I work across the street and love this place. I pretty much get an egg white Denver omelet. But I have eaten salads and some other things and I really enjoy this place. I can call in my order, run to the bathroom and run across the street in five minutes and my food is done. I've gone once or twice for lunch and ate inside the building, service is fast and friendly. It's a typical greek dinner type place with food but its convenient in the loop. Coffee is also pretty good. I enjoyed the soup the one time I got it. Burger wasn't anything special but still decent. It's in the old Pittsfield Building, which is pretty darn dilapidated looking on the inside. The inside of the cafe actually feels like an old-school diner, so that was cool. I got the corned beef hash, and it's a TON. I came with my girlfriend, and she ordered a pastrami has, and she couldn't even finish half of it. It's a lot of food, folks. I loved mine, but it probably comes with a tad too much cheese. The corned beef is really special though. Mmmmmmm... The food is definitely not the fanciest, but it's prepared well. Don't expect any truffle oil or goat cheese or whatever -- this is a hearty, classic All-American diner experience. Honestly, the staples here are better than those from Wildberry. Stopped in two weekends ago while visiting Chicago and was pretty impressed! My travel companion and I split the Greek omelet and were pleasantly surprised with how much quality food was included for the price. The gyro meat was tasty and the feta was not overpowering. If I had one comment, it would be that I wish the waitress had informed us that there was an uncharge for the raisin toast. It was totally worth it, but I like to know ahead of time. We also ordered the Bloody Mary, which cost more than our meal and with good reason! The drink itself was basically a meal, as it came with a carrot, celery, meat, and cheese all piled on top. Order it extra spicy! Finally, as many people have mentioned, the building is neat enough that it's worth visiting even if you don't end up enjoying the food. Tucked away in the Pittsfield Building, this busy little diner/cafe (diner feel inside, cafe feel out in the atrium) does a busy breakfast, but with much shorter waits than some of the nearby competition. Fantastic coffee. Lots of choices. Ate here two days in a row on a short visit to Chicago and it is now going to be my go-to place when Im in the area. Beautiful old building with lots of character, and it looks like this place has been here a while. Service was a little slow first morning, but they were slammed. Tried Pitsfield for the first time today! I love the location, kind of a drab old building and when you turn the corner, Pitsfield Cafe! First things first, the people were extremely nice. I was seated right away at the counter, since I was dining alone. It was me and a handful of old guys. The kind you wish you could listen to tell you a story about the old days... Came here for brunch our first day in Chicago. Service was great. The food was ok. The utensils... not so great. He had the Chicken Parmesan which he was satisfied with. I was craving steak and eggs so I had the rib eye steak breakfast. My steak tasted and felt like it was cooked well done plus, if there is such a thing, instead of the medium rare I had asked for. My steak knife couldn't even cut through the meat. I asked for another steak knife and even the second one couldn't really cut through the meat. Although we weren't really happen with our meal, I'll still give then 3 stars for their customer service. Great, friendly service. But, its the type of place where the pancake syrup comes in single serving packets, which is fine for some restaurants, but the prices would have to justify that. I wouldn't expect real maple syrup from a Deluxe Breakfast Platter from McD's, for example. But it's not just about the syrup. Overall, seems overpriced for what you get. Sausage links (breakfast) tasted generic. As did everything else really. Just generic. So prices should've been generic too, but they weren't. GREAT place for a quick, CHEAP breakfast right near Millenium Park! Follow the signs for the Cafe inside the Pittsfield Building. Most of the seating is situated in the atrium which gives you the feeling of being outdoors except you're really inside this big old building. It's pretty cool! Menu covers all of your breakfast standards at really, really reasonable prices. I didn't think places like this existed in Chicago anymore!! (Outside of like, the Golden Nugget) I ordered the Sante Fe breakfast burrito, which absolutely hit the spot. I have been here several times, and the food is always great, especially their breakfast. We got there ahead of a big rush, and ate, "Outside". It took forever to get service, thus no 5 stars. Once a waitress, not ours, took our orders, our food was up in minutes, like 2 or 3. They do need better staff, but the food is do good, an at such a great price, we both decided it could have been a LOT worse. The guy who was supposed to wait on us did apologize before we left as well. NOW that is cool. If you are in the loop, check this place out. We had a nice breakfast here this morning -- convenient location to our hotel with an interesting setting, good food and reasonable prices. My only issue, which lowered its rating, is that the waitress answered "Yes" when I asked if they had maple syrup. She said it was served on the side. Based on that, I ordered blueberry pancakes. When they came, they were served with a side dish of plastic containers of Smuckers brand breakfast syrup. When I explained to the waitress the difference between that and real maple syrup, she clearly did not "get it" and did not acknowledge any issue. As noted by others, this is clearly posted "CASH ONLY" one must wonder how a business can survive in todays economy with a CASH ONLY policy. They offer many specials for that breakfast stop before work, for about $6 you can get 2 eggs, 2 strips of bacon, 2 slices of buttered toast w/jelly and 3/4 plate full of hashbrowns. Service is very fast and they stayed on top of refills. First time to visit this location and so far I like it. The hostess needs to liven up her personality a bit, otherwise, all was good. They offer inside the lobby seating or seating inside the cafe, they have a full counter with stools to sit at an dine. Take-away is available at a side counter. My experience here was horrible. The service was bad and so was the food. I ordered the south of the border which had no flavor. The description stated that the eggs would be topped with onion, tomatoes, sliced avocado, pepper jack cheese, and jalapeños. I received everything in an omelet form instead of the eggs being fried hard as requested. I told the waitress this is not what I ordered and that I requested no onions. She took the food and came back with the EXACT same plate. The cook simply plucked the onions and scrambled the EXACT SAME eggs. I know this because I could see the condiments I added to the platter still there. As soon as she brought the plate back I told her this is still not the order and what the description said simply said this is what they gave me. When looking for a classic diner spot in a vintage building, look no further than the Pittsfield Café. It might be a little tricky to find, but it is worth it. I think I always get the Reuben, but it is perfectly done. Service is fast and pleasant. The food is inexpensive and the portions are huge.
