Waitress warned us that they had had no fresh Halibut, only frozen. Took a chance and Halibut poor tasting and poor presentation.) Prices are somewhat high and typical these days for Beef. After searching for decent restaurants in the area we decIded to go to Pirate's Cove regardless of the mixed reviews. We kept an open mind with little to no expectations which is what you must do with a restaurant such as this. Visiting this area in the wintertime, there is a lot less traffic which means we were able to come in and get a table easily. First walking in, you are greeted by an ambience that is appropriate for a town next to the water. Furniture made of wood and color tones reminiscent of nautical themes help create the atmosphere. Other reviews noted a 'dive bar' vibe, but that's all up to interpretation. The booths are quite large for a two person party but perfect for bigger groups. Our server was prompt and kind. After ordering, we enjoyed some of their house wheat bread which came out warm/fluffy. I had the Caesar salad with chicken fettuccine Alfredo, the chicken being breaded with parmesan, delicious! Some have said their food tasted bland, which for my experience was not the case. The quality of how the food was cooked is what made the whole experience come together. PSA: I do not recommend this place to anyone looking to go to dinner on a tight budget, the dinner menu is by far more expensive than the breakfast and lunch menus. For the price of our meals, the portions were just right. 5 stars for providing an experience that met all the criteria of a cozy, convenient, and straightforward establishment. Awful choice in a restaurant if you know anything about restaurant operation. The service was alright, we only ever saw 1 staff member, but we did stop in at 2:00 on a Thursday. We were there October 10th our 60th anniversary, was never so disappointed in our lives, we have been there many times in the past and everything was always great. This time, NOT at all. The food was mediocre at best, my wife ordered the prawns and baked potato with the salad. It all was really nasty, the salad was not fresh and very soggy the prawns were so overcooked they were dry and hard the baked potato was obviously left over from the day before and reheated. I had the NY strip med rare and baked potato with the clam chowder. The chowder was broke meaning it was thin and watery no taste and maybe five pieces of clam in it. The steak was overcooked and tough my baked potato was also a left over and reheated . You would think charging $40 dollars for a steak they would serve something a little more appropriate than a Walmart special. The server was apparently in a hurry to clear us out as she hurried our service so much it was uncomfortable. The only thing positive about the restaurant is the view , it used to be vey elegant there but has degraded badly . I seriously do not recommend going there anymore. read more

Great location with a beautiful view of the harbor. Come for drinks, but go somewhere else for dinner. The blackened salmon was over seasoned and mushy, the marinara sauce was cold and bitter. When I asked to trade it for something else (after one bite), the waitress told me she would have to charge me for both entrees. Okay I guess. Also was told could not have Alfredo sauce on kids pasta, even if we were willing to pay an up charge. "The kitchen will only do marinara on kids plates."Oh, and both bathrooms were out of paper towels all night, even though I told the waitress. Such slow service too. Warm soft mini loaf of bread was nice. I always get chowder everywhere I go at the coast, theirs was was pretty standard, creamy, not too thick, but not loaded with much clams. But like everywhere now the amount of actual clams you get in the chowder is disappointing. I would give it a 7 or of 10. Staff is friendly and our server McKenzie was very nice and accommodating. Seemed like a slow Friday night, so there was no waiting. This place is probably busier in the summer, and the daytime would have a great view right over the bay. Big booths that seat 6-8 people. We went on Valentine's Day, as my coworker and I were in town for work. We expected the restaurant to be busy so we weren't surprised by the hour wait they told us to anticipate. I had my heart set on crab legs. You can't see into the restaurant when in the waiting area, but it seemed to go very slow. After over two hours we were finally seated. Imagine our surprise when the restaurant was EMPTY. Totally bare. My guess is that they only had one waitress so only were seating a few tables at a time. It was frustrating to say the least but even more frustrated to hear they were completely out of crab legs. I've never heard of a seafood restaurant on the ocean running out of crab legs. I wish I could say the food made up for it. It wasn't terrible but not great. We ordered drinks also and my coworker got an old fashioned that was in a shot glass. We hadn't been here in ages. My in-laws would take us here for Sunday brunch. You can't beat this view of the bay, and the fishing boats. On this visit, we stopped for a late lunch. We were seated in one of the deep booths by the window. Beautiful! My sister was craving clam chowder, and was able to satisfy her cravings with a big bread bowl full! I had fish and chips, which were very tasty. The restaurant is showing its age a bit, and the service was a bit slow, but overall still one of our favorite restaurants in the area. read more

