Paul is an amazing owner! Once you step in you feel like you're part of the family. This has been a family business for over 40 years and they are part of the community. Classic whole in the wall pizza shop that warm and welcoming. Pizza was delicious. One of the few spots that the slices of pizza are made to order. None of that pizza sitting in a glass case for 3 years. Fresh made to order pizza here! I recommend making the stop here.

This Gem of a pizzeria is located in the Heart of Bernal Heights on Cortland Ave! Their pizza they serve is absolute Top Tier quality and delicious! All fresh ingredients and perfectly baked dough! Place is kept very clean compared to other spots in the city! Thank you Paul and staff for the quick and amazing service and pizza!

Can't speak for the service cuz the girls always nice over the phone. But Idk what happend to these guys they used to be so good. Now the cheese just falls right off the slice.

I was working 3 minutes away and knew that there was a familiar pizza joint in the Bernal heights neighborhood. I had never been here in person, but I used to work somewhere that ordered from here often back in 2018. As I sat waiting for my large pizza to be ready, I had some banter with the workers. They said that they have been the same owners for over 40 years now. With that said, I knew that I was gonna be biting into a good pizza pie. I wasn't the only one that was making small talk with the staff. A few others that came to pick up their orders were having the same relaxed conversation about the pizza and their everyday life as if they were long time friends catching up. You gotta love it, this business is clearly ran on quality food, service and respect from the community. Now for the pizza.. I was trying to share with 2 other people so a large was just enough to get the job done. Plenty hot and full of flavor. Lastly, the ambiance was that of a classic old school pizza joint. Strictly business with a couple of tables. I'm glad this place survived the pandemic and hope they stay in business for another 40 years.

We had delivery of medium size pizza with sausage, pepperoni and pineapple; along with buffalo wings. Both were DELICIOUS.

I've been ordering from this place for the last 8 to 9 years. It's always been good. last few times including last night I was sent a warmed over pizza that was burned, the cheese was congealed and the crust was hard. I'm old enough to know what a reheated old pizza looks like. Heres a few pictures. They sent a fresh one which was good. I am not gonna order from this joint anymore.

Wow, great pizza - their large 18" was gigantic and packed! It was good and full of toppings! Delivery was fast - on time to Barebottle right down the street! It worked out well! We got takeout from the restaurant, and it is a very cute neighborhood! I would stop by again! It is tucked away like a treasure chest in the heart of SF.

Peperoni, bacon and chicken pizza were a hit with a bunch of guys. All agreed it was decent for the price and in terms of taste for a quick pizza delivery. Very basic pizza's with a thick crust but you can certainly add more toppings if you wish for an additional fee. The pizza arrived hot with melted cheese (that wasn't chewy or rubbery). So for a fast food joint, ordered via Grubhub this should be a staple for everyone. read more

This is the neighborhood pizza place and OMFG we are so lucky to have them. They're pizza is so good - I especially LOVE LOVE LOVE their tomato sauce. Like if you're a sauce person when it comes to anything this is the place to go. Always hot and fresh, big slices. It's family owned and the owners are so friendly we love them. During the quarantine they gave out DIY pizza kits to the kids in the neighborhood (on the house). That was so nice! Just an example of how familial and neighborhoody they are lol. Order from them - guarantee you'll be happy. We always are! (PS: ask for extra pizza sauce to dip in to... drool I'm like thinking of it's garlicky goodness right now :) read more

Super good pizza. This is definitely the place to go when you want a quick bite of pizza or pizza delivery. We've had mushroom, italian, etc but the best thing on the menu is definitely the Cortland special. Super fast to order on the phone. Happy to see it's still up for business for delivery during this quarantine! read more

Great local place for me. Also good prices and they do their own delivery so you don't have to pay a premium for it. When I call in to order they already have my number and address on file which speeds up the ordering process. Pizza is always delivered under the projected time and brought to my doorstep. Only reason I gave 4 stars is because sometimes the pizza is very greasy but that's nothing a paper towel over the top can't take care of. I always order from this place if I'm in the mood for pizza. read more

We just moved to the neighborhood and this was our first time trying pizza express. We got it delivered even though we're only about a five minute drive down the hill - the warriors are on! Delivery guy was super nice and called me when he was here. After he passed over my large pizza and two liter I DROPPED THE ENTIRE PIZZA FACE DOWN ON MY PORCH! I was more embarrassed than upset about the pizza really, and just scooped it all back into the box and said it's ok it ok, we will still eat it! Poor delivery guy was apologizing so much, though it was completely my fault. Anyway we actually DID start eating the porch pizza. It was maybe a little gritty but not too terrible. 15 minutes later the delivery guy is back! And he has a BRAND NEW PIZZA for us! Can't believe how nice he was. Big Thanks to him and the rest of the staff as well. I assume they're pretty busy on a playoff game night, and maybe if I didn't live so close we wouldn't get so lucky, but WOW! I'm a person who doesnt trust reviews. If I see one negative I usually skip a place so that makes it really hard for me to choose anything. I didn't want to choose this place but im glad I did. It was so tasty. Crust -soft yet firm but fluffly enough that the crust is like soft toasted bread. Cheese great tasting with the right amount of gooeyness Toppings Pepperonis were tasty not burnt at all and the pesto sauce was great mixed with the red sauce. I ordered extra peperoni so they definitely didnt skimp there. Lots of topping. Well they tried. I'll start with the bad and leave you with the good: Bad: I repeatedly asked for "black" olives. I got green (don't get me wrong, green olives rock - sometimes!). You should get what you ask for, or be told they don't have what you want. I asked for ranch on the side and it wasn't delivered. One tiny pack of Parmesan cheese. Really? No peppers and just the one packet of cheese. Skimp much? Lastly, there was a LOT of exposed crust. The sauce and cheese made it about 3/4 on the pizza. The good: The crust was tasty, the cheese was good. Overall: BAD. Pay attention and deliver a good pizza. Otherwise, no repeat business read more

Did a pick up order of a small cheese pizza on Sunday evening. Came to about $13-14. I liked the pizza, was quite good. The tomato sauce was different than other pizza spots in SF, darker and not as tangy, but I could tell the sauce was seasoned well. I think it could have used more sauce, but cheese was a good amount. They have nice tasting parm cheese on side. Crushed red pepper were good. read more

I didn't have that issue so again it's all about preferences. They also, offer non alcoholic beer!

