I'm so glad this place is in my neighborhood. The poke is so good I won't even deduct a star for not having the açai bowls any longer. Seaweed salad, it's great. Finally made it to the second location of Poke Poke. It's very unassuming but don't worry, the Poke is out of this world! I like that the menu is pretty self explanatory and not overwhelming. Choose your size, then your rice, then which bowl you want and if you want any add-ons. And then enjoy! I wasn't quite sure if I should have ordered the little or big, so I asked the staff. He said he typically gets the little unless he's skipped breakfast. He's also 6'3" and if he advised me to go with the litttle, I'll listen :) I got the spicy bowl with brown rice and added seaweed salad. Mmmmmmmm, it was a true delight. This unassuming attachment to a gas station has proven to be the best poke I've ever had (not sure how it compares to the real deal though). Although I had my hesitations from the outside, the fish was definitely fresh, and the store was very clean inside. My friend and I each had the lil portion with rice and we both left very satisfied. Poke poke is all in all a pretty good place. I love that they do traditional poke and don't try to crowd it with too many toppings. That being said I did find it a little annoying that they have a sign on their drink fridges that the yellow ahi is fresh. Unfortunately the Ahi is previously frozen as I can tell from being a local born and raised on the Island of Kauai. Fresh Ahi has a very tender almost jelly like texture dark red look and frozen is slightly pink tougher texture. I however understand it is hard to get fresh Ahi in Texas without it being outrageously expensive, but it would be nice for full disclosure. I ordered the Aloha poke with came with chili flakes, rice vinegar, sea salt and aloha shoyu. It was fast however I didn't like how the rice vinegar cooked the fish (like lemon juice) and it's got some kick to it if you don't eat a lot of spicy foods. Either way that's my own preference but I think next time I'll order the OG. I will be back! PS: They don't take cash and don't a sign saying so, so make sure you have a card!! read more

Ordered a Signature Shiso Poke bowl. It was super spicy (I'm not a fan of spice) and NO shiso. I added avocado for 2 extra dollars and received 3 very small chunks...yes i did count them....only 3 for 2 extra dollars. Im really sad about the Shiso though. The poke is always fresh, but within the last 3 times I've been there, the rice is always hot, which doesn't go well with the poke. Also the cleanliness of this place is usually not up to par. Really nice guys running the shop the day we were here. It's a poke chain, but they provide a good portion of poke, that's pretty good quality, especially when considering how far from the ocean we are. They let us try some premium grade Tuna and it was actually a bit fishy. The tuna we had in our bowl compared with the special one they let us try tasted much better. Go figure. You can't beat that, no way. Their sauces are the best tasting and they offer a daily special of $3 off the premixed house special poke of the day. The shiso salmon with limu, sea beans and macadamia nuts w extra sesame seeds is my fav. They also offer a stewed chicken and rice dish, pad thai flavored tofu and acai bowls. I usually grab a canned green tea. If I'm at the Congress location, they have kombucha too. I do wish they offered kombucha at both locations. The Hancock location is tiny! Their sashimi quality is really consistent even during the pandemic! The rice is always just right although the seasoning feels a bit lacking. My biggest pet peeve with poke places is the rice because cold/dried up rice can ruin the poke bowl so easily. So I'm always happy to order from Poke-poke if I don't particularly feel like risking it. I usually end up getting the Aloha Poke but Shiso salmon and the spicy tuna are also great. I like the food here, it's quick and hits the spot everything for that reason I come back. My only complaint is that I do think it's about a dollar too expensive per person for the amount of food you get. For this only reason do I not give it 5 stars, a lower price would make me come back more often and leave with a better feeling and not of being slightly ripped of. Rice is very inexpensive. The small is 8 ounces, and if you opt for Hawaiian style you can skip the rice (don't get me wrong their rice is good) and load up on the splendid protein. You can also get your delightful poke on a bed of kale. Meat offerings consist of tuna and you can upgrade to salmon. There is also a vegetarian bowl! You can also opt to build your own bowl with a lovely list of ingredients. I like my bowls Aloha style with scallions and a few other additions. I especially love that they sell La Croix water and Clean energy drinks! This location is smaller than the south and they do not sell alcohol at the north location. I can't quite put my finger on this recent wave of Austin Poke-mania these days, because that stuff always seems more like a hipster app to me rather than an Uchiko or Soto killer. But this particular Poke-Poke chain does offer some tasty stuff, with size, rice, & spiciness options, and lots of different toppings to choose from. Vegheads have their own special poke blend, with an additional tofu dish as well. There's even a menu of acai bowls, although that seems more like breakfast fare to me. I can't help you there. Getting in & out and parking at this second Poke-Poke location can be a little frustrating, and I'm not sure about using that convenience store's parking next door. But the staff here is definitely cool, and happy to make suggestions & explain your options. I was actually tempted to go home & toss my tuna in a very hot sauté pan - why not, it's already seasoned - but then this wouldn't be a poke review. My boyfriend and I used to get poke in Santa Monica and Venice all the time when we lived in LA. How wonderful it is that we can now get poke here in Austin by the same owner of poke poke in Venice! 5 stars for the fish quality and taste, however I have to take 1 star off for what my meal was presented in. We bought the big size (16oz) and it came overloaded in a paper tray. We paid close to $15 for each but I get the vibe it was going for. Casual and beachy... Do you love me? Yes I do! Being fortunate enough to have some sushi rice from asahi imports at home, we picked up a big and small no rice container of customized poke to take home tonight. They really packed the containers full so I felt the $30 price tag was so worth it. The default is ahi tuna but I was in a salmon mood (+$3) and then the good stuff (avocado, masago, and shiso leaf) were extra but the seaweed salad, jalapeños, ginger, and cucumbers were not. I kept it simple with the OG marinde but my spicy parter liked the spicy wasabi marinade. I loooove Hawaiian food and the more poke in town, the better. Only thing better would be if they had loco moco for my raw-fish-queasy friends. Or octopus poke, like I had in Hawaii. But I may be in the minority there. read more

The Wasabi Poke offered a spicy kick that did not overwhelm the flash marinated tuna. JT's Poke Bowl featured a lot of bright, spicy flavors that are ideal for someone who enjoys a bit of heat. The brown rice possessed lots of flavor and substantial texture. The staff was friendly and helpful. There is seating both inside and out. They removed the smelly refuse bins that detracted for the outside seating when this location was the Republic of Sandwich. Came here and got the Tropical Bowl only to receive a bowl of tasteless frozen fruit. The blended part of the bowl was so hard I couldn't even break it with my spoon. The fruit was all also so frozen it hurt your teeth to bite. The bowl was also written as "mango and pineapples" and had mostly frozen bananas (why) and little bits of the tropical fruits. What was the worst is when the super polite person I was eating with went and said it was frozen they said there's nothing they can do. Belated review from Wednