For seventeen years, I have been the self-appointed Sultan of Slices, driving my son to every reputable pizza joint in the area and essentially telling him what "good" tasted like.  It was a hard job, but somebody had to do it, may as well be his Dad right? But apparently, the student has become the master. My son hit up Jet's Pizza in McKinney yesterday and came home claiming he'd had "the best pizza of his life." Now, at 17, his opinions are legally his own, but as the man who funded his palate for nearly two decades, I had to put this bold claim to the test. If he was wrong, I'd have to revoke his "pizza-picking privileges" indefinitely. I walked in and ordered the Super Special: a heavy-duty combination of pizza sauce, premium mozzarella, pepperoni, ham, mushrooms, onions, and green peppers. The Verdict: I hate to admit it, mostly because it means my son is actually growing up and making sound life choices, but the kid was right. The crust had that perfect crisp-yet-airy texture that makes you forget about your fitness goals entirely. The toppings were delicious, the cheese didn't mess around, and the combination of ham and pepperoni on the Super Special provided a salt-to-sauce ratio that is frankly dangerous for anyone with a lack of self-control. It was very, very good. In fact, it was "I'm-not-even-mad-that-my-teenager-is-smarter-than-me" good.  I may have to get this kid a YELP account!! To Jet's Pizza, thanks for the great meal. I asked to have them separated as i saw her stacking both of them on top of eachother. The employee literally closed the box, told me NO, and handed me gloves & a box so I could do it myself. I explained that I was asking her to simply put it in a different box , but apparently that was too much to ask since they' were busy but only 3 tables were there and i had already waited 25 mins & i should've "told her before i ordered" . I ordered the Large Famous Thin Pepperoni with a well done bake, and the first thing that stood out was the pepperoni. They definitely live up to the "edge to edge" claim. Every bite had plenty of pepperoni, and it had a great crispy texture and really good flavor. The cheese blend was different from your typical pizza, and I actually liked it. It gave the pizza its own unique taste. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because I think the well done bake ended up being a little too much. The edge pieces were nice and crispy, which is exactly what I wanted, but as I got into the center of the pizza, the bottom crust had quite a few burn marks and started to leave a burnt aftertaste. I honestly think that took what could have easily been an 8.5 or 9 out of 10 pizza and brought it down for me. I also tried the Family Recipe Meatballs. The cheese on top was delicious, but the meatballs themselves were a little too salty for my taste, and the texture wasn't my favorite, so I probably wouldn't order those again. That said, I'd absolutely come back. Next time I'll skip the well done bake because I think the Famous Thin is probably crispy enough on its own. The pizza has a lot of potential, and I'm looking forward to giving it another shot.
