I just came here for the oysters and they were superb! The North Shore Gold were my favorite, if you like salty. The Rappahancock were also my favorite, these are very light, creamy and butter taste. They were fantastic with horseradish! The caesar was delightful. The wood grill gives the salad more of a crunch and has some smoky elements. I could have passed on the Collin's drink. We wanted to try Plank since seeing it hitting our usual North Italia fix nearby. The bartender was friendly and helpful in choosing some fun drinks and eats. The oysters were great! The croquettes were just OK, but my scallops were really good and my wife's Ahi Tuna was more than worthwhile. We came here on a saturday afternoon mid day not busy at all so keep this in mind (very hot day also). Came here on a whim because we were in the domain and passed by, the wife saw new seafood joint and jumped on it. The menu was pretty extensive so you got a great selection, she got some oysters and some dish it was good not memorable but good. I ended up getting the soft shell crab sandwich and it was amazing! Definitely worth getting if you come by. Oddly enough i had to explain as a fish filet sandwich from mcdonald's but way better if that helps (not a knock on the food compared to mcdonald's but you get the point). Got a kids meal for our toddler they weren't too into it but it's ok they ate some and pushed the rest away (toddlers sometimes you win sometimes you don't). Now from a service stand point this is the odd thing we found, we showed up later part of the afternoon i want to say right before happy hour or right when it started. Bar was full but the restaurant itself pretty empty, we saw a lot and I mean A LOT of seats inside. We were greeted and asked if had a reservation we did not so they said the patio is open for seating (which we took) Service outside not bad server was good. Now I started to look around and noticed all the kids were sitting outside in the patio (people with kids I should clarify). When we walked back inside to leave only adults??? Did they have something against kids? I don't know maybe all the tables were reserved I have no idea just a weird coincidence maybe? But literally everyone who had kids/toddlers were on the patio and everyone indoors was adults. Just an observation and from that point kind of upsetting for us because it was very hot out (it's texas) we had a toddler we were in and out within 40 minutes would have been nice to sit inside is all. Typically skeptical about restaurants in the Domain. Typically overpriced for mediocre food. However, I was truly impressed with Plank! My girlfriend and I went for a gal-entines and it did not disappoint! Sara, our server was amazing! She had such a great personality while recommending the best things on the menu. Great service is hard to come by in these post-pandemic times, so she truly wowed us with a great experience. The oysters were to die for. So good and fresh. Radish is house-made and oh so strong (which I love). Poached egg with caviar was a great item, as well as the buffalo octopus on a bed of potato salad. The food is delicious and very fresh. And top it all off the service is outstanding. I went for a birthday lunch and enjoyed their crispy brussel sprouts and wood-grilled - sea scallops plate, my husband enjoyed the Piedmontese ribeye. We like to sample each other's plates and both thought the food was good. He even ate the brussel sprouts which he's usually not of fan of at other places. One thing about their food is it is meant to be shareable so if you and another person order at your table you may not get your food at the same time. The oysters were good once they finally arrived 30 minutes after ordering. We were seated in front of the kitchen and the place was only a third full. We watched as oysters left the kitchen for later seated guests at least 4 times before ours arrived. The shrimp pasta and the fish and chips were OK. The next I knew I had this large bottle of water I'd apparently bought naively assuming I'd get a glass of water but no. So basically it was $51 for a dozen oysters two fish tacos and two large bottles of water and no drinks, at 'happy hour'. This was my second visit and my husband's first. We were celebrating our anniversary last night and my husband made reservations after hearing me rave about the food and wanting to take him. I just love the atmosphere and design. A perfect mix of classy and comfortable makes it a great date night spot or girls night celebration choice. I don't take for granted living in Austin has spoiled me with some of the best culinary choices available in one area. Plank is among some of the best. Although oyster bar is in the description, there are plenty of seafood and land options you can choose from if that's not your thing. On my first visit we split several plates of appetizers and oysters among our large group. I also ordered the Redfish entree (absolutely delicious), Strawberry Surfer, (good but a little too sweet so I only wanted one) and a Cucumber Collins(if you like vodka but think you don't like gin, you're missing out. Give this one a try). For our anniversary dinner, my husband couldn't stop talking about wanting the seafood tower. Our waiter assured us it's perfectly feasible