Swung by PJ Sushi for a quick lunch and that's all the spot really offers: a spot for a quick bite. I would recommend sticking to to-go for this spot for affordable, average sushi. The interior gives off a dreary vibe as it is dimly lit with awkwardly spaced tables and clearly worn decor. They do have a very affordable menu, notably a lunch special from 11AM-3PM. I went with the tuna combo (8 tuna sushi, 4 salmon night) $10 and salmon sushi (6 nigiri) $6. Super super affordable... with fish quality and overall taste matching those expectations. The rice lacks the proper oiliness and softness of high quality sushi rice, and the fish was just alright. The lunch combo comes with a miso soup that was literally just liquid, no real seaweed or tofu... unless I got a weird bowl. Come on, at least throw some tofu in there! It's easy to pass this place because it lacks curb appeal and husband and wife (Burmese) owners can be nice one day and grumpy and curt the next. The interior is dingy and drab. About once a week, I get a craving for raw fish and rice, so it's pretty convenient that PJ Sushi is walking distance from my place (For those of you who are further out, there is a decent amount of parking in the rear, as well as meter parking in the front). First off, let's make sure everyone is coming in with the proper expectations. PJ Sushi is NOT your high-end, super authentic Japanese joint. Don't come in here expecting to sit at a sushi bar where you can order omakase from the itamae. But that's perfectly fine, since they don't pretend to be what they aren't. It's a place to get your sushi fix for not a whole lot of money, nothing more, nothing less. In my opinion, if the name PJ Sushi doesn't disarm any feelings of pretentiousness, the interior will. Sure, you have some token Japanese themed decorations like wall scrolls and fortune cat sculpture, but there's no getting around the bare-bones, no-nonsense feel inside. TV inside is showing the local news and some light FM station is playing in the background at a low volume. The menu features 52 different items, though the latter part of the menu is just different variations of sushi platters. The vast majority of sushi here is western style uramaki type sushi, though there are a few nigirizushi and makizushi rolls on the menu as well. But where PJ really shines is in two areas 1) Cheap lunch specials and 2) Specialty rolls. You can get basic combos like salmon and spicy tuna for $5-8 depending on which ones you order, or you can get some of the pricier specialty rolls which feature additional ingredients and sauces. My personal favorite is the David's Special. My one complaint is that the quality tends to be inconsistent at times, though only when it gets really busy. I noticed a lot of orders come in around dinner time (Police and EMT seem to love this place) so the man and woman (husband and wife?) behind the counter seem to have their hands full during peak hours. Despite being busy though, they are always polite. Bottom line: if you're a sushi snob crawling out of the woodwork after watching Jiro Dreams of Sushi, then take a plane to Tokyo, because that's not what you're going to get here. However, if all you want is some super cheap on your wallet (but not so cheap on your tastebuds) fish rolled up in some seaweed and rice, then you've come to the right place. read more

PJ is the best and I regret spending my money anywhere else. The fish is always fresh and the portion size compared to price is very generous. They offer lunch specials which are a bit cheaper. Went for Daily Lunch Special Food - 5/5. The sushi here is delicious, large and has a great fish to rice ratio. It is a takeout sushi joint so you won't have delicate presentation here but the quality of the sushi makes up for it. One bit of warning is that some of their rolls might have different definitions compared to other sushi restaurants. For example, their Spicy Tuna Roll won't be a mash of tuna and spicy sauce in the roll, but a regular tuna avocado roll with spicy mayo on top. Salmon and Tuna are their main sellers so I recommend sticking to those. Service - 4/5.
