Incredibly rude and unwelcoming from the moment we walked in. Immediately after I handed my ID to the old blonde waitress, I was told it was a 21 and up establishment (rudely btw). I'm almost 26 and it's a state issue ID. I have also been served at this bar months before. After holding my ID hostage for twenty minutes, they told me me it was fake and said they would escort us out. Our friend went to pay the tab for everyone and the old blonde waitress told him "f you" and all the other old bartenders started screaming at him as well. If you aren't 80 years old they immediately profile you and treat you like crap. Also it smells like vomit in there so I recommend you got to genuinely any other bar in the area or stay home. Decided to try this place out last night, and it quickly proved to be somewhere that is very unsafe to go as a woman. While it is a sports bar and I was hoping to watch sports on television, it had the presidential debate on with the sound on instead. No problem, it is a big thing for the country, so that is fine. But when patrons at the bar started yelling at the television, swearing, using slurs and slangs against women, and no one on the staff or management stopping it, that crosses the line. Well, I been going there on Saturdays and sometimes Fridays. . Never really met the owner or had any interactions but the waitresses are great. The food is OK. Nothing to write home about but it's definitely doable. Well, this past Saturday they had a great band, which is not so common for them, the band with the "Coveralls". And they had a special night so the owner was there, which was surprising. The girls there busted their butts. You couldn't keep up with it and you would've thought as an owner he would've gotten up and helped them, but the only time he got up to help them was maybe pick up some dirty glasses as he walked over the bar to get himself a drink. Every time the shot lady walked by I asked for one and she said there for the owners table. I will give 3 stars because the wait staff is awesome. Next time though get them help when you know a lot of people will be there. read more

Everything was not good at this place. I was getting yelled at by the waitresses walking by the bar because we were standing there talking to our friends when we first got there. Luckily I ate dinner somewhere else because my friends said the food was awful. I got a draft beer and it tasted funny like the keg was off. So I have finally got the chance to see what Franchise Bar is really all about. 1st Visit: My first visit was a date night to see what the place was like. Upon entering it was quite loud but football games were on so it was expected. We ordered a small brisket nacho, which was HUGE! We couldn't even eat it all. We also ordered 2-3 of their blue drink special they had that night (might have been a blue margarita) & a couple of fireball shots -- which almost took me out LOL. That was my 1st time having fireball so thank you Franchise for the experience. 2nd Visit: I encouraged a friend to check out the bar with me after the movies on a Thursday night. Plus it was 50 cent wing night. We ordered lemon pepper wings which were nice but small IMO & a well drink. A nice cheap meal & strong drink for around $6-7. 3rd Visit: So I decided to head over again for Thursday wing night. I already had it on my mind what to order when the bartender informed they no long did the 50 cent wing night & that the whole menu had changed. OMG! Was my reaction...at that point I wasn't exactly sure if I wanted to stay but I did anyhow. It was also trivia game night so after feasting on some nachos & having a couple of well drinks I was well on my way to losing my 2nd round before I headed out. Will I be back? Maybe just for drinks but the loudness of the bar is quite overwhelming. You can barely even have a conversation with anyone. None of the food on the menu peaks my interest besides the nachos but that's old to me now so I doubt I will be a regular. Overall, I've had some good times there. read more

