My husband and I went to get take out at Plenty on Tuesday. We both ordered the large Chicken and Broccoli with Baby Corn. We also got 2 free egg rolls as we spent more than $15.00. Look, it's strip mall Chinese food. You're getting exactly what you expect when you tipsily google "Chinese" in the GrubHub search at the end of a long day. It's not fancy. It's not gourmet. But for me, it was delicious! Flavorful, savory chicken fried rice; perfectly cooked plump crab rangoon; and giant egg rolls (don't be scared that they're made with peanut butter -- soo good!). BEST EGG ROLLS EVER! I haven't tried a large variety of their menu items, but the portions are decent (I always have lunch the next day), prices are fair, low $10 minimum and speedy delivery. I've had vegetable lo mein and chicken lo mean, both of which were equally delicious. The chicken noodle soup is a mainstay when it's cold out and I'm feeling under the weather. But all 5 of my stars go to the egg rolls. I wouldn't know an authentic egg roll if I woke up with one in my mouth, but the egg rolls at Plenty have become one of my favorite guilty pleasures. They contain peanut butter, but I don't know how it's used. I'm told it's used as 'glue' to hold the wrapper together. The egg rolls don't taste overly peanut-buttery, but they definitely have that rich flavor hidden in the layers. I order the delicious chili oil hot sauce to dip them in and I'm in heaven. I could be happy just ordering a few orders of egg rolls and pigging out. SO DAMNED GOOD! I can't say it enough. I am in love with these egg rolls. read more

My wife and I enjoy going to Plenty to enjoy a nice meal. We bring our favorite bottle of wine with us and some of our favorite appetizers are the pot stickers and vegetarian egg rolls. My wife loves their Moo Shu pork and I really enjoy the sesame chicken. Make sure you tell them how little or how a lot spicy you may like your particular dish. They are very accomodating to make your meal suited to your spice "buds". They recently added a wide assortment of teas so with winter fast approaching, it is nice to try out some new blends they are offering. My favorite is their Hibiscus tea. Give it a try. read more

I have ordered from Plenty a handful of times over the past couple years because they have good crab rangoon that you can easily order party style when you are having people over. We got food from them on Valentines Day, and I'm sure it was busy, but they totally forgot the rice. We didn't call, because I had some leftover rice from something I cooked during the week, but it was annoying. Also, they have very good and flavorful Egg Foo Young, but they seem to vary in the number of patties you get in the large and the container is only ever 1/2 full because you get barely any sauce. I know some people may not like the sauce but it's a treat when I get it, and I like the sauce. It would be a perfect entree if it came with enough sauce for each patty, and the normal patties for a large is at least 4, and often they send just 3. The curry chicken is very good as are the noodle dishes we've ordered. I'd give them 5 stars if they verified/checked the orders, improved their breading for things like sesame shrimp or chicken and the egg foo young had more sauce and a consistent number of patties for the large because everything else about Plenty has been great. Our orders always arrive quickly and mostly correct. Eating out/ ordering take out is fairly expensive in Chicago, so it's important to have consistency you can count on. Plenty's prices are decent for Chicago, even with the recent increase so with a bit more consistency, they'd be someone we'd order from more. read more

Sub-mediocre standard brown sauce Chinese food. My go-to Chinese delivery place closed, and I've been trying to find a new spot. I don't expect a lot from delivery Chinese, particularly on the north side, where Chinatown restaurants don't deliver. I don't look for gourmet, but I do like lots of fresh, crisp vegetables, clean flavors, and not too much grease. But Plenty didn't even meet those expectations. The eggrolls were too greasy and tasted overwhelmingly of peanut butter. The hot & sour soup was ok, but didn't have any shreds of pork, which is pretty standard fare. The chicken with brown sauce and black beans that I added veggies to had very few veggies, and they were limp and overcooked. Fried rice tasted stale, was over-salted, greasy, had no vegetables, and I suspect the ham was actually spam. Plus they only have canned mushrooms - not dried or fresh. If you're used to really salty, greasy, Americanized Chinese food, you will probably like Plenty. If you're looking for something more, skip it. read more