Every other table was closed, the waitress, Britt, was terrific in mask and gloves. Individual paper menus. Super clean. We have really missed being able to eat indoors in restaurants, but we felt okay with this meal. The seafood was tasty and large portion sizes. We split a entree and Britt brought separately plated salads and entree with no extra charge. It was so nice to sit in a lovely location and have hot, fresh food which we thoroughly enjoyed. We came in looking for a nice surf and turf meal. Prices are up there ($40 for a steak) but would gladly pay for a great meal. We ordered drinks and appetizers. The martinis were good but very small. The oysters on the half shell were good but I didn't know oysters came that small. It's never great to see something that small when you're expecting some heft. Then we ordered our food and waited and waited. We eventually asked for bread, which might have been the best part of the meal. When our salads came, they were fine but with huge pieces of mixed greens mixed in with plenty of slimy pieces. My salad plate was lined with bad salad pieces. Next was clam chowder. Our waitress told us they just ran out of clam chowder and were making more. We rolled the dice and I wish we hadn't. It was oddly sweet but not much flavor otherwise. It was thin, without much going for it in any respect. When the person (not our waitress) removed my full bowl, I told her it was sweet. She said that couldn't be. They made it every two days and couldn't possibly be bad. I said it hadn't gone bad. It just tasted sweet. I was trying to be helpful. It wasn't taken that way and we heard her yelling to the cook "she says it tasted sweet!". It went downhill from there. While our waitress acted perturbed before that, she was absent afterward. She unceremoniously dropped off hot plates of steaks and seafood and pasta. She didn't remember who ordered what and simply dropped them off for us to redistribute. I ordered my NY strip medium rare. We asked specifically how the cook would interpret steak temps and were told he's spot on with temps. Again, took a risk and ordered medium rare. What I got was a medium, verging on well done, steak. The mashed potatoes were quite good! The salmon was DRY. We asked for A1 sauce to try to choke down our steaks. I still left about 3/4 of my overbooked steak on the plate. At one point, someone came to take our salt and pepper grinders off its table... in the middle of service! They took our salt and pepper to another table. My friend was going to order another martini and no one ever came to check on us, so she gave up and we went out to a bar afterward to get some decent sized drinks and maybe some decent food. If you like fruit, the cantaloupe and orange slice garnishes might have been the best thing on that main plate. read more

The front lobby is an open space with some seating around the walls, but doesn't feel very welcoming. The hostess comes and goes but actually does a good job of managing the crowd and estimating wait times. We waited almost an hour. Thanks to COVID restrictions the restaurant is using only half the tables. Once seated we had excellent service from Amber. She was prompt and friendly. My husband splurged and got the bouillabaisse which he kindly shared with our 12-yo seafood loving son. Between the two of them it was completely wiped clean, but they were stuffed at the end. Generous amounts of King crab, snow crab, Dungeness crab, oysters, clams and mussels in a delicious bouillabaisse with white rice and peppers. Very authentic taste and excellent quality. I had Parmesan crusted halibut over house-style fettuccine. It was delicious, but the sauce was a little sweeter than I would like. Our youngest had the clam chowder that was great too. The salads were good and fresh. Not giant, but a reasonable size with homemade dressing. The bleu cheese dressing had large chunks of bleu cheese and the Caesar dressing had plenty of garlic. While the guys were polishing off their mountain of shellfish I sampled the white chocolate Marionberry cheesecake. It was good. Was starving and stumbled upon this gem driving up the coast. We were sat in a comfy booth right above the water. The view was beautiful. The service was prompt and friendly. The clam chowder was delicious. We ordered the halibut and chips, as well as the shrimp and chips. The chips (fries) were homemade thin and crispy - to die for. Between the halibut and shrimp - the shrimp was our favorite. They were plump and perfectly breaded and dried. The cocktail sauce also had a nice little kick. Met a customer here for breakfast on a beautiful & sunny Friday morning. The breathless view of the lower Tillamook bay in Garibaldi was enhanced by watching all of the fishing boats on the move to their favorite spot. The coffee was strong & flavorful & served in a personal thermo pot. When I arrived at 8:00 AM, I was the only customer and service was friendly and attentive. An hour later the lone server was still friendly, but extremely busy with many tables occupied with hungry patrons. I ordered the seafood omelet, no potatoes and no toast. The serving was large, flavorful and full of fresh crab, bay shrimp and Tillamook cheddar cheese. Unfortunately the thick slice of cheddar cheese was still cool right out of the refrigerator & not melted inside the tasty 3 egg serving. It could have been presented better with proper tenting or possibly served with shredded cheddar instead. My customer ordered the same omelet presented with potatoes and a single slice of toast and left much of his omelett on the plate without saying a word. Our bill with gratuity was $40. Worth the price if the food had been served hot enough to melt the cheese. To add insult to injury, they don't take my preferred plastic, American Express. 2.5 star experience. Normally the food here is fresh and delicious. We've come here with family, friends and have always recommended it to tourists, however today hubby and I stopped in for lunch and were terribly disappointed. The chowder was very runny barely any clams, and tiny frozen potatoes added. The fish pieces resembled deep fried fish sticks with a very small greasy pile of limp fries. I'm not sure what has happened to this place but the gorgeous view doesn't make up for very bad overpriced food. Hoping they can get back the quality they used to have. read more

