As a long time costumer, I just want to say that I appreciate having a place like Pizza Amoré here in Albany. I find myself having lunch there about twice a month and I've made my way around the menu several times. I've had pasta, pizza, salads, and everything else. My go to lunch favorite is the Greek Chicken salad, but I have been known to stare at the menu hoping something might be different. The way I see Pizza Amoré is like this: PLACING AN ORDER: the lunch counter style ordering is fine as long as it's not busy. When they do get a rush you wind up standing for a while usually next to a table of people eating. I've never been keen on self serve plates and silverware -kinda icky to me-. FOOD: always solid and consistent. Almost to the point of too consistent. As a former East Coaster I will not make any comparisons, but I will say that I think they make a good pie (especially the five cheese). I always see a army of people in the back working dough and that leaves me feeling better than the pizzas that would arrive to my door in a box, and yes the garlic nots are little bites of garlicky goodness. DRINKS: big thumbs up for Pizza Amoré here. They always have a few decent beers on tap and they have great Willamette Valley wines to chose from (local means a lot to me). I don't want to sound like I'm tearing them down but I am hard on restaurants that I like. If I didn't like them I wouldn't waste my time reviewing them. The one thing I truly crave from Pizza Amoré is to take the love and funkiness that is apparent and rework the menu. The "solid and consistent" is probably my way of saying boring. The menu hasn't changed in years. The "limited time" bacon garlic nots have been available for well over a year. If I could, I would challenge Pizza Amoré to take the menu, look at every ingredient and really step it up. I've been around kitchens for a long time and I know what is SYSCO. I also know, with the army if employes present, how easy it would be to have everything fresh. From the cheese to the olives put your spin on more then the assembly. Test you cooks to think outside the box and let's see at least a daily special. What I'm saying is our relationship is like a marriage. I was blown away at first but our love life has gotten monotones and I'm needing you to spice it up or I may go trolling to fill the void. read more

Another girl came over and reduced it to 26.50 I still questioned the price and she said it was extra toppings and a 2.00 charge for a drizzle of bbq sauce . Waaaaay to salty ... they tried to make up for it by giving us a free pizza which was the right thing to do, however the free one ended up in the garbage for the same reason. I believe it's the crust having to much salt or garlic. Won't go back. read more

The breadsticks are absolutely amazing! They're little balls of dough, garlic, parmesan, butter and happiness. The pizza is delicious, cooked to perfection. It's a very thick crust, which can very easily be undercooked and doughy. But this doesn't happen here. They always cook it right. Which impresses me. Their food is just as good reheated the following day too. I recommend you heat the pizza in the oven instead of the microwave just because of the crust being so thick and to keep the consistency of it. The restaurant is always clean and well maintained. I've never seen it dirty or tables with plates stacked up. The service is fine, I've never had a problem there. I don't think anyone goes above and beyond their job description, but they don't hate it there or act like you're an inconvenience. I have been here a few times and I have to say this is the best pizza I have tried out here in Albany. The pizza is garlicky perfection. It is a mixture of great pizza and crust that tastes like garlic bread. The crust is fluffy just how I like it. I have also ordered to go and the pizza tastes just as good as if it was hot out of the oven. The restaurant is very clean and the staff are friendly. My husband and I had been traipsing through Oregon for the previous 24 hours, having finally endeavored to visit Crater Lake. As we headed toward home, we were starving, and I'm always up for pizza. Meshing together Around Me and Yelp reviews on the iPhone, we decided to pull into PizzAmore and give it a shot. Upon entering, you're washed in the most wonderful smell of garlic and butter. Oh, that's promising. As lovers of bread, especially when slathered in butter and dipped in marinara, we ordered six garlic rolls. They are small little balls of dough, dipped in garlic butter and peppered with parmesan cheese. (The bottom of the basket gathers a slick yummy mess of butter soaked parmesan. Not that we licked it up with our fingers or anything. That would just be... okyeahwedidit.) Our wait for our pizza wasn't long. The Amoré Combo arrived and it looked good, smelled good and had a nice distribution of toppings. I agree with Chuck; the sauce tasted oddly familiar... a somewhat thin sauce with a touch of vinegar... indeed it could have been Ragu! However, the marinara that had been served with our garlic rolls was quite different, and better. *shrug* As usual, we should have ordered extra sauce; what is it with places here in the PNW that just pass a spoon of sauce over the crust leaving a dry smear, and not a nice layer of moist, rich sauce? Our pie had enough bones left for dipping in the marinara. The crust was flavorful with just enough substance... just a little chew is how I like it. I wouldn't call this New York Style, necessarily. The crust isn't flat enough, has a bit more rise and pockets, and the toppings certainly don't make this a foldable slice. Overall we were really pleased. I'd stop by on the way through again and try other offerings, too. The one downside... the dining room was really quite un-well kept. Our table was sticky, and the floors were a disaster. Even if it had been a busy Saturday, there was no excuse for food strewn on the floor (and not just in one spot). When we were there, there was just one other table eating in, a group of six, and plenty of staff behind the counter. Most were under 20, however, and not an adult in sight so perhaps they need a bit more management support during the weekends in the store! We had no problems with our "order at the counter service," but as I waited back up at the counter for something, someone who was getting a carryout order alerted the girl that he'd been overcharged. From what I heard him order and the amount she told him, it sounded like he'd been overcharged. She tried to explain to them how their sales tape detailed things... but it didn't even make sense to her, yet she was still arguing with the man that he had not been overcharged. They went round and round a bit and finally she went to ask someone else to explain it and indeed he was overcharged. How can that be so hard? That, the dirty floor, and plus being charged $0.75 for a bit of marinara for dipping the garlic rolls in knocks them down to four stars in my pizza-loving book. Paid 49.95 for a 20" 4 topping pizza. Should be $$$ listed not any less, especially since the toppings were sparse and didn't go to the edge of the pie. As someone who has spent a number of years working in a pizza place myself, it is clear that the idea is that you are paying for the flavor. That's all well and good. Just keep in mind you are going to spend a lot of money for a pie that tastes good but lacks actual complete content. Whatever you do don't get the large pies. It's a ripoff. read more

