Great ambiance and service!! But the food and price are not worth it at all. 3 people (1 drink) for $240.00 if food was good, I don't mind spending the $$$. However, the food was not good. The calamari appetizer was the worst taste.. The fried calamari was white vs brown, no taste except fishy & chewy like rubber bands. I ordered a blue cheese martini but it's like an artificial blue cheese inside the olives! The lobster tail was no more than 4 inches long ( grill, no flavoring added) with rice and vegetables for $44.00. My husband ordered the expensive cowboy steak with mashed potatoes for $65 ish..The steak was grilled , not much flavor to it and mashed potatoes was dried and hard. My mother in law ordered the beer batter shrimps .. just few pieces of shrimps .. I think I can cook better than that for the price spend.. Don't let those pictures or 5 stars reviews fooled you cause it did for me ! .. My mother in law is a local and told me is this restaurant is not good and overpriced but I didn't believe her since I read the reviews on Yelp! lol.. Don't miss out! If you have a chance to eat here you won't regret it. Our server, Pat, was helpful, efficient and adorable. We noticed the restaurant after checking out their liquor store earlier in the day, scoring some wine rarities (Cakebread), and figured we'd give the food a go too. SO glad we did!! Three words: Brussels Sprout Chips!!! TO DIE FOR! Never in my life have I had anything like this, and we've eaten at some of the top institutions in Atlanta, Chicago, New Orleans, Seattle, NYC, DC and San Francisco. Tunachos were also noteworthy, as was the Key Lime Pie. Also, one of the best Dirty Martini's I've ever had. Can't say much about the entrees as we didn't get past the great appetizers. We were surprised that from six to seven all entrees were half price I ordered the lobster tail even though not in season they had them flash frozen so it tasted soo good... My husband had the hog fish picotta I had the clams appetizer and my husband had the wedge salad .....all very exceptional The server was so attentive yet not pushy ... The atmosphere was very pleasant children were across from us and they all seemed too fit in.... Another thing that impresses me is that the house wine is only six dollars for the keys that is really different . Kasey was so nice her main job is the dolphin research center but she loves animals .....but a rare quality she is also Cotton Terry Kitchen Towels 10 piece set----green/green checkfond of people !!! Food is excellent! Service is excellent as well! We love to come and enjoy appetizers, martinis and fine wines at the bar. We also love all the wonderful dinners and memories we've had here. The early bird special is a tremendous deal as well as the $5.00 martinis. Sometimes we catch a movie after or enjoy a night at the local theater since the movie theater and local theater are both right next door. This place is the most sophisticated place in Marathon by far but all attire is welcomed so we always feel comfortable. We absolutely LOVE Plaza Grill and will return as often as possible! read more

