 minutes for our drinks. That said, I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Delectable food and wonderful friendly service. Parking can be a bit tough due to the area, but it's worth the Uber ride. Hubs had the chicken which was melt in your mouth tender and seasoned perfectly. I went for the crab farfalle and it was such a generous portion I just knew I'd have leftovers. Unfortunately, it was simply too tasty; the cracked crab and sun-dried tomatoes kept calling me back, I pushed an empty platter to the server. The staff was friendly and capable, Lamar and the hostess (please forgive me for neglecting to get your name!) moved seamlessly. This is a new restaurant, so come and support! It's great for both couples and groups, very classy relaxed vibes and the drinks were good too! read more

Wanted to love this place but waiting 45-2hr for food is unacceptable; seeing waiters have drinks while working and galavanting with the customers is not ok. To have a 630 reservation and not eat until 9 ruined the night. My friends and I were over changed for our drinks; the server (Asian guy) didn't come by as much only made eye contact with him from time to time. The truffle fries were BEYOND salty; salmon portion was very tiny for the price; mashed potatoes were good; steak had a very peculiar taste but I did not like it at all; pasta was super oily and lacked flavor; wings were ok not sure what the powder was on top. The dessert was good but would like more options.i asked to speak with owner and I was told several times he was busy and no manager came over in his place (do they not have one!) . But I saw the owner talking to other guests laughing and having a shot which made me extremely angry because the service I was receiving was lack luster and I wanted it to be rectified. Needless to say I was super disappointed in the service and the wait time.. I fine dine often and they move alot faster than what I've experienced at this restaurant. If this is to be fine dining they need to speed up on food delivery time and host needs to be more attentive to their customers. We are the ones paying to keep this restaurant open so to be mindful of our time would be great. read more

Went here for my cousins birthday party. They were very professional and attentive. We got both appetizers as well as entrees all of which were very tasteful. The food was cooked exactly to our liking as well. I don't drink alcohol but my cousins do and they had nothing but positive things to say about them. Overall a great experience. read more

We had a 7:30 p.m. reservation, and we arrived on time and checked in with the hostess. Yet, two women who came in long after us were seated before us--all because they knew someone. We waited for almost an hour and still weren't seated. This is completely unacceptable.If reservations don't matter, then why even have them? It's beyond frustrating to see people get to cut aheadsimply because of who they know. **That is not how you run a business. This type of unprofessionalism is exactly why I hesitate to support certain businesses that happen to be black owned. I think this just became a new favorite of mine in Oakland. Our food was delicious across the board - we had the mac n cheese, rack of lamb, delmonico, brusell sprouts, and cheesecake for dessert. The service was awesome, especially as someone with food allergies. Our server, Mar, was extremely attentive to food allergy concerns, answering questions, checking with the chef, and double checking to make sure we could eat the cheesecake. 10/10 - highly recommend! read more

