This is the OG Pipo's, and the restaurant that would later spawn a rash of Pipo's, Pipo's JR., Pepo's and other eateries with two P's separated by the vowel of your liking. I've been eating here since the late 90's, and was probably a regular at one point since I worked down the street and ordering lunch here was extremely convenient. I might have even thought their Cuban sammich was the best in town at one point as well. But we get older and wiser, don't we? =) My problem with this place is reverse discrimination (perceived). I've literally been in line where the woman behind the counter was friendly as can be to the Hispanic gentleman in front of me, and then cold as a Canada night to me. It happened more than once, let's just say. Nevertheless, and not one to be kept away from good food by a little racial tension, I returned for many years for the spoils. Great place for a quick lunch with co-workers. The serving is huge. I mean huge!! I posted a pic. I would suggest sharing this meal. I got the roast pork with black beans and rice. The rice and beans were perfectly seasoned. Tasted very authentic. I have to admit I was but disappointed with the roast pork. It was seasoned well but was a little dry. I wanted a cuban sandwich for lunch and stopped in here as it somewhat close to my house and I was shocked to realize how big it was inside compared to how small it is on the outside. Its cafeteria style but I ordered a cuban to go. The price menu was sloppy. Tough to read, scratched out items here and there and price changes everywhere. When I told the lady what I wanted she didn't seam to understand me nor could I understand her. I asked for no mayo and all she gave me was mayo. I then asked her for only mustard and she gave me mustard. She pulled the sandwich out of a refrigerator, put some mustard on it, and put it on the press. Kind of disappointing for an authentic place like this to have pre made sandwich sitting in a refrigerator for who knows how long The sandwich wasn't very warm despite it sitting on the press for quite some time. I just moved to the area and was so excited to find this little gem. It doesn't look like much from the outside (or the inside for that matter), but don't be fooled. The food here is delicious! Not only that, it is very reasonably priced and portions are enough where the average person can easily get two meals out of one. The daily special comes out to $7.44 after tax and includes a meat, two sides, Cuban bread, and iced tea (sweetened and unsweetened). How can you beat that? I ordered the shredded pork with sweet plantains and rice and beans. My friend had the Bourbon chicken with yellow rice and mashed potatoes. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals, although the mashed potatoes weren't the best; however, she acknowledged it was her own fault for ordering American mashed potatoes at a Cuban restaurant. I've been a loyal customer to PIPO restaurant's. But after today after the SHIT service that I received I WILL NEVER COME BACK AND I WILL ALSO TELL MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY. I went to their drive-thru and I order a meal which comes with meat rice beans and then I also order a side of yuca. When I got back home I was missing the rice. I called and spoke to a young lady she said to come back and they will give me the rice. When I got to the window and asked for my rice she stated that my meal does not come with rice that rice would cost extra. To be honest that's BULL SHIT I've ordered the same thing a few other times and it comes with it. So she charged me $3 for a cup of rice. It is unbelievablebe. Pipo's is still our go to restaurant when we want great Cuban food. I still get the same thing which is the best roast pork, yellow rice, and back beans. My husband has tried the meat dishes and said they also were really good. It is family owned, everything is made fresh that day. It is served cafeteria style, the servers are always friendly and the prices are very reasonable.
