"Loved the Lexington Salad!!" I checked in the the Hotel Indigo a little too late to hunt for a place to eat and had my dog with me so I wanted something close and quick. I was very pleasantly surprised when I read the menu for Poets. Perfect solution for a hungry traveler with a love for good food. The restaurant is right inside the Hotel Indigo, a hip boutique IHG hotel in a converted YMCA. The decor is fun and welcoming, the bartender was fantastic, and the menu was perfect! I ordered the Lexington Salad which is a signature dish. It was wonderful! The nicely dressed ceasar salad was topped with two crab cakes, grilled shrimp, and salmon. There was lots of tasty parmesan cheese and it was more than enough to fill me up. I had to leave some in the bowl. I think it was $16. Heard about there drag brunch so decided to try them out for regular breakfast. Menu fairly normal. Got basic two eggs over easy with sausage toast and has brown. Might be due to so close to end but eggs not fully cooked as white still runny. Toast not toasted and brought me grape when asked for strawberry. Lox got to go was missing cream cheese. Place was nice and liked USB outlet in table as often carry cable for backup battery but not plug. Sausage was tasty and told lox tasted good and onions smelled very fresh. Will give them one more try for brunch on weekend and chalk it up some of the problems to end of shift on Labor Day. read more

So...when Indigo first opened a month ago, my co-workers and I were thrilled. The food was great. Service was timely. We dined here for lunch so much that we've managed to eat here at least six times. Unfortunately, I decided that today will be my last visit unless someone tells me that Poets got it together again. We noticed the quality declining around the fourth time we visited but figured it was a one time deal. Well, it seems that the one time deal is the way Poet's has decided to do business, at least for lunch. Today was especially terrible! Our waitress was very sweet as usual. She's been with Poets since it opened. She was especially frazzled today, understandably so since she was the only one serving every table. Where's her help?! One server for more than five tables filled with lunch goers?! Then there's the kitchen. This is the bane of the issue. How is it that the menu has remained the same, but the ingredients and prep of the meal has drastically changed for the worse? Additionally, it took more than 45 minutes from placing our order to receiving our food. I hope Poets improves all around because it started off by showing its potential but the drastic decline is worrisome. read more

I feel a little bad only giving this place three stars, because there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. It's a hotel bar, but a step up from the average hotel bar. The space feels huge thanks to some seriously high ceilings and low tables, but for a Thursday night it was pretty full. The decor is classy and modern (it'd be a great first date option), with a beautiful white bar. They've snuck in a single TV to play sports without it being overwhelming. The bartender was attentive and friendly. Prices are par for the course - not cheap, but not ridiculous - with a small but very well-priced happy hour menu. On the evening we went, they had a whiskey and jazz evening going on, with a live band set up in the room across the lobby space. While that kept the music in the bar at a very pleasant background level, it did mean that the band were literally playing to an empty room despite the place being filled. Whiskey-wise, they had brand reps from Old Forrester delivering samples, and half price Old Forrester Old Fashioneds and Manhattans on the menu for the evening. On the down side: while the location is in Mt Vernon, the front entrance on W Franklin doesn't remind you of that which is a shame. The happy hour menu was great value but not a great selection - $3 drafts, but only on a couple of light lager/pilsner-type beers, and rail mixed drinks, despite a great cocktail list. We didn't eat, but I saw a couple of the happy hour food options come out and they didn't inspire me to want to order. My Old-Fashioned was not a great version - lacking some of the sweetness I'd expect, although I did get spoiled with the amount of cherries (which, let's be honest, are half the reason I order Old Fashioneds). Ultimately, I will come back on the occasional Thursday for the jazz trio before moving on elsewhere, but somehow it's not otherwise a destination to me. read more

The thing about this restaurant is that the food is really good. The restaurant is in the lobby of the hotel and is separated by what looks like a room divider. It isn't very big and when we got there, not many patrons. There were two open tables near the windows that had what looked like comfortable chairs. We asked the server if we could sit there and she said the tables weren't cleaned. Instead of offering to clean one off, she suggested we sit at a different table that did not have those same chairs. A while later a second server came to take care of us. We ordered the crab jalapeno dip for an appetizer, then the Indigo burger and chicken and waffles as our lunch entrees. After 20 minutes, the server brought out the appetizer and then went back and immediately brought out the entrees; enough time for one bite of the dip. Ridiculous. But as I said, the food tasted great. Just not good enough for us to overlook the rude woman we dealt with first nor the clear inability to serve food properly by the second. Too many other options in Baltimore. Too bad because this place could be good. Also, medium rare meat isn't red. It's pink. read more

Visited on a Thursday night where they happened to have a jazz band so it helped me to relax from a rough day at work. The happy hour food specials are great but the drink specials are not as "happy." Our bartender was hilarious and knowledgeable about the hotel and its owners but most importantly about the food. His recommendations were spot-on with the exception of the onion rings. The beer batter game was real and the taste was delicious but I just couldn't deal with the amount of grease on them so I sent them back. During happy hours I ordered the fried pickles and was tickled by the fact that they were sweet pickle chips (my fave). I do wish they had more of a selection for dipping sauces though. For dinner, I had a veggie burger that was filling and delightful and enjoyed a side salad with it instead of any more grease. read more