This place used to be The Franchise. And it used to have a different owner/manager. It was a CLEAN bar and had a great community. Everyone that worked there used to be so friendly and genuinely liked their jobs - which made it an even more fun establishment to hang at. And most importantly, the owner and manager knew how to run a bar and grill. Then the owner sold the place. The new owner caused drama with the old staff, and some of the best bartenders I have ever had were either fired, or walked off the job. The reason became apparent, slowly but surely... The menu items started to change, the food got worse, and became more expensive. They painted the walls dark grey and accented it with black? I think the idea was to make it look modern, but it made the whole place look dark and feel depressing. They added 20 more TVs, which made for sensory overload. It's as if the owner thought you can throw more TVs up and make the bar better, and its a big tell on how inept they are at this job. 1/2 the TVs are playing the same thing anyway, or stuff nobody cares about. The old bartenders used to put a lot of thought into what was on and it was truly sports-centric. Last time I went they had 4 TVs, almost in the same area, playing ESPN classic, while not a single TV had the live Rangers game up. The bartenders seem unhappy and are generally not friendly at all, even if the place isn't busy. The music got so much louder, so it's nearly impossible to have a conversation. Speaking of music, they have some in-house DJ that comes by occasionally and usually sits and gets drunk, then proceeds to play the worst most generic Top 40 music to satisfy his friends at the bar and himself, and again, it is WAY too loud. Then they changed the name to the "Plano Sports Tavern" - a horrible attempt to upscale the place again? Ironic because I don't think anyone goes there to watch sports anymore - and they don't even bother to have watch parties anymore or try to keep the TVs current with live games. And the final straw for us, was the place started to smell like shit. You know that smell like an old high-school cafeteria, kind of a vomity mop-water dirty rag smell? Yea, that's everywhere. That's usually the last sign that your bar is now officially a dive, until you encounter the sticky unclean counters, of which there are plenty at the Plano Sports Tavern. RIP Franchise, it was fun while it lasted. Hopefully someone can come in and buy this place and return it to its former glory, but the current owner obviously has no idea what they are doing, and is just focused on keeping the regular 50-somethings and 60-something drunks comfortable. read more

This place was a bit of a surprise. The menu is not particularly large, but what they have is really good! I got the French Ice Burger and my wife got a calzone dish. Both were excellent. It seems like there's lots of nice people here. Our server Gena was really friendly and helpful. She suggested a local craft IPA beer which I selected. It was really excellent. While we are eating we are watching a few folks playing pool. Friendly Place good food. What more could you want? The next time I come here I'm bringing some change for that Golden Tee golf game! read more

Karaoke is what brought people, that old menu brought people, those servers brought people. Seriously, why are you trying to reinvent the wheel? Add things to the menu, keep the things that are great and change the things that aren't. Why would you change EVERYTHING!! WTF..morons..sorry; I went to this place for almost 7 years every Saturday or Friday night. It was my place..people still joke with me "Are you going to The Franchise?" F*ck no!!! If I could give them a zero star I would. What just happened was I went in at 11 PM, Monday August 12th with my girlfriend. I asked the bartender on duty if they were still serving food. She said yes. She was clearly slurring. I wanted a Caesar salad and a blackened catfish. She came back clearly slurring even worse. She said she was unfamiliar with their "new" hours. I asked her one more question. And she stuttered and slurred so badly that I said to my girlfriend, "she's drunk let's leave." I left to go to my car with my girlfriend and she came out with two bouncers. The bouncers aggressively telling me that their "dick was bigger than my car". Sadly the bartender then came out to my car window and said, "you didn't even ask any questions ". I said, we asked you three or four which proves your drunkenness." At that point two men who look like her friends or bouncers one of them said, "my dick is bigger than your car". I'm not sure how that's relevant. But this is that establishment. If I were you I would avoid at all cost. They clearly have a cultural problem... My assessment was that all three of them were absolutely intoxicated. I recommend avoiding this location at all costs. If you can eat or drink anywhere else in the city of Plano, I recommend you do that other thing. They were a complete train wreck. read more

Well as I sat at the 1/4 full bar area and was waiting for the bartender to stop talking to some of the only I can guess would be "the regulars" I started to read the reviews. So many of y'all are right, if your not a regular you aren't $h!T! Only went down from there. I finally got to Oder a beer and was given a menu. I almost finished the beer before she stopped talking to the REG's to take my order. I should have gone with my instincts and finish the beer and leave. But I didn't. I ordered the beef fajitas nachos. Guacamole was brown the beef was nasty and cold. So there must have been 40+ empty seats at the bar area and 3 dudes were sitting so close to each other they were touching shoulders and elbows. read more

I'll admit, this wasn't my first choice, but it was better than my first choice. We arrived just before noon kickoff on a Sunday, quickly found a table for the 5 of us. They were a bit understaffed with their table service, so that was slow. We did get drinks and apps before the end of the 1st quarter....so that was ok. I had the Chicken Quesadilla and a iced tea. They don't have sweet tea, unless you add your own sugar...or lemonade for an Arnold Palmer....strange there. The quesadilla was ok, good size. Had been sitting a while before I got it. The apps were hot and pretty good. The ability to watch all the games, was good. Parking can get tight up close, but there is a lot more room in their lot. Service? well they need help as our waitress was doing triple duty with the tables, the bar, and cleanup. We'll try this place again to see if they can improve the score. read more

