This is my husbands choice for brunch, hands down. We've gone to Pine State many times since they opened years back and have always been consistent with their products. Their biscuits and gravy are always a hit. the Reggie deluxe and moneyball are my go to's, doesn't disappoint. I've tried the shrimp & grits which is also yummy. Today I tried the bbq Carolina pull pork biscuit which is exactly what it sounds like. I think I was expecting more given that I was used to the heaviness of the other dishes I've tried in the past. Although the pull pork and the bbq sauce was delicious, it left me hungry. I tried to order the shrimp & grits after I finished my biscuit, but they were out of it! Their desserts as delicious! I've had their pop tarts and I will always order them everytime we eat here. The pop tart filling changes and yesterday it was a fig pop tart. The crust is baked perfectly and the filling was warm and sweet giving me holiday vibes. For a Thursday in between Christmas and new years it was pretty busy but an even flow of customers much of which were from out of town. A number of cars parked outside were from California. I love the style of pine state: order, find a table, self serve water, coffee, condiments, utensils and napkins, and bus your own table. The spot that always has me coming back when I'm in Reno. I absolutely love "The Reggie". This is my third time here and it's always so good. Got to try the blueberry pancakes, The Reggie, & their seasonal pop tart! They had a peach cobbler pop tart and wow was that good! I loved the icing with the brown sugar oats. It was the best sweet treat during my last visit. Food is super filling. Portions are good. I loved both the sausage and mushroom gravy but this last time I tried the mushroom gravy and I think it's won me over. Sorry sausage... the bacon in the Reggie is insane. I love this place. Super cute! I've been wanting to try Pine Street Biscuits for awhile. Finally had the opportunity when I had to drive that way to drop a car for service and was with my daughter who enjoys sausage and biscuits. From the moment we parked and saw the exterior and location we were excited. Large glass windows look out on the street and outdoor tables. Order at the counter. Be served by your number, bus your table when done. We did this right by visiting on a Friday morning vs weekend. We were able to grab a seat but I imagine it could be difficult on the weekend. We avoided that. My Reggie Deluxe was sinful. Buttery biscuit, crispy tender fried chicken, large piece of bacon, perfect fried egg, loaded with melted cheese and shiitake mushroom gravy. Oh yeahhh!! My daughter had the sausage and gravy. She was very pleased. The sausage gravy had a nice kick of spice. The shitake mushroom gravy I selected with my sandwich was so creamy. This would be my preference when we return. We also shared a homemade peach pop tart. It was sweet and filling and a nice addition. Great experience. I'll be back. turned out to be a hitter a Reno must stop for us. Their biscuits are pretty damn good with their different butters and extensive menu. Here is a brisket biscuit. Honestly would pass next time. Brisket was dry AF all lean meet decently smoked. With the grilled onions and Carolina sauce was doable. Had the Reggie before like that route better for next time and will try another different sando. Just the biscuit alone with jam or apple butter and a drink will do you good. Behind is the Hash! Bomb. Good to share with 3-4 ppl for sure. Crispy cheesy tender with some good shrooms. And back right. Probably my fav pancakes ever. Blue berry corn meal pancake. Was so good. This place is in the downtown area and maybe not the best area but not bad. It has some nice seating outside and a decent size inside as well. They may have a more simple menu but it works and it's good. We for the deluxe Reggie and it was really good bacon cheese fried egg fried chicken in a biscuit with gravy you can't go wrong. I saw their Oregon location on DDD and wished I lived in Oregon, thankfully for us they have a location in Reno so we stopped in for breakfast and it didn't disappoint!! We ordered the biscuits and mushroom gravy and another biscuit with the homemade strawberry jam and I had to try the pimento cheese (which was excellent!!). We also ordered one of their homemade pop tarts to go. The Elvis, peanut butter, banana and chocolate! Wow, who knew the silly childhood pastry's could be so good!! All the food was tasty! Service was fast and everyone was friendly. We arrived right as they opened so it was quiet with a couple customers trickling in. Came here for breakfast on a Sunday morning! The line wasn't too long but shortly after waiting, the line behind us was out the door so I was under the impression that this place has got to be amazing! We decided to order some classic biscuits and gravy. The cashier I will say had an attitude. She told us it'd be 45 minute wait and asked us if we still wanted to eat there and she seemed annoyed that we said yes. After she took our order, my husband wanted runny egg added to his but she asked if he could have them scrambled because they prefer to not make runny eggs?! My husband felt pressured to say that was fine, but it wasn't what he wanted... we were able to get a sit inside even though it was so busy (they have outdoor seating as well) and amazingly we got our meal about 10 minutes later. The gravy was well seasoned, some of the best I've had in Reno and the biscuits were very fluffy and not dry at all. We were very satisfied. After your meal, you clean up after yourself and put your dishes away on one of their carts. The other staff members were very nice and appreciative. We stopped here coming back from Carson City, and now all I want is to take a nap! First, you get a table number, then you order at the counter and then you find a place to sit....it works, and the line moves fairly fast, so don't let a line deter you from eating here. The biscuits are huge! We had the Reggie Deluxe and the Double Down and coffee. The Reggie Deluxe is huge, I might not have to eat for a week. The biscuit is really the star here. But that chicken breast is a close second! The sausage gravy pulls it allll together! The double down...biscuit with gravy and egg smothered in sausage gravy disappeared off the plate without a complaint. Served warm