The staff is phenomenal! Stefon is simply amazing! Despite the day being booked due to Valentine's Day the staff was a little more attentive to helping us celebrate our ten year wedding anniversary. I we loved the ambiance, mood was perfect. The waiters were very dapper to say the least especially Lamar! The bartender Rohmen did his thang with the drinks! Baby let me tell you Chef Cleaz took it to the next level with them deviled eggs. The lamb chops couldn't be more perfect and my god the delmonico is everything! Highly, highly recommend. Came for a birthday and the experience was stellar from start to finish. We came in tonight looking for a great dining experience as I had heard so many good things about this place. We were seated in the bar area and after 15 minutes had to walk up to the bar to order drinks and apps; since no one came to greet us or take our order. After everything was in we still didn't have a waiter or anyone come to check on us. Our main course and apps came out at the same time and still no one checked in on us. I'm a sweets type girl so I don't like to taste my alcohol. We then got seated. Me and my friends order the flight of wings - 3 different type of wings flavors. The food was worth every penny. I got the crab pasta and it was absolutely delicious. My mom got the rack of lamb and my daughter got the surf Mac n cheese ..I took my mom there last night(she hates Oakland by the way ) for Mothers Day... We were greeted with a smile, sat down and totally taken care of! Our waiter was a handsome guy dressed impeccable and his customer service was as a 10/10. Pierre Pierre is 10/10!!! My Husband and I loved it so much we came back two weeks in a row! I highly recommend this restaurant! You feel welcome from the moment you walk in & the vibe is just right, especially for a date night! Ambiance & Service ~ From the across the street I could see that we were in for a real treat, I saw how everyone associated with the restaurant was dressed and even from across the street I could see that each patron was treated with respect and dignity ~ As we walked up to the front door we were greeted and thanked for choosing to dine at PierrePierre ~ We were seated near the bar where the rest of our party was sitting and enjoying wonderful cocktails ~ The seating area was AMAZING ~ We were promptly seated at our table and immediately our waiter introduced himself and he and other members of the waiter staff also came over and began placing the cloth napkins upon our laps From there we were served ice cold filtered water in beautiful water goblets ~ Our menus were simple yet filled with mouthwatering choices from starters to wine ~ The owner came over to chat with us and wish me a happy birthday he was professional and very friendly and pleasant Food ~ Oh my goodness where do I even start ~ Everything and I mean everything was amazing, the Cesar Salad was fresh and absolutely amazing ~ The appetizers were also amazing and very well presented ~ Our waiter gave us great suggestions for appetizers and his suggestions did not disappoint ~ Our cocktails were amazing (that watermelon drop was exciting to drink) ~ The main courses came out hot and in a very timely manner for our party of seven ~ Everyone had something different so we all got an opportunity to taste each others dishes and everything was amazing and beautifully prepared and presented ~ The kitchen is open...and to watch the chef and his staff was amazing ~ The portions are hearty some of us couldn't finish our dinner our waiter sweetly packaged up our meals and appetizers ~ Then the entire wait staff sang happy birthday to me and sang very well I might add ~ I was given an amazing slice of Biscoff Cheesecake which I shared with everyone at the table Overall ~ My family and I had an AMAZING time and EXPERIENCE there's a live DJ (the music was on point all evening); the staff was attentive and friendly and helpful ~ We will definitely be back! I really do try to support black businesses, but this was probably one of the worst experiences I've had in the bay area. we had a reservation at 8:15. We didn't see seated until 9 and then we didn't get a server or water to our table until almost 945. I even reach out to a manager that was at the front desk and she mentioned that she was going to come take my order but she didn't.. apparently we were supposed to have bread and butter, but they never came. By the time our server put our order in the whole red snapper was sold out, even though we were sitting for over an hour and a half. they only order 15 a day and I guess they were already sold out by 815 or by 945 depending on whenever I order was actually put in. Here is the food review: - The deviled eggs were really good - The seventh was just OK, it came with very small, broken up chip k - The jerk wings was cool nothing super special but cool - The gumbo came out with regular sausage, NOT waygu sausage, and no chicken and oversalted roux - The salmon had a nice crust on it, but lack flavored and salt. - The lobster tail was completely overcooked and dry... It was hard to get it out - The Caesar salad did not come with spears of Romaine, but instead it came with chopped Romain and water down dressing - The "rack of lamb" actually came out as 5 seperate lamb chops that were overdone - The garlic mashed potatoes & brussels sprouts is probably one of the best things on the menu besides the deviled eggs we were some of the last guest and didn't get our last entrée until 1120. Keep in mind we started and got here at 8:15. we got our final check at 11:50. at the end of the night we seen regular guest in the eating, and digging their hands in the food in the back of the house regardless of the restaurant being closed it was still guest in the restaurant eating and that's not a good look. I've heard great things about the snapper, so I might come back to try that and get it TO-GO only! This isn't a bash of business, but it's just being honest and holding them accountable for the prices that they have on the menu does not reflect the food or the service that was received and we were not the only table upset, it was quite a few. I will suggest coming on a Thursday, but I wouldn't come any other day of the week. We hear from multiple other guest that that was the best day but we decided to come on a Friday and I just don't know if they can handle the influx of business.. I hope with times they get better but until then good luck read more