Finally decided to stop in and pay a visit to Hotel Indigo. Love the atmosphere and the ambiance! The bartenders John Hill and John Hartzell are nice guys and can make great recommendations on food and drinks. They've only been open since mid- June which is why I decided to just stop in... you know... time to work out the kinks... I had the old bay wings which were different... had a dry rub... a little bit of a kick. It's a great date night spot or if you're going to have a dinner party. Give them a try. I would rate higher, but I only had wings and wine... maybe staff are friendly, polite, and attentive. Eh, this place is OK. Stayed here for a wedding weekend and ate/drank at Poet a couple times. The breakfasts are nothing special, I would definitely explore a little more if I were to stay another day. Had the Breakfast Bowl and was quite disappointed. Same with the Crab Benedict and their Old Bay Bloody Mary. They have a decent cocktail list. I had a cucumber jalapeño margarita which is usually my kind of thing but the sour mix was a little overpowering. People seemed to really like the blackberry smash. Absolutely a good addition to the Mount Vernon neighborhood. John and the rest of the bar staff are always pleasant when I am there, and the food is always on point. Fave cocktails are the Charm City Sparkler and the Monument Gin Honey Fizz. Some of my fave dishes are the seared salmon, crabcake sandwich, and the chicken and waffle sandwich as well. The salads are really good as well, the Lexington Market salad which is a ceasar salad with ( topped with 2 mini crab cakes, grilled salmon,blackened shrimp, old bay croutons), is really delicious and priced just right. During the week, happy hour is always a plus here to as well. Monday through Friday, from 5-8, there are $3 Draft Beer, $4 House Wine and;$6 Rail Martinis. And weekly food specials as well, Monday is $10 Mussels and Fries, Tuesday is $6 flatbreads and Wednesday is $1 slider(Beef, pork and Chicken), they also have crabcake sliders, but you know they are not apart of the 1 dollar deal, so forget it lol. The good first. My wife's Martini was nice and strong. The mediocre next. The Cuban panini sandwich was anything but a Cuban sandwich. The ham looked like it was cut off of a big generic roll from Giant or ShopRite. The rind was still intact. There was no attempt at all to hide the fact that this was generic meat, disguised as ham. The fresh pork was average. Way too much yellow mustard, and why does yellow mustard need to be on a Cuban sandwich anyway? Lastly, and most importantly, where was the garlic butter? Now the bad. Cole slaw. This had to be the worst cole slaw I have ever eaten, in my entire life. It was pure Miracle Whip, with badly cut cabbage and carrots, not even suitable to serve your mother-in-law. What self respecting chef would let something like this come out of his kitchen, unless he was used to working a prison cafeteria? Yes, it was that bad. Now I understand why the waiter asked if we would like to have french fries or onion rings with the sandwich, when the menu clearly listed that coleslaw comes with it. Sometimes it's best to relinquish control to your waiter/bartender, especially when he makes your wife a stiff drink. Now the qualifier. We only had one menu item. The gigantic onion rings the woman at the bar next to us looked like huge donuts. She was a neighborhood local and also had french fries, along with her red wine. Went for breakfast after staying the night at Indigo. Will never go back here again. There were 8 of us at the table, 4 of us came in late. They lost the order for the first 4! They came and told us this after 40mins of waiting. So then they put in an order for all 8 and the food arrived 30 mins later. The server did not come to ask if we needed anything, he had originally brought out 3 glasses of water. When we asked for water for the rest of us he couldn't figure out how many more glasses to bring- we suggested he just bring us a pitcher. One of us got a cup of coffee- the server brought a cup over and spilled it all over the saucer, and didn't even bothering apologizing. My friend and I asked asked for tea, and the server only brought enough hot water for one cup. The food itself was nothing to even talk about- it lacked any of sort of flavor. I ordered the breakfast bowl and it was bland. Would not recommend this place for poor service and lack of quality of food, especially for its price. read more

Although we enjoyed staying at the hotel, this restaurant was one of the worst. The restaurant was nearly empty, and still we waited almost 40 minutes for our food. We ordered simple breakfast, to make it easy and avoid mistakes, but still my potatoes were burnt and our eggs were overcooked! The server first took our plates to the wrong table, left them, picked them up and just brought them over to our table! We asked to send my potatoes back as they were burnt, and of course, the server brought out a second plate of the same burnt potatoes. After we saw that the eggs were overcooked, we finally got up to leave, and the server had the nerve to still ask us to pay for the drink!! No courtesy and they can't even get simple orders right. After an hour of being hungry and now disappointed, we left and found and Irish pub to dine in. Don't waste your time - simply an incompetent staff. read more

I downloaded Yelp specifically to write this review. That's how bad my experience was. The food was decent but it took over an hour and a half to be served. When the bill was paid, the server never ran the credit card. He later called me and accused me of stealing and lying. After coming back to the restaurant to pay the bill, I was treated rudely by the front manager. This was a most unpleasant experience and ruined a night that was supposed to be a special and joyous occasion. I will not be returning to this restaurant and will discourage my friends and guests from going there in the future. read more

One of orders was wrong and she said she would be back to fix it. Instead came to drop off food order. We had others join us, we asked again if we could order the replacement for the drink that was wrong and if the other folks could order and she said she would be back but never came back.