Wow wow wow!! I was on the edge about coming here but after days of eating our fresh caught fish, we needed a change. The restaurant is very pretty and upscale. It was Fourth of July week so it was packed. I have to admit that the service was not good due to the lack of servers and it being a very busy week. Despite this we were patient and understood that it was going to be a wait. It was worth it! Starting with the bread it was the beginning of a great experience. Fresh baked and delicious! We had calamari which came with a delectable home made marinara. I mean top notch! Certainly not from a can! My daughter had fettuccine Alfredo. Wowzers !!! So decadent! I mean creamy cheesy delish!! So home made !! My scallops. Oh boy my scallops. Best I have ever had! They come in a savory sauce with mushrooms and capers. They were cooked perfectly and oh so sweet and soft!! The skirt steak and filet mignon were seasoned to perfection, cooked perfectly, great quality meat and delicious!! I can't say enough about this place. I will definitely be back. Had a lovely meal here with my husband before going to the theater next door. Ordered the duck and it was perfectly cooked and juicy. My husband had the filet mignon and while it was undercooked, (the problem was corrected quickly), it, too, was tasty. They were out of glasses of red wine and their bottle selection was small and pricey (a little too pricey for some of the bottles offered) and our server offered me the option of a glass of merlot from the list (that was my only option). My fiancé and I visited plaza grill tonight. We both enjoyed our meals and we are both chefs in Philadelphia. Our server was fantastic! Her name was Sharon. She was helpful, answered all of our questions and was very attentive. Our wedge salads were good, no complaints. We both got the filet. Both were perfectly cooked to med rare, juicy and tender. For us it lacked a bit of salt but that's not really a bad thing. The brussel sprouts were really good. Still lacked a little seasoning but like I said before not a big deal. (That's why there is salt on the table :)) The baked potato however was overcooked and crumbly even after I doused it in butter. May they would be better if they did a mashed potato or pan roasted potato. Baked potatoes can be hard to keep hot without messing them up. All in all, great atmosphere, experience and great server. I have been eating here for a few months on tuesday. Love the bartender but tonight was really disappointed . I had my usual espresso martinis. Awesome!! One problem my pesto linguine with shrimp was awful! First was so under cooked I could not eat. Was like swallowing cement. Told them it was under cooked the chef was furious She picked and handled my food with her bare hands while I was watching her. We had a great dinner. I had the shrimp teriyaki and my husband had the Mahi fish dinner. If you go between 5:00-6:30 all entrees are $ 19.00. Restaurant looks very "New York" from the front and the interior is well decorated and sophisticated. They have a great chef and the meals are presented very nicely. The ambience is very pleasant with constant music featuring Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and others. They have a fully stocked bar with excellent selections and a complete wine list. We looked forward to trying the Plaza Grill before going to the theatre. We had a 6:30 reservation, but they suggested we get there early, so we arrived at 6:15. The entire experience was pretty much a disappointment. The ambiance is nice, however, the acoustics are so bad you can't hear those in your party. The layout of the restaurant is extremely poor with a tight bottleneck over by the bar/kitchen area. Drinks came out one at a time (??) and we waited AN HOUR for our food. The waitress took the order and simply never came back to check in until we flagged her down. She said our food should be out in five minutes. It wasn't. The funny thing was, there was NOTHING coming out of the kitchen for the entire restaurant, except a couple of appetizers! They must have had only one person back there. Remember how I said the ambiance is nice? It is, except from where I was sitting you have a lovely view of a glaring fluorescent light fixture in the kitchen, constantly burning your eyeballs. Very odd. They had put two doubles together for us and cover all the tables with white paper (what is this, a crab shack?), except there was an almost 1" difference in the tables hidden by the paper. My friend put her glass down and it tipped over that discrepancy onto the table and absolutely shattered! They picked up the glass, mopped up the beer, then proceeded to lay a napkin over the wet area. Didn't even change the paper (this was before food). My husband later got a shard of glass in his finger. It took 15 minutes to get a replacement drink! We finally got our food which was good but I won't go into because we won't be going back. We ordered dessert and the check at the same time because we figured it would take another hour. I could see the dessert ready to be picked up, but our waitress never noticed, neither did the others milling about the pick up area or loading glassware. My husband finally followed our waitess to the front where she was sorting menus and he told her to forget dessert and bring the check. She RAN to the pick up area and came back to tell us it was ready but we told her no. We had minutes to make our 8:00 show. Never again. read more

It's not the food, it's about the whole experience when one (who is not on a company expense account) decides to pay to dollar at a fancy restaurant. And, that's why I am not quite happy with tonight's experience at Plaza. First of all, food was barely okay. Just something produced by an average, uninspired chef using good ingredients. On top of that, order taking was faulty and billing was mistaken too. And, the server was probably unhappy because she had to work on Christmas evening. When we asked for some extra bread, she said she might not have that. Really? You have run out of bread!? Overall, I am quite dissatisfied that despite spending $100+, I haven't had that "great-restaurant" experience. Again, a restaurant marked $$$$ needs to make sure they justify that, and Plaza seriously under-delivers in that front. read more

