Saw a lot of reviews on Plow and had to give it a try! I was not too happy about waiting over an hour for this brunch place and the food was alright. Our server was kind enough to give us a complimentary biscuit which was delicious. Tried the stuffed French Toast which was good (loved the cream on top), but I think it was too overwhelming. Loved the potatoes on my sisters plate, however was not too fond of the chicken apple sausage bc it was a bit dry.
Came for the ricotta pancakes and they did not disappoint! Highly recommend the plow as it has 2 lemon ln ricotta pancakes with potatoes eggs and choice of protein (we got bacon)! We also got the custard French toast which was soooo good. It would have been too sweet on its own for me but with the plow it was perfect! This is such a great brunch spot and the reason you will wait even 30 minutes on a Tuesday at 10am. Weekends get wild so plan accordingly. No reservation system! Lots of lovely outdoor and indoor seating! Great ambiance in portero hills. Will be coming back. Worth the wait!!!
Heard this was a staple brunch spot in San Francisco and stopped by. Approximate wait time was about 30- 45 minutes but waited ended up waiting over an hour to be seated outside for a party of four. There are a few tables outside the restaurant that are slanted on a small hill and a platform with a few tables on the street. We were seated on a table on the hill and had to be mindful of fluids/sauces filled to the brim. Blankets are also provided on each chair in case it gets breezy outside. The menu is set daily, so the dishes can vary from what's shown in previous photos. After ordering, it took over 30 minutes for our food to arrive. The summer vegetable hash comes with beans, squash, tomatoes, corn, carrots, peppers and eggs. I typically associate hash with potatoes, but surprisingly this dish does not come with potatoes. The dish was fairly mild, with most of the flavor coming from the individual vegetables. It's definitely a lighter, healthier take on hash and would be a good option if you're looking for something with more vegetables. The plow comes with eggs, lemon ricotta pancakes, potatoes and choice of meat. The lemon riccota pancakes were the star of the dish- light, fluffy and not too sweet. The potatoes were crispy. The steak + eggs was a hearty option. The steak was tender and juicy and went well with the chermoula sauce. Overall, I'm glad I got to try this restaurant at least once, but hesistant to come back because of the long wait and value of each plate.
It seems the stars just keep lowering each time I come . ANY time I am in the city, I subject whoever I'm with to the wait with the promise that it will all be worth it. I fear this time, it was not. We waited 1.5 hours and honored our request to not sit directly in the sun but ended up sitting us VERY closely to the table next week to us. When my bf went to the restroom, it almost felt like I was with the other party. Not a sentence goes unheard. I get you are busy but don't ruin the experience for guests! Give us some space to breathe! Especially outside !!! The food itself was mediocre this time around. I kept bragging about the crispy potatoes but it didn't taste the same as the 7 times I've come before. Not crispy at all. The biscuit was also more of a crumbly coffee cake rather than a flaky biscuit. And not enough butter! The only thing that was still a 10/10 was the lemon ricotta pancakes. I'm sad that I will no longer be coming here but maybe it's time to start going somewhere with reservations!
The food was very good, no complaints about the food whatsover. Staff was efficient, once we were seated the food came out with above average quickness. This place was packed we got there at about 10am on a Saturday to put our name down (no reservations in advance) and ended up being seated around 11:15 or so. We expected it to be packed because it's popular and it was very good, I'm glad we went, but I don't necessarily think it's worth the hour plus wait. The inside seating area is very small so if you're seated inside it gets pretty loud and you'll basically be sitting an inch away from the next table over. We sat outside which was definitely the better experience as long as it's a nice day. One stall bathroom for patrons so there was always a line because of how busy it was.
