So sad to be forced to update my prior review from 5 to 1 Star. My first time here I was ecstatic. I thought I had finally found my east coast pizza place in Orange County. Unfortunately my second and third visits to pizza D'Oro were terrible experiences. I made excuses for this restaurant because I believe and understand off nights. Conversely, I believe in one night wonders (talking about restaurants). After tonight, I think my first experience was a one hit wonder. The pizza was gross tonight. Ordered a blush sauce, was not a blush. Instead just tasted of clumpy cheese. When I attempted to add crushed red pepper to my pizza I realized that not very many flakes were coming out, I removed the top to find clumped on pepper dust and dirt. Clearly has never been cleaned. Absolutely disgusting. Picture included. The service was the worst of the three times I've been in. Never checked on us. Had to hunt him down for refills and everything needed. I'm usually very forgiving when I find a place that I like but I won't be back. read more

FULL DISCLOSURE: after my less than favorable review, i was contacted by phillip (the owner or maybe manager?) from pizza d'oro. he apologized for my experience and mentioned that he would talk to the staff about it. he was very sincere and made it clear to me that he values excellent customer satisfaction and providing the best service possible to his clients. wow, did his note impress me. additionally, he sent me a voucher for the amount it would cost to order the exact pizza we got last time so that i could try it again. however, this time he recommended ordering it "thin crust" and "crispy" to get it more like a NY-style pie. i called in our take-out order for a medium, thin crust, crispy pizza with mushrooms and green bell peppers. the guy i placed my order with said "extra thin crust and crispy?" and i said okay. in retrospect, that may have been a mistake. when we got our pizza, it definitely looked different from the previous time. it looked way more like a NY-style pie, and i was excited to try it. however, the crust ended up being so thin at the center of the pizza that we could barely get it out of the box and onto our plates without it flopping and dumping the cheese and toppings off it. i guess "extra thin crust" was pushing it. we ended up having to eat our slices with a knife and fork -- very civilized! ;) the flavor was really good: nice cheese, excellent toppings, and tasty sauce -- and a good amount of it, too. but it was a little salty for my taste. if it wasn't for phillip contacting me and urging me to try his pizza again, i wouldn't have ever considered dining there again. i am going to try this again with a "thin crust" -- not "extra thin" -- and report back. i also think pizza d'oro should add a thin crust option to their menu so people like me are presented with this option from the get-go and don't have to experience the same crust-bust that i did. read more

I can see why people like this place. My large sized pizza was slightly oversize, and masking tape was needed to seal the contents of my pizza in its box. It makes you feel like you get more than what you pay for. The menu here is comprehensive. There's pasta, pizza, subs, and every imaginable thing you could possibly want at your earliest convenience at a pizza joint. Kudos to that. I placed an order to go: -3 cheese penne with meatball ($9.70): perhaps I should have ordered a more standard pasta because this was in fact, terrible. Everything was congealed and bland. The meatballs tasted processed and didn't really go with the penne. My bad for making the protein decision on this one, but really, the penne and meatballs didn't meld together. -chicken breast parmesan sandwich ($8.95): the sandwich was substantial in size, but again, lacked flavor. It was very okay. -D'Oro special - black olive, onion, green pepper, pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms ($24.25 for a large): the pizza was hearty with many toppings and the crust had a nice chew. What was lacking was a unifying flavor to the pizza - many good toppings, but a confused identity. I found the crust to be undercooked, and a little too doughy for my taste too. Really good bang for your buck here, but if you're looking for a gourmet pizza, I would try elsewhere. read more

Hi OC, Pizza D' we will mess up your phone order more often then we will get it right .' I rate the food ok, not the best quality but for the price is not bad as far as taste. However You must eat it at the restaurant if you want to eat what you order But if your order to GO, that's where you will most likely will not have what your ordered, caved, desired,...you will have what ever the new hire decides to have for you. This is not my first, second but the 3rd experience with messed orders, I'm not blaming the hires. They seem to have a high turnover of employees and that is management problem. Wow - why haven't I found this place before?? "Yelpets" - i'm stunned that this place is only ranked at four stars... In my opinion, this is exactly the type of restaurant that has made yelp possible/fun/interesting. This is the kind of place that you look for, where everything is homemade by warm friendly people, served up with a smile... Only to be followed up by a warm, gracious "thank you"!! The Pie: excellent, excellent pizza. It's that good in my opinion. The dough was perfect even for its enormity and the sauce was also spot on. Let me put it to you this way yelpers... I'm originally from Detroit, and my boss is from New York... We both bit into the pizza and proceeded to give one another a high-five! What else is there to say?? :) The gals working tonight were hustling their little fannies off and never once tried to not keep a friendly conversation from ending. Hell, after I had paid and was about to walk out... One of them had the "audacity" to thank me once again, and politely asked "please come back again"!! Seriously?? This was horrible tonight. We ordered the king pizza thin crust. We have ordered this before and today was horrible. It came out with so much oil and soggy bottom we left most of it. We ordered a blush sauce and it was horrible and returned. We ordered the gnocchi and returned It because it had no taste. We ordered the all you can eat lasagna and it came out with the cheese not melted inside and cold in most places. The service was terrible. We had to ask many times to get refills on the drinks but the waiter disappeared and never asked how things went. He came back and credited some of the bill. The manager never came out. This is a really great family style italian restaurant that deserves more love! Most decent italian food in OC are pretty expensive, kind of nice but also not really fine dining. I love that this place is no frills family style American italian food- cheap, huge portions, and great food. Their BBQ chicken pizza was, to my surprise, my favorite item here. The chicken tastes like it was freshly baked/ cooked in sauce and hand pulled, so there's flavor throughout and not just coated in bbq sauce. Their marinara & meat sauce are also great. Their best thing though, is the homemade garlic ranch, sooooooo garlicky and great. I think about that ranch all the time. I'm not a huge pasta person and I still enjoyed the chicken parm carbonara & all the fried appetizers I've tried here. read more

