Nice pizza and pasta spot. The staff was attentive and made an effort to cater to families (coloring and lollipops). The tomato flavor was bright on the margherita pizza. Only complaint was the crust could've been toastier. Arancini was very cheesy and had the surprise benefit of tomato flavor. Favorite was the trofie al pesto genovese with fresh pesto and plenty of pine nuts. This is one of our go to pizza spots and we'll definitely be back. read more

Cesar salad was literally two pieces of lettuce with dressing; pizza was saggy and very thin. And for all, expect a mandatory included 20% service charge to your bill. This is a great location and is so much better than the Santana Row location... restaurant-look wise. This place is spacious with lots of seating and natural light coming through the windows. I like this a lot because it isn't too dark like the SRow location. We ordered our usual which is a Caesar salad with a side of Piadini, Heirloom potato pizza with fennel sausage, and a side of anchovies. The food tasted the same; consistent flavor and taste, etc. The food tasted perfect. My only problem is that our order took too long for some reason? There were only like 7-8 tables open during the early noon and our order still took too long. Our water was barely refilled as well which was not good. Came for lunch on a Monday so that place was practically empty. We opted for outdoor seating since it was a sunny day, and we had our pup with us. When our server handed us the menus, she informed us of the mandatory 20% service charge. I appreciate her transparency but gosh, 20%... Hubby and I shared the Warm Brussel Sprouts salad (today April 1st happens to be the last day for it... did not realize it was seasonal), House-Made Focaccia and a Fennel Sausage pizza. Serving size was good so these were more than enough for us. Overall... the restaurant was spacious, lots of tables - inside and out, and parking is not too difficult since there is a lot and ample street parking. We are pizza snobs and want to enjoy the pizza from here but it's not for us. We go with the classic flavor of Margherita versus the other flavors on the menu. The mozzarella is a bit tough because it's not freshly made and the sauce is okay. Mostly what gets me is that the pizza is wet in the bottom. Maybe it was sitting on the plate too long before coming to us? We enjoyed the arancinis which were very crispy and topped with freshly grated parmesan. Hubby wanted a dab of sauce on the side for extra dipping. The field greens were very fresh and dressed perfectly. Nice thin slices of radishes which are not spicy this time of the year. There is an automatic 20% service fee added to your bill. It's not a problem and they make sure you know from the time you enter and continue with the person who takes your order and when you pay the bill. $20 for a pizza with very simple ingredients is not cheap IMO. I like the space. In the summer, the front of the restaurant opens up to the street with seating. Service is fine. The place is a local favorite and has been in business for many years. Great pizza spot with unique pizzas! The three of us shared the sweet corn and peach pizzas. These combos were new to us and tasty. We also shared a bottle of Riesling and focaccia. We each took a slice home so the amount we ordered was perfect for 3 people. The wait wasn't very long as we got there a little after 6 pm when the Lafayette art and wine festival ended. Our waiter said we arrived at a good time as the restaurant started to fill up. Service was great. 2 of us aren't meat eaters so they made the corn pizza without the bacon. Right out the gate, the first thing that was communicated to us was the automatic 20% tip, which I was not mad at. I figure, if the server performs at the level at which a 20% is warranted, then why not? I wish all restaurants would remove the tip and just add an automatic surcharge to the bill (says the guy fresh back from his trip to Japan). I absolutely love this place!!! Every time I visit, the staff greets me with a smile and they're so willing to go above and beyond to ensure you have an excellent experience! The menu is full of delicious seasonal options. One of my favs is the fall cabbage with bacon and boiled egg. Yum! But I must say my all time favorite dessert is the cornmeal shortcake with fresh whip cream and strawberries. This will not disappoint! They do tend to have a bit of turnover with the kitchen staff so sometimes favorites don't taste exactly the same as a prior visit, which is a pet peeve of mine, but I'm still a fan of Pizza Antica. First things first, don't write this place off as a pizza joint only - this is a fabulous neighborhood Italian restaurant with seasonal selections and classic year-round favorites. For a year I worked down the street, and Antica became one of my favorite spots to grab a weekday lunch. That's a very special relationship to build, and I'm grateful I felt special and appreciated there before AND after becoming a regular. There's something really lovely about their spacious outdoor seating patio - right on Mt. Diablo so great people watching and that feeling of being in the middle of it all, while enjoying some fresh air and sunshine. No issues with shade or keeping warm, every table is a great spot with a great view. The menu changing with the seasons only adds to the experience and will keep you coming back. All summer long I was hooked on their capellini with a glass of sparkling rose, a gorgeous light lunch. In the spring, you're not gonna find a better