Phenomenal breakfast. We arrived on a Sunday at 8:30 and had a 45-minute wait. We got seated at the counter which I loved, because it was roomy and we got to see the cooks in action. The most popular order seemed to be the plow which came with a heaping of food and is large enough to share. I ordered a scrambled egg on the side with a honey butter biscuit while my husband ordered the prosciutto and Gruyere toast and a lemon ricotta pancake. The potatoes are an absolute must have. They're boiled then fried so they're soft and buttery inside with crispy edges on the outside and perfectly seasoned. The toast was a homemade loaf sliced thick, toasted with a slab of Gruyere on top that's melted, prosciutto, a beautiful sunny side egg, chili crisp, and some greens. The pancake on the side was yummy. The wait is worth it so don't arrive hangry because there will be a wait and potentially a long one depending on when you arrive. Order the potatoes. Order another side of them if you're sharing because you'll fight over them.
Plow is definitely worth the wait! Our group got a delicious smorgasbord of plates Lemon ricotta pancakes - absolutely delicious. Not too sweet - loaded with flavor Fried egg sandwich - pairs great if you split the lemon pancakes - sweet and savory - definitely add the bacon! The iced coffee was good - a little on the bitter side We sat outside, it was a hot day so bring a hat/sunglasses Plow is a spot to have on your brunch bucket list
Super Popular Brunch Spot. Long Wait Times Even Weekdays. Food Taken When Still Eating. Unkind, Rude Service. No Coffee or Condiments even after asking multiple times. Indoor and Outdoor Seating. More Expensive than Other San Francisco Brunch Spots. Unmemorable Food and Drinks. Paid Meters and Residential Parking. Lively Ambiance Inside with Loud Music. Overall, each of my visits to Plow over the years has been worst than the last, unfortunately, as I keep returning hoping for better but walk out even more disappointed. However, I wish the restaurant the best.
This is an incredibly popular restaurant in the Dogpatch district of SF. The wait time on a holiday weekend was about 1.5hrs. There is some room to sit as you wait and there seems to be plenty of street parking around. The inside is cozy and I was tickled by their menu. They print a new menu daily! I wonder if they vary the menu by the day. We liked everything that we tried! We shared a biscuit and Hong Kong Toast. The toast was a little burnt and you could taste that through the condensed milk. The biscuit with the honey butter was delicious! These make great shareables because they're a lot on their own. The plow is a great sampler breakfast platter and I'm so glad they offer that! It comes with 2 lemon ricotta pancakes, choice of eggs and protein! Huge portions and I shared this with my husband! We really enjoyed the food and would love to return when we're next in SF!
Service 5/5 The staff were very friendly and efficient Ambiance 4/5 Cool little spot. Have some few tables outside on sidewalk as well as a deck area in front of restaurant. It was such a nice day we sat outside. Food 5/5 The Plow was delicious. Nothing was "salty" Pancakes were nice and soft I will definitely come back even just for the BISCUIT! It's a MUST TRY!
Plow has been on my list of spots to try for over a decade. I finally had the opportunity to check them out on a random early Thursday morning around 7:15am. There were 2 other tables occupied and the server seated our party of 2 next to another table of 2. We were literally arm and arm with our neighbors. I asked for a different table and then got seated next to the other table of 2, which was another arm and arm situation. Finally, I asked if the counter was available, which was where we ended up having breakfast. That was super awkward to say the least. Not just for us, but to the other patrons since there were so many empty tables, including outside tables. Totally understand in trying to maximize seating, but that morning wasn't hustling or bustling with patrons. Good brunch options weren't as plentiful 10+ years ago as it is now. For the price and quality/quantity of our Plow brunch, it was underwhelming. I opted for the Soft Scramble and saw the eggs were from a pre-mixed carton (don't even think they're real eggs). However, The Plow included real eggs, saw the chef crack open the eggs on the grill-top. Sitting at the