I stopped by Pizza Bari after running in the Pittsburgh Marathon Pre-race (The Shakeout). Pizza Bari is located between Market Square and The Convention Center on Liberty Avenue. The menu consisted of pizza, hoagies, and other pizza shop apps. I decided to try the Chicken Gyro. It was ok. It was kind of dry, and was packed with lettuce and tomatoes. This spot will do the job if it's one of the only options available to you late at night on a Friday or Saturday while downtown...otherwise, I'd steer clear of it. I popped by here one night while in town and checking out a few bars on a Friday night. Like I said in my opening, it was one of the only options for food still available, and had a variety of options on its menu, so decided to give it a go. It's a simple, spacious, well-lit, and (mostly) clean dining area within - you place your order at the counter towards the end of the dining space. Upon entering, I was pretty much the only customer there. I had my order promptly taken and decided to give their BBQ Chicken Hoagie a try since I know that's a popular item in the area and I hadn't gotten one yet. Then I waited...and waited...and waited...for one regular sized sandwich with no one else ahead of me for orders. After almost 30 minutes, I finally received it, and what I got was....meh? It certainly was a BBQ sauce on the chicken....no mistake there...as it pretty much was doused in it and drowned out any other flavors the Hoagie may have had....although I couldn't tell if there were any other ingredients in there that it was supposed to have, aside from maybe one or two small pieces of the green pepper. Regardless, it was late at night and I was hungry, so I ate it up. Did it fill me up and do its job? Sure. Would I recommend this for any occasion other than one I was in where it was one of the last eating options in downtown available? Mmmmm....no. read more

Everything about this was unnecessarily awful. When I arrived my order was not ready. That is not problem for me at all. I decided to use the rest room while their team finished up my order. I used the stall rather than the urinal to urinate. When I opened the door to the stall the manager or possibly owner scolded me for using the stall to urinate rather than a more solid deposit. 1) why are you (not literally) looking over my shoulder in the restroom. B) why are you upset with me for using your facilities in a perfectly functional purpose? And lastly, why did it bother so much to tell me, a paying customer, inferring that I used your restroom incorrectly. After that situation, I went to wash my hands and both soap dispensers were empty. Not like empty and some bubbles came out. No dry like they had needed to be replaced days ago. The soap refills were still in the dispenses so the empty handed potty police can't use the excuse of him replacing them as his purpose for being in there. Who knows how many employees had violated heath codes that day. I then was asked to get my own fountain drink that I had ordered. This also is not a problem for me. I am always willing to lend a hand to make things easier on everyone. The machine was out of ice and when I asked if they had ice they told me no. This may be true. Maybe the main ice machine in the back was down. Or maybe it was 30 minutes prior to close and did not want to fill up the machine again. I will never know. I was very unhappy with my experience at this restaurant. My colleagues and I are in town for a work trip. We stopped by because this place I've been recommended to us by a local. The place was almost empty when we walked in at about 11:55. There had been a list of specials outside so I asked if they had them written down inside. The gentleman behind the cashier said yes just a moment because he was on the phone. So we waited. And we waited. Then I ask again and he said yes, and he went into the back. He came back and proceeded to answer another phone call. Finally, an older gentleman asked if my order had been taken, and I said no, and so I proceeded to give him my order. The website has shown that they had a gyro feta salad. I ordered that. He seemed a little perplexed. So he asked if I had meant chicken feta salad. I said no, I preferred gyro. he then said OK you want Lamb/gyro salad. Not sure why he said lamb, maybe he didn't think I knew gyro meat was. But he said he could make it. My colleague who I've been standing next to me, giving her order to the younger gentleman who had previously ignored us, made what could only be described as a racially motivated comment. She had asked for something and when he went to confirm instead of asking her to repeat her order, he assumed that she had ordered chicken wings. She had not ordered chicken wings. That was the last straw for her and she left. My other colleague had pre-ordered online prior to us arriving, and her food came out last. She stated it was not that good. When I finally did get my salad, it was made with chicken. So I sent it back. The salad in the photo is what I received. There were approximately five little slices of gyro meat, whereas the version with chicken was covered withmeat. I can only assume, they were upset that I sent it back, and decided to stiff me on lamb. And they added French fries on my salad which was not in the description. Again, I assume to make the salad look full. I will never go back nor recommend it. read more

I had the worst experience with the staff today. This is a spot a frequent with my daughter regular. I went alone today to get a salad with French fries for dinner. Its a busy Friday also there's a convention in town which is why I am giving a bit of grace here when I noticed it was well past 30mins before being called for my order. Not an issue but I did not have time for them to make a large being that it took them 30 minutes to make the small. Add in I paid $2 (EACH) for extra tomato and cucumber which was not on there. I simply asked for a refund. Heres where my complaint comes in. The man first argued me about what size I wanted. Next he hands me $7 from his personal I guess idk. I paid 17.08 so that was not acceptable. I explain that I was not accepting the meal and I wanted a refund for the entire order. He throw out a few more singlEd. I said that's is still not right. He says "What do you want? $100?" O said no sir I simply want the amont I paid for returned to me. He snatches (no exaggeration) the money out of my hand , counts $17 in cash and throws it back. So this place is very bland. The food was so-so. I order the 8in bbq chicken hoagie. My expectations was totally crushed as to what i got. I did order to go. But the hoagie was a disappointment. There was scraps of chicken which only had black pepper on top. There was no flavor or smell of bbq. Not even bbq sauce was on it. The veggie well lets put it this way.... Disappointing. The price was like 10.99 but really its like $11.00. And the 12in was $2bucks more i believe. For $11 i expected my hoagie to be full of meat and veggie like a hoagie should be. This was 90% bun w 3% meat and 7% veggie. If you ask me if i would like to suggest this place i probably will not and will not come back. read more

I wish I could find something positive to say about this place but I didn't have a great experience. It was chaotic when I went in. I think they need clear signs, especially about where to pick up your food. There were lots of customers just standing around, blocking the register and soda fountain. A guy would come out of the back and yell out names for people to get their food...sometimes he'd just yell it from the counter, other times he'd walk out onto the floor and yell it out. He wasn't always clear and it added to the overall confusion. After waiting almost 40 minutes and seeing 5 people who ordered after me get their food, I asked about mine and suddenly there it was. The small Italian wedgie I ordered was huge...hard to believe it was the small and not the large, so I can't complain about portion sizes...but it was a huge disappointment. I absolutely love a good Italian sub, and that is how this one was advertised...but folded over in dough, almost like a calzone. There was very little meat in it... The ham was chopped up into small cubes which was very weird. I expected it to be like regular deli meat. It had no flavor, and the dough wasn't even very good. I maybe ate 1/4 of it and the rest went in the trashcan. The atmosphere in the restaurant was loud, unorganized.... Not a place I would give a second chance unfortunately. read more
