Went here at peak brunch hours. There was a decently long line. Didn't know we had to check in with the hostess, but did so once we found out. Since we were a table of 2 and would sit first available, we actually got in faster. Once you order at the cashier, they tell you your table number. Service across the board was good. this was my first time trying this place, and I will say I do need to give them another chance and dine in instead of doing take out and try different menu items. The wait to enter can get long but it moves relatively quickly as it's a fast casual type of sit down restaurant where you order and pay at the counter first, and then are seated at your table. I ordered the "Breakfast Burrito" ($14), a side of fruit ($5) and a Kid's Pancake Breakfast ($8) for my little one which came with one large pancake, an egg, and your choice of bacon, chicken or pork sausage along with a drink in which we got OJ. The pancake was sizable and tasted fluffy and yummy. The Breakfast Burrito came with a side of red sauce and tasted decent but honestly was really small especially for the price. However, that's no reason to detract a thing from Poached. The service was GREAT. The staff was attentive even though they didn't have to be. We got checked on, we received water (despite it being self-serve), and had our table pre-bussed. The food blew me away. I got the classic breakfast with chicken sausage, 3 eggs, toast + hash. A classic combination that runs the gambit of "is this going to satisfy me?". At Poached, it really did. The toast was so good. Best toast I've ever had, and I'm not kidding. I've had a lot of toast. This toast was so good for no reason. The eggs? Fluffy, full, and joyous. The hash was unique and was more than just a great filler. The sausage was great quality, juicy, and flavorful. I ordered the basic breakfast which came with eggs, meat (bacon), hash browns and toast. It was served with homemade ketchup and jam and I split the breakfast with my husband since he wanted some protein. He ordered a stack of pancakes which came with berries, powdered sugar and syrup. The only issue I have is that he wanted exactly what I had but to add a single pancake to his meal which he was willing to pay for. The downside is that it's not offered here, so he had to order a full stack of pancakes and waste most of it because he only wanted one in addition to his meal. Weird policy and one I'd recommend changing. If I can buy a side of potatoes or protein for $5, I should be able to buy a pancake or toast for the same amount. Was in the OC for Tanaka farm pumpkin patch and wanted to try a new breakfast brunch spot. Found this cool little gem. Initially we tried to go when they opened (before the pumpkin patch) but the line was long so we had to come back. Good thing we did because we were able to get our order in and seated. My huevos rancheros hit the spot with the nicely toasted top hash browns, scrambled egg (egg can be done to your liking), crispy corn tostadas with black beans on top, underneath that there was the chorizo (although i wish i had more under there), crema, queso fresco with salsa fresca and cilantro). Every bite was delicious with fresh ingredients and crispy tostada made it that more enjoyable. My wife's chilaquiles rojo was just as good with the avocado and poached eggs. She really enjoyed her dish. Nice and crispy with excellent flavors. Now the classic waffle was pretty darn delicious. I liked that it was thin large circumference waffles with fresh berries, and that vanilla whip and powdered sugar took it to the top. Drizzle that with syrup and you got yourself a damn good waffle. I am a sucker for waffles and after seeing the menu i see they have a churro waffle. That will be the next waffle i try. All in all we had a great food experience at poached thats served some very well made fresh dishes that everyone should try for themselves. The atmosphere is very bright and inviting. And the establishment is also clean which I think is something to recognize. The servers work fast to bring your food to you and to provide any refills. Mine and my fiancé first -- AND LAST-- time here. When we got there, it's pouring rain, and the host stand at the front of the building outside just has a sign that says, "The line starts here" and a line of people formed on the side of the building underneath the cover of the nearby walkway. So, we just get in the back of the line, and we see people leaving the restaurant but nobody from the line is getting called inside, even though we've been waiting a few minutes. Confused, we head inside to see if there's something we missed or anything we need to do to check-in before getting in line. We walk up to entrance and head straight to the ordering counter. The employee behind the counter greets us, we ask about the line, and she says "Oh, I can get your name on the list for 2. It should be like a 10, maybe 15-minute wait." Great, that was easy! That's when I said that they should have someone go outside and tell everyone waiting in line to come check-in up front because it's really confusing. The woman I'm talking to behind the counter says, "Oh yeah, I know, usually we have someone (and points to a ~stellar~ employee!) outside who goes out and takes everyone's name but she gets busy inside, so it sometimes takes a while." At that point, I was already ready to move on outside, happy to have been helped, but the lady is still talking to me about how they need better signage, and whatever, because she was just trying to be apologetic and understanding of our situation. And then Anna comes up!! Anna, comes directly up to my fiancé and I and steps between us and the woman at the ordering counter, completely cutting off our conversation. She says "I'm going to help you outside" super curt and like rolling her eyes and clearly annoyed. My fiancé, myself, AND even her own coworker behind the counter are all completely shocked and silent, my mouth agape thinking of how INCREDIBLY rude that was. Then Anna says, "just go outside." My fiancé and I just literally stopped and stared at each other like 'what is going on right now' while she basically ushered us to the door, in the pouring rain, following right behind us with her clipboard full of names that she's been neglecting. Honestly, I was mad, like about to make a little bit of a scene type mad. My fiancé was hangry and he wanted to leave and go somewhere else, but it was just too much work at that point, especially with the pouring rain. Luckily, Anna saved the day and eventually came outside to all the lowly people and took everyone's name in line. Also, as we were waiting, we saw people who arrived after us go in and basically ask the same questions because of the bad signage and Anna was MUCH nicer to those people. Once we finally were approved by Anna to enter the building, which honestly was a solid 10 minutes like the woman behind the counter said, we got in line at the ordering counter. We were able to order with the same woman we were talking to when Anna first cut us off. The woman was incredibly apologetic to my fiancé as he was paying for our order and said that she was sorry about what Anna had done. My fiancé, being a pleasant and unconfrontational person just shrugged it off and said thank you, but honestly, Anna's behavior was absolutely not ok. The dining experience was basic. The ambiance of the place was nice, everything was clean and the art on the wall is cute. They also have a lot of seating inside and outside. The drinks came out fast as well as the food. Our meals were good, but not great. I got the Chilaquiles Verde, they were mid. ALSO, before we left, I overheard the table next to us say that they forgot to order a latte and went back to the counter to order one and they couldn't because they had already closed down the latte machine. They close at 2 p.m. and they had already closed down the machine at 1:48 p.m. I know it's basically 10 minutes, but like.... you're still technically open.... In the restaurants that I worked at in the past, if we ever did something like that and my manager found out about it, we'd be in some trouble for sure. Overall, would never go back and would never recommend to anyone that I like. The food was nothing I would ever think about, crave or desire. The atmosphere was basic. The drinks you can get anywhere, absolutely nothing special. Anna was rude, mean, ridiculous, discriminatory even? Thoughts and prayers for Anna and everyone who has to work with Anna, can't be easy. Recommend a poached egg with it to keep the oil amounts down as the chorizo is quite oily. I liked the crispy texture of the hash browns but couldn't finish it because there was a cream like taste to it that made it too rich.
