I met up with some girlfriends for HH this past Friday and we decided to try this place out. We met up at around 4:30 and it was bustling but not crowded. They have seating inside and also on the enclosed patio. The HH specials were pretty good and they also have 25% off bottles of wine. We got a glass of red wine and a glass of rosé. For food, we tried the beignet hush puppies, the crispy rice cakes and the won ton tacos. My friend had the cheeseburger and upgraded to truffle fries. The fries were big, crunchy and really good with the aioli it came with, amongst other sauces. I liked the grainy texture and subtle sweet flavor of the hush puppies. The crispy rice cakes also had a moisture with the topping that was unexpected and welcome. The wonton tacos were very crunchy and surprisingly filling. The service was very quick and attentive. Several team members and the manager also came by to check in on us during our meal. I'll be back for hh! read more

Came here for the first time for dinner tonight. At the first table that we were sat at, drops of water started dripping on two of the people in our party of four. Upon our request, they moved us to another table. And, someone did come by to apologize for the dripping water. Yet, minutes later they sat another party in the same spot. I had their shrimp tacos, which were decent but nothing to write home about. And, it was somewhat pricey at $20 for JUST 3 tacos and no sides. After our first round of drinks, our waiter did not ask if we wanted another round. Nor did he refill our waters even once. The worst part of the entire experience was when the sun reflecting on the building across from the restaurant shined directly and uncomfortably into my husband's and my eyes...to the point where we both had to put our sunglasses on inside the restaurant. There were no apologies by any of the staff about that. The restaurant definitely should consider installing blinds to remedy that situation. This is the second time we have visited Plank Provisions. Our server was amazing, we got a dozen oysters each and some wine for dinner. We felt so cared for by the server and the assistant manager Delaney. She came over to check on us which no one ever does anymore. This really made the whole experience worth it. I have been coming here since they first opened. I have been here a few times. They used to have a tuna tower and it was so tasty!!!! I was pretty bummed when they took it off the menu. They recently added a spicy tuna crispy rice cake to the menu. TEN OUT OF TEN!!!!!!!!!!!! 10/10. I was expecting an actual rice cake. This was some sort of wonderfully fried rice logs with these little fried dots on it. DELICIOUS. The perfect amount of crunch and softness from the spicy tuna. I am not a spice person but this has just the right level of mild kick. I sat at the bar and Jacob was wonderful. Looking for a great seafood restaurant in the Austin area? I highly recommend Plank Seafood Provisions! I was a first timer and service and food was excellent. Starters: Calamari, I am a fan of calamari and I must say this calamari was done well. I am a fan of the fact that they include both calamari rings and tentacles, with a good mix of veggies. Please make sure you are someone who likes the calamari tentacles before ordering this dish, but remain a huge fan. My only recommendation is to give a lemon wedge. The lemon wedge and my plate, and from what I noticed on others is no more than the lemon edge. I still give this calamari a 5/5 because the sauce compliments the dish well. Grilled Salmon: The plate was small, but the salmon was so well done. I suggest going with the recommended rare to medium rare as the salmon was moist, juicy, and tender, yet still well grilled on the outside. The asparagus was also extremely buttery. The whole dish melted in my mouth and the cilantro sauce was a great addition. I have to say, I don't think I have had salmon in this way and I would definitely order again. Sushi: This salmon sushi had a kick to it, and it was fabulous. I have idea where it came from but the flavors in the roll meshed. One aspect is the rice was very heavy with less fish in the roll. A change from your traditional Japanese sushi, but hey it's about the experience:) Not pictured: I did order a wine bottle (rose) it was a treat and I asked my waitress for the recommendation. Went here for happy hour and could not be more pleased! My husband and I were really wanting oysters and saw that they offered $1 oysters during happy hour, which is 3-6 every day! We sat at the bar and service was very prompt. We tried the Strawberry Surfer cocktail and it was good, very very sweet though. We also got the redfish ceviche which was delicious and 18 oysters (they only allow you to order 12 at a time so they don't get backed up shucking them for one table at a time, so we ordered 12 and then 6 more once the first 12 came out). read more

