Pizza Bella is the place to go for authentic Italian food! I have ordered the Chicken Parmesan sandwich and it is delicious! The chicken is larger that what you would get at other places and it tastes much better. I absolutely love the Alfredo sauce. It is nice and thick and is a great compliment to any of the pasta dishes. When you are looking for a snack, the mozzarella sticks are homemade and the best you will ever have! The pizza bread is a nice size portion and is awesome! I would highly recommend Pizza Bella and if there is something special you want, Tony will not hesitate to make it just the way you want it! We have been ordering from Pizza Bella for years and the deep dish pizza here USED to be delicious. It WAS actually the best in deep dish in Palatine. We've ordered from Pizza Bella probably a couple dozen times and have enjoyed their food and service all but two, one a really gristly sandwich the second a cold and late meal. Both times I called and spoke to Mike who I believe is one of the owners. The gristle-"Italian meats have fat-if you don't like that you should order something else". I told him "I'm not talking melt in your mouth fat but wrestle with it and can't chew it stuff that had to be cut out with a knife and fork". Today I called to complain about an overdue delivery and Mike's response was "he'll be there in 10 minutes-do you want it or not?". We're big fans of the thin crust here. The pastas and entrees are also tasty. We even ordered from Pizza Bella for our son's christening luncheon. Delivery was prompt and the delivery person even set up the buffet with sternos and racks for us. We had tons of leftovers and were happy to have them as new parents! Received a mailing from Pizza Bella showing their menu which looked pretty good. My daughter and I wanted to try their chicken parm and eggplant parm which was the Wednesday special. We should have quit while we were ahead. Another daughter wanted chicken marsala with roasted potatoes. Both the chicken and the potatoes came in too-small containers that were full to the brim with liquid. We fished a small piece of chicken out of the bowl of sauce and literally flushed the rest of the chicken marsala down the toilet. The potatoes are not roasted--they are 4 large spears in a heaping bowl of grease. The grease leaked out all over everything in the bag with the other dishes and garlic bread and also onto the carpet of my car. They really need to revisit their to-go packaging. The pasta dishes were OK. A little too salty, cheese is low quality, and the sauce overly sweet and pasty. If you're feeling too lazy to fix your own pasta, this place is fine as long as you choose the nightly special. Otherwise, it is way overpriced for the quality. And I would avoid anything that comes in a sauce because they don't seem to know what size or type of container to put it in. They offered me a $5 credit on my next order. I'm really not sure if I want to chance a next time. Also, I was told my order would be ready in 30-35 minutes, and it took a little over an hour. Be aware that this is not a "restaurant". So I phoned last night at 5:05 to order a medium sausage and green pepper pizza, extra sauce, well done. Price: $22.35. That seemed high, so she mentioned that it also included a $3.50 delivery charge (and of course you still have to tip the driver). I have heard that the drivers don't get any part of that delivery charge, so it is just pure profit for the owner. Whatever. They say it'll take an hour, which seems really long - well, you want it well done, I'm told. In my mind, having worked in a pizza place decades ago, that just means another 1-2 minutes max longer in the over. OK, fine. So 6:05 p.m. no pizza. 6:15, nothing. 6:20, nothing. I'm in a condo so I walk out to scan the drive area, no vehicles around. Finally I call to see what the problem is. Driver has been driving around for HALF AN HOUR (what they told me) trying to find the building. I don't live in a dark farm house out in the outskirts of town, but rather right in a busy condo area near Palatine H.S. There are signs out along the road indicating all of the building numbers located in each section. So I tell them to have the driver call me, and a few minutes later he calls: "can't find your place." Seems his GPS (Getting People Stupid) is telling him to go where the apartment complexes are further down the block. No, turn around I tell him, and as he's driving I tell him to look for this driveway, fire-hydrant out front, sign across for him indicating the buidling numbers - oh yeah, now I see them. Two minutes later, 6:40 p.m., he arrives with the now-cold pizza. I don't give him too hard of a time other than reminding him that God gave us all brains and we should use them rather than always trying to rely on technology. Even tipped him. Brought the pizza inside and put it in the oven for 10 minutes to heat it up. A little while later the girl who takes the orders on the phone called to see how everything was. It was a lot like the person who asked Mrs. Lincoln right after the assassination: "Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play"? She offers profuse apologies and lots of rationalizations. No offer for a free pizza next time, or a discount, or free delivery - just empty rhetoric. I'm reminded then that this same thing had happened a couple of years ago - that situation was worse, as we'd ordered several pizzas for a party we'd had. No offer of any kind was proposed then, either - just empty, insincere apologies. Screw me once, shame on you - screw me twice, shame on me - never again. read more