We tried PizzAmore last night for the first time since moving back 3 years ago. Our go to pizza place is closed on Tuesdays, so we decided to try it out. OMG! This pizza was soooo delicious! We got the thin crust, and a 2 topping half and half with light sauce. It was cooked to perfection, and everything just tasted amazing - the cheese, sauce, toppings, everything! The only negative is the price, we thought $29.50 seemed high for a 16" two topping half and half, but we had it delivered, so maybe that's why it was more? It also took what felt like a long time. We ordered it at 4, and it arrived at 5:30, but the person on the phone did tell us that would be the estimated time. So we knew that ahead of time. It was worth the wait, and so yummy! Ok, let me start off by saying this is my favorite pizza in the area over the years. Five stars for taste! Always so good. However, their pricing..! Yikes what has happened? I got a medium pizza, build your own. Granted it was like five toppings and a side of garlic knots- over fifty bucks ! Sticker shock. It IS good, but not $50 good. We ordered takeout over the weekend for just my fiancé and I and holy cow! A large pizza was waaayyy bigger than I thought it'd be and made for plenty of leftovers! Ordered two slices of Pizza Amore. They were fantastic! The rest of the experience was underwhelming. Waited 25 minutes. Finally asked if our slices were coming, and they were handed to us. Who knows how long they were sitting. Went to get a fork, no clean forks. Restaurant wasn't even half full. Was told some were being washed. 20 minutes later, still no clean forks. The bomb! We ordered a pizza over the phone while we were at the check out at Fred Meyer and it was ready by the time we got there. The garlic nots are so good and evening better if you need to ward off vampires. They have ANCHOVIES and the have an amazing homemade Italian. Only thing I would change is the croutons on the salad. We didn't intend to go to PizzAmore today. Our first destination, Love Love Teriyaki, is closed on Sundays. So sad! So we debated what to do - and decided to try something new. Dominic and I are both big pizza fans. I'd read good things about PizzAmore on Yelp and a few other sites, so was excited to go. But would it be pizza that could contend with our current favorite - Ciddicis? We were pleasantly surprised at the breadth of the menu. Not only could you order pizza (and by the slice too!) but there was a good selection of grinder sandwiches,pasta dishes, and specialty salads as well. After some debate, I went with the lasagna for 8.95 and Dominic chose a 12" Hawaiian pizza for 9.95. We both chose the "refillable" drinks (a whopping 32oz?!). They were 2.25 - a little steep for soda, but we didn't end up actually needing a refill. The service was bright and friendly. The restaurant itself is comfortable - Nothing fancy, nothing too old and grimy. The place was pretty full - several tables taken up by one group. My dinner was served with salad and garlic rolls. Let me just tell you -for 8.95, the lasagna could have come from a frozen box, and it'd still be a deal. The salad was very good - simple iceburg lettuce, with tomatos, cheese, croutons and olives. The garlic rolls (6 of them!) were pizza dough in a knot, topped with a very garlicky parmesan mix. Dominic pronounced them as having too much garlic... I thought they were just fine. My lasagna arrived piping hot a few moments after I finished my salad. The piece was about 4" square, and about 2" tall. The marinara was a really nice tart sauce - I approved! The lasagna proved to be laying on its side - and had about 5 layers of noodles, with just the right amount of cheesy goodness & ricotta. Overall - I liked it a lot. I finished it (and now, I'm feeling ready to waddle). My husband liked his pizza. He said he particularly liked the pineapple and the canadian bacon. The crust looked hand tossed (which it was) and just a smidge thicker than "thin crust" style. I didn't try any. One note here: There was yet more of the garlic parmesan topping on the pizza, in the sauce, and on the crust. When we go again, we'll order the pizza without all of the garlic. (I approve, but Dom isn't a fan). I asked him how it compared to some of the other pizza in Albany and Corvallis. He said it was probably closer to Cirellos in Corvallis than anything. Since he seems to really like that pizza - I'd say our experiment in lunch was a success! :) To sum up: Good prices, good tastes, good serving sizes, good service, and apparently, will even be offering delivery in the near future. I'm reviewing this place as someone who grew up in the pizza capital of the country (Scranton, PA) where there are pizza styles from New York style to Old Forge style and everything in between. There are close to 100 pizza places in city and surrounding metro area. As such, I have some high standards for pizza. In fact, I have yet to find anything in the Corvallis area that I would actually call good pizza. That said, PizzAmore has what is the closest to New York style as you're going to get here. The crust is pretty good and they have a nice variety of toppings and specialty recipes. They have several sauces to choose from for your pizza, but they really aren't that great, especially the red sauces. The standard pizza sauce tastes bitter to me, and the marinara sauce is bland once it's on the pizza - probably because it's thinner than pizza sauce. This is really unfortunate, because the sauce is one of the defining features of a pizza, and the poor-tasting sauces really drag down the pizza to the same level as Domino's (and honestly, I think Domino's has better pizza sauce). The pizza is also outrageously overpriced (but it seems like that's what all of the local pizza places do). Having worked at a pizza place in the past, I can tell you that pizzas are very cheap to make when using wholesale ingredients. These pizzas are priced as if we were in NYC - but we're definitely not. The fancier sauces and topping do cost more - but if you've ordered from PizzAmore before, then you know that those premium toppings cost more than the regular ones (and they cost ridiculously more). If the pizza tasted amazing, I wouldn't mind paying so much. However, it tastes only marginally better than Domino's and I can get that for half the price. Drinks are also way overpriced. Save your money and stop at a convenience store on the way to pick up your pizza if you're getting takeout. On the plus side, the garlic rolls are awesome. So I do recommend this place - it does have the best pizza in Albany. However, if you're from the east coast, you're going to be very disappointed. read more

