Pizza art cafe has a nice atmosphere, the decorative pieces around and the bare red brick gave it a unique feel. I really wanted to like this place. However, the service was rude, slow, ill informed about the menu and inflexible with sharing dishes. We were told ordering a side dish alone wasn't possible and that the ten of us had to share a single check. Additionally, the question was asked to the waiter "do you do anything for birthdays" and the man ordered for us a very expensive desert without confirming if we wanted it and charged us. This is a cozy, inviting place. It feels comfortable and almost romantic. It is a great spot for a date or for meeting friends. We meet friends for dinner here on Friday. We had a large booth in the back corner. It was very comfortable for the 4 of us. Service was fine. We did have to ask for more water a couple of times, but it was no big deal. We ordered bruschetta and pizzas. The brushcetta was so good. I could have eaten just that and been happy. I tried the vegetable pizza and the mushroom pizza, both were fine. I would love to give this place a better review than 3 stars but I can't. I've been 2 times and the first time was 4 stars but the second time was barely a 1. Without getting long winded here are the two issues... 1. The service sucks. Not because of the servers but because of management. Both times I was there it was completely packed and completely understaffed. They had 1 server running every thing in the house. I don't know how many people they can fit in there, I'd guess 40 to 50 at max and every single table except for one had someone. The server was great but getting anything without waiting forever was the problem. If this is how it always is there I'd quit working. 2. Take a look at the pic I posted of the "Chef's Platter". They have amazing pizza... some of the best but I don't think that means you can cheap out on everything else. The chef's platter is described as a wonderful combination of meats, cheeses and crackers. What is it in reality? A couple of slices of warm cheese that has been sitting out for god knows how long along with some Ritz crackers (seriously), some so-so meat and a pile of bleu cheese crumbles. As if the crackers weren't enough what do you expect me to do with bleu cheese crumbles? Spoon them into my mouth or something. Bleu cheese is great for stuffing mushrooms or making dip but it's not a cheese you just sit and nibble on. Great Italian style thin crust pizza baked in a brick oven. They now have a winter menu which includes Janko's balls. Fairly priced $10-$15 but all the pizzas are incredible. I recently had dinner here and had a good meal. My friends and I ordered the pizza with prosciutto (choice of cooked in the cheese or just placed on top). Tons of great reviews detailing an awesome pizza experience. For us, my usual dining group we weren't thrilled. This is that fine art pizza, the pretty version of pizza also known as Neapolitan. The 10" pie, thin crust made in a wood oven with puffy edges and the freshest ingredients. Other types of this pizza would be the Napolitana, marinara, diavola, or Siciliana. Names that would be found in any other pizza restaurant serving up this style of pie. This place is hella busy, so calling ahead a reservation is a definite. Tiny space, but charming. Make sure to double check your reservation with the phone person, I had a terrible experience when my table was given away due to the chick not recording the name correctly. A mistake which cost us an additional twenty minutes to wait on top of the ten we were told over the phone. Due to the area, you may want to cab it or plan ahead because street parking will require effort. They haven't any delivery and it's BYOB. Beverages here carry an exorbitant cost, try $3.00 for an Arizona Tea. See their menu on-line. I liked my salad more than the pizza. When it comes to thin crust I think two toppings is max unless the pie can handle it. Sounds strange? I cannot stand pizzas that fold and fall because of too many toppings. What's the point? We ordered a blue cheese salad (excellent) and two pizzas. Siciliana and Spinaci which didn't wow us. Siciliana had too many toppings and the pizza was weighed down, toppings drizzling off the slice. The crust was weak and bent over like a NY pizza slice. One of my dining pals thought that the pizza had a severe smell of wood from the brick oven, something that wasn't appealing to him. I took the leftovers to go thinking I might give it another try, stuck it in the freezer and forgot about it. I typically never forget about pizza takeout. Something I can relate with; in other reviews is the one server which blows. It's a dude and he pays more attention to having conversations than to helping diners. Lucky for us we had a gal and she was very helpful. As I mentioned earlier the place is charmingly small; a group behind us had had their fill of wine