Nice casual poke spot in the East Side of Alameda on Park Street. Prices are reasonable. Service is good. I got the regular poke size which was enough for me. The first poke spot which had crawfish and octopus as proteins, but I wasn't brave enough to try them... especially since my coworker told me that crawfish has a burst of ocean flavor. I was like, ok I'll pass this time. I like to visit the ocean, not eat it. Not much else to say. Parking sucks a bit because it's all paid parking, and the side where this spot is located has three parking payment machines that are non-functional... so I don't know how the others paid unless they crossed the street and got their parking receipts from there. Didn't except non-functional parking machines in Alameda out of all places. In fact, I was looking for at least a QR code on the machines that I could use to pay, but no QR codes either. Came to Alameda for a hair cut, and so I decided to stop here for a late lunch first. The place wasn't too busy so service was quick. I had the regular bowl ($13), which have 3 scoops of protein. I got the hamachi, salmon and tuna. The fish cubes was huge, they tasted fresh and good. White rice was the base for me, then I got a little of everything including imitation crab, seaweed salad, green onion, white onion, jalapeno, tobiko. They seem to have good selection of protein, but not much for other toping. For the sauce I picked creamy washabi, which wasn't too bad. I also got the miso soup ($2.50), it was alright, a bit weak in flavor, both the umami and salt component. I always complain how the miso soup at yojimbo is hella salty, but I think the miso soup here could use some more miso or salt. My meal came at a total of 20 buc for a regular bowl, and a miso soup. My favorite poke spot in the East Bay! I've been coming to Poke Koma since they've open, and love the toppings available for customization. I usually go for the regular bowl, which comes with 3 choices of protein, salad/rice, and your choice of toppings. The fish is mixed in nicely with their mild or spicy sauce before being going into the bowl. Nobody wants bland fish in their poke bowls. Top your poke bowl with one of their 5 sauces, my favorite is baja jalapeno. Located on the busy Park St, but I've never had any issues with parking, and there are 2 parking lots nearby. read more

I don't understand the average 4 1/2 star rating. I just got a bowl from here and was super disappointed after all the great reviews. It's the whitest poke bowl I've ever had. The spicy sauce isn't spicy. The sushi rice is tasteless and basically just steam white rice, the spicy tuna isn't spicy, everything is underwhelming and just should be more. They don't even have edamame or other classic poke toppings. The one good thing is that the fish is fresh. I won't go back though. By far my favorite poke place in the Berkeley/Oakland area. I drive out of the way just to come here. Why? PRICE - they do not overcharge you unlike most other places. You can get a large for $14 which is very fair. I've seen other poke places charge $20 for the same size AND you get less scoops of meat there. SELECTION - they have a wide variety of protein selections that are not offered elsewhere. You can get scallops and crawfish here, for instance. The toppings menu is also incredibly long and you could add most of them at no extra charge. ATMOSPHERE - the place is located in a cool area. You can go shopping after you eat. Poke Koma has fish and toppings that are pretty fresh (they have customers rotating in and out, so no chance for the ingredients to sit and spoil), the service is great (experienced server was training a newbie, and I still had a great experience), the pricing is reasonable, and they have reasonably priced SPAM MUSUBI (also spam musubi with tamago aka egg and spam musubi with tamago and BACON). I ordered a small bowl with sushi rice and 3 proteins (bay scallops, salmon, yellowtail), cucumber, onion, masago, avocado, crab meat, wakame (seaweed salad), furikake, fried shallots, crispy fried wonton strips, and several items on the side: ginger, teriyaki sauce (definitely too sweet, glad I got it in a separate container), and lemon aoili sauce (I wasn't a fan, it was pretty bland). I was extremely loyal to Poke Koma for four years of high school, I ate their chicken katsu at least 3 times a week and never had a problem. But I went recently and had that same prepackaged chicken katsu they keep in the food warmer and got awful food poisoning. In retrospect, it looked a bit old when I bought it, the chicken was slightly off color and didn't look fresh. I'm the type to go straight from the airport to the poke counter when taking the island vacay, so how happy was I to hear great poke was so much closer to home? Well, I finally made it in and while I enjoyed the food it just was not poke to me. Here's why: The fish was fresh but it wasn't marinated -- just clean, plain chucks of flesh scooped up and dropped onto the base (in my case Spring Mix, avoiding rice for a bit). The great thing about good poke is the play of sweet and salty with a kick of pepper. That just doesn't come through when the server is ladeling a weak sauce on top of your base+protein+toppings. That fish needs to be swimming in and soaking up all that tasty goodness. That said, service and venue were fantastic. Clean space. Helpful servers. Nice option to get a meal in a to-go bowl in case you want to finish up later. And spam musubi at the register was a cool touch. Still on the hunt for the real deal. Stay tuned. read more