and soft and the glaze is flavorful and not just cloyingly sweet. FYI they were sold out by 11am on one of the weekdays we went. The Reggie - ordered this since it's the most popular. It's a lot- good but a bit overwhelming with everything in it. I really liked the gravy and added their whampa sauce (habanero sauce). McIsley - also good, pickles were critical in making it a balanced sandwich. Felt more like a fried chicken sandwich than a biscuit sandwich. Moneyball - delicious (loved their gravy!). We had noticed everyone grabbing tables before ordering very annoying and of course signs everywhere stating no saving tables and to order first and you have to bus your own table as well. Luckily we got a table, the tables were dirty and need to be wiped down. No one around to ask so we made do with what we had to clean. They yelled out my name and food was brought to our table. Still have to get your own drinks and utensils. Service sucks here and I personally did not enjoy my sandwich since I was so turned off by the entire atmosphere. I had the Chatfield and the savory/sweet combo blessed my soul!! I was worried my sandwich wouldn't be saucy enough for me like a like it, but within the first two bites the sweet apple butter came through and it was so yummy! The chicken was so juicy, not a dry bite! We had such a kind and attentive server, Dontay (sorry if I misspelled their name). He welcomed us with a smile, checked on us multiple times, and was quick to meet our requests. I gave service a 4/5 just because it felt a little understaffed and the wait time was slightly longer than expected. I will say though, my friend and I arrived, ordered, ate and left a few minutes after our 60-minute lunch hours. This place is good for small parties (4-7 people), quick lunch dates with coworkers or your even your boo thang, the price point isn't outrageous and you get a great quality of food. The vibe was a standard small food joint, nothing bad but also nothing unique. I found some street parking, but I know I got lucky because downtown parking can be a headache. The sauce and the egg were such a great addition to the biscuit sandwich! The over-easy egg was cooked perfectly and the runny egg was absorbed by the biscuit. The gravy was so flavorful. Def recommend this one! - Brisket biscuit- smoked brisket, caramelized onions and house made bbq sauce. Lots of brisket but the downside was that many pieces were burnt. The food was pretty good. The reason for the 4 stars is the fact that we were insistently asked to move to another table because of other parties,even though we did express that we did not want to move nor sit on a table located in the middle of the restaurant due to its busy hour and lots of people moving around. Other than that, the food was very good. The mushroom gravy with some eggs on top was delicious. The cinammon bun was also very tasty with a touch of bourbon. The hot chocolate covered with marshmallows was also pretty awesome for a cold day. We tried the pancakes and the biscuit beignets (deep fried dough), but it didn't nownimpress us much. You order first and you pay first... ok, I've been in places like this before. Hold on, when I'm paying first, they're already asking for a tip? Ok, sure. I asked for a coffee, the lady said "Here's a cup, coffee is right behind you." Oh, I have to pour my own? What's this sign? I have to bus my own table and make sure I'm not holding anyone up from sitting? A young kid came out, dropped off the food which was, unfortunately, a little tiny in portions. The people we came with talk such high levels about this place, and I should've known that whatever trend is happening for them, is the Golden Way at that specific moment. We bussed our table and scooted out of there. Me then realizing I tipped the Pine Nuts location 20% for me doing all the work of the waiter. "Tip your waiter" is the phrase, but did I receive 20% discount? Nope. So they technically got 40% off of me....20% for the waiter service I ended up doing and 20% for the tip that went to Pine Nuts which I should have received instead of the invisible waiter who never serviced us because we did all the work of the waiter. Pine State Biscuits has 5 locations, of which 4 are in Portland and the newest one here. Gayle and I walked over from the Renaissance Hotel a few days ago for breakfast, and appreciated the relative lack of lines that I'd previously witnessed in Portland. Interestingly enough, Reno's location is on the Pine Street side of the interchange with Center. There's really not a breakfast menu per se, but once you find the "build your own biscuit" section on the back side, ordering was easy. Gayle and I both ordered (at the counter) sausage, egg, and cheese with our biscuit and both of us thoroughly enjoyed it, right down to the last crumb. Our coffee was excellent as well, which definitely added to our dining (and table bussing) experience on this cold January morning. The next time we come in, I'll go for the Reggie Deluxe, but maybe for lunch as fried chicken isn't my thing for breakfast. I loved this place in Portland. Was so excited to see they have a location in Reno! So random! We got there early on a Sunday around 10am and there was no line. The line was out the door when we left though! Order at the register and seat yourself. Be courteous about tables - it's their rule. No saving tables, buss your own tables, and don't over stay! There is limited seating. Food took about 20 min to come out. Everything was delicious! Hash ups are a must order! So crispy! I love their biscuits and gravy. Sausage patty was really good too. I came here at 10am on a late summer Sunday for brunch with 4 other gals. The line took about 25 minutes to get to the register. It is a small place so moving around was not an easy task. Our orders came out almost as soon as we sat down. I would not give much praise for presentation of the food. My friend ordered the same sandwich as I did, and hers looked sloppily assembled. I got endless coffee but making my way back to the coffee station for a refill was a feat in itself. The coffee/utensil area was dirty and uninviting. It was difficult to enjoy my time with other guests standing nearby waiting in line or for a table. The whole experience at PSB didn't have a relaxed vibe to it and that is what I look for in a breakfast/brunch place. read more
