You get oysters, shrimp and all of the seafood goodness with a side of a straight up martini I'm in heaven Bacon wrapped shrimp with dirty grits is also absolutely delicious, I'd give the flavor a 10 Mussels are great, Thai clam chowder great Just go and order all of the things except fish and chips. We stopped by for an in-between lunch and dinner snack around 2pm on a Saturday afternoon and sat at the bar with no wait. We got the Charred Broccolini, Redfish Ceviche, 6 Iced Oysters, and 6 Dressed Oysters. The Charred Broccolini was cooked well with a smokey touch. I love garlic and enjoyed the larger-sized garlic bits. We love when ceviche comes with the tostada chips to break and scoop the fish on! The fish was fresh and the capers were not overpowering. The oysters were great - both varieties were fresh and briny. The vinegar and hot sauce came in dropper bottles - what a great idea! The dressed oysters were great on their own and did not need anything added, just a few drops of lemon juice and it was perfect. Neither my friend nor I enjoyed our meal and we didn't want to bother with sending it back as it was towards the end of the night. I came to Plank last weekend with another party. We came during a non-busy Saturday afternoon. We ordered a couple of menu items.. so here we go... When we came in, we were greeted at the hostess stand right away and asked if we had a reservation. While we didn't have one, we were still seated right away. We sat at the table for several minutes prior to our waitress approaching our table. We started of the meal with a Mimosa and a glass of Sauvignon blanc and two raw-chilled items. Shrimp Cocktail $19.00 This cocktail came with 5 shrimp ($3.08 dollars per shrimp, for those of you who are counting). The shrimp were okay, a little tough for my liking. I could have done without this app. Oysters $4.00 each We added caviar to the oysters. When paired together, oysters and caviar enhance each other's saltiness. The combo is a perfect appetizer for any occasion. These oysters were fresh and paired really nice with the champagne. Wood Grilled - Ahi Tuna Plate $32.00 This was a wonderfully buttery but light dish with ginger-scallion noodles, turnip, beech mushroom, konbu dashi, yuzu, bonito butter. This was quite filling and with each bite, the flavors of the dish melted into each other. Wood Grilled - Rainbow Trout Plate $30.00 My companion had the menu item and the I sampled it and the fish had an ideal cook on it. The mix of tomato, caper, onion on top of the fish was simple in flavor yet savory. After brunch cocktails: Bloody Mary with an extra shot one the side of each one. These had very little kick and to be frank, the shrimp on these were fresher than the ones in the shrimp cocktail. Overall, the service was nice but the price point for what we paid (over $300.00) for a brunch after tip wasn't worth it. I feel that the Truluck prices without the Truluck freshness and lack of the kick of a good ole Salt Traders Bloody Mary wouldn't bring me back here. However, for the locals who only visit just once, at least you can say you went. read more

While in the ever amazing and enjoyable "The Domain" on Century Oaks near Esperanza Crossing, we decided to get a late lunch/early dinner as we walked past the inviting Plank Seafood and Provisions patio. We were greeted as we walked in and saw that the bar area was getting busy and were seated in their well appointed dining room that is such a great space with incredibly classy decor with a fresh nautical feel that is oriented to the incredible fully open kitchen. Whitney F, our server, greeted us almost immediately after being sat by the Hostess. Whitney introduced herself while she provided us menus and gave us an interesting overview of Plank Seafood and Provisions and its faithful tradition and commitment towards fresh and sustainable seafood, high-quality ingredients and their made-from-scratch mentality. Whitney took our drink order and our choice of a shareable plate. We soon were presented with the Grilled Octopus that was elegantly plated with grilled onions, broccolini, fingerling potato, and romesco on a bed of fire roasted tomato and chili sauce. The portions of young octopus were cut similar to the fingerling potatoes and both had the char and flavor created by the post oak wood-fired grill. The grill was such a compliment to the tender morsels of Octopus that were plated immaculately with the other grilled vegetables on Plank's elegant black dinner plates. Honestly, grilled octopus is a menu item that is seldom treated properly and prepared to perfection, but Plank Seafood obviously gets it right and really excels with the presentation, taste, and texture you'd expect in a Michelin starred restaurant. Really, it's on that level! The Salmon Crudo was beautiful with thin filets of salmon shingled beautifully with a liberal layer like a tapenade of calabrian chilis, capers, olives, lemon, and shiso. Wow, it's a nominal portion as expected, but it's packed full of wonderful flavor! We also tried a couple of the Blackened Rockfish Tacos that were also prepared with a passion for flavor, texture, and love of spiciness in the salsa negra and a calabrian vinaigrette that wasn't just hot with chili but elevated