I had bookmarked this place for a while and thought today was the best day to drop by. I was at the nearby mall and had swung by this place afterwards to order lunch for to go. I showed up around noon and this place was already packed. I proceeded to the cashier and ordered the pocketmon. After I paid, I stood by the side and patiently waited for my food. A few minutes later, I heard my name and the cashier told me that my order was ready for pick up...at the end of the station. I quickly grabbed my food and left. As soon as I got to my next destination, I immediately digged in. My pocketmon was delicious! All the ingredients were fresh but I just wished it was slightly bigger so I can have a few more bites. So the pocket is held together by a soy paper, wrapped rice and filling. The sides were cooked to perfection, the pork gyoza was nice and crispy, the popcorn chicken had a nice batter and was also crispy, reminiscent of chicken karage. The tempura was perfectly crunchy with a nice assortment of veggies. The Osaka fries were wild! Imagine takoyaki but with fries....so good we ordered 3 of them. The staff was super friendly! Sushi pocket is very similar to Sushirrito, but i find it much more filling and taste much better. For our first time at Sushi pocket my girlfriend and i order the Spam and Eggs Musubi, the Trio, the Dragon and the Osaka Fries. We definitely were way more full then i had anticipated. Everything tasted fresh and was packed full of flavor, while being very balanced. Enter Pocket Sushi! Easy, mess-free sushi that you eat out of hand. The rolls are thick, tightly rolled and the bottom half is wrapped in food service paper. We had the Red Dragon (spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, unagi, avocado, crunchy, teriyaki sauce, spicy mayo sauce) and the PocketMon (imitation crab, salmon, shrimp tempura, cilantro, avocado and miso dressing). We preferred the PocketMon, as the Red Dragon was too sweet, spicy and saucy for our liking. We also ordered the Osaka fries. Delicious novelty fries! Osaka is famously known for their okonomiyaki, a savory, flat-top grilled Japanese pancake. If you've had okonomiyaki, some claim it's healthy because of the cabbage-base, you know it's actually pretty heavy because of the batter and sauce drizzles. Here, instead of cabbage and batter, you get perfectly crispy fries topped with traditional okonomiyaki sauces and bonito flakes. Warning if you don't like bonito flakes! Sushi sandwich anyone? I have been to pocket sushi a few times now. Usually getting one of two spicy options right off their sumenu, the Red Dragon or Hot Pocket. You can easily understand how to make a custom pocket sushi as well with tons of options even real crab meat. Every time has been just as good as the first time I tried when they opened a couple years ago. Super flavorful, the tempura shrimp has been crispy. The portion for price is very good as well. I have seen many vendors come in and out of that particular space and hope pocket sushi is the one that stays. It literally is ready 2 minutes after you order and so convenient with not needing utensils at all. My big critics I say is the miso soup, huge miss. It seems like instant miso mix with a piece of tofu. I stick to its name sake, pocket sushi. I will be returning again and again in hopes pocket sushi is a success and can spread. Would love more to try this awesome and unique sushi experience. Pandemic Update: If you are visiting during these crazy time and interested in take out, just order online. Pocket Sushi is a new concept of Sushi in sandwich form. Easy to eat on the go, or take it to enjoy at the ballpark on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. My personal favorite is the Spicy Tuna Pocket with creamy Wasabi sauce and Soy Wasabi dipping sauce on the side...(did I mention I like Wasabi?) And don't forget a side of Veggie Tempura with Miso dipping sauce or Osaka Fries to round out the meal!! So tasty! I've got two of the pickiest eaters ever in my two boys.