Hurts me to write this, because this used to be my favorite watering hole in Plano. Since new owners, this place is taking a nosedive. Pretty much the entire staff - people who worked there for years - have taken off. And, they really made that place what it was. Went in the other night and the server had no idea what bourbons they had (actually told me a vodka brand) and even the food wasn't as good as it used to be. So, taking my 5-star review to a 1. I am the owner of Franchise Grill & Bar, and after reading some of the reviews I thought it might be helpful to address some of the criticism and maybe offer a few explanations. First I want to apologize to anyone that had a bad experience, and hopefully you will give us another chance. Okay as I read through the reviews, the biggest complaint were NO BELCH, food selection & quality, the place was too loud, bad service, & no Sound Dog. I'm sure I have left something out, but those were the basic complaints. Let me see if I can address these issues. First: BELCH, when we bought Franchise, Belch was doing karaoke I believe 5 nights per week. We simply felt that was a little much, plus the economics did not make any sense. I discussed that with Belch and told him I wanted to cut back on the karaoke. Belch decided that was not going to work for him so he decided to leave. We did not fire him. Just as a matter of reference, we were the first bar owners to give Belch a karaoke job. Menu Changes. The menu that was in place when we purchased the bar was more diverse than the current menu. Just simple put, there were items on that menu that our kitchen staff could not properly prepare, so we thought it would be best to stay with the basic bar fare. We have made any number of changes to our menu in response to customer suggestions. We think it's a lot better , and we are comfortable we can deliver a quality product at a reasonable price. Can we improve? Of course, and we try everyday to do so. As concerns the $0.50 Wings, it's just a price point we cannot meet. Too Loud. At times the bar does get loud, we have been very diligent with the bands and karaoke people we bring in for entertainment, about being to loud. Now there is not much we can do about enthusiastic customers, but I can assure you I am very aware of the situation, and we are diligent about preventing it. Sound Dog. That's the service that provided the individual speakers for the table. We would very much like to provide table boxes. The problem is Sound Dog went out of business and we can no longer get that service. If anyone knows of someone else that provides that service, a heads up would be appreciated. Bad Service. We have had some issues in the past with bad poor service. We never want that to happen, If you have any problem with service or anything else for that matter, please, please call and talk to me (My name is Mike, and if you call I will talk with you. There were some comment about the new owners not giving a damn about the customer or the employees, that just could not be any further from the truth. This is not the first bar we have owned, and we have been reasonably successful in the past. With your help, we will address these issues and hopefully you will see improvements. I will bet over time, business continues to drop, judging by the other reviews. We went to PST Friday (5/24) to listen to some live music that was supposed to start at 9 PM. After waiting 30 minutes with no live music, I asked the waitress why the band wasn't playing yet. She said it was because the Mavericks game was on and the band wouldn't start until the game was over. It was 10:10 PM before the game was over and the band took the stage. I'd like to know why management felt this was a good decision since no game audio was on, in fact, the jukebox was playing while the game was on. So, if the jukebox music wasn't bothering the few people who were actually watching the game (assuming that that was management's rationale for not allowing the band to play) then why couldn't the band start on time for those of us who came out to enjoy some live music? And we weren't the only ones complaining that the band wasn't playing as we talked with others who came out to hear the live music too. Management should rethink this policy if they want to keep people coming out to hear the bands on the weekend. read more

I really liked this place. We went to watch a college football game. There were TVs everywhere and as soon as we walked in they saw our shirts and started looking for our game. We sat at the bar and once they had our game on, brought us a speaker so we could hear our game...coolness!! The guy behind the bar was really attentive, the beer was cold and the wings were good. The crowd was a little lite but lively - lots of cheering and such. A fun crowd. Not sure why there weren't more people at this place but it's huge so it would take a lot to fill it up. I've been coming here every other weekend. It's a really nice bar to watch games. Lots of tv's and every table has good view of it. Beers/drinks are priced well and the food is pretty good. I've never had a bad experience except for one. Well, it was really not that bad but the first time we ordered pizza the dough is a bit undercooked. It was soggy but the flavor of the sauce and the toppings we ordered was really good that's why we didn't really complain about it. The next time we came in, we ordered the same thing and we just went ahead and said it that we want our pizza "well done" it came out perfect! The crust/dough is crispy and the toppings were really good! Since I've been coming here a lot now. I had the chance to try other items in the menu, like quesadilla, stuffed jalapeño, cheeseburger and mozzarella sticks. They were all fresh tasting and nothing to complain about. If you ask how you really want your food (well done, sauce on the side, etc.) they will be happy to oblige. I've noticed too that they have bands usually on Fridays now. read more