and kept bumping us as they rose and collapsed when coming and going from smoke breaks and the bathroom. Bleh. All things aside, we realized we three are typical Chicagoans. We like our pizza, Chicago style, traditional. So without bad mouthing PAC too much, if this style of pizza wows you (Neapolitan), it's worth a try. But if for instance your favorite pizzas include Art of Pizza or Lou Malnatti's? I LOVE this place. I've been here so many times and can't believe I'm just now getting around to writing a review for them. First, you MUST order the bruschetta. It should be a law. I don't even like feta, but this might make me a convert. It's enough to feed four as a starter, but you couldn't go wrong with eating it entirely by yo'self (no shame in the game). The pizzas are brick-oven and personal-sized. I suppose you could split a few between the table, as well. My personal fave is the prosciutto, with arugula thrown on after it comes out of the oven. I usually have a little leftover, which tastes just as good the next day. I've also tried their pastas (the pesto, especially, is amazing!). Lastly, I'd HIGHLY recommend you get the cannoli. The filling tastes much like cookie dough. Even if you take one bite and the rest goes home, you won't be sorry! As others have mentioned, this restaurant is BYOB. They do take reservations which, depending on the night, is absolutely necessary. They are very reasonably priced! Four of us met for dinner last night. We had the bruschetta (like, duh), three pizzas, and pasta. Total came to $72. We all went home with leftovers. You can't go wrong with that! Parking is relatively easy on the surrounding streets. BYOB - fantastic. Cozy ambiance - excelente. Food variety - awesome. Service - hmph. With it's proximity to mine and my best group of friends' houses, it's a shock we haven't checked this place out over the years. Particularly since it's BYOB... I am a huge fan of BYOB establishments. I loved the setting. Dimly lit, warm and inviting. The only thing better would have been Summertime weather and patio seating. We were seated in a back corner booth. I am fairly certain that the table was turned the wrong way because it was unusually far from the seats, so I felt like we had to lean forward for comfort for most of the meal. The menu was - shocker - not just pizza. Pastas, salads, entrees, all sorts of excitement. But when it comes to a pizza place, you just gotta go with the pizza. And the 6 of us did, one for each. Prosciutto, spinaci, the pesto, the bresaola... and, of course, the highly talked about bruschetta to start. The bruschetta came out quickly and, if anything, this was the star of the show. They said it was made from pita bread, and it that's the case, it was the thickest puffiest pita bread I have ever seen. It was chock full of feta and tomatoes, and a great start to split 6 ways. I appreciated their take on this classic - unique and tasty without going overboard or too adventurous. Where things start to go awry is the service. Since 6 of us ordered pizzas, we expected the wait time to be a little longer so as to cater to other smaller parties, and probably because the oven is fairly small. Plus, we had so much wine with us, we were not in any type of rush. The pizzas came out a bit too staggered, over the course of 15 minutes or so. One came out first, followed by two more, then another, then one more, then, finally, the sixth. Not normally an issue if we were all sharing, but since we all went on our own, the first couple were finishing by the time the rest started coming. It was difficult to check in with the waitress, but when we did, we got the "yes, they'll be up shortly" type of response. I do not know what the capacity of their kitchen is but it would have been better to get things all at once, or with a bit less in-between time. But in the end, the food was good. The pesto, which was my pizza, was great. The crust was thin and crisp and one thing I liked is that the pizzas were a bit more well done. I had some of the bresaola and it was actually my favorite. Everyone was happy with their choices! As far as portions go, if you are moderately hungry you could finish a whole pie, and I definitely think that one would be too little for two people to split. Since it was BYOB the bill was minimal. That alone would get me to frequent this place more. More communicative service would have made the experience a little better. One last item I would be remiss of me not to mention. They desperately need a window for the door that leads from the dining room to the kitchen. While this cafe is obviously known for its mouthwatering pizzas, we come here for the cevapcici and palacinke. I'm super picky about my cevapi (I'm Croatian), and Pizza Art Cafe has a great cevapi mix and they cook them to absolute perfection. They're juicy little sausages and are paired perfectly with kajmak and pita. It's a rare