counter has advantages to see what and how the chefs are cooking. Service started off on the wrong foot with the seating situation, and can't say that it improved. Overall, this experience was just ok. We finally made it to Plow in Potrero Hill after hearing so much hype about it. We expected the hour wait since it's such a popular brunch spot, and honestly sitting outside on a beautiful San Francisco morning in Potrero Hill made the wait pretty enjoyable. The neighborhood itself has such a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food didn't really live up to the reputation for us. I ordered the fried egg sandwich, while my partner got The Plow with eggs, lemon ricotta pancakes, potatoes, and bacon. The breakfast sandwich was basically just egg and cheese with a tiny handful of frisée. Adding bacon or avocado was another $5-6 each on top of an already $18 sandwich, which felt excessive considering how simple it was. The potatoes had good seasoning, but they were pretty undercooked in my opinion. The lemon ricotta pancakes were also disappointing. They were dense, dry, and almost biscuit-like rather than light and fluffy. The bacon and fresh orange juice were both good, though. Overall, the experience and setting were enjoyable, but the food itself just didn't feel worth the hype or price point.
Went to SF and decided to try Plow. What a gem of a restaurant. Light, bright, clean and packed with hungry fans. We be ordered their namesake the Plow. Lemon ricotta pancakes, crispy potatoes, an egg with house made sausage. And an order of sourdough toast and two eggs. Delicious. A little hint. The sausage was a bit spicy for those that don't do spice. The pancakes were tiny but still plentiful. The crispy potatoes are awesomely perfect.
We came for Friday brunch (11 AM), waited around 45 minutes for bar seating, and another 30 minutes for our foos. Seeing the crowd outside, our expectations were high. The service was good, and our waitress was nice and checked in on us twice. Ambiance was nice, typical modern diner vibes. My boyfriend got the two eggs brekkie ($21) and I got the soft scramble ($20). To be honest, this was very average brunch food. The only thing that wowed us was the house-made pork sausage patties, and other than that, everything was good but not amazing. I was a little disappointed in my soft scramble, I expected Gordon Ramsay soft scramble if you know what i mean. My "soft" scramble was pretty much the same as my boyfriend's normal scramble. I did enjoy the potatoes, especially the small crispy bits! Overall, the food at Plow was alright, definitely not worth the wait in my opinion. My expectations were really high waiting 45 minutes, and it wasn't met. You could find other brunch spots just as good without this long of a wait. Still good brunch food though! read more
When you think of the classic San Francisco Saturday morning brunch, this place is it! We went on a Saturday morning around 9am and had to wait almost 2 hours for a table, but I would do it over again! Amazing food! The menu here isn't too extensive but everything on it is fabulous. We tried the eggs Benedict which was cooked to perfection, the breakfast sandwich, and the Plow which came with a few lemon ricotta pancakes, eggs, sausage, and potatoes. The plow was the start - someone in your group has to get this! And get the sausage with it. It is a housemate fresh sausage patty that was just incredible! The lemon ricotta pancakes were also to die for. The breakfast sandwich (add a little bacon or avocado to yours for extra goodness) was amazing, and eggs Benedict...you can't go wrong! Most of the meals came with they housemade potatoes that were amazing. I underestimated those! Depending on the season I think they swap out their pancake flavors. They had some pumpkin pancakes when we came early November. I'm adding this to my SF favorites list! I'll be back! read more
The waiters were witty and friendly and the food came out pretty quick. I really enjoyed the egg sandwich but honestly wasn't a huge fan of the crispy photos... really could be a preference thing but it was too crispy for my liking. The plow is a nice area and we sat outdoors. I feel like blankets or heaters should be an option with how cold it gets in SF. Overall I give it a 3.5/5 stars I was visiting from Seattle and it wasn't worth the 45 minute wait. read more