Nice low key bar. Pretty laid back atmosphere, especially during the week. Never seems to be too busy to find a place to seat. Wide array of beer and spirits to choose from and super friendly staff. As far as the food goes, tots are the bomb. But every thing else is just okay. Not bad, just a little on the pricey side. I've never written a review for my own personal hangout, but change is in the wind and I'm feeling the muse. New owner. That can be a good thing or a bad. You never know until the dust settles. I'm hoping for the best and have been encouraged so far. The Good (so far) *Currently, the same staff, including the same great bartenders we've had since Day One (the wind whispers there's a new dude a'comin' soon). You love em, you hate em, but they are the single reason this place has the following it does. They have been the glue here and I hope the new owners realize it. *New blackout shades. Any regular will understand this western sun affliction the bar suffers through, so the blinds are great. *A handful of new taps have appeared with some solid, decent brews to sit alongside the same ol' nasty ones many regulars count on. Could have been much better, could have many more local brews, but ya just have to go elsewhere for that. At least you can get more than just the always-awesome Shiner and Blue Moon on tap these days. Anyone under 40 won't be completely driven off now. And yes, this issue has come up with more than one of my Millennial children and coworkers, so if the owners want to backfill the aging clientele as they move on to cheaper lands and want get away with price inflation, they should think this one through. *Same great local hangout with the same great regulars. Cheers and Peyton Place with a cold brew or cocktail. It makes this bland, concrete, suburb called Plano feel more human and real. Church without the guilt. Even when I'm tired of all else, the regulars pull me in. Come find a place at the big U-shaped bar at The Franchise and make a friend. *When the food is good, it's great. I mean, this is the BEST traditional style pizza within five miles. Who knew?! The burgers are really good and worth the current bar pricing. Loaded nachos, awesome. Fish and chips are to die for. Fajitas are as good as any Tex-Mex place. All the salads and dressings are excellent, though they could eliminate the iceberg filler. Wings are as good as anywhere. However, all of this is contingent on the right cooks in back. Hopefully, the new owners can hang on to the best of the back-end staff and upgrade the rest. *The new owners seem to care and are paying attention and moving slowly. That's a great thing. I wish them the best and for success for them and our neighborhood. The Bad (so far) *Same boring, old, tired menu, in spite of my above mentioned credits. I mean, they don't need to dumb the entire menu, just update it. When the right cook is on, it's awesome bar food, but it hasn't changed since Day One, and a shake up is loooong overdue. It's the number one question from every regular who pulls up a seat, "Has the menu changed yet?" I would take this over new blinds, possible bands again, or paint. Come on, dudes! Give us a seasonal item, give us a weekly special, do something! Anything! Like yesterday! *Karaoke. This has become a Karaoke bar after 9pm. So, I head out unless someone I know is singing. But it's popular and makes money, I guess. If you love karaoke, this is your place!! If not, well, I'm hearing they may be changing it up and trying a band once a month. Let's hope! They also do trivia, but thought I like trivia, I can't get into this. If you like it, check it out. *Rumor has it pours will now be measured. With increasing prices... 'nuff said! * Prices are going up. Yeah, they probably should since they haven't changed in ages, but it does make you start judging the bar differently. I like a cheap bar with good pours. And we regulars aren't stupid, though we sometimes act it! So, recently my line item bill has disappeared with only the credit card slips being given for payment, and my tab has increased. Personally, I think that's shady. Personally, much as I might miss the place, I might take my $$$$ elsewhere. I don't do shady. Seriously they need John Taffer from Bar Rescue. I have gone there since they first opened. Under new ownership, the menu and specials have changed. They have always needed two bartenders and only have one. Most of the regular staff has quit. No wine selection. We spent a lot on our last visit. So not worth it. read more

The Franchise is a great grill & bar! We found it last fall and loved the friendliness of the staff, especially Gwen. She greeted us by name after our first visit.
