I realized my first review on this thing was mainly based on the two servers I didn't like. UPDATE--they don't work there anymore!! Service is still kinda crappy--mainly because of the layout of the place... My buddy yelled out three times "WATER.. PLEASE!!" and the girl ignored us... place isn't big and music's not that loud and place wasn't packed or anything, but the walls seem to echo back to our section and my friend's voice never got to travel to the server's area, so maybe she honestly didnt hear him. Their pizza and calazones are so big, they dont even fit in the boxes!!! Best home style Italian "restaurant". You cant fit more then 20 people in there at a time. Which i believe makes the most important factor in the food they make. The service is quick . I never had to ask for a refill. They don't leave you wondering where your food is. Simple, tasty salad is served promptly after your order (you can choose soup, i forgot what the choice was). Watching all the pizzas, pastas and calzones coming out, i found myself wishing i had changed my order. Once my beef tortellini and potato gnocchi with fried mozzarella came out, i was reaffirmed on why i picked it. It also made a delicious lunch the next day. This was my first time to the one here in Costa Mesa. I have been to the one in Huntington Beach as well. Both places are on the same page with the freshness of all their food and the low prices. Simple good italian food. Nothing fancy and has a ton of specials on a weekly schedule which are all great deals. I have basically tried everything on the menu and it's all pretty good my only complaints are that the pasta is a little over done and the cacciiatori is a really on the salty side. My Friday night fall/winter take-out standby. I love this place! My husband and I always call in and usually order the Eggplant Parm with Fried Mozzarella and Gnocchi with Marinara. The last two times I ordered, I received Chicken Parm instead of Eggplant Parm. I called, they apologized, and gave me a free slice of Tiramisu when I picked up the "right" order. The second time we received Shrimp Scampi instead of Shrimp Diavolo. We didn't call back, because we didn't want to go back that night. My advice, ask them to repeat your order on the phone and when you go to pick it up. Despite the hiccups above, I still come back again and again. We were thankful that this place is still going strong, We ordered quite a bit of food and the staff was friendly and efficient. I love the new curbside service. We ordered 4 sandwitches, a salad and a large special pizza. My only complaint was that my meatball sandwich had a few meatballs that were burnt. I would go back and try another time though because the rest of the food was amazing. The special pizza was absolutely amazing. The crust is the best part and i don't normally enjoy crust. Not to bad just the crust is a bit to much and doughy. The cheese and pepperoni is good, so are the olives.

The "salad" was iceberg lettuce, a small amount of carrot shavings, and some paper-thin tomato slices. The chianti was second-rate, not smooth like good, and admittedly somewhat rare, chianti. The Eggplant parmigiana was mushy and parsimonious (small amount), but I liked the deep fried mozzarella (an add-on that was actually larger than the main dish) and their traditional ITALIAN-American, thankfully non-acidic, marinara sauce. The service was adequate, it was busy and a little frantic. The price was right. It's probably a good place for a family with children to go for some inexpensive Italian food. There's lots of variety. Red & White checkered table cloths (my favorite). Pro football playing on the LCD. Not noisy. read more

I'm from Philly and it's so hard to find good pizza out here in OC like we have on the east coast. Their pizza is delicious and we drive about 25 mins just to order from here. Also what impresses me even more is all the precautions they are taking with Covid to keep themselves and all their customers safe!!! They even have one bucket of clean pens and one bucket for used pens so multiple people aren't touching the same ones. All the workers have been really nice and friendly as well. I haven't eaten there yet, still waiting for my bf to come back...but already I don't like this place. The link attached to their name leads you to a website that apparently is completely incorrect and old. A. They don't deliver. B. The prices of the oven baked subs are all too low, I assume the rest of the menu isn't correctly priced either. C. They don't have mini cannolis anymore...they stopped making those. If you bother having a website, bother to update it. In this day and age...your website is your first impression. Its where people go to decide if they are going to use your services. I'll edit this once my chicken parm sub gets here. PS: the chicken parm was ok, but dry. Either they left them sitting under a heat lamp or on the pizza oven...the sauce was not to be found. PPS: after complaining about the website misdirections to the manager, he sent me an email with his apologies, said they are fixing up the website, that the downloadable menus are correct. They only deliver catering orders and that there will be a free slice of pizza waiting for me whenever I walk in. Now that is good customer service. read more

We've been customers since 2004. I love their choice of music (usually classic rock). Their flat screen is always on ESPN. The food isn't amazing but it doesn't taste horrible either. This spot is more about quantity over quality. They still cook the pizzas in an oven (which I love), rather than slap it on a conveyor belt and run it through. It's got great family specials and daily specials. I highly recommend the giant slice of pizza or the calzone if you have a monstrous appetite. I have always wanted to try their terrimasu but I've never finished a meal there. I would take it to go but terrimasu is best when it's cold. read more

This place was open till 10:00 and happy to serve us 15 minutes before closing. Ordered 2 pizzas and they were bigger than we expected and the 8 of us couldn't even finish it. If you like thick crust this is the place for you. I am not a regular reviewer on yelp but when you have such a positive experience from a place you found on yelp you gotta let people know. When they found out we were taking it back to our hotel he made sure we had what we needed without me asking for a thing - plates, knife, crushed pepper, Parmesan, napkins. Decided to try this place after reading reviews on yelp. When we pulled up to it and parked we were hesitant because it is located between a tattoo parlor and a pawn shop. My husband & I decided to still give them a try. The inside is very welcoming and authentic. The service was great and the food was amazing! Started out with fried zucchini which was a good portion and were good. I had the fettuccine with pink sauce which was good and wife had the veggie lasagna which she liked. Pizza D'Oro has some of the best, most authentic pizza on the west coast. A large take out pizza is such a monster it spills out the sides of the box. My last two visits I've had the meat lovers pizza which is covered with every meat imaginable but somehow doesn't seem heavy. It's a perfect balance of sauce, crust and toppings. The meatballs and sausage are incredible while I found the ham to have a smoky, overwhelming taste that didn't mesh with the rest. Back in high school I was introduced to Pizza D'oro in HB. I remembered the salad being simple, but amazing. 8 years later, for nostalgic reasons (and competing with a friend for knowing a pizza place that makes a really good salad), I decided to stop by. Good as ever. I had him beat. A few weeks later, another friend said we should go to this pizza place with the same name. Who knew there was one close by to where I'm now living. Recommendations: Salad: Get it with peppercinis on the side. If you don't like your salad drenched, as for the dressing on the side. I always get their ranch though I saw a review that suggested mixing Italian with ranch which I will definitely try. Family special: AMAZING price. I get it almost every time (unless it's all you can eat lasagna night...then the lasagna wins). It's enough food for 2 people for 3 days. At around $24, you can't cook food at home for cheaper. All you can eat lasagna: For roughly $7 you get lasagna, small side salad, and garlic bread. I don't know how they charge this price, but I couldn't make this at home for this price. If you do get this, don't take your second plate of lasagna home. I don't want them to A) raise their prices or B) abolish this deal because people are too cheap. Thanks Pizza D. Haven't been to Pizza D in 10 years, not even exaggerating. This place is as delicious as always with the same amazing lunch specials I remember when I was in High School. Got the big slice and it was plenty of food. The food isn't what gives it the 5 stars though. It's the service! Nick is as good as it gets when it comes to serving, always refilled waters and drinks, seemed like he knew every person who walked in by name, you just can't find service like that anymore, he told me this was like a second home to him and I felt like I was at home!