Wow. I loved it. Shocked and amazed. Walked past this place a hundred times, and finally decided to stop in tonight. Large poke bowl with ahi tuna salmon shrimp and all the veggie toppings except for jalapenos and avocado. Tasted fantastic. Fish tasted fresh and there was absolutely no fishy smell or taste. One of my go to poke places for poke. This place is pretty generous on their portions of fish. I got the small bowl. For my base I got half brown rice half salad. My three scoops of protein were salmon, ahi tuna, and yellow tail. There were a variety of toppings and sauces you can choose from. Fish tasted fresh as well as the toppings. The only thing that didn't look too fresh was the avocado, but avocados start turning brown pretty fast when peeled, so I'm not gonna hold that against them. Overall, food was pretty good and I would come back again. Decently priced for good portions. Not as good as traditional Hawaiian poke though, if you are looking for something like that. read more

I was enjoying it that I even decided to immediately give it a rating of 5 stars on DoorDash while eating my food. Since the portion was quite generous in my opinion, I was only able to finish half and decided to finish the rest later in the day. When I started digging into my second half of the meal that was left, I found a strand of hair bunched into the crab salad that was left and immediately lost my appetite after that. I really enjoyed it at first but it fooled me. Human hair tucked in the crab salad, in my poke bowl. Just nasty... They seem to allow for getting mixed bases, I got half brown rice and half spring mix, great way to make sure you get some carbohydrate (but not too much) and some fiber. They DON'T charge extra for avocado as part of your topping, but the price covers it as part of your entire bowl price. This is nice for a change, since most places charges extra for avocado. Husband and I recently moved to Alameda and tried Poke Kona for the first time today for lunch. It was easy to order and customize, fast, easy delivery (through doordash straight from their website!), super delicious, and satisfying. Plenty of protein and veggies and very tasty and fresh. We tried the salmon, shrimp, ahi tuna, and spicy tuna between us and they were all great. I'd add a photo but we gobbled them up so fast I didn't manage to take one. Tip: get sauce on the side. At that time, not being familiar what a poke bowl was, I walked in and glanced quickly at their menu board mounted on the wall. There was no paper menu available for me to take with me to peruse. I have never had a poke bowl even when I was vacationing in Maui over two years ago. I figured I will try it later. After watching the classic movie, Day the Earth Stood Still (circa 1951) at the Alameda Theatre & Cineplex, I told my husband I wanted to check out Poke Koma. He never heard of a poke bowl either. I guess we are two old fogies and so out of touch as to what a poke bowl consist of. I grab a laminated menu from the counter to see what exactly is a poke bowl and what are the ingredients. The bowl comes in two sizes - regular for $10.50; large for $13.50. Poke Koma has signature and custom-made bowls available. The selection for the base is sushi rice, brown rice, spring mix or crab chip. Then it's either 3 scoops or 5 scoops of protein, mild or spicy flavor, more toppings (12 different types) and aioli (3 different flavors), creamy wasabi or teriyaki sauce. The assembling of the bowl is similar to the Chipotle concept. You can pick and choose whatever you desire for your custom-made bowl. Specialties: signature bowls, custom-made bowls, musubi, Hawaiian shaved ice. Cleanliness: Grade A. The place still looks about the same as prior business with the exception of the two surfboards mounted on the wall. The brick inlay on the wall has a Hawaiian theme instead of the Bay Bridge theme. Eats to go: 2 regular bowls. Me: Brown rice, shrimp, crawfish, baby scallops, dash of mild flavoring, chopped white onion, thinly sliced cucumber, imitation crab salad, seaweed salad, avocado and a final touch of drizzled lemon ginger aioli. My husband: same ingredients but with teriyaki sauce. For me, the regular bowl is enough for two meals. It is filling and quite delicious. Value: A regular bowl for $11.50 (tax included) is worth it. During COVID: Had poke once with a friend and it was pretty good! The serving portions are very generous, and pretty quick to assemble. I'd say there was no wait, except for the 2 customer in-store policy. We also had spam musubis which were decent mostly because the spam itself wasn't made on the spot and crispy, but rather pre-made. Still, I would recommend the place. They also have bentos and croquettes, as well as other special rice boxes in the back, which is the best part of Poke Koma. I love coming here for late dinner when I don't have anything at home, and would love a warm meal. read more