I don't know how good the food is here, but the first impression was horrible customer service. My wife and I sat down at the bar counter ready to order wine and oysters. The female bartender had a very dismissive, rude, unwelcoming attitude. So, we decided that this place did not deserve our patronage, and we went somewhere else. We dined at Plank in the Domain after a "shopping afternoon" on a Friday. It was a decent meal. We really wanted it to be great. As usual, we showed up for happy hour, and then mostly ordered off of the regular menu. HINT: happy hour is not that great of a deal at Plank, nominal savings on most things. DO NOT treat Plank as a "happy hour go to" for great deals... minimal savings on the things you really want. Treat it as a full fare restaurant any time you're there. It's a chain seafood restaurant, nothing "spectacular" that you'd expect from a truly "local" restaurant. High points: The house margarita is made with only orange and lime juice, better with tajin on the rim! Shrimp toast and the Golden Beets salad were good, but not "you gotta get this" quality. We've had better beet salads. We had a bottle of Selena pinot gris which was delicious, on point, and served at the right temperature (we took the leftovers home!). Low points: The oysters are average, all East Coast... which we do not understand when we have monster-sized delicious Gulf oysters everywhere in town (HINT: again, chain restaurants don't understand we have GREAT oysters here... CHEAP!). The "uppity crowd" may demand PEI oysters (any East Coast), they pale in comparison to "our" awesome local oysters! The special of the day was grilled sole, the fish was great! The bed of broccolini on which the fish was served was severely undercooked, virtually inedible... a big miss there. The lemon tart dessert was OK, served chilled... the filling was tasty, the crust reminded us of pre-made bad pie crusts. Make the crust fresh, it's not that hard! Finally, a word about ambiance and service... cool place, decor fun and nautical. Service not that great, slow most of the time, and dirty dishes left on the table for way too long (it was not busy or crowded when we were there!). Bottom line, not a "go to" for us. Went here a few days ago and everything was at least pretty good. Special shouts out to the golden beet salad with the oranges. That was unique and tasty. And the frites/fries. Good but not great. They actually have a nice happy hour until 6pm, I would actually come back for that if I worked nearby. Some decent deals on cocktails and wine and some apps. Came here for dinner and most things were good but nothing was exceptional. I was disappointed that they didn't have the grilled oysters on the menu anymore, only raw ones. The wood grilled Caesar was fairly plain, tasted like pretty much any other Caesar salad. They also brought this out at the same time as our entrees which was weird they didn't bring it out first. The brussel sprouts were good, and the calamari was fine. For my main course, I ordered the sea scallops which came with squid ink pasta. Was a little disappointed that for $47 before tax/tip, you only get four scallops. They weren't the colossal scallops either, they were just the normal sized ones, probably U12. The squid ink pasta was fine and didn't taste fishy but wasn't anything special. The dollops of carrot ginger puree added sweetness to the dish but they probably should've also included a lemon for the scallops. Drinks were good, the mule was fine but a bit too much lime, and the strawberry surfer drink was very sweet but refreshing. Good deal for $9 until 6pm. Our server was actually really friendly and great too. It's a shame the food was only satisfactory and a little overpriced. Also too bad they didn't have wood grilled oysters, even if you get the "wood grilled seafood tower", the oysters that come with it are raw ones and they won't cook them for you (we asked). Overall, I think I would come back for happy hour but maybe look elsewhere for dinner. read more

The calamari was amazing--crispy, flavorful, and easily the highlight of the meal. The Santana roll was also a win, packed with flavor and super well-balanced. Unfortunately, the Everything Crunch Maki was a letdown. It was covered in so many sesame seeds that it overpowered everything else. We popped in for a quick snack and some adult beverages while running errands at the Domain. It was our first visit and a non-peak time so there was no wait. We sat at the bar and enjoyed some cocktails. The sea foam margarita was really good and it was fun to watch them add the sea foam on top! The strawberry surfer was really tart which I wasn't expecting; but of course drank it anyway. The real highlight of the visit were the appetizers! Both the ceviche and brussel sprouts were delicious. I'll be back again for those and hopefully get to try entrees for lunch or dinner. To be honest, I was drawn in because of their $1 oyster happy hour which I think is a great deal. They're east coast oysters (which was way better than Gulf coast) and they have four varieties that the chef chooses. We had PEI oysters that day and they were quite sizable; some were quite long and meaty. The condiments are very nicely presented in little dropper bottles. Aside from that we got oyster shots, redfish ceviche, and yellowtail sashimi also from the happy hour menu. The HH prices are about $3 off but the original prices are a bit elevated so these prices are about average imo. The only one I'd recommend from those was the ceviche which came with tostadas and was drizzled with ancho chile sauce (I think) which was really good. The ambience was really nice with coastal decor and our server was friendly. I'd come again for the $1 oysters but personally probably not outside of HH. read more

