Definitely giving them a bit of a pass given the other options in this area. The waitress was slow and inattentive. My pet peeve is when the restaurant generally serves bread and my table somehow doesn't get it. This happened here. We had to ask for it twice, and when it came out, it tasted homemade and delicious, which indicates to me that it is something they generally offer; I.e. Not something they threw together because I asked for it. When we asked the server for a second loaf, she said that it's only loaf per table and she'd have to charge us for the second loaf...uh, we were a table of five and we had to ask for the first one! When she delivered the second loaf, the server left the empty plate from the first loaf on the table and placed the large steak knife in front of the three-year-old. The manager was very accommodating. He didn't charge us for the extra loaf and offered us complimentary dessert. The food was pretty good. The tuna and seaweed salad was a big portion and the sauce was good. The tuna was fresh, but it could have used a better sear on the outside, though it was served rare as requested. The crab cakes were fresh tasting, with very little filler. The vegetables were heavily buttered, especially the asparagus, but they were well-cooked. We came in here with a large group roughly 15 people, they took our reservations over the phone and accommodated us with great hospitality. Our server Mikaela split our entire group into individual checks and provided excellent service. Our group ordered a variety of dishes ranging from steak to salmon to crab and pasta. The portion sizes were excellent and everyone went away happy with their dishes. The spinach and artichoke dip was a favorite appetizer among the table, so definitely consider that. The dessert options were also excellent, note worthy of those seeking a satisfied palate. The atmosphere was a family friendly casual environment, you can leave your dress shirts at home if you want to. All things considered, this is probably one of the better restaurants in the area, if you are visiting from out of town definitely give it a try. I had to put one star on this because it would not let me post my review with no stars. Our dinner here was absolutely horrific. I had to write a review so no one else would waste their money here. We had salad, spinach and artichoke dip, steak, "loaded" baked potato, and the kids had pasta and chicken tenders. Every single thing was awful. The salad was iceberg lettuce, the pasta had no flavor at all, I could go on but I won't bore you. Absolutely disappointing!! Wish I could give 0 stars. This place is a steakhouse and it is the worst experience with steak I've ever had. For me personally, I like my steak well done with no pink whatsoever. So for my steak to come out half raw was so gross but mistakes can happen so I asked for it to be taken back. My steak came with a side as part of a meal, and I asked for it to be taken back as well because it literally had blood running all over my plate from the steak and they wanted to leave me my sides. After much waiting time the steaks came back out and half my steak was cooked and the other half still had much pink in it but not only that but as I was checking my steak there was A HAIR ON MY PLATE, YUCK!!!! So at this point I was just done and asked for a different side of mashed potatoes since they were offering to get me something else. Not once did a manager ever come over to accommodate us or anything. Just a terrible and honestly disgusting experience. Don't recommend at all, unless you want to be treated like it was your fault your food was wrong and came with a side of hair. Food has definitely deteriorated. Waitress told us our main dishes came with sweet potato casserole and mixed veggies. When our dish came we literally had a teaspoon of mashed sweet potato and 3 small pieces of vegetable. Manager tells us main dishes come with a "garnish" of starch and vegetable. At an upscale restaurant who ever heard of a garnish of a starch and vegetable ? Either be honest and say nothing comes with the main dishes or serve a real side dish. Fish special came with a lemon butter sauce. It actually with a large scoop of just butter on the fish like you'd get on an order of pancakes. The food was ok but not great and the place comes across as cheap and nickel/dimey with their entree garnish and small side portions. I think it's ridiculous to pay $2-$3 for a side and get a tablespoon of potatoes. . . really? The a la carte menu is annoying. My husband and I frequent Pine Lodge and have found it to be one of the most inviting places in Deep Creek Lake! The staff is very friendly and always willing to make our visit pleasurable. The food has always been very good! Several of our favorites are the prime rib and the muscles! Pine Lodge also offers a full bar with outstanding and very knowledgeable bartenders! You can enjoy fine dining in the upstairs dining area or in the lower level bar area. They offer large meals as well as sandwiches and outstanding appetizers. The desserts are amazing, I recommend the apple or peach cobbler if available. The atmosphere is perfect for the Deep Creek Lake area, a warm and cozy log home. read more