Fun little pizza place with BIG flavor. We have stopped in quite a few times. Enjoyed several of the pizzas - always good and plenty of fresh toppings. The salads are HUGE and the Caesar dressing is yummy. The garlic knots will keep you safe from vampires for days - lovely bread knots with butter, garlic and Parmesan. The sandwiches are good too! The pizza is pretty tasty with lots of toppings (although not evenly spread throughout -- like majority of the olives were on 1/4 of the whole pizza), but i definitely think it's overpriced. The salad that my friend and I ordered was good with lots of toppings. The homemade caesar dressing was so tasty -- definitely not the creamy texture that you're used to seeing from store bought. I think you get some garlic knots with a purchase of a salad. My friend and I split a single size order of salad and it was just the right amount. The garlic knots are probably my fave cause it was super buttery, garlicky and just the right amount of doughy -- 10/10 would recommend the garlic knots haha read more

Do not let the locals gas this place up. Save $20 ish dollars and just order dominos or Pizza Hut. I was in town for a night and I let the good reviews persuade me. The pizza was pretty bland. Expensive!!!!! Wow be careful of what extra topping you get. They were up to $6 each for a large. It would of been nice for the kid behind the cash register to let me know that. We felt we got a true large pizza. So what did we not like- the sauce has a weird flavor. Had an ok amount of toppings but the extra topping I added were not $6 worth. The pizza dough had good flavor but the sauce ruined it. I am going to assume the sauce is not homemade. The search for good pizza anywhere in the willamette valley continues. A large half cheese and veggie with extra roasted garlic and artichokes and a 2 liter bottle of soda cost $50. We will not be coming back. read more