First, I'm going to start off with 5 stars and work backwards to see if I can think of any reason to remove a star. (I rarely give 5 stars but this was a great night.) We had a reservation for 8. Great table and great ambiance. We ordered cocktails and appetizers. All delicious! The mussels were good with a nice spicy kick, the hush puppies were tasty, the tuna tower was smoky good, and the calamari was surprisingly good. I don't usually like calamari. We then were treated with complementary golden beets and ceviche because of the wait. (We honestly didn't notice but appreciated it.) Holy cow, the ceviche was AMAZING! When our food arrived, everything looked and smelled so good. Nice presentation too! I had the redfish with broccolini and potatoes. Ever bite was amazing. I wish I took more photos. Really excellently cooked seafood. Very fresh with some interesting flavor fusions I hadn't thought of before like the Thai coconut clam chowder. I really enjoyed the Golden Beets appetizer (but I will be real - the size of the appetizers is small for $10 or$12 a plate; and you saw the $$$ so expect it). I enjoyed the Wood Grilled redfish - super tender with a crispy crust on top of broccolini and potatoes, but it was slightly over salted for me. Also tasted the potato-crusted, fried flounder, which was awesome, especially with the house tartar. The star for me though was the service. Our server was so friendly and attentive, and was even timing putting in our main dishes with when the appetizer should be finished. I also like that they listed the cities and states that the catch came from. Some of the fish appeared to even be from Massachusetts and Vermont! Server didn't offer water and was missing basic restaurant etiquette. Crab cakes were just ok. It's a decent place to get oysters if you want to pay full price and get cocktails. Came for dinner wanting to try a seafood place around the domain. Solid spot if you're hankering for some upper end seafood. Atmosphere: Modern style seafood restaurant appropriately with a nautical theme. Food: Really good food, the only hard part was deciding since all seafood have different tastes and can be styled differently. I ended up going with the scallop linguini. I enjoyed the take, it wasn't ultra cheesy like some may think of linguini and instead offered a more refreshing zesty taste along with scallops. My friend got the redfin that I tried which was also pretty solid tasting fish. We also enjoyed some calamari which was crispy and came with a great sauce. Dessert is also noteworthy with the chocolate trio they offer. Fudge lovers rejoice. Service: The only feedback I have is actually on service. Service was attentive, but almost too attentive in that I felt rushed at times for being there. My server did attend our table in good time, but asked several times "is everything alright" almost about 3-4 times during our dinner. It made feel rushed because she even asked before we could even being to eat our food. Maybe it's a training the restaurant gives some of it's workers, and I certainly would rather have this than the opposite, but it made me feel like I had to rush eating in order to get things moving. So I suspect there is an extra star to be had If mood altering beverages get added to the game plan. * * * Most of what we were served was average but perfectly okay. Asparagus was not at all okay. Majorly undercooked - and the sauce was dumped on the bottom part of the spear you don't eat. (What's with that?) We had three sushi rolls one of which was spectacular and the other two were nice enough. A chopped salad was inoffensive, as were the Brussels sprouts. If you want to people watch in the Domain, The restaurant's corner location gives you a fine view of the passing proceedings. Prices are high but not obscene. As an eating place, it was acceptable, But not to the point where I am dying to go back. If you are going to be not only eating, But drinking to the point that you start telling revealing stories ... We heard about the HH at Plank but we must have come on an off day yesterday. We sat at the bar and felt like we had to wave people down several times to take our order or ask for status on our food. The golden beets were delicious but the sushi seemed extra salty so my friend asked why. Turns out they put a white sauce on the sushi that is also salty so when combined with ponzu or soy it became unbearably salty. They remade one of the sushi rolls but it took a long time to come out. It also felt a bit warm inside so we moved away from the door. Hoping the next time we decide to try Plank they will have some or we will try some other HH options. $9 for a glass of Prosecco seemed a bit high for HH. read more

Second then here and this time was a bit different. Their blinds were broken but we were still seated in an area where the sun hit us directly in the face. It was pointed out to us, but there was no offer to change which was a bit strange. There was also a water leak from the ceiling and which needed a properly placed caution sign. Outside of that though, the food was good. I loved my salmon, my friends thought the other fish they have, the name escapes me, wasn't the best. The cocktails were good, and although not in season, the oysters are top tier. Will certainly try again and hope for a similar experience as my first. read more

Coming from Sra we're all spoiled when it comes to seafood so having oyster anywhere else just never compares. Oddly, with a shmorgasboard of all-things-seafood, Plank Provisions manages to deliver on all fronts. While I might not recommend this place to someone who was specifically seeking sushi, I thought the sushi offerings were fantastic (and affordable on happy hour!). The hamburger was a double smash patty with 'merican cheese, briney pickles, and a toasted bun. The oysters come with little tincture bottles so you can add the exact mg amount of mignonnette sauce to your half shell. I highly recommend the guava-based non-alcoholic beverages and their cucumber collins for those seeking out a boozy boisson. Hot tip: The restaurant is best-suited for 4-tops, so our party of six had to wait awhile despite reserving a table days ahead. read more

First things first. WOW! Best ceviche I have ever had. The leche de tigre had a kick, but was not overbearing and the shaved celery added such a lovely texture. The serving size was generous too! The whole meal was great. The caper relish on the salmon crudo was delicous and a unique take on crudo. I loved the droppers to dress the oysters. So easy and no messy.