warm Brussels sprouts salad ANYWHERE - one of the most delicious and crave-able meals I've ever had. And their gorgeous Napoletana style pizzas are classic and delicious - I'm always a sucker for a great Margherita, but do not pass up their Potato Leek, it's a game changer. Pizza antica is one of my go to restaurants. The pizza is some of the best I've had with a really flavorful, thin crust and a nice choice of classic toppings. I've tried every style and they're all excellent. When paired with a Trumer Pils, it's a perfect combo. The fried chicken is also very good and I never leave here without getting an affogato. Extra points to Pizza Rustica for being one of few restaurants in the east bay that serve a really good espresso. The server took our order, then completely ignored us for the rest of the evening until we'd had enough waiting and had to flag her down to request the check. The loud, cacophonous space was making our toddler uncomfortable, but no amount of crying was enough to draw the attention of the server to see what was going on or ask us how our experience was. Our crying baby blended into the ambience quite naturally, so much so that servers and the evening manager naturally tuned her out as they both paced around without ever looking in our direction. We would have been fine just getting our check and leaving, but the complete disregard for our table and our uncontrollable baby made it impossible to swiftly make an exit. We were trapped and invisible. To add insult to injury, the server delegated the check and pizza box task to another employee, never bothering to help us package our pizza (which we hadn't even touched yet) or stop by our table to say thank you for coming in. She was boxing other guests' half-eaten food all evening, but somehow our untouched pizza was different. The check finally arrived with a box delivered by another employee rather than our server. I scribbled a note on the check expressing my displeasure and handed it to the manager who was attempting to race by us one last time. She seemed surprised that an upset guest would stop her in her tracks to press a complaint note into her hand. She offered a gift certificate, which felt like a cheap disregard of our complaint considering we'd driven 30 minutes to the venue. Rather than accept the gift card, I've decided to post here to help others avoid a negative family experience like the one we just had at Pizza Antica. read more

I really like the Heirloom potato pizza with truffle oil, my daughter had the margherita, and my other son had the make your own with prosciutto, onion, pepp, and olives pizza. Pizzas were great, Brussels salad with sautéed pancetta, chopped egg was great. The Caesar salad was ok, as the leaves were big and floppy, I prefer the lettuce to be crunchy instead. Met up with my former boss here for dinner the other day, and was definitely impressed with his recommendation. Located a very convenient 1 block away from BART, traveling to Pizza Antica was certainly very convenient. They offer plentiful indoor and outdoor dining via parklets. As it was rather hot outside that day, we opted for the nicely air-conditioned indoor dining option. Service was very friendly, informative, and attentive throughout the dining experience. Menu options were definitely condensed significantly from pictures I saw on Yelp. And according to my former boss, the menu size use to be 3 pages, vs the 1-page front and back that they offer now. We went for the arancini for an app, and I had the fennel sausage pizza for my entrée. The arancini, consisting of mozzarella, tomato, and basil, all encompassed within a crunchy shell, was pretty tasty, and an excellent start of our meal. The fennel sausage pizza however, topped with portobello mushrooms and roasted onions, was out of this world. And truly stole the show! The pizza dough had a nice, slightly crunchy consistency, while the fresh toppings offered a delicious burst of flavors with every bite. We have been coming to this restaurant for a few years and tonight was the best service and food experience we have had. Our server, Justin, greeted us right away. He was knowledgeable about the menu with all of our questions and even great with my kid! He recommended a few dishes that we ended up choosing and they were delicious! We got the Brussels sprout salad and the pear pizza . He recommended adding goat cheese to the pizza and I don't know that I can ever eat pizza without it again! If I could leave a 10 star review for Pizza Antica, I would do so in a heart beat. From the food to the people, it is all amazing. Context: I had placed an order over the phone for pick up. Unfortunately a few minutes later a family member of mine suffered a medical emergency. Once things settled down, I remembered about the order I had placed. I called Pizza Antica (about 10 minutes after closing) to explain the situation, they were completely understanding and stuck around so I could still come and grab the food we ordered. When I arrived, they gave me our food on the house and threw in a cookie on top. They really helped the night end on a positive note after a stressful situation. To top things off, it was one of the best Gluten Free pizza's that I've ever had. I would HIGHLY recommend going to Pizza Antica and I will be returning whenever I come back to visit my family in the Bay Area. I can't recall the names of the two people that I interacted with, but to those employees I want to extend a massive thank you. I'm really looking forward to my next visit! read more