The Clam Chowder was starchy and had no clam flavor, it tasted like potato soup with flour. The oysters were greasy and overcooked. The server was not pleasant at all and I would not be willing to come back. I can't believe this restaurant isn't always packed. Oh! I know!!! The hours can sometimes be unpredictable. But when they are open it is well worth stopping by. The chef really knows what he's doing with a fillet of salmon. It's always perfectly cooked. Melt in your mouth. And everything else is delicious too. Prices are reasonable and servers are always friendly and helpful. And of course the view of the Bay is amazing. Whenever we are at the coast, Pirates Cove is top on our list. If this restaurant was in Portland you'd always be on a wait list to get in. Just be sure you call first to make sure they are open. read more

After considering numerous places to eat today while at the coast, with the only criteria being that it to be seafood and a restaurant we'd never previously visited, we made a spontaneous stop at Pirate's Cove. The restaurant sits on the bay at Gaibaldi, and all seats have a great view. Except for being on the warm side for me, we found it to be comfortable and not overly loud. The menu is a tad spendy but that didn't stop us - it was getting late and we were hungry. First up was our greeter who considerately pulled the bench away from the table for me without being prompted. We were then addressed by our waitress, Ann Mari. She was friendly, cheery, personable, and thankfully, not shy about sharing her opinions as to the food selections. She steered me to some of the best oyster stew I've had in recent memory, and I ordered a shrimp louie as my entree. It was delicious. My wife started with clam chowder that was chock-full with potatoes and clams in a creamy sauce, followed by sauteed scallops and buttermilk mashed potatoes that were perfection. Too full for desert, she opted for a slice of carrot cake for the road. Only a little bit made it home. There was a line of diners waiting to get seated as we left. My boyfriend and I are visiting for the first time this weekend and had an absolute yewonderful meal and experience at Pirates Cove! We got the crab platter and salmon dish and both were absolutely delicious. I honestly don't know where the negative reviews are coming from, id assume over entitled vacationers. My advice would be to ignore them as we did! Patty was absolutely wonderful and we will 100% return when we come back to town!! UPDATE: We had to dock 2 stars, considered dropping more, as my boyfriend was over charged by $110 for our meal. When we discovered this, the restaurant was extremely slow in responding to us about refunding us the stolen money from our account. We're recent college grads, so we notice when a week of groceries goes missing. At one point my boyfriend was told he would be called back regarding the issue, which he never was. He finally resulted to calling his bank to report the charge as fraudulent. He called TWO AND A HALF WEEKS LATER, to be told that the restaurant is mailing a check now. The manager, Rick I believe, was reportedly unapologetic about the overcharge. I'm just speechless. If I were to find out that my business accidentally stole from a customer, I would try to fix the problem immediately. Other than this fiasco, we did have great food and service from Patti. When you think of Pirates cove to me I picture a themed dive bar. We passed by last night and the parking lot was empty, yet we were still intrigued... We checked out a online menu and with a recommendation from our dear friend (that is a local) we decided to have dinner here tonight and we are so glad we did!!! I had one of their house cocktails, the lemon drop and my honey had a beer. Both on par as we toast to a relaxing evening on the coast. Unfortunately the sun had already set, but I would've loved to see the view, as we were seated right up against the window to where a pretty breathtaking view is probably awaiting the dawn. The booth was comfortable. The serving was timely and helpful. We started off our meal with fresh bread. I had the clam chowder and he had the Caesar salad. Both were fabulous We ordered our entrees: I had the steak and lobster and he had the chicken fettuccine Alfredo. Both dishes were delicious. The steak was tender and cooked to perfection. Our server offered me steak sauce, but it wasn't needed at all. The lobster was perfectly sweet and also tender. I had garlic mashed potatoes and it was the perfect amount of food.