A few girlfriends and I (whom I was hosting for a long weekend at my family's lake home) visited this restaurant last week for dinner on Friday evening. My husband and I had been there before and had a decent experience but this one was less than enjoyable. We were greeted by a semi timid waitress who promptly took our drink order. We then ordered 2 appetizers and waited for the bar drinks. We let her know we would like to wait to put the dinner order in so we wouldn't be rushed. There were 5 of us total. Instead of offering to take our order and hold it, she had us hold the menus at the table until we were ready. Okay, whatever, just annoying, nothing major. Our 2 appetizers came in a timely fashion and when we were about half-way through, she offered to take our dinner order. I was pleased to see they had changed the menu since the last time I was there and one side was now offered with most entrees. We sat for a decent amount of time while other tables received appetizers, bread (we were never offered) and their food. Finally our food arrived. Most of us ordered steaks so she asked us to cut into them. I am a die-hard medium rare girl. My New York strip was almost well done. My friend's filet was medium rare, which she ordered medium, but she opted to keep it. The waitress offered to take the steak back and bring out a new one. 9 minutes later a new steak arrived--it was significantly smaller and thinner. The manager presented this and made a joke that she went back and threatened the cooks. I cut in to the disappointing cut of beef and was greeted with a purple color. She said "is that too rare?" I said, "this is literally raw. I ordered medium rare." She again made a joke and said she scared the cooks. At this point, she did say the steak would be removed from my bill. I had eaten a sweet potato for dinner and all of my girlfriends were done with their meals. The manager again returned less than 5 minutes later with the same steak, clearly microwaved.The inside was still purple and literally mushy, almost gelatin like, but the outside was grey. I looked up at her and she smiled at me and raised her eyebrows like she thought I was going to say it was done. I pulled the meat apart and looked at her, poking at the purple mush and said "this isn't rare or even medium rare, this looks like a bad piece of meat." I picked up the plate, handed it to her, and said "I'll just pass on dinner at this point." She offered to bring me something new to eat several times, even offering dessert and saying, verbatim "they can't fuck that up," but at this point I just wanted to leave. We had a 7:30 reservation and it was after 9:00. She offered a gift card for my "next visit." She did not tell me how much is on the gift card and I cannot check online. To find the balance of the gift card, the restaurant's phone number is offered on the card. As a table, we were also never offered drink refills or another round from the bar. Needless to say, we will not be back and I am just glad this experience happened to me specifically and not one of my guests because I would have been totally embarassed. I would not recommend this restaurant to any long time Deep Creek go-er or passerby. As for the gift card, they do have a bar downstairs with hopefully different food that my husband and I will attempt to use there, but we will not return. read more

For the prices I was not pleasantly surprised with my meal. For appetizers we had mushroom caps and calamari. Mushroom caps were very good but the calamari was not very flavorful and the marinara sauce was just bland. They also give you a soy sauce, I recommend that for the calamari instead of the marinara. For my entree I had prime rib and a side crab cake. The prime rib had a lot of fat and was too tough for my liking. I should have sent it back, but I didn't, I finally became tired of eating it. We got burgers which were decent but the cups of crab soup were SO delicious that we went back again two days later and had BOWLS of their crab soup. It had to be the best we'd ever had. My husband and I went there to celebrate on our honeymoon. This was our second time there and we loved it just as much this visit as the last! Our server was Dana and she was absolutely great!!! Made our visit there even better. We tried the crab soup and I have to say being born and raised in B-more our soup is hard to beat but they could be in the running. It was delicious give it a try!!! Great crab soup, it's worth the trip just for that. The calamari was good too. The steak is terrible! We had a NY Strip and the cut was like something you would expect from the discount bin at the local supermarket. It was not seared at all on either side and we think it was baked in the oven. It was spiced from a shaker and we think it was Mrs. Dash or something similar. Last time we had gone there for a steak was 10 years ago and it was excellent. What happened? The steak was cooked correctly but was not a steak house steak. We get a better steak at Ruby Tuesdays or any of the national chains like that. My group of nine had a pretty terrible experience here last weekend. Service took a very long time, after about 30 minutes we had to ask for the waiter to bring bread- they don't offer it automatically. The pricing scheme is ridiculous- everything is a la carte. The waiter upsold us on everything. When I ordered my steak he asked if I wanted it blackened. I was ambivalent but he said it was much better that way. Well the steak had no blackening at all when it arrived, but the bill showed a dollar extra for the blackening. A dollar is nothing- but it shows how this restaurant works. First my wife ordered the crab cakes, they come out black I am assuming because the put it under the broiler to brown them and must have forgotten them and sent it anyway. Promptly sent it back and ordered shrimp scampi. 6 tiny shrimp that I could have gotten at red lobster, and cold mash potatoes not once but twice. Third was I ordered the Alfredo with a side of steak.(4-5 small bite size pieces). Decided to order another side seeing as it was about 2oz of steak. Guess what they charge 12 foe the pasta and 13 for each order of steak. 38 for a bowl of pasta and 4-5 oz of steak. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. Never again will I spend my money there, each time there is a problem, in fact the 2 men at the bar sent back their dishes due to issues. Stop hiring cooks and get yourself an executive chef. The reason I am giving two stars is because the server was really great. A group of 5 stayed in Deep Creek for a long weekend in month of August 2017. We went to Pine Lodge as our "dinner out" because most of the trip we either cooked in or ordered crabs from Trout's House Seafood (fantastic by the way). We all ordered a drink which were OK, nothing to right home about. We ordered apps/salad which everyone was pleased with. The shrimp appitizer was so good we ordered a second one. However, the dinner was not good at all. Do not, I mean, DO NOT order the crab cakes. They were dry and we wondered if they came from a can. The salmon did not arrive as ordered. And the steak had no flavor. We basically ended up sending most of everyone's meal back. I ordered an a la cart lobster tail - cooked to perfection. Unfortunately, it did not compensate for the rest of the meal. Don't waste your time or money on this place for dinner. read more