Now one of my favorite brunch places in SF! A friend had been raving about Plow and finally had the chance to go with 2 other friends and try. I ordered The Plow and everything was so yummy! I personally loved the potatoes and the lemon ricotta pancakes. We sat outside and though it was cold, Plow provided thick blankets so that was very nice :) read more

Disappointed in my experience here given that the food is solid. This was my 2nd time and I liked it enough to return but this will be the last time. First, as a party of 3, we were told by the host at 8:20am that it would be a 30 minute wait. The wait ended up being 1.5 hours and we didn't get seated until 9:45/9:50am. We got seated and all the 3 person tables inside require 1 person to be in the walkway meanwhile all tables are only an inch separated from each other. Already feeling cramped and uncomfortable, one of us was even asked by a waiter to move her chair in more into the table and remove her purse behind her back (not even on the chair) so that they can squeeze behind chairs to access and serve the people next to us. A bit ableist... After ordering, we had to wait another 30 minutes for our food because they said the French toast takes 25 minutes to make. They should at least put a note about that on the menu or warn us when we ordered. They didn't tell us this until 20 minutes in. By this time, we were frustrated by it all and it ruined our experience. Will not be returning. Plow is lucky their food isn't bad and Emily Mariko is on their side read more

Came here specifically based on the reviews that said that they have such great gluten free pancakes. I sincerely think that something must have happened to the batch that they gave me because they were one of the worst things I've ever had in my life. I believe they may have forgotten to add the flour or something because the inside of the pancakes was nothing but crumbly soaking wet mush. When I asked about them I was told that was "just how they are" because they don't have flour, even though the description itself says they're made with almond flour. It didn't make sense but I didn't want to make a scene about it, so I just didn't eat them. It was a big disappointment since we drove all the way from San Jose and I researched in advance to find good gf pancakes. On the bright side, the potatoes were great and the eggs and chicken apple sausage were tasty. Hopefully they either tweak that recipe to improve them or make sure they're being made consistently going forward. read more

The wait is so so so long even on a rainy day. The good thing is they let you put your name down on the waitlist. The food is amazing, especially plow potatoes! It is the most crispy and creamy potatoes I have ever eaten. I was not able to taste their chicken apple sausage since they ran out of it that day. I would want to go back and try it but the wait is always long so probably revisit on a weekday next time. The place is not big inside so can't accommodate a lot of tables at a time. The tables are pretty close to each other too. The staff are always busy but would ask if you need any help and refill water from time to time. Overall, I would revisit and the potatoes are totally worth the wait! read more

Yes, Plow is a brunch staple in SF. That being said, don't come here on the weekends. You'll be waiting 1-3 hours during peak brunch times. I came here around 9am this past Saturday. The hostess estimated that we'd have to wait about 30-40 mins but we actually waited almost an hour before we got seated. We had to keep flagging the server down for things they forgot to bring to us, like things that we ordered and water. They are busy though, so I get it. The food is consistently excellent: the buttermilk biscuit is crunchy and toasty on the outside and buttery and soft on the inside, the breakfast potatoes super crispy, the scrambled eggs creamy fluffy, and the lemon ricotta pancakes fluffy and lemony. This is why I come back, but next time I'll come back on a week day or come at 8am if I try to come again on a weekend. The plow and the soft scramble with veggies are often on my rotation. And of course, we always have to get a biscuit. read more

The servers were really lovey and we were still able to be seated just after their closing time My friends were split for choice and we went for both The Plow and also the Porchetta sandwich I got the Porchetta sandwich which had a multitude of great flavours. The spread, mixed in with just the juices from the pork along with the rocket and caramelised onions was mouth sound inducing. Good sounds. The pork was also a great level of fat to lean. Get the porchetta sandwich if it's on the menu! read more
TL;DR: Came in a skeptic, left a believer. The hype is well-deserved. At first glance, their menu seemed pretty lackluster to me and the constant line looked like such a hassle. But now I could kick myself thinking of all the times I said, "Ugh, not Plow. I'm not waiting an hour just for some eggs and pancakes." I finally decided to stop by on a weekday when the line wasn't as bad (still present but not terrible) and I'm so glad I did! Their outdoor seating is obviously great, but sitting at the counter gives you front row seats to the griddle in action. I got their signature dish -- The Plow -- because it includes their most hyped items: the lemon ricotta pancakes and plow potatoes. I also opted for the house-made sausage thinking "ok Plow, were' only doing this once. Show me what you got!" The pancakes were fluffy and soft, just the right balance of sweet and citrus. The potatoes were crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and well-seasoned overall. And the eggs and sausage were just perfect. Ordinarily, I'm the sort of person who needs extra hot sauce and seasoning... especially for something as simple as breakfast, but everything was already really flavorful and well-balanced. Be prepared to wait on a weekend! We waited for almost an hour on a Sunday morning for a table for two. We were able to kill time by walking to a nearby coffee shop and bookstore so it worked out for us; I wouldn't have wanted to stand in front of the restaurant for an hour as there is no waiting area. I don't think I would wait an hour for the next time (maybe come earlier or on a weekday) but the food is delicious! The portion is big so we both had leftovers to take home! read more

Everything was good but not as good as I expected given the hype. We came on a rainy holiday Monday anticipating a shorter wait than usual. We were given an estimated wait of 30-45 minutes for a party of two (great!) and ended up waiting 90 minutes (not so great since we could have escaped the rain if we were told this upfront). The lemon ricotta pancakes, potatoes, and buttermilk biscuit were the best items. I would come back here to try other dishes but it's not worth waiting more than an hour. read more