with a broad range of bold spices and flavors balanced with the crema, avocado, slaw, and pickled radish. We finished our lovely meal that was paced perfectly by Whitney with the specially featured Peach Brulee that can hold its own with any in the city and the Butterscotch Budino that was topped with a salted caramel candied syrup with crème fraiche. The Budino was so flavorful and creamy in itself that it could stand alone, but they added to the plate complementing Rosemary Shortcake Cookies thar are elegantly served alongside the custard pudding and the contrast of flavors brings you such joy and maybe even guilt because it's such a rewarding experience. Our visit to Plank was a late afternoon early dinner and very causal, but the experience we had was befitting a formal dinner out at any restaurant in Austin with the classy decor and the incredible focus by the entire restaurant on the food and the experience. The service was pretty quick, and the restaurant has a very sophisticated, high-end vibe to it. We ordered multiple shareable appetizers, all of which were great. We had the Charred Shishito Peppers for our appetizer. The peppers were hot (spicy) and served in a caramelized sauce flavored nicely. I took advantage of Happy Hour (3 PM to 6 PM) and had an Amber Beer called Anchor Steam. The beer had a normal Amber taste and cold! My main entree was fish and chips with a side salad. The fish was light and deep fried. It was flaky and tasted great with the tater sauce. The fries were also fried and were done well, golden and crisp. The salad was served with vinegar and oil in a small bottle with a dropper. The salad consisted of kale and radish slices. All of the servers were friendly and professional. Service was great, albeit a bit slow from the kitchen's end. A manager came by to our table and apologized and also took off about $50 from our bill, which was incredibly kind. WONDERFUL! A magnificent discovery in the domain. Everything we ordered was so aesthetically pleasing and tasted as good as they looked. The interior design was also very pretty and made the dining experience very comfortable. Our oysters were huge and I thought it was cute how the sauces were placed in an eye drop container so it was real convenient and fancy to eat our oysters that way. We shared the Thai clam chowder which had crazy good flavors. It was a bit too spicy for me but my fiancé loved it so much we bought an extra cup of it to go so that his mom could try it and she fell in love with it as much as my fiancé did. We also shared the Caesar salad which my fiancé usually dislikes, but he loved Plank's version of it. They charred the lettuce and it had really great seasoning. Fanciest Caesar salad there is! There were at least 15-20 tables open and we still had to wait 15 mins because we didn't want to sit at the bar. Took 10 mins for server to come and get us drinks. Ordered a beer only to find out 10 mins later they didn't have it in stock. Took forever to get waters refilled. When it came time to pay, it took 15 mins for him to bring checks, then we split check and the guy says his handheld isn't working, never comes back at all, had to flag 3 other people down in order to pay the check, since our original server refused to come back to the table. Plank Seafood Provisions On a nice Saturday morning we arrived at 11:00 AM to enjoy an early lunch before a long day hanging out at the Domain. We were guests number 2 and like a TV show we recently watched, 'Ted Lasso', requested firmly a table next to a window. Humor aside we were seated in outdoor patio facing the front of the restaurant. It was an excellent seating location. The menu had plenty of seafood options. Every order entree is cooked after you order it and when ready delivered straight to your table without waiting for other orders from your table. I selected the Wood Grilled - Redfish And it was unbelievably good. The fish was very tasty and the veggies it sat on too. My wife's catfish was just as good. It was our first time here so our waiter explained the whole experience from seafood sustainability sources to chef's cooking techniques. The decor is very cool and seem to be a place more geared to a romantic setting and office group gatherings. It's definitely among the top five restaurants serving fish in my book. read more

I met at a friend for lunch in Austin last week and because our original restaurant was closed on a Monday this looked like a great backup choice. Plank is located in the Domain. It was challenging to find parking but I think that's because I'm not really familiar with the domain area. Walking into the restaurant I was dumbfounded by the beautiful aesthetics of the beautiful space. The boat suspended from the ceiling was a perfect touch to this Seafood restaurant decor. I also liked the large scale ocean print on the back wall. There were thoughtful touches throughout the restaurant, really a well-designed space!! They were having a rose featured week so we decided to do a rose flight. Our server was friendly and very knowledgeable and shared some great suggestions with us on the rose and also menu items. We tried the charred brussel sprouts, great flavor and even though I'm not a huge fan of brussel sprouts I really