The food itself didn't quite meet expectations based on the reviews. One of our pizzas also came out slightly undercooked, but the kids were too tired for us to send it back and wait for a remake, so we just made do. Overall, the experience was just okay, especially compared to other pizza spots we tried during our trip. After visiting places like Tony's, which we loved, this one fell short for us. The restaurant was busy and had a decent energy, and others may have a better experience depending on timing. For us, though, it's not a place we'd return to.

The roasted tomatoes are key...depth of flavor, umami-heaven. I'm a pain in the ass, so I call to make sure my pizza is made to spec. The staff, led by Kait, is unparalleled in their willingness to help. I just cannot recommend Gioia enough. I wish there were one in the 925, but Berkeley is as close to my home as a Gioia is based so far. I've not had a pie from Berkeley, but I believe Gioia is completely committed to maintaining the quality of their pizza. Nothing else comes close IMO. I know there's no zealot like a convert...but I'm not just being a fan boy. Oh yeah...the arugula-avocado salad is YUM, and the dressing for it like crack. DO not forget to check the box for utensils. I did not...California is a request the utensils state...and that's how I know how committed Gioia is to customer service: Kait, CALLED ME today after she'd heard I was frustrated. On a busy Friday night, they ran out of cheese and a few other options for a while since they were so busy churning out whole pies to go. I get 2-3 slices (they're big but thingdepending on how hungry I am. $4.75 for cheese, and $5.75 for all other toppings. Out of the couple times I've been, Pepperoni Mushroom has been my favorite slice mostly due to how flavorful it is, followed by Cheese/Plain, then lastly the Julian (red pepper, onion, mushroom) which I found didn't have enough tomato sauce for my liking. My friend tried the Tomato Garlic and didn't like it much, maybe just because there wasn't any tomato sauce.

I don't normally order these because they are hard to cook correctly but they are perfect here. Scallion Noodles: Not too oily and nice al dente noodles, it looks plain but tastes amazing. Dumplings: We got the XLB, spicy chili wonton appetizer, shrimp and squash, numb and spicy XLB, and pan fried dumplings. All of these were good but the ones I will remember are the numb and spicy XLB and the pan fried dumplings. The pan fried dumplings are more bite sized and easier to eat than normal. They look cute and I felt less soup is wasted. If you like mildy spicy and numbing the XLB is unique and so good I had to help finish off the last one even though I was full.

I grew up in this neighborhood and have been coming here for over 35 years. It's changed owners many times but I've supported over the years. Unfortunately, tonight is my last night. I watched the staff refuse to practice any kind of sanitary protocols and to add insult to injury this staff are racist Anti- black people. On Halloween night they treated black kids horribly!!! A young black hit came in with $4 for a slice of cheese and they told him tonight the price is $5. He told them he only had $4 and they began making fun of him and laughed him out of the store. Then two black teenage girls came in asking for a plastic to trick or treat and one man said try don't have plastic bags and the other said we only have one. I offered to pay for the other bag and they ignored me. A white woman asked them to give them the bag and they did. These people are disgusting!!! read more

I've been going to Pizza Express for about 30 years, since I was a kid, and it's still my favorite pizza place. The pizza is just really good, and honestly I haven't found anywhere else that comes close. You can tell they actually care about what they're doing. They chop all their vegetables fresh every morning -- I see it -- and it makes a difference. The people there are a big reason I keep coming back. The employees are always respectful and friendly, and the customer service is great every single time. Paul, the owner, has been there forever and does an amazing job running the place. He makes sure the quality stays high and that the staff treats people right. This is my go‑to spot for pizza. Even if I'm not in San Francisco, I'll go out of my way to stop here. I ordered pizza for delivery from this place and they delivered the wrong pizza. I called to have the right pizza delivered, and i said they could pick up the old pizza. Sadly, I spoke to a rude customer service woman over the phone who acted like she owned the place. She expected me to take the old pizza back and pick up a new one despite the pizza being a delivery and the mix-up being their own fault. She was not helpful and offered no apology. She even sounded mad at me as a customer for having the nerve to rectify their mistake. I had to contact Grughub to get a refund. Not a good experience at all. read more

This review is for the service not the pizza. Service is important. I went in just to get a salad. Woman was on the phone and when she took my order of a salad instead of getting me my salad she went ahead and took another phone call. I mentioned to her that I was ahead of the person on the phone but she ignored me and continued to take the phone order. When another employee entered the room she asked him to make my salad. Pizza express is the best pizza I've ever eaten. Everything's prepared fresh. Dough is made daily each morning,vegetables cut daily, and they grade there own cheese, all that I've witnessed myself. Sauce is delicious and they have the best tasting dough. If your in the area and want something delicious to eat come here. They also don't charge for delivery so that's a plus.