It's a great one if you want a cheap lunch. I can't think a reason to reject a deal like this. The meat sauce is good and the salad is great with Italian sauce. Solid Pizza! The deals are also really fantastic but it is best to explore visiting them during Happy Hour! Oh yeah! Happy Hour everyday from 3-6pm or something like that! Killer Deals! Stellar service! They feed you like a Trojan! Platters of food and then Monday night it is all you can eat Spaghetti! now that is ridiculous! Why even cook and bother! Just come over! So good! Being "many years" customers to this place, we were finally done tonight! Even, after returning from about a year ago's encounter whereas that night, after I noticed, as I stood patiently standing outside the door to their tiny, solitaire, scruffy, little bathroom, whereas I could hear (through its thin walks) the toilet flush. And then, immediately, the door thrust opened, revealing the restaurants "main cook", who clearly had not taken even one second to "wash or sanitize" his hands and quickly rushed past me, over to a giant pot full of strained pre-cooked spaghetti, thrust both his hands into it to gather part of it for some dish he was in a hurry to prepare! Argh! So GROSS! Then tonight, (hoping that chef was gone!) we decided to return again. Excited about their "advertised Special"! Only to discover that 1/3 of the nights "Special" (a lasagne/Ravioli/Manicotti) dish, was not even available! "The Manicotti", as we were informed by our waiter Cameron, "has already run out"..... Looking around the small restaurant, there was only 2 other people... "Ran out? I asked. Thinking, was there a "huge rush" on Manicotti only? "Really?" I asked. "Yep! All gone! But you can have a little extra of the lasagne or ravioli if ya want!" "No, I really was looking forward to Manicotti" I said. So we asked our very young (16 years old?) waiter, "Cameron", who shared this news with us, if they could at least "extend" Happy Hour 15 minutes to make-up for the loss of no "Manicotti"? (Nice gesture? Right?) We got an instant "No".... So we asked to speak to the manager or owner, and also told "No". Anyway, we left the nearly "empty" (again, only 2 other customers) and decided to go to "Haus of Pizza" instead! Got my wine and my Manicotti! Pizza Del Oro got a giant "0" from us! Poor management, too young and immature staff (Cameron), horrible sanitary/health practices, and well, their advertised big "Special" not even available! (No Manicotti! Which was 1/3 of that Special!) Geeze! From now on, we dine only at "higher class" Italian restaurants! Why settle for less? read more

Had a date night with the boyfriend here and we were so satisfied!! Satisfied to the point where we felt sick on how full we were. We ordered the cheese stix and they were so BOMB. Super good dipped in their ranch which is legit the best ranch I have ever had. I ordered the shrimp fettuccini alfredo and it came with their minestrone soup which was all delicious! It also came with garlic bread but that was pretty bland not going to lie, i ended up taking it as leftovers and adding cheese at home which made it better. My boyfriend got a big slice of pizza which was also delicious! He also got the meatball spaghetti but didn't like the meatballs. We found this place on accident, after gaining a very hangry teenage boy. We were so pleasantly surprised by the decor. It was so clean and inviting. Our server was completely delightful and we were very impressed by the robust lunch menu. Our server suggested the GIANT slice punch combo, and she was NOT wrong! I've never seen such a gigantic piece of piping hot pizza in my life. The salad (get the Italian dressing over the ranch) was the perfect size and the drinks were constantly being refilled. The pizza was so good and so filling. We are big fans of small business restaurants, and we are more than thrilled with this find. We came here to grab some slices and watch the UCLA Gonzaga game. The server Nick was super nice and hooked us up with a prime booth. We got drinks and salads promptly and when the pizza came it was delicious with generous toppings and a crisp exterior on the crust.