Yay Poke!! This spot has a great selection of sashimi: Salmon, Tuna, Scallops, Spicy Tuna, Hamachi, Octopus, Shrimp and even Crawfish! I've never seen crawfish at a Poke place, and this was one of my favorite things to add. For the small portion at $8, you get to select 3 proteins. For the larger portion at $13, you can select 5. You start with your base, sushi rice, brown rice, crab chips, or a mixed green salad. I always opt for half sushi rice, half green salad. Then you choose your proteins, and can opt for spicy or mild. Their house special mild sauce is quite flavorful. Then you add your sides or toppings and by far, this place has the most options for toppings. Even better, avocado is free here. WHATTTT. Lastly, you choose your sauces. I personally prefer their wasabi cream sauce over the actual wasabi. Their spicy aioli is a must have too. Tip - get the sauces on the side in case you want to add more. A little soy sauce also ties the entire bowl together. Since this place opened, I've been here a few times and I can definitely see myself coming here more often in the future. Absolutely hating the trend of using shredded/ground tuna for spicy tuna. This is the second place i've ordered from recently that does this. So unappealing. Ordered 2x spicy tuna, 1x ahi - there were about eight cubes of ahi in my bowl. Delivery fee was also $11. Had I received fresh, cubed tuna, the delivery fee would have been a lot more palatable. +1 star for avocado at no extra charge. read more

Finally an exclusively poke place in the area! I've been here twice since their soft opening, it was that good! The large size is definitely more bang for your buck than the regular bowl. As it comes with 5 scoops for $13.50 while the regular comes with 3 for $10.50. Each additional scoop costs $2. I like to order mine with half spring mix salad and half shrimp chips, they seemed to give me a full bowl of salad even though it was technically 1/2 Top your chip with poke and toppings; perfect hand to mouth delivery!! Then when you're done with your meal grab a Hawaiian shaved ice, ask for extra condensed milk, trust me it'll be 10x better!! I highly recommend tiger's blood. Workers are friendly and will happily give you extra of any toppings as long as you ask. Be careful of jalapeños tho. Room for improvement: -the first day we came they ran out of sushi rice, we came again the next day, they informed me they had also run out. Good thing I was getting salad.. -salmon skin was crunchy the first day (Ono!!) but stale the second day (yuck!) and it ended up sticking to my molars All in all, I would definitely be back. Oh my god. This was the best diy poke spot I've ever gone to, and I've gone to quite a few. At first I was a bit skeptical because it seemed kind of pricey and pictures looked a little skimpy, BUT IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY. The regular size was 3 scoops of fish which was perfect because I love being able to get salmon, hamachi, and tuna, things only got better when I realized AVOCADO IS FREE. Amount of fish was generous, and there was a good amount of seaweed salad, crab salad, and avocado. It was also perfectly sauced, and I also added spicy mayo on top for extra creaminess and flavor which I don't regret at all. I'm sad because I live in SF going to Alameda just for a bowl of poke is a little much, but I definitely will return if I was in the area and had a poke craving!! read more