dish to find here in the States and Pizza Art does an incredible job. This was great food! We had soup and pizza. I don't say this often, but I was served soup that's even better than what I can make -- a true harbinger of a place being worth spending money at. The one time we visited, we made a mistake and ordered a pizza that we didn't really care for -- it had an ingredient that we don't really like, and we didn't realize it was on there. Our bad! But even with a slight distaste for the individual ingredient, we both agreed that the pizza itself was quite spectacular. Generous portions of ingredients, piping hot, and really well prepared. It's no fault of the restaurant that we ordered wrong! And, did I mention the soup? Just don't get too involved with looking at the art on the wall. I love this place so much I came here two nights in a row this past weekend. Just take my money and give me your pasta. For some reason, the sometimes chilly attitude doesn't bother me, I don't take it personally. It's probably because they treat everyone the same and the food never suffers, so I don't care. Maybe if I become a regular I'll get hugs and kisses, but I don't really need that anyways. The bruschetta is ridiculous, just get it immediately. I found Pizza Art Cafe due to a work get together I had a few years back. Since then I have been back numerous times. Now that I am a business owner, I love bringing my clients here as a "Thank You" dinner. People know me as a carnivore. I love meat, however, when I come here I love their veggie pizza. It is the only place that I found so far that I love their veggie pizza more then their meaty pizzas. It is a tiny little place, so you might want to make reservations if you are coming with a client or a date. Yes it is also a great date place. But without a reservation expect to have a wait time. It was just crust. The other pizza was a four cheese, which traditionally has 4 cheeses mixed throughout the pizza. Not here. I brought family here that were visiting the city and had a poor experience. First off, the pizzas are very small for being about $15 but we ordered a few anyways. One of them was burnt in parts (tasted like charcoal) and half of the pizza was missing cheese and ingredients. I live down the street and have been going here for 5 years. I love this place and I have no idea why I didn't review it sooner! It is my absolute go to on Friday night for pizza!!!!! The food is spectacular. I have eaten the Spinach pizza (Spinaci), the Spaniard, the one with the egg on top with ham and artichokes (Capricciosa), and the one with Ricotta and smoked beef - get the BEEF (Pizza Lasagna), as well as others. Sooooooooooo good. We have also had numerous salads, the amazing Bruschetta - BE PREPARED FOR SOMETHING AMAZING, and desserts (Crepes and Canoles). The food is always A+++. I get carry out most of the time but have dined in several times as well. The service has been good, all but once when they were slammed, but I can understand some of the reviews with service comments. Doesn't matter, the food is so good that I don't even care! A three hour tour. A THREE HOUR TOUR. No, we weren't setting sail from a tropic port, but our dinner at Pizza Art Café quickly turned into a fateful, unforgettable, clusterfuck of a culinary trip. Our BYOB dinner group picked this place for our August excursion and I was completely prepared to love it. I love Bosnian food. I love Italian food. For all intents and purposes, this is an Italian brick oven pizza joint with Balkan flair. What's not to love? ... Erm, most things. We made reservations a week ago. Normally, we eat at 7:30. They told us we'd have to make it 8pm. No problem. Except, we showed early and our table wasn't ready (understandable). We're asked to wait outside as they clear it. Then, another group takes our table. It's now 8:05 and the table that would "be ready in a few minutes" is occupied by someone else. We don't see any other vacancies. They tell us the people won't get up. Besides informing them that they've taken someone else's table, the host doesn't take any further action to give us our space that's clearly marked as ours on the seating chart. I say to my friends, "I bet they're Bosnian." Wouldn't you know it, they were Bosnian and they seemed to be familiar with the place and the people working there. I guess their friends get preferential treatment. The 8 of us are finally seated at a table for 6 that was pushed together last minute. For 30 minutes we sit and drink our twist top wine. We have not been acknowledged, we have not been given water, we don't have plates, and we don't have silverware. We flag down the host. He brings us a carafe of tepid water and explains that they are short-staffed that evening. We really just want to know who our server is. We end up spilling a glass of water because we're packed like sardines and the tables don't match up. My