Piner Cafe is a Santa Rosa gem. The atmosphere is bright, welcoming and has the charm of an old world diner with very friendly, efficient service. It has a large menu of standard American breakfast/lunch fare. The food is not elevated, fancy, or overpriced, it's just hearty portions of good, solid food made to order. I love that they offer a delicious garden burger with side salad among a good selection of bountiful salads as a healthy option to their meaty, more rich items. The menu has something for everyone. There is always a lot of local regulars and the staff greet them like family. Service was over the top. Had grilled cheese with Ortega chili. Very good. I did want soup but was told only clam chowder but on the menu it says Friday only. I look at the waiters n said so it didn't sell out. They nodded. That put up a red flag but ordered anyway. I had a salad with blue cheese dressing with my sandwich. The carrots on the salad were so old I would of tossed them out and the artichoke slices were dry. The worst part was I opened the blue cheese dressing in the prepared cups and it was so old it had a dried film on the top of it. I ate my sandwich and at the end decided to let them know. Normally I wait till after we had paid to complain. They did take my meal off and Apologized. It's not the waitstaff fault. We have been here. Few times but something is different. Just be aware of how old food might bd on your next meal. Times are hard. We still left a 20% tip. read more

I had the Chili Relleno Casserole and it was so delicious along with the hash browns, which were prepared perfectly! Ice tea, which I was able to do a to go cup upon our departure. My husband had the ham and eggs breakfast, which was so tender and delicious and hash browns. No disappointment here! Service was amazing and we didn't have to look for refills, she came and checked on us continuously. We would recommend the Piner Cafe to our out of town friends and family! If i could give it no stars I would. we went there a few days ago and the place was pretty busy. seemed like a good sign... that is where it ended. the waitress handed us the menus. you know the kind...the ones that are plastic that you slide a paper menu into? well they, the paper portion was moldy. when I say moldy, I mean mold spores that look like snowflakes, but are really mold GROWING inside the menus. You can tell, from the waitress knowing customers by name to Santa Rosa PD having breakfast, that this is a true local place. It's also a true diner. Open early, hot coffee, and a great breakfast selection. Chicken fried steak was great. Portions are big enough to hold you out through the day. If those portions are "small" to you, you're either lit or fat as hell. Prices are very reasonable. Def a hidden gem (at least for breakfast) and will return if I am in the area. read more

The best and gold standard in home cooked American food. This place is my favorite restaurant of all time. I have been to fancy restaurants all around the world with Michelin stars and $$$ dollar price tags - And Piner beats them all. The friendly fast service is unmatched. And the food is literally to die for. I often have dreams about eating here. What's good on the menu you ask? The answer everything. Perfectly fluffy omelettes egg white or full eggs, crispy delicious bacon, huge slabs of French toast and giant giant pancakes. More of a lunch person? Every single sandwich is amazing and stuffed to the brim. Their burgers are famous and require at least 10 napkins. I could go on and on and on. This is my go to breakfast spot. It's near my house, has good portion sizes, and is always good quality but nothing on the menu is particularly inspired. It's all pretty standard breakfast fare. Bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, pancakes... Done well, but available at most breakfast spots. I recommend getting the chicken fried steak. read more