I went back recently. The food was still good. The ambience still good, but the service wasn't so pleasant. This time we didn't have utensils or napkins. They took a while to take our order and bring the food.. she didn't write anything down so she got a couple things wrong, and she came back handing us another tables credit cards, thank God we're not thieves or we would've took their credit cards and left. lol Nobody's perfect but definitely be careful with things like that. I was excited to try this beautiful restaurant because of their reviews. However, I was very much disappointed. We waited patiently, ordering took forever. Then the food took even longer. Food came out 1 at a time. Ordered 3 wings, only got 1, ordered 3 Ceasar salads, only got 1. Deviled eggs said they had crab, no crab. Lamb was burnt. Mac and cheese was soupy. Lobster was rubbery. I hope they fix their problems. I really want to support. But I cannot recommend this restaurant. read more

What a great new addition to the Oakland food scene. The steak was a prime dry aged Delmonico that just melted in my mouth. One of the best steaks I've ever had. The King Salmon with a beurre blanc sauce was excellent. The sides were spectacular, we tried the Mac and cheese, the mashed potatoes and the Caesar salad. But then we found Portal! We're not fussy people, and we loved the more down-to-earth vibe of their patio. Plus, it's got heaters and an extendable cover, which was exactly what we wanted! The previous owner, Kevyn, was great to work with, as was the current owner, Mona. We decided to rent the patio and have Portal provide drink service and dishes, but we knew that we wanted a specific restaurant (which doesn't have its own seating area) to provide the food. Kevyn and Mona were both totally down for that, and completely helped us bring our vision to life. There was space for our 50 guests to sit, for the buffet, plus enough space left over for a small dance floor area. Really perfect for our group. Amber, their bartender and events coordinator, deserves a particular shout-out. She worked with my spouse and me to come up with three custom mocktails that fit our taste preferences and even thought of cute love-themed names for all of them! She really went above and beyond for it, having a mocktail tasting for us and even sourcing a non-alcoholic champagne to use for n/a mimosas and in one of the mocktails. It was a wonderful experience, and Amber was a joy to work with. She the one making the mocktails (and alcoholic drinks for guests who wanted them) during the reception, and we heard constant compliments. last saturday was our 3 year anniversary. We were excited to try this place due to its great review and upscale ambiance. We were VERY dissapointed Upon entering everyone at the bar looked over at us like we were minorities/not welcomed. We were not greeted immediately.. we just stood by the booth Until the supervisor came by with the waitress. They hurried us of to the smallest table right by the very unfriendly bar area. When i asked for us to be seated in the back dining area the waitress began to walk us over to the TWO empty tables in the back. The supervisor/man quickly gave her a cut it signal to his neck and refused to sit us. It was 9 pm and we decoded to leave. the waitress awkwaedly apologized for that mans behavior. he should he fired. Didnt get his name. Short light complected sour looking little man. Our anniversary dinner was non existent and we are never coming back. They hype was not real & it seemed like only LOCALS were welcomed. Unfortunately, the service didn't match the quality of the food. Despite having an 8 pm reservation and arriving 5 minutes early, I was seated late. It then took over 35 minutes to place my order. The food arrived quickly, but no one checked in on me afterward. When I asked to box my leftovers and get the check, it took another 15 minutes. It's disappointing to pay nearly $200 for a meal and receive such subpar service. Businesses need to be prepared for the weekend rush. With only two waiters and one hardworking staff member handling drinks and food, it felt understaffed. I arrived at 7:55 pm and left around 10:45 pm--respecting customers' time is crucial. Visited Pierre Pierre on a Saturday night and it was definitely a vibe! It's a small spot, but the ambiance feels more like a stylish lounge. They had a live DJ spinning good music, which gave the place great energy. It was pretty busy, but the staff didn't miss a beat--super accommodating and attentive from start to finish. We started with the wings flight and the deep-fried seafood deviled eggs--absolutely everything! For my main, I ordered the red snapper. It was so flavorful and perfectly cooked. I shared it and still had enough to take home. One of my friends had the lamb chops and thought they were just okay, but honestly, everything else made up for it. Can't wait to come back and try the oxtail next time. Bonus: there's a parking lot and garage nearby, so parking wasn't an issue. The guy in the front with the black OG hat was a true gentleman who seems to be doing a lot of different things in the restaurant.