enjoyed it. We also had the king crab and redfish and shared. The king crab was pretty pricey and I was a bit disappointed to see that they didn't serve freshly cracked, they took the meat out and seasoned it and added olive oil? Even though it was tasty I feel that it detracted from the simplicity of fresh crab. The fish was excellently cooked, was so flaky and delicious, coupled with a beautiful sauce sauce. Ordered the royal seafood tower, calamari and Thai clam chowder soup as starters to share. For main entrees: filet steak, ahi tuna, fried flounder and scallops with linguini. I think the seafood tower and starters were the stars of the evening, especially the Thai clam chowder. Our friends seemed to be so-so with their entrees (steak filet and ahi tuna). The steak was under seasoned and lacked flavor while the ahi tuna seemed to have too much pasta. I didn't try them. My wife's flounder was pretty good overall. The potato crust/breading was crispy and she enjoyed the fries as well. She's not a big cole slaw fan but I liked the calabrian chili in it. I ordered the scallops with linguini, which I really enjoyed. Scallops were cooked perfectly, no rubbery at all, and the squid ink pasta had good flavor and texture; portion size was perfect. Honestly, can't remember all the cocktails we ordered but I remember liking the killer whale, it's like a long island and sangria combined. We stopped for an early HH and experienced exemplary service and wonderfully fresh seafood. Oyster lovers will love the variety of northeast oysters. I prefer PEI oysters and was pleased to see a PEI option was available. Oysters are served perfectly chilled, served in their brine, and accompanied by a variety of sauces. I don't usually dress my oysters but a dab of their hot sauce will set you straight. Oh, and HH oysters are a buck off. Also on the HH menu is Calamari. This is not your typical fried App but served with pickled shallots, lime aioli, and aji puree that gave a nice little heat kick. Their Thai Clam Chowder with bacon, potato, coconut milk, green curry, and Thai basil puts an interesting spin on traditional chowdah. The curry and Thai basil really take over this chowdah and for me, it was just wonderful. I guess we were hungry as we shared the Faroe Island Salmon and Ahi Tuna. The pickled asparagus that accompanied the perfectly cooked Med rare salmon was a big hit. The Ahi Tuna was sashimi sliced thin with a perfect accompaniment of spices. Saved room for dessert? Then order the Chocolate Terrine  peanut butter ice cream, cultured milk crumble, bing cherry, smoked maldon salt. If you have a sweet tooth then you will not be disappointed. Their French press coffee will snap you out of your food coma. Dis and Dat: Plank has a cool upscale vibe. There is a full bar and patio seating. This place is STUNNING. We could not believe how beautiful and CLEAN it was on the inside. As soon as we walked into the door till the time we stepped out, service was spot on and excellent. Almost every single waiter stopped by our table to play with our baby which made us feel so welcome and I'm sure our daughter felt like such a princess with all the attention on her. As far as the food goes, everyone loved it. That Thai clam chowder is hands down the best clam chowder any of us has had. The flavor profiles in that soup were so complex but subtle and it really just married together so beautifully. The golden beet salad was light, refreshing, and not overly "dirty" tasting like most beets are. I think this salad would even be good for someone that doesn't necessarily like beets as well! Smoked fish dip was just okay; not a lot of flavor going on there but it was nice that it wasn't overly fishy. Main complaint is I wish the red onions were more pickled or vinegar forward. I probably wouldn't order that again but don't regret it. Swordfish was cooked beautifully. It's honestly the best way I've ever had swordfish prepared. That green sauce they served it with was out of this world. Ahi Tuna noodles was just okay. The ahi tuna was cooked beautifully and tasted fresh. I just wasn't a fun of the sauce. It felt like the noodles needed some type of acidity, maybe lemon juice. Overall I would eat here again. A little on the pricey side but for great seafood, worth it. read more

We tried a dinner here when they opened and it was lackluster. OK, write that off as new restaurant jitters. I should have known better than to try again. The decor and ambience were fine. It didn't occur to me to wonder why we could be seated at this restaurant when there were 1 hour plus waitlists at every other place at the Domain? Hmmm. The server was very friendly, but we did not receive food (beyond a bland soup and happy hour oysters, no crackers?) for over an hour. We left when a supposedly halibut-like filet of fish was burned a quarter inch in and served cold. How do you even do that? Gummy risotto completed the disaster. I could not eat beyond a taste to verify that this was an insult. Yep. Insult. We sat and watched other people who were seated 30 minutes after us being served something to eat before us. The sushi never even made it. We walked out. I was hungry...and hangry. In an hour and a half the manager did not come and check on us once.
