Great thin crust pizza with homemade mozzarella. The only reason I'm not giving five stars is that the prices are somewhat high and so I can't say that you really get great value here. We had the 16" pizza ($23) and the Caesar salad ($7, which, to be fair, isn't that bad of a price point) which didn't quite full up two adults and two kids. As a result, we ended up ordering a calzone ($9). All in all it was a "better than average" pizza experience but it still set us back more than $50. So it's more like an Amici's than a Domino's. Was meeting a college friend and decided to come here. It is very casual with very little seating. There is an upstairs where we went to as there were 8 of us. The pizzas come in various sizes. Tried their pizza for the first time today. I am usually not a big fan of the local pizza stores here in the Bay Area, but this place has some really great pizza. We ordered half lamb and half chicken pesto pizza. The lamb pizza was so yummy! And chicken pesto was light an refreshing. The crust is thin and light and I was full after 2 slices lol. This gem sits amongst a slew of fairly nondescript independent restaurants and shops along the rest of the street. The pizza is made fresh to order and all the ingredients on our pie were strong enough to stand on their own. We ordered a large half supreme (#2) and half lamb/ricotta (#8). The lamb was tender and flavorful paired with red onions that were perfectly cooked and sweet, lacking the overly pungent punch that undercooked onions have at many other places. The dollops of ricotta were creamy and fresh, pleasantly mixed with herbs. The supreme tasted fairly standard at first, but when you slow down you can clearly taste the quality of each ingredient from the spices in their homemade crumbly Italian sausage to the deep briny aroma of the olives. Talking with the owner, he clearly takes pride in his craft and rightly so. I walked in not expecting much from a pizza joint and left already trying to decide what I would order on my next visit! I've only been there once- it was good pizza but I think exceptionally high priced. Interesting atmosphere as it is decorated around a bicycle theme. I usually get a medium or large pizza from most places so I have some leftovers but when it gets to $40 and more it's too much for me to keep going back. They had these wrapped ice gelato on a stick that you could buy that ate twice the price of the exact ones they sell at Whole Foods which is often over priced. I dropped by here after getting high remarks from a trusted friend and finding it on Yelp! We opted for a half/half pizza with the #2 Sausage, Pepperoni, etc on one half, then the #4 Ricotta, spinach, mushrooms, roasted garlic on the other. Both were outstanding! Their sausage is LEGIT! We also loved how they mixed their fresh ricotta with herbs and put dollops around the pizza. Keep in mind they also have an assortment of nice popsicles to finish off your meal! As someone with celiac disease, pizza is hard for me. But this shop is now my favorite gluten free pizza in the Bay Area. My friend loved his regular pizza as well. We customized with lamb, Spanish chorizo, pickled jalapenos, and roasted garlic. They have other vegetarian and non -vegetarian toppings. The owners use fresh mozzarella, concentrated tomato sauce which is low in acidity and bake the pizza crust twice to get a crispy crust. They also offer gluten free crust and an oven which reaches up to 800 degrees in temperature. They have gelato on a stick. They carry Izzy carbonated juices and draft beer. Service - The owners are hospitable. They explained that they didn't know anything about pizza making and brought in an expert from NYC to teach them the art of making delicious pizza. This place makes great pizzas. As soon as you open the box, you can see the higher quality ingredients right away. The homemade sauce is excellent. We love getting pizzas here but admittedly, it can get pretty expensive. Their pizzas aren't cheap. However, you get what you pay for! This is our choice pizza spot on the peninsula. Velocity pizza is a cute little pizza place in San Mateo and is the definition of a Yelpie business. It is owned by a loving Asian couple who run their business with a warm smile on their face and treat every guest with respect. The pizza itself is great and you can easily make out that their ingredients are fresh. They make their own red sauce and mozzarella and recommend it with most of their signature pizzas. Even though It's a little heavy on the pocket (we paid around 32 bucks for a 16" inch pizza) and the service is a little slow (since they've tied up with UberEats and Caviar), it is totally worth it and you won't be thinking about any of this as you devour each slice. 5 stars! read more

I love locally owned small businesses however sometimes they miss the mark. I got a small gluten free pizza, my dining partner got a small pizza and we split a salad. The salad was the best part of the meal and it was very downplayed on the menu (only two choices). I did not love the homemade gluten-free crust, it was basically a buckwheat crepe and the texture and flavor of the buckwheat was distracting and overpowered the pizza toppings. My husband complained about the pizza sauce flavor. I do hope they make some changes to their menu and hopefully then they will bring in more business. read more

We love coming here. The pizza is delicious. The crust is crispy, the cheese is homemade, and the toppings abundant. We've been coming on a weekly basis for the past few months and the quality is consistent. We also love the customer service. Our toddler loves watching the pizza get made and the brick oven and it's flames. We see a lot of families, and there are usually kids running around. These guys went all out learning their craft by bringing in an expert from New York. They have a thin, super crispy crust, fresh mozzarella (made daily), a tasty sauce and lots of toppings. They even have Daiya cheese. It would be nice if they had a non-meat protein option (apparently I was the first person to ask) and a whole wheat crust (I forgot to ask about that one). I would probably go quite often except there are already a couple good pizza places closer to me in downtown San Mateo. I'll still make a point of going to Velo City from time to time. read more

I ordered pizzas from Velo City Pizza for an event up the street and not only were they a big hit, but the owners were pretty much the kindest and coolest people ever. It was a match made in heaven at this pizza place that I somehow never noticed before. A group of us took a cycling class a few doors down and unbeknownst to me, Velo, is cycling themed. It's super cute with one of those giant heavy brick ovens. They make the mozzarella fresh in house every day, and they have some interesting ingredient options that you don't see everyday like lamb (which I heard is incredible, particularly in calzone form here). It's the kind of place where you can pick up, order at the counter to take our or eat in, or get a courier service to deliver to you (ubereats, cavair etc). They've got a nice little wine selection, some beers, sodas, gelato pops that look beautiful in that case, 2 sizes of pizza, and calzones. For what you're getting I found it extremely affordable.