annoyance over the wait is momentarily diverted as water soaks my dress right at the crotchal region. We still haven't been given napkins. Finally, our server shows up. She asks if we've been helped yet. I tell her no and her response was, "Awesome! Cool!" Ugh... No. None of the above. We order Muscles, Ćevapčići, Greek Salad, Pesto Pasta, and 5 Pizzas. It's now an hour since we've been seated and they throw a complimentary Bruschetta our way. However, we're hesitant to dig in as we still do not have plates or silverware. My friend's husband grabs plates off the bar and then another server brings a few plates. We are still without silverware. Quite a bit later we're given freshly cleaned utensils and the meal starts to arrive. They bring us the Pesto Pasta and the Ćevapčići. Both were delicious and I would gladly order these again. Our waitress tells us we'll have to wait longer for the pizza. The pizzas are finally at our table about 2 hours after we were seated. This is where I'll have to disagree with Megan G. I agree that they were very salty, but I loved them! In order, my favorites were the Bresaola (topped with smoked beef aka suho meso, like a bit of Bosnia in your mouth), Quattro Formaggi with added Salami, and the Prosciutto pizza. We realize we never received our Muscles or Greek Salad and ask for them to be removed from the order because we have more than enough food. Our waitress admits she never put down an order of Muscles even though she was writing our requests on her notepad. It's now nearing 11pm and we're offered complimentary desserts. We order 1 of each and get the Tiramisu, the Cannoli, and a Nutella-filled Crêpe (you can also get Preserves-filled). All of them were decadent and delicious. I don't normally like Cannoli, but this was so tasty! The check is dropped off and I see the Greek Salad hasn't been taken off. I bring it to their attention and the waitress comes back to inform me that we did, in fact, get a salad, which was news to me. I insist we did not. She insists we did. I suggest that she may be confusing the comped Bruschetta with a salad. She doesn't accept that. She is adamant that she cleared salad from our table. Our friend explains that many of the pizzas had arugula on them. She's not buying it. She begrudgingly takes the bill back, fixes it, and plops it back down. I take a look and see the Greek Salad has been removed but I don't see the new total. She snarkily tells me to flip up the first sheet to see an additional sheet on the back showing the new total, which is now correctly indicating just under $103. She returned and asked if anything needed to go on a card. I handed her about $100 in cash and asked her to put $30 on the credit card. The credit card and receipt were brought back. Our change was not. So, figure that you calculate the comped items into the tip. That would have made it around $130 with a 20% tip. We do not feel that tip was earned, but she basically took it and we were far too defeated by that point. read more

Walking by Blago's house (vaarrry niice) and through the tree-lined sidewalks, I daydreamed about having a wife and kid(s) and living in one of these fine fine homes. Possibly, one day. The weather's nice out. Take a stroll and check things out. Once you get tired and hungry from walking, pick up a bottle of vino and head on into Pizza Art Cafe. I'd stayed away from this place thinking it was a relative of the Art of Pizza. One quick read of that review and you'll see why I was scurred. There was no need. These restos aren't even in the same category (I mean, they are... but not really... well... I'll shut up about this now). Deliciously-made Italian-style pizzas, it's evident why the word 'art' is in the name. The plates are gorgeous. The food looks as good as it smells. Everything about the culinary experience will make you hungry... and your hunger will be satisfied. White wine at the ready, I began my meal with the bleu cheese salad. Mixed greens, tomato, red onion, and cucumber covered with blue cheese and balsamic vinaigrette sounds pretty basic. But every mouthful of that green deliciousness popped with flavor. I enjoy salads but I don't seek them out. I would seek this out. Do yourself a favor and order it. The taste is wonderful and you won't fill yourself up for dinner. And, you need to throw down on some wood-fired truth. I had a difficult time choosing which pizza to order, given they all sounded so delicious but I finally settled on the Capricciosa. I ordered *so* well. Why? Red sauce base, topped with mushrooms, artichoke, green olives, HAM AND AN OVER-EASY EGG. Done. Done!! As much as I wanted to savor the flavor, I devoured this pizza like I was the Big, Bad Wolf at a retirement home. I couldn't stop eating and I was sad when I was finished with my meal. Say what you will about me, but I'll bet I'm the only person you know who has an entire series of 6+ minute