for a couple to split and finish one. Plus presentation wise, it just looks impressive. So we did that and still barely had room for dessert. We walked away full but not miserable. If you're debating the two tower options, go for the Royal Seafood Tower. The Yellowtail Sashimi Fish was one of my favorite things on the tower, but the 6 Dressed Oysters were by far our favorite and if it was socially acceptable, I think my husband would have licked the bowl clean from the Whitefish Ceviche. I just read that they say you should wait to eat oysters in months that have an "R" because they'll taste better. I don't know if that's true at Plank, but I can tell you that everything on our tower was so fresh and flavorful now so don't be afraid to come in the summer. They were out of the cucumber collins so I opted for the Speed Boat instead and that may be my new favorite drink. For dessert, my husband had the Chocolate Terrine and I wanted the Meyer Lemon Chess Tart. He's more of a chocolate guy than me but I tried a bite of his and agreed it was one of the best chocolate desserts I've tried. My dessert was also perfectly balanced, not too tart, mildly sweet. I keep wondering, am I seeing restaurants differently these days, the pre vs post pandemic era? Can I do an accurate Yelp review, or will it be biased because I'm actually inside a place these days, thinking it's the coolest thing ever? And isn't this pretty much the definition of #firstworldproblems, since I could just as easily been dead with a tube jammed through my trachea? Hey, at least I got to use that opening. The bottom line is Plank is the newest & coolest restaurant in the Domain, I wasn't particularly blown away by any of the dishes I had, but the ambience and superb wait service after a year was so fun & refreshing I'll come back for that again. I'm not sure why I thought this was a steakhouse, probably because I only saw Plank and not Plank Seafood Provisions. The fun thing about Domain restaurants is how they focus on defining Austin upscale, certainly with their prices. But seriously, you're not going to get bad food anywhere, so relax and enjoy the moment. I think there are over thirty places to eat around here now, and I'll check them off one by one. Fresh seafood option at the Domain. Count me in! Met a buddy for lunch here and tried a few options from the menu. We sampled each of the daily oysters, which were fresh and briny with the usual accompaniments, served in a different way. The cocktail sauce was fairly bland, but there was extra horseradish available to season it up. The mignonette was in a dropper bottle and didn't have the bits of shallots. The hot sauce was also in a dropper bottle. It allows some customization of flavors. The blistered shishito peppers were served over aioli with seasoning on top. Honestly, despite the appearance of being seasoned, they merely mediocre. My main entre was the red snapper served over fingerling potatoes and broccolini. The fish was perfectly cooked with that delicious wood-fired taste. The potatoes and broccolini were also tasty, but could've used some salt, although there wasn't any on the table, I guess because of Covid. My friend had the fried gulf shrimp and they were HUGE! Very tasty, too. Overall, I'd give this place a 3.5 stars. I was unimpressed given the cost. For $105 for just my share of the bill, I should have been wowed. Everything was good, but not great. Also, for $13/glass of bubbles, they could have/should have been more generous that a 60% pour. I'd perhaps go back for happy hour, but if I'm going to spend that much, I'd rather take my money to Eddie V's or Uchiko. read more

Coming from the seafaring PNW I have tried some of the best offerings in the genre and Plank does a satisfying job providing fresh and tasty flavors in small bite sized packages. I feel their weakness is fried food, the crab cake is dense, the fries are massive for some reason, definitely worth a taste...but just don't scratch that itch sadly for a good fry. (Ironically I actually wish their Fish were battered the same way as their chips as the crunch would be great) Where they shine is fresh fish plates, Rajun Canun Sushi, Sashimi, and their salad. The Shrimp and grits/ Chimichirri Flat Iron Steak, and their cocktail list are to die for as well. read more

The Plank enjoys a prime location in the Domain. We made reservations for dinner and arrived early to enjoy a cocktail at the bar. We were seated promptly at our reservation time. We patiently waited for our waiter to appear. Finally we were noticed and were able to order another cocktail and an appetizer. After a very long pause, our waiter reappeared and we were able to order our entries. Our entries arrived in three stages. First one arrived, then two more arrived. Then a few minutes later, the final entree arrived. This is a major pet peeve of mine and a symptom of an inexperienced kitchen and wait staff. Not surprising for a new restaurant opening during a pandemic. The food was good but the portions were very small considering the price. Hope things get better. This place high on my list of seafood restaurants to try. It absolutely blew me out of the water. The service was fantastic and our waiter took the time to talk to us about the menu and answer all