I'm not sure where to start. Most importantly it is essential that I tell everyone that the staff was delightful and were doing the very best with what they had. So here we go. First, there was no manager working on Monday 10/8/12, and if there was they were hiding in the back. I'm always wary of a place with no management, expectations and training tend to get overlooked. As you walk in the front door you are basically standing at the end of the bar, we were greeted by a lovely lady named Amy, who was the bartender, and we choose to dine at the bar. After a quick look at the menu we order some starters, wedge salad for me and baked brie for my wife. The items arrived in a reasonable amount of time. Here is where the training comes in to play, the baked brie was barely warm, certainly not hot, and the toast rounds it was served with were very think and very hard. I never like to assume a restaurant is using leftovers but I would guess this was last nights bread rubbed with some herbed oil and baked. The wedge salad was pretty good, but the blue cheese dressing was more like a paste, way too thick and actually difficult to dress the salad with. We both had a glass of Sonoma Cutrer Chardonnay with our first course, it was served freezing cold, again I believe this to be a training issue as Chardonnay is best served at 50-55 degrees. I asked our server if the steaks were USDA Prime, she replied "Yes!" so I ordered a 14oz NY Strip and my wife got the Filet, both Medium Rare, we also ordered truffle mac and cheese and onion rings. For our wine I selected a bottle of Stags Leap Artemis. The wine wasn't stored in the visible wine cabinet, but instead was retrieved from a storage area out of sight. It was served at 75-80 degrees(should be 60-63 degrees), a huge error for a place charging $35-$40 per entree and calling themselves a fine dining experience. Again the food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. My NY Strip was overcooked slightly, I ordered Medium Rare and it was Medium. That's the good news, the bad news it tasted like some sort of chemical, and did not even resemble USDA Prime, if you've had Prime Beef you know and can identify the difference. The garlic mashed potatoes was quite nice, creamy and had great flavor. My wife's Filet didn't taste like the chemical I experienced but again it wasn't great. Truffle Mac N Cheese was well flavored but undercooked. I believe the chef is using a broiler / salamander to prepare dished such as the brie and mac and is worried about burning the dish. Either way some training is necessary here, mac was ok but not hot. My wife and I found ourselves saying "they're so close" multiple times that evening. They need leadership and training to make this place work. Wines should be stored at proper temperatures if you are charging a premium for them, the staff should know if your meats are USDA Prime or not, (and the should be) and a manager should be in house all the time, this isn't a fast casual dining experience and shouldn't be run like one. My analysis is the owner is financially stable and doesn't need this place to make money, it's a hobby not a livelihood. We may return one day, but it won't be really soon. I'll need a compelling reason to give it another chance. Again the staff was delightful, some training on some finer details would help tremendously. read more

This restaurant is a bit different than the usual keys fare and it's definitely the fanciest restaurant in town. It's a rather small fine dining restaurant. Most of the items on the menu are pricey (entrees range from $19-$56) but I think it's worth it if you want to have a special dining experience without driving all the way to Key West. It has a really nice quiet dimly lit atmosphere, white table cloths, white cloth napkins, and candle lit tables. It's perfect for date night or a romantic special occasion. We were seated next to the bar, which was very loud and made conversation difficult. But the service was good (I had to ask twice for lime for my sparkling water, but she was very friendly & pleasant). The food was good. I especially liked the pastrami salmon and steamed clam appetizers (though very garlicky). The menu items were ambitious and high-end, but the execution was otherwise average. For instance the steak was cooked medium and charred on the outside, though we'd requested medium-rare and there was a raw chunk of potato in the mashed potatoes. Our meals cost about $200 for 4 people, but with only one glass of wine at the table, so the bill would have been much higher if we'd all ordered drinks. read more

We had my mom's 70th birthday dinner here--15 friends and family with various tastes and idiosyncrasies. We left beyond satisfied. Wonderful Spanish and Portuguese wine. Fantastic service. Here now for dinner the food is pretty good, however it's the service that's a little off. Our apps and salads were staggered so someone would be eating while others were not. The worst part was our youngest guest at age five waited till the end of the meal to receive his Mac and cheese. Usually the youngest eat first. It's a small place and very pricey. One of the few 'upscale' (it is the keys) dining options in the middle keys area. Ambiance and food was above par. Second time there (2016) - both times I went with the hogfish. First time there. Very nice looking place. We were seated, ordered an Italian bottle of amarone. Waitress forgot to pour my wine but did pour my husbands. We asked for several things like water, hot sauce, napkins, coke refills for the kids and it was all forgotten. We had to remind the waitress. She looked lost. Food was not all we thought it would be. Steaks were given to wrong people on the table. The portion of the food looked as if it were a childs portion. Not impressed by this place at all. Finally fine dining in the middle keys. Well aside from Chef Michael and perhaps Ziggie's and the restaurant at Cheeca there is just no real fine dining outside of Key West as far as I can tell. There is good food and family places but not what "white tablecloth" experience. Plaza Grill had attentive service, great cocktails, and splendid food. I had the duck and my wife had a margate snapper. Both were excellent. The prices were not out of line at all for the quality. The ambiance was well appointed, once inside you could have been in NYC, Boston, or San Francisco. It was a nice change of place and style for someone hanging around in the Keys. read more
