This is my favorite Poke Bar in Monterey county, by far. Freshest fish and other ingredients. As a pescatarian, it truly matters to me where I eat. The Salmon is so fresh it melts in your mouth like butter! I'm also a big fan of the scallops and Tuna. Note, their spicy tuna really is spicy, it's good, but you'll be sniffing the whole way through it :) I feel the portion sizes are generous and for the money I pay, a value. We have a dog and the owner cared so much she put some outdoor seating for us! Now that's Service! Checkout the wall mural, I learned a lot about the local Fort Ord history. As a navy brat I greatly respect those that honor and cherish our military and it's history. I'll definitely come back again and again. I highly recommend this place. read more

Probably one of the best Poke I have ever had. I got a big bowl and chose "half & half" base (brown rice and spring salad). On top, I added salmon, tuna and scallops and several healthy veggy toppings. Their secret dressing (with a recommended mix by the "chef") was unbelievable... all the pieces of fresh fishes were just melting in my mouth like sashimi. Ok had to come here, I have been waiting since Smash Burger opened. It is still early and it was my first visit. Nice and clean. Nice people who served my food and took my order. I think I really getting old or the music was a little loud that I could not here the servers, I think Im just old . The food is fresh and lots of servings. Bang for the buck. I will return again. I love going here for a bite to eat. I go here at least 1-2 times a week. The staff is very personable and makes me feel valued as a customer whenever I stop by. Much of the staff knows me by name and aways put forth a positive vibe. I hadn't had Poke until I ate here and man is the food good. Everything is fresh and presented well. Have not been here in a while. Ran into the owner bringing something in to the restaurant or just arriving around noon. Prices have gone up, I had a medium bowl and ended up paying over 14 bucks. When you add in a 15% tip, which the checkout system asks for - although you can stipulate no tip for the employees standing right in front of you .... who wants to be cheap? I mean they didn't really wait on the table, they just scoop out what you want. My guy was very pleasant, though. The owner does not go out of her way to be friendly, although she is always civil. There is a place in New Monterey that gives a much larger portion although the food here - especially the seafood - may be a little more fresh. I will update if I am not accurate. Prices here are about as high as they can go, I think. For a special treat, sure, I Try and keep my lunch is at 10 bucks or under, so this will not be a regular thing. I will be hungry in another hour so if there is a complaint, it is the size of the portion. The most positive thing was the freshness of the food. read more

I went with my family and they started with my son's order only. I thought he was going to start over with each person bacause he didn't start anyone else's order. During that time about 15 people lined up behind us and he tried to make us go to the end of the line for the other 4 orders! I questioned it and he agreed that it wasn't right to make us line up again. When he went to serve us the manager told him to make us line up! I don't recommend this place. This was my first time here eating at this place and it was fairly good. I wasn't a fan of poke lab on Alvarado st. In Monterey and for some reason this place just really surprised me. The food quality is really good and fresh and the workers there are very nice. The restaurant is very clean and tidied and I felt relaxed eating there even when it was getting packed from the lunch time rush hour. It is fairly small but they do have tables that can sit up to 4 people comfortably. Will be back in the future. read more

While everyone in there is good and has done a great job for me, Deja is the girl to see in there. She had no problem making the three bowls I needed for my family. My new favorite Poke place in the area! I love poke and have gone to all the places in the area, bu this one is my favorite! The staff is great- I could tell something was different when I walked because they were very helpful and provided lots of options. Then I met the owner sitting at one of the tables, and I could tell why the staff was so great- She hires based on personality and customer service skills and trains like a real mentor. She sees her job as teaching them skills which they can take into their life. A truly inspirational leader! All the fish was really fresh and tasty. I loved that they offered scallops which I haven't seen at other places in the area. In fact, they had a lot of options which weren't available elsewhere. Makes me feel like I have to come back many more times to try a bit of everything. I also love that it's locally owned. The place itself is bright, cheerful and clean. I came here last weekend with my husband. It was our first time trying this place out and we really liked it. The place is clean and staff are friendly and welcoming. The staff made it easy to order and was very helpful, it was my first time there and didn't know which sauces to try out. The freshest fish and ingredients and cleanest poke bar I have seen in the whole Monterey area. Very friendly staff and even got to meet the owner, Jasmine. I went for the first time yesterday and was so hooked I came back today. Not sure what the heck the 1 star reviews are talking about.. There is even 1 from today when I was there talking about small portions? I get the large with an extra protein and the extra cost toppings and am stuffed to the brim. (I can eat 2 triple doubles and fries from in and out, I like to eat large meals). They have a seared peppered albacore and pineapple that are not commonly found at other poke places, also a fresh coconut to drink if you love tropical/Hawaiian flavors as much as I do. This place is close to my house/work, so I've been here at least twice a month since the place opened. When it opened I thought it was a very solid poke place and would probably have rated it a solid 4 stars. The price/portion was not amazing but for the location it was good, the fish always tasted fresh, place was new/clean, staff was nice/friendly. Over time two things have changed for the worse: price/portions has gotten worse I feel like I get less and less each time I go, and staff seems to be less friendly with more of a lets make this fast attitude. Overall if you are just looking for some poke before/after some shopping or a movie the place is fine but not great. Even at a 3/5 stars I will say this is my second favorite poke place in the area, granted my favorite is differently a 4 in a half - 5 star place. read more

Ok guys. We have a lot of poke options now. Personally, I'm fond of Poke Lab but this place is new and closer and has a crazy good rating so we came in for dinner. My husband got salmon, tuna, and spicy tuna. I got shrimp and spicy tuna. We both had the (warm) rice and greens. I put sauces on mine, as did he. We had the shredded crab stuff. I'm not looking for Americanized poke... but I am not exaggerating when I say this was bland, bland, bland. It tasted like nothing. We took it home and I put soy sauce on mine to try to make it more like a sushi roll. It wasn't very helpful. What I can say is it all seemed very fresh. So I appreciate that. Sometimes the greens at other places are wilty and these weren't. It just wasn't great... and when you have poke options every 5 miles, you have to stand out. I'm not sure if it was an off day or what but my first experience there was horrible. I love poke bowls so I was excited to try this place and it was a let down. It was the smallest serving I've ever had at this type of establishment and it cost the most. The server gave the smallest scoops and seem annoyed when I asked for an extra scoop of edamame. The first scoop only had maybe only 5 or 6 pieces. Not impressed with what you get for your money here. I like the Poke lab in Monterey much better. It's the same price but you get more than 3 pieces of salmon and some garnishes. This will not be a popular opinion being a person from New York where you can feed 5 people delicious food for $30. California residents are way too tolerant. I think it's because New Yorkers have had to deal with a ridiculous cost of living for much longer. You vote with your money. A meal that is over $8 should render leftovers the next day.
