Honestly one of the best east coast pizzas in the neighborhood! No frills just simple but delicious pizza. They got the crust, sauce and topping ratios just right. The crust has a nice crunch but still chewy bite. It holds the sauce and ingredients well. The sauce is flavorful. They have slices: cheese, pepperoni, sausage and veggies. You can order your whole pizzas ahead. The owner Mike and staff are soo nice and welcoming. You can tell they care about their customers and their product. The one time I came too late for a slice, Mike was like call me next time and I'll save one for you. Lol no bother it's ok. When people were saying Pizza Amelia is the best pizza in the city I thought it was a farce, but let it be known, the people are not lying. These pies are the perfect mix of NY and Chicago style pizza, fat standard cut slices, large enough to fold (if you know you know) on a slightly chewy thin crust, but not cracker thin, with perfectly portioned toppings and the finest ingredients. I ordered pickup and was notified through Toast when the order completed. The restaurant worker, who I assumed is the pleasant owner everyone raves about greeted me. Before I left he shaved fresh Parmesan on my pizza and sent me away with delicious lemon italian ice, he even got the door for me; talk about service. The taste was out of this world delicious, I ordered the mozzarella/tomato sauce with sausage and pepperoni. The ingredients are fresh, the pizza is delicious and yes I may have danced a little with the first bite (as you should when the food makes you smile)! I will definitely be returning. Ample street parking for pickup. Don't park in the lot, even though Apple Maps says to, the lot is NOT owned by the restaurant. Situated in Roscoe Village.. it's a small shop that's only open Wednesday-Sunday from 4-8:30 pm and all they offer is 16" pizzas and soda. The dough is amazing and best described as a hybrid between New York & New Haven style? They use all quality ingredients with their sauce made from Stanislaus whole peeled tomatoes, Grande Mozzarella cheese, Ezzo Pepperoni, etc. Don't expect to find pineapple or even giardiniera here as they only offer 5 different toppings; sausage or pepperoni/ onions, mushrooms or green peppers! So glad to have this great new pizza spot on Roscoe Street serving east coast pies and slices that remind me of so many spots I used to frequent back home in New Jersey. New York style pizza has come a long way here in Chicago, with places like Zaza's rivaling some of the best pizza back home. But, of course, while the quality is great, the price is steep. There's Jimmy's, which used to be the only act in town, but they too have suffered from staggering prices and a noticeable dip in quality and freshness. Enter Pizza Amelia, using quality ingredients and constantly tinkering with their recipe at this early stage, serving up really good pizza at very reasonable prices. They nailed the crust, a sort of in-between New York and New Haven crunch. It's got a nice flavor to it as well, which is a welcome change from so many places in the city that attempt this style. The cheese to sauce ratio is excellent, and the sauce itself is very well done, well seasoned with just a little tang. The cheese is good, but, to me, it's a little overdone, particularly on the full pies. You want some cheese pull, and this really doesn't have that. Maybe that's a function of the New Haven influence, but I feel like it would elevate the pie for sure. Having had both, right now I'd say the slices are actually a little better than the pies. Maybe they're a little fresher, but they do have a little cheese pull and are far less greasy. I said Amelia reminds me of many a New Jersey spot, and boy, that grease on the pie was another example. You definitely need a few paper towels to sop some of that up. Pizza Amelia isn't a 5 star pizza spot yet, but I feel like they can get there. And, honestly, even if they don't, they have a customer for life in me. Like the east coast cousin to their neighbor Bartoli's, it isn't the absolute best pizza you have ever had, but you know what you're getting every time you go - quality, delicious pizza made with care at affordable prices. Looking forward to seeing how they grow - would love to see them offer a white pie option, and maybe play around with some other east coast styles (how about a Trenton pie?). read more

We had some friends stop over last week and needed to figure out a quick bite. I saw this place getting worked on while I went to get my Jimmy John's orders and lo and behold they were finally open. The guy behind the counter was super jazzed to have us in. He gave one helluva handshake and that alone will give em five stars. Like if these are the same hands that work the dough, I know I'm in for a treat. The inside has a few seats but you'd be better off taking it to go. Not really a place for big groups, but I'm sure if you needed it, they would find a way to make it work. There were people in there maxing on single slices, so I assume they sell by the slice. We got a cheese pie and a pepperoni & sausage pie to go. It was a really solid pizza. You could taste the quality of the ingredients. Full disclosure- I don't eat cheese. BUT, I'm a huge pizza lover and order it everywhere I go from Chicago to New York to Italy. And, I brought two friends with who do eat cheese, so my review is summing up the total experience. First off, the guy running the place, pretty sure he said his name is Mike, seems like a really good dude, hard-working and enthusiastic. How many times have we all gone into a place where it almost seems like they're pissed that you're bothering them..... the exact opposite here. My two buddies absolutely loved their pizza. Said that everything from the dough to the sauce to the cheese to the sausage and pepperoni were without question the best they've had in Chicago in many years. I felt the same way about my no cheese sausage pizza. I did mention to Mike that I always order my pizza well done, but he talked me out of it. He told me that they do a charred crust and it would most likely be great without being well done, but he could always put it back if needed. He ended up being correct. It was perfect. The dough was incredible.- I could've just eaten plain dough for hours. The sauce was perfect, not too acidic. The sausage was fantastic. Just a perfect pizza. And, they have Italian ice, which in early November still works perfectly. The only downside is that it's about a 40 minute drive for me. But I just need to figure out how to squeeze in more trips to Roscoe Village. Great job Pizza Amelia.....the best in the city.... read more

Was craving some crispy hot melty pepperoni pizza on this cold wintery evening and boy did Pizza Amelia deliver! The crust is so delicious and crispy and soft at the same time, the herbs and the cheese and fresh tomato sauce are exactly what I needed plus the delicious pepperoni to top it off. Mike was very nice and treated me well. I can't wait to order a whole pie to share with friends next time. Update: I just took out my pizza Amelia slice at 1:40 AM. I've ordered from here probably about 5 times at this point and, each time I go, the more I want to go back. The owner describes the pizza as a mix between NY Style and New Haven, with a heavier influence of the latter. It's great pizza -- period. But as a New York guy, I love the feel of the pizzeria. It's reminiscent of the family owned pizzerias I grew up with in upstate NY and I absolutely love that. Please add giardinera to the topping choices though. I know it's not east coast, but well drained giard goes great on pizza. When you add that to the menu, I'll petition Yelp to add a 6 star option. read more