videos of her semi-androgynous cat (explained in an earlier review) humping a worn out stuffed puppy dog in various and interchanging cat karma sutra positions. What does that have to do with pizza? Well, not a whole lot, to be honest, but it serves the purpose of demonstrating my (and my cat's) comfort level when it comes to freedom of expression as well as my ability to make whomever I'm near appear really levelheaded, patient, mysterious, compassionate, advantageous, etc- I really probably could go on forever, but I'll spare a few moments and lay it out simply: I am the greatest wing-man in the world and you should take me on your dates... and buy me dinner. I will work for food, I will (likely) get you laid, I will earn you the respect of your date, and it will likely be the best non-'three-some' threesome you'll ever go on. But please do note the 'likely' part I've added in the above as I can't guarantee your sexual satisfaction as I will not have any part in the actual acts and I certainly can't be held responsible for either party's possible pre-existing sexual condition and/or foibles. Someone get's whiskey dick? It ain't on me pal... I'm just there to aid in the connection. Before embarking on "our" (you, your guest and little ole me) date, we need to choose the perfect setting. Somewhere you can dress up or go casual, somewhere with heaps of personality but that's still comfortable, not stuffy, and somewhere that won't break the bank either- It's not fun feeling like you're blowing all your money on a risk-y first-ish date, that might not even let you blow your wad while you're in their presence later that evening. And equally, it's not fun feeling like you have to commit more time, conversation or coital relations to a date because there's an unspoken level of agreed upon prostitution on first dates where it feels a little like the code of Hammurabi and paying back an eye for an eye, but instead it's c*ck for cuisine. Anyway... I suggest nipping any problems in the bud and making an easy peasy rezo for 3 at Pizza Art Cafe. Perfect ambiance, dim to barely lit so everyone looks their best, the portions are perfectly share-able (good thing there'll be 3 of us!), the dishes are insanely delish and total comfort food, but you won't feel uncomfortably fatty afterward... unless you get one of their meat plates- in which case I can also not be responsible for your meat-sweatin' ass not getting any nookie. Nobody wants that ish. The service is attentive, but no where near smothering. They recognize when the mood calls for them to just leave your sh*t alone for a few minutes, the prices are nominal, but not to the point where you look like a cheap ass if you're the one buying. And best of all, they're BYO muthaf*cking B! Ka-ching! Ka-ching! The mood is set. The wine is on. We'll all meet, I'll be running late. You two will make eyes with each other while I fumble with heavy silverware that'll surely hit the glassware and bring the awkward attention and conversation back to me. I'll apologize, guzzle some wine, probably break out some cat vids (I can save the sexy ones for a latter date and maybe just show the more wholesome stuff to start; Wouldn't want you to be shown up by a cat in the boudoir). I'll probably drink just enough to tell the story about how on more than one occasion I've eaten gravel chunks thinking they were chocolate chips fallen from a passerby's cookie, or the time I sh*t my pants as an adult while running in my neighborhood and then still continued to finish my route with a load in my shorts even though I had pass my house twice before I finished my distance and crab-walked inside and up to my shared family bathroom. Yep. You're gonna look like a rock star by I get done with this date. And the beauty is, that everything will go swimmingly, regardless of how grossly (in every sense of the word) it's coming off in this review. We'll be drinking wine and fingering the massive bruschetta bites into our mouths to help soak up the wine (just a bit). I'll tell cordial, but still quirky tales to break the ice as you and yours exchange glances of agreed awkwardness wondering why I'm there, but secretly you both enjoy my company because it takes the pressure off either of you to keep your sh*t in order while I ignore social norms. It's like dinner and show, but on a more personal level. I'm going to start with the minestrone soup because I don't have to worry about not-slurping, and you guys have to get the pizza. It's their namesake for crying out loud! The seafood, the egg, the mushroom or my no cheese fave are all perfection, just be sure to save room for the nutella pancakes at the end. What a gem! I walked by this place on the way to the train for months, without ever stopping in. Now I find myself making up for lost time. The pizza is incredible and tastes so authentic. Appropriately priced, suitable for takeout too. read more
