My quest for veg-friendly gluten free cuisine has hit GOLD! Went on a lil self date this past Sunday to Pizzolis and was not disappointed. I ordered the roasted eggplant pizza on a gluten free crust and added anchovies because that is just how I roll, ya dig? I was served out on the patio, the pizza comes with a lil cutter which was cute and was loaded with toppings. Absolutely awesome. I have been going to Pizzoli's since I moved into the neighborhood almost four years ago. Overall, the food is higher quality than typical take-out places. The pizzas are a bit pricier than at the chain restaurants, but you get what you pay for - the ingredients are much higher quality and the combinations they offer are delicious (I'm a huge fan of the roasted red pepper & portobello mushroom one). I also regularly get the chicken cheesesteak, which is delicious. The french fries are excellent, too. I also really like the people at Pizzoli's. They are friendly, and they always ask me how I am doing and chat with me while I wait for my food. The character of a place means a lot to me, and I always get treated kindly when I go in. Okay-quality pizza. The relative cheapness balances out the bad service. I order from here occasionally because it's nearby, but I would prefer taking my business to another pizza place because they've been rude and/or messed up my order three out of three times. Don't get banana peppers on the side; they will charge you $2.50. Every other pizza place in the universe (except for perhaps those on a remote planet full of cheap business-owners) gives them to you for free. read more

I tried their portobello mushroom pizza, and it was quite tasty. I ordered delivery through Foodlery (http://www.foodler.com/ref/7581733/DC/Washington/Pizza/Pizzolis-Pizzeria/10606.html). I opted for the thin crust which was crisp and crunchy (but not too hard), and the toppings were fresh and plentiful. Delivery was fast, and they deliver pretty late which is awesome. STOP DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS PLACE! ! So we are on vacation staying at a hotel and decided to stay in New Years day and order pizza first sign that I shouldn't have ordered from this place was the horrible rude person on the phone. After 15 min I placing my order of $45 the delivery driver wanted me to go down to the street and pick it up from him because "he didn't think the hotel would let him come up". After assuring him he could the food finally arrives and the pizza had no freaking flavor, the chicken wings were a bucket of oil with chicken flouting in it and the desserts seemed that they were thrown around. I guess they also assumed you eat cake with your fingers while staying in a hotel. Stand at the counter and the girl behind the counter doesn't take her face out of the computer to say hi, bye or anything. I love Pizzolis. I live in the neighborhood and order from them all the time. I'm a pain because I customize - "can you make that without this...?" or "can I have that salad, but instead of this can you put that on it?" - extremely annoying I imagine. But instead of getting frustrated, these guys just say "yeah sure we can do that" but even more importantly they know me now, know my favorites and how I like them prepared (which is one of the great things about neighborhood restaurants), but more importantly everything I've ordered from them is really just tasty goodness. The manager looked me up in their order database, matched my name to the name on my order, and called me after I wrote the first review. I was very creeped out, and frankly a little afraid of what he was going to say. Instead, he offered me a free pizza. It was much better. Then he contacted me again to ask me to write a new review. I was pretty upset that he kept looking up my phone number and calling me without my permission. It felt like a violation of my privacy. However, the pizza and the service were much better this time, so I'm posting a new review like he asked me to. Be prepared that if you eat here and post a bad review, you'll be hounded by the management by phone. However, it does appear that they're trying very hard to improve the quality of their food and service, so I have to give them credit for that. read more

Great little carry out place. I ordered the pepperoni Stromboli and it was very good. Good amount of pepperoni and cheese and a generous portion of sauce. I have had their pizzas a few times and they have always been good, not great but better then dominos or anything like that. It doesn't beat Italian Pizza Kitchen on U, but its closer so it wins on the convenience. Beware, the late night pizzas (if you just walk in after a late night at the bars) are all just re-heated ones made earlier in the day. No surprise, but good to know. read more

Food here is very tasty, the employees are nice and food is ready quickly. It's a couple dollars more expensive than some other places for pizza and calzones but it's not a chain so not surprising. The one irritating thing is that prices are not clearly labeled anywhere on their website so you can't tell what prices are for anything unless you go get a paper menu from the store. If they fix the website this could be a 5 star place. Also FYI it's a hole in the wall with a few outdoor tables, so mostly for takeout. read more

Fast. Efficient. Delicious. Twice I have walked in for pickup. Twice I've enjoyed my pizza. Called ahead today and they had it ready when I walked in 30 minutes later. Today, had a pesto margarita and this was really the best pizza I have had in recent memory. Perfectly light and crispy crust, delicious and complex flavors, and a freshness that is welcomed. This place is absolutely horrendous. From the delivery service to the pizza all just disgusting. I ordered one large pizza that was half hunger buster and half farmers market for a whopping $30.84. The pizza came and it was downright disgusting. grease was dripping off the pizza. It had no structure to it, as soon as you picked it up the whole thing fell apart. Not only did it look like crap it also tasted like crap. To add to this horrible experience, I ended up getting ripped off on the delivery price. It clearly stated on the receipt there was a $5 delivery service fee. Horrible customer service. Way too expensive. Take your business elsewhere. I ordered a large half and half specialty pizza for pick up. The person who took my order over the phone did not tell me the price, but I assumed it was $18.99 based on the website. The website does not say there is an added charge for a half and half pizza (nor should there be, as it is the same amount of ingredients). I sent my boyfriend over to pick it up and he came back saying, "wow, that was an expensive pizza!" When I called in to find out why it was $27.54, the person who I talked to simply said that there is a $5 charge for half and half and that it's always been that way. I explained that I had no notice of this, as a first time customer and that it was not posted on their website and that no one notified me of the up-charge. They said there was nothing they could do. If they would have simply refunded the $5 and apologized for the confusion, they wouldn't have just lost 2 customers. I got a call from the delivery driver letting me know he would be downstairs on a few minutes of I could meet him there. I have two little kids And I'm not dressed to be going out in public in front of my neighbors. So where I get that it's easier for you and saves you from having to take an elevator up a few flights. We ordered pizza from here at 1 am on a Saturday night, we got the pizza by 2 15 am. It was completely fine for drunken food pizza, and 5 girls pretty much finished it before crashing and going to bed. The driver was kind of annoyed- I can't say i blame him it was 2 am on a Saturday and he was delivering pies. The Store Manager was so RUDE !!! I wish there was a thumbs down option for this place. I ordered my food at 11:55 am and it did not arrive until a few minutes before 2pm. This was fine. Not great. Not awful. Just fine. We are in town for 24 hours and had a yen for pizza. So we ordered delivery to our hotel. It was easy to order online and delivery came pretty quickly. The large pizza was smaller than expected, but it met our needs. The crust was fine. The sauce was fine. The cheese was fine. Would I make it my regular pizza joint, probably not. Did it do the job? Sure did. The mozzarella sticks were gross. The coating was a strange texture. And the cheese hadn't melted at all. It was just a rectangular block. Definitely skip those. We stayed at a nearby hotel and were very happy to find this nice little pizza place for takeout. The meatball and falafel sandwiches were only ok. But the spicy fries and salad (with balsamic Italian dressing) were very good. And the hand made noodles/ spaghetti and meatballs were so great. Such a treat to have a tasty and reasonably priced meal. We didn't try the pizza but the three men each eating their own in the window looked quite happy- and the pizza smelled great. The hand tossed crust that they advertise was definately tossed somewhere, like the factory where it was made, but not in the store.