My wife and I stopped here while staying in the area for our anniversary. We had already had a bad experience in another restaurant, and were very hungry, so not in an especially good mood. The building is oddly situated, so we began at the top (which is NOT the entrance) and had to walk down several flights of steps to reach the hostess. Since my wife does not handle walking steps very well, we did not get to see the presumably classier parts of the restaurant, but ate in the bar area. Through no fault of the restaurant, we were seated next to the LOUD family, who shouted throughout their meal, and made the restaurant less enjoyable than it should have been. In spite of that, the food was excellent. We did have to pay for the bread, a really nice, hearty loaf. My wife ordered prime rib, which came in an amazing fat slab of tender, juicy beef. I had a chicken-pasta-vegetable dish that was simply fabulous. My wife ordered a drink known as the "Swedish fish" which was very tasty (though expensive and rather small) and I tried the local IPA, which was also excellent, though in rather smaller portions than I would have preferred. We had marvelous desserts: I had a cherry cobbler that contained walnuts and was simply the best thing EVER; my wife had a very nice cheesecake (though she envied my cobbler). Our waitress was very nice, though somewhat harried, and even comped us the dessert when she found out that it was our anniversary. All in all, a good meal that was somewhat pricey, but we knew that going in. read more

I was asked whether I wanted the Sam Adams Lager or Octoberfest, I said Lager and got the opposite, three times the wait staff tried to give us someone else's food. I was asked if we wanted bread at the beginning and received it after eating the entrees. The food we ordered was quite pricey for the quality we received and lack of taste we encountered. I had searched for a quality place before visiting the area and found this place had some good reviews. However, maybe it was because we were in the bar that the service was poor, but the food should at least be enjoyable. We were given 2 loaves of brown bread, which was good--but when asked for another loaf, it cost an additional $2. They nickel and dime on everything. The order was mixed up and one person was given a dinner that should have gone to another--unfortunately the person started eating it and the other person had to wait for a new order. One steak came out burnt and smothered in seasoning--it was not eatable--that person had to wait for another meal. But we still had to pay an additional $2 for that bread--come on! The smallest, underdeveloped, back-o-the freezer mushrooms that had been sitting underneath the heat lamp for the eternity we had been awaiting arrived, along with Alfredo pasta that had tree stalk broccoli and cauliflower that the jolly green giant may have been proud of. We were the only patrons at this time (not a good sign) and being cordial to the help had run its course. Being oblivious to the bad service that already had happened, the manager/bartender/server started arguing after the food/service/price was deemed f-ing BS. Instead of adhering to the "customer is always right" mantra, he asked where we were from and said that all of the customers that complain are from that region! Also went on to say that he would have bent over backwards to comp us (whatever) but because we reached our tipping point and swore about the worst service imaginable, nothing was done. Unless you would like your overpriced food/drink served by a balding combatant who has been "doing this for 18 years" and a girl server with hickies, go ahead and disappoint yourself. This place has potential to be great. First thing our servers said when we asked how are you she said "I'm here I mean I'm okay". Funny thing was she wasn't no where to be found a few times. First glass of moscato they brought me had something dirty on the glass so I asked for a new one. We ordered calamari appetizer which was good. My boyfriend ordered the New York strip w mashed potatoes and I ordered the oak barrel steak with lyonnaise potatoes. Both of us ordered our steaks medium with brandy sauce. When we got the steaks mine was basically brown all the way through. His was brown in some spots and pink in others. Also our potatoes were cold especially the mashed. Now I say the place has potential because the flavor of everything was delicious the rubs on the steaks and especially the brandy sauce. The drinks were good too he got a dark and stormy and I got a salted caramel White Russian which was delicious. But for this place to call themselves a steakhouse and not know how to properly cook a steak is pretty bad. So disappointing to have a lovely location with such poor service experience and very average food all for rather fine dining prices....totally (and I mean totally) ala carte. We were with friends who were entertaining a client and his large family and asked twice (once when waitress took our drink order before the client arrived and once while ordering dinners to verify our original request) for a separate check for my husband and myself. Waitress looked at us stupefied when we were annoyed that she arrived at the meal's conclusion with one check for the table. No offer to go back and recalculate and we didn't want to make a fuss in front of our friend and his client. Of course she also forgot to bring the one side that I ordered, a small loaf of bread, which is now part of the totally ala carte menu. Glad I didn't want parsley on the side of that plate. Poor, embarrassing service that left us in an awkward position and could have been remedied so easily.