We drove by a couple of other breakfast spots, that had lines out the door and clusters of people waiting for tables. I was hungry and not in the mood to wait a half hour. Piner was on our way to the Schulz museum and looked promising. We had to sit at the counter but that meant immediate service, so we pulled up a barstool and turned our coffee cups over. They still add up the check totals on a calculator, and it's located right next to the bar. I chose the stool right next to it, so I had to get used to the click clacking of buttons throughout my meal. Multiple servers and hostesses checked on us and kept our coffee cups fresh and full. I don't normally eat bacon but we had broken down camp that morning . After being surrounded by the smell of pig fat all morning, I needed some. I was conflicted though, after drinking around the campfire all night, I wanted huevos rancheros. So, I ordered both and asked the waitress not to judge. She laughed and said, "Oh no, you go for it. I love it!" The huevos rancheros was a 4 out of a 5. Similar to something I can make at home. Two plain corn tortillas, covered with black beans, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and an egg. I asked for the egg over easy and they cooked it perfectly. My side of bacon consisted of 4 long pieces, thinner vs thicker cut. Two were still a little chewy. The decor is hodgepodge; metal lizards, racing photos, and ceramic masquerade style masks are all over the place. I would definitely come back. Fun little place for a delicious, hearty breakfast. The service was friendly, efficient and the food arrived quick! It's a well known place for good eats, as the parking lot was full on a weekday at 9:45. Portions are huge, and their orange juice is fresh. Biscuits and gravy is on point, and I totally sounded like Darth Vader as I gobbled it down. Lots of heavy breathing. Coffee was great, I suspect it to be Farmers Brothers (which happens to be my favorite). I like my coffee like I like my men, strong and dark. Cute place to go for breakfast! (I haven't tried their lunch food yet.) Pros: -Good prices. -Cute, homey feel. For example mis-matching mugs, walls covered with random stuff, etc. -Even though there is usually a wait when we go, we get in pretty quickly. -Servers are always nice and attentive and quick. -Food comes out quickly. -Big portions. -Really well-made food. -Nice outdoor seating. -They serve breakfast I think until they close at 2. So for someone who sleeps in on the weekends (me!) that's great. Cons: -Not as many different breakfast options as some other places. Pretty straightforward food. No extra frills. -Kind of cramped inside. -Small parking lot. Always hard to find parking nearby. -Basically none of the specials are vegetarian. -Specials are hand-written on a sheet of printer paper. We were super bummed by our experience at the Piner Cafe. The wait staff was friendly but the food wasn't great. Neither my husband or I liked our meal very much and the food seemed like cheap diner food. Even my husband's french fries looked and tasted like they were right out of a frozen bag of fries. This place is for some reason... Fairly popular for the North side of Santa Rosa. All I can say is, "I don't have a clue as to why". Place is dingy, tables kinda have that old, overly redone finish feel to them, the food is "status quo". Got the crab eggs Benedict, chorizo and eggs, and chili omelette. None of the meals were worth $13 to $16, and the fact that the food literally came out (with a 3/4 full restaurant) within less than 10 minutes after ordering was a little unsettling for me. Like... Who cooks 3 meals that fast???? The normal eggs Benedict should come standard with ham, but that was "extra" on the menu. (What's an eggs Benedict without the Ham??) Nice service and nice food. My boyfriend ordered the double patty burger. He is a burger lover and swore that that burger was the best he ate during the time we spent in America. I ordered the grilled marinated salmon, with a complementary salad as a starter, warm mixed vegetables and potato wedges. So this place is a pretty decent little diner. Overall, I enjoyed it, though based on the Yelp ratings, was expecting to be wowed and left just a little disappointed. That doesn't mean I won't come back, as, like I said, it's not a bad diner. Stopped in here for breakfast with my partner. Service was friendly and we were seated right away. The interior is cute and kitschy, with funny signs up around the diner, and it's pretty spacious. We were given a regular menu and what I believe was a specials menu. Unfortunately, the specials menu had all been handwritten and then photocopied, so it was confusing and hard to read. I skimmed it but when I'm looking for breakfast, it's too much of an effort to read something messy. So I went with the hash off the regular menu, and my partner got the sausage and eggs. Both were totally fine. The hash was good but not outstanding. Eggs were cooked well. I think my favorite thing was the GIANT sausage patty my partner got. Plus it was tasty and kind of herbaceous? Anyway, this place has a couple drawbacks, but I might stop in again because it's a totally okay breakfast place. read more

I came here for the first time on Saturday after driving past this diner for several years. My husband told me that this place has amazing reviews and I was excited as I sat down to order. The first thing I had was coffee, which was not good but I kept an open mind. Next thing that came out was the biscuits and gravy. Worst I've ever had and last was the rest of our food. I had burrito which was decent but nothing exciting. The food was all around not good.