I must talk about the wait time for this place. It's INSANELY long. Honestly it's the most I've ever waited to eat at a place my entire life. We were a party at 3 and waited over 2+ hours. I get that it's a smaller restaurant, but their seating needs work. The hosts are unsympathetic about it too. The food is great though, I must say. We didn't wait too long for our food. The biscuit is a must, that dang honey butter is unreal. Lastly, the server part of service is also efficient. Prices are fair to high, but you can taste the quality. I wouldn't go back because of the tremendous wait time, but go at your own risk! read more
Came here yesterday for brunch and it was amazing!!! We shared the Prosciutto and Gruyère Sandwich and the Plow. It was a great mix of everything. The loved the ricotta and lemon pancakes as they weren't too sweet. The sandwich was a little salty but nothing a little ketchup couldn't fix. The star of the show was the potatoes. I'm a huge fan of roasted potatoes and these were fantastic. Soooo crispy on the outside and seasoned with rosemary!! The waitress was very nice and checked in on us multiple times despite being busy. Moreover, we waited a little less than an hour on Saturday at 12 which is impressive for any brunch spot in SF. The place is a little tight in side and you will get bumped by people trying to squeeze by. I would recommend a table outside if it isn't too cold. Definitely an amazing brunch spot. read more

The inside is very cute & cafe like! they have tiny tables & i would suggest going early but if you don't no worries there just tends to be wait. We got here around 10 & sat down around 1050, thankfully time went by fast because we walked around & there was a bookstore around the corner with such a nice owner if you are wanting to look around while you wait. We ordered Toast & House Jam The Plow & The Fried Egg Sandwich The jam was soooo tasty! i'd buy a container if possible, & the bread is very crunchy. The Plow had very good Potatoes can taste the rosemary in it especially, which is my favorite part! The eggs were scrambled soft, so if that's not your type specify how you want that. The Ricotta pancakes were very smooth & more dense than airy! It was my first time trying them & it wasn't as bad as i had expected! My boyfriend had the fried egg sandwich & because it is fried it tends to be a bit "tougher" in a way to bite at first, to avoid the yolk popping try punching holes in it first with a knife or cut in half! but overall experience was great! staff was really nice! One of the best brunch places in SF! I have gone here several times and each time I come I am never disappointed! The service here is great and the wait time can very. My go to is The Plow which are eggs, potatoes, choice of protein, and lemon ricotta pancakes! Every time I go here I always finish every single bit of the plate and never take it home. The potatoes are the best potatoes I have ever eaten! I always eat the pancakes last as it's like a dessert to me! The menu is small which is great! You also can't do substitutions which is interesting but definitely understandable. Love it so much here will definitely keep on coming back :) read more
I wanna give 3.5 stars - good food, but not worth an hour plus wait? Went on a Friday morning for breakfast, was told 45mins to an hour wait when we checked in, and it took exactly an hour to be seated. Plus if you add in another 10mins to order, and another 15mins ish for the food to arrive, you're basically looking at a 1.5hr wait total before you actually eat anything. Food is good though. We were SO hungry after the wait that we gobbled everything down. We got the Plow, and the French Toast. Lemon pancakes were great, so soft and perfect flavor! potatoes were good and crispy. French toast with the peach compote and cream was also good, perfect sweetness and softness. Eggs were okay okay. Service was okay I guess. It depends on how you see it. The waiter was very friendly, BUT had long conversations with the customers. A quick 30seconds to a minute of conversation, fine. But when it's a full five minutes conversation when there is a line outside the door with people waiting for an hour, it's just not the best thing to do. Just my humble opinion. Overall unless the wait time drastically changes, I don't see myself coming back just for the food. read more

This is such a cute breakfast spot! The service was great and the food was to-die-for; it's worth all the hype you hear about it. My friend and I came together on a Friday morning around 10 am, and only had to wait about 30 minutes. We were seated inside, and were immediately given water and then approached by our waitress. We couldn't decide what to get, so our waitress gave us recommendations and was gracious enough to give us extra time to look at the menu. We ordered: - Drip coffee: Tasted great and the menu says it's from Equator Coffee; love that they serve local. - Arnold Palmer: Served with a melon-flavored lemonade; my friend liked this. - Porchetta Sandwich: Came with onion jam, arugula, aioli, and a side of crispy potatoes. - Prosciutto + Gruyere Toast: Ordered this per the waitress' recommendation; came with a fried chili egg on top and the potatoes on the side. The toast was thick and was the right balance of soft but crunchy. The menu has so many great items that I need to come back! The wait staff was so attentive and friendly, and the interior was cozy. Food: 5 This is THE BRUNCH to try in SF. Consistent perfection in every part of the dish - crispy potatoes, flavorful & soft eggs and meat, and fresh pastries/pancakes. If you ever get to sit at the bar, you can watch your meal being prepared in front of you. Service & Ambiance: 4 Understandably, wait times can be a little wild, and be prepared for the cold if you're seated outside (blankets provided). But even on crowded days, the staff are so kind! Wishing there was a queue system to receive a call-back rather than waiting in crowds outside the restaurant waiting to hear your name. read more