our questions. We tried a little bit of everything. Oysters aren't always my thing, but they were so fresh and tasty. The king crab came out warm with butter to dip and was so flavorful. Everything had great flavor and was well worth the price. The Cesar salad was large and fresh and had a great smoky flavor. The clam chowder had great flavor and was fantastic with the fried clam strips. The red snapper was incredible. Plank is probably one of the only restaurants at the Domain that I had not been to yet, so decided to give it a try for a quick happy hour yesterday while shopping. The dishes were simple but solid. Nothing memorable but the crispy rice cake was the perfect spicy bite. The pickled red onions served with both the calamari and the smoked fish dip were a nice surprise. The salmon crudo was probably the best thing we had. The drinks looked very appetizing but opted for a Mexican coke instead and ultimately regretted it. Nothing short of divine. I have been to Plank for HH (happy hour) a couple of times, and enjoyed it, but held off on my review until I had a meal here. Let me say, get to Plank today if you love really good food. Plank is not trying too hard to impress- they simply prepare quality food, with just the right amount of seasoning, and present it well. Everything we ate was divine. Appetizers: ceviche and mussels. I LOVED the mussels! The flavor of the sauce reminded me of a Bouillabaisse. It was served with "toast points" which was so appreciated because I could have (unapologetically) slurped down a bowl of that stuff, but tried to eat like a lady, and just soak the toast in it. The guys both loved the ceviche, which I didn't try, as it is not "my thing". My guy and I shared Rainbow Trout, and our friend had Ahi Tuna. Yum all around. We didn't even need a dessert menu because you haven't lived until you've had their lemon torte. Let me tell you, chocolate is my LIFE, but this torte is so fantastic, chocolate is like last year's forgotten lover! Just go to Plank now-I won't even bother explaining how beautifully it is presented, how creamy and tart and fabulous it is on your tongue and in your mouth. I like the crab burger the most bc it looks really cute but the octopus was way too spicy for me. It's a hit or miss for me. The shrimp was also very nice but I thought it was a little pricy for $30. Plank Seafood Provisions was absolutely wonderful. Of course we donned at the bar. Service was wonderful. I enjoyed one heck of an amazing Expresso martini. For our entrees we enjoyed the muscles which came in a delicious buttery sauce topped with crispy pork skins and bread perfect for dipping. I'm pretty sure I spooned the sauce when the bread ran out. I think Plank is the very definition of "average". Located in the Domain, it's very typical of Domain fare, where everything is overpriced, wannabe gastronomical, but lackluster and not worth it. I think that the drinks at restaurants are very telling of how the quality is going to be. At Plank, the drinks were semi-fancy sounding, but were just your typical cocktails with some personality (so, kinda fake fancy). They also came out tasting like semi-sweet water. That basically sums up the entire experience. Moving on, the food is also average. We had two of the shared plates (croquette and calamari) and neither was good enough to justify the price point, so we skipped out on ordering more plates. Having experienced raw seafood in Austin, I doubt that my experience here would be any better than my other ones, plus the seafood here is SO expensive. We finished by trying each of the three desserts (butterscotch budino, chocolate terrine, and meyer lemon chess tart). The budino was the best and most interesting. If anything, please try that if you are ever here. The chocolate terrine was disappointing...I don't even really know how to summarize my experience. It was so average that it didn't even register, but was not great to the point where we didn't finish it. The meyer lemon chess tart was actually bad, where the dessert was overly salted and just not good. All in all, the food here isn't terrible, just average to below average. The price is way too high for the quality and taste of food. I wouldn't suggest coming here or any Domain spot because this is pretty typical of the Domain dining experience. read more

For a mall restaurant, we were pleasantly surprised at how good the food tasted, but because it is located in a mall (albeit, outside) I do think the prices are a little high and that is the only reason I am giving Plank 4 instead of 5 stars. I do suggest making a reservation because they were fully committed for the evening. If you do not have any luck, they do have ample seating at the bar. As soon as we were shown to our table, we were greeted by the lovely Sara M. We started with a couple of glasses of the Mason sauvignon blanc, wood grilled Caesar salad, and oysters au gratin. The grilled lettuce was a different and welcome take on the classic caesar. The oysters were good, but next time, raw would be the preference. For our main course, we shared the ahi tuna plate and crab and curry basmati rice and both dishes were incredible! They are very generous with the crab meat as well and those two dishes were definitely worth every penny.