We have been ordering delivery regularly from Plenty for 4 months. We really enjoy the food and the people are nice. We've really liked everything we've ordered. My husband is a huge fan of gooey orange chicken and other dishes like that. Their version is much lighter and more flavorful than any others we've had. My favorite (at this moment) is the moo shu chicken--yum! There are shredded shitake mushrooms in it which gives it great texture and flavor. We do like the eggrolls. They are mushy like other people have mentioned, but there's something different about them. It's almost like there's peanut sauce inside. read more

The worst Chinese food I ever had. Ordered crab Rangoon, but I got BURNED beyond recognition Rangoon instead. Chicken fried rice was very dry and salty. General Tso's Chicken was tasteless. Definitely go for the lunch special, for under 7 bucks you get a heaping pile of entree, fried rice, eggroll and pop. I usually get the General's Chicken, but have been known to get the Lo Mein or Egg Foo Young. Overall, they give you good food for good prices. The dinner menu is a bit pricey for the area, and they don't really do that great of a evening business (cause and effect??). Lunch specials end at 3, so even a lazy ass like me (when i was unemployed) could saunter in at 2:50 for a nice filling lunch of Chinese goodness. read more

I really like this place and it's my goto for grubhub order of chinese. The price is really cheap considering the quality. I've tried much more expensive places and the food was not nearly as good as Plenty. Importantly, they pay attention to special requests (no onions, no peppers etc). Plenty is our new Chinese delivery place. The lady who took our order was very pleasant. Something about her voice made gave me a great first impression. The delivery was super slow (30 minutes late), but the food was inexpensive and tasty. The egg rolls were nutty and delicious. The pot stickers had a nice flavor, but like another reviewer mentioned, they were oddly doughy. I asked for a recommendation for a spicy chicken dish with the most veggies. Hunan chicken was their suggestion. The chicken was perfectly tender and their was a fair amount of veggies, but it was totally mild. If you like heat, make sure to ask for extra spicy. My boyfriend got pork with baby corn and it was really good. The pork was bbq style and really flavorful. We ordered small portions and their was still enough for leftovers. The only downside of our experience was that the rice that comes with the small entrees was super small. It was kind of cute because when I held it in my hand I could imagine I was a giant, but also sad because we needed more rice. read more

I was afraid to try this place because whenever I pass it, it seems no one is in there. I was hungry one night and my bus on the corner of Montrose was going to take 20 minutes to arrive. YIKES! So I looked over my shoulder at the Plenty Chinese restaurant I had been eyeing for days now.Thinking this would be the perfect time to pick up something quick with time to catch my bus. I was right about that .They were fast with my order of chicken fried rice and hot and sour soup. It was piping hot... I was so hungry I wolfed down my fortune cookie while waiting for the bus. *Don't judge me... I had not had lunch yet and it was way past my dinner.*:) I got home and opened my fried rice, it is what I expected... tasty, hot and greasy goodness. My only complaint here was lack of veggies in it. It was chicken,rice some scallops and sprouts... maybe it is just me.. but I think peas or carrots would go well in fried rice. Nice place for Chinese food. Extremely friendly staff. My friend did't know their Sesame Chicken is spicy until she got the dish, we told the owner she couldn't handle anything spicy. He replaced that with orange chicken right away without extra charge. It was sooooooo good. The salt and pepper chicken I ordered was spicy and crazily tasted!!! 1st and last time ordering from here..i orderd the sweet and sour chicken on the lunch special and it was the most awful experience I have ever had with Chinese food.. the sauce was put with the chicken so when the food came it was a soggy mess.. the rice wound up being liquefied due to the sweet and sour sauce as well,n not even one piece of chicken n my chicken fried rice!!so i called to speak with someone about this I simply stated how Michael came to me letting him know so that maybe never happens to anybody else in the future I didn't even ask them to send me anything else and they offered to send me some more food to replace that which I thought was from a man saying yes I'm calling you back I'm sorry about that I got yelled at for 15 minutes by the other lady on the phone then he asked me if you could take my order....lmao wow!