if I can give zero stars I would , they had us waiting for 2 hours and had everyone seated even tho they were bearly arriving, they had everyone go in before us , we kept asking checking up very kindly and still didn't feel like it mattered. The food took so long as well and we asked to be seated outside and they didn't even listen , the food was already so cold and not fresh when they brought it to us , they made me feel so unwelcome will never go back. the lady in the picture gave so much attitude and was looking at us very bad. I was finally able to try this SF brunch staple after all these years! Came in on a weekday morning with a friend and it was busy; we were seated within 15-20 minutes upon arrival. However, it did get more packed as time passed by. I ordered the plow breakfast platter which came with eggs, sausages, potatoes, and lemon ricotta pancakes. The potatoes and pancakes were definitely the highlight of my meal! The potatoes had the perfect amount of crisp and seasoning while the pancakes had such a nice, sweet, and tart flavor. I did feel as if we were packed like a can of sardines inside the restaurant. There wasn't too much space between each table, which was slightly awkward. I also wished that they had a more extensive coffee menu! I'd definitely come back, and I recommend coming early!! Parking wasn't too horrible but it can get annoying just like anywhere else in the city. read more

Waited an hour but it was so worth it!! We checked in around 10:30, seated by 11:30 and served within 15 minutes of ordering. We got the Plow with chicken apple sausage and over easy eggs and a french toast. The french toast was amazing! Super fluffy, warm, and the caramelized apples and whip cream were a great finishing touch. We also enjoyed the Plow, the potatoes were delicious and the sausage was very savory. The service was helpful, attentive, and always ready to fill up our water cups. The wait wasn't the greatest, so I would recommend going super early or just to use that time to walk around the area. It's super cute and there are lots of things to do in the area (cafe, bookstore, etc). read more
Always love coming to this place. Come here for your comfort breakfast food: from the fluffy pancakes to the beautifully rich egg yolks. Will be busy on the weekends, so come during the off hours. Got the Plow and the prosciutto toast: both were delicious. The roasted potatoes here are top notch, crunchy on the outside and nice and fluffy on the inside. Seasoned with rosemary and with the crispy end bits to add a delicious crunch. The Hong Kong milk toast is a nice try, but I'd skip it and go to a local Canto place for that. read more

Not sure if that's a win but the wait didn't feel too long since the weather was super nice and there were a few nice areas to sit and wait. There's also a few coffee shops in the area and I noticed a lot of people going for coffee during their wait. I don't know if it was because I was so hungry when we started eating but the food was so good. We came for the lemon ricotta pancakes specifically.. and I still think about them. They were small but I preferred it that way.. I can never finish pancakes that are bigger than my face. The potatoes were perfectly crispy and the fatty bacon was so good. We also ordered the buttermilk biscuits and a side of the pork sausage patties which were both incredible. The only one we could have done without was the French toast.. we were on the fence about it, the server convinced us to get it, and it was a bit of a let down compared to the rest of the dishes. We tried this place for the first time and it did not disappoint. We had to wait for about 30 minutes for a party of 5 on a Thursday. We each ordered an entree and also had a shared plate of custard French toast. Everything was really good. The coffee here was excellent. I would definitely come back. read more

What kind of lines or wait times M-Thurs ~ 9:30 10 am?
The busiest times for Plow are early morning through lunchtime. This restaurant is very small and popular and my recommendation would be to go towards the end of their day. We did that and only waited 5 minutes!

What is the wait like on Monday at 9am?
Shouldn't be long but the earlier you come the better. I'm not sure I've ever waited at all when arriving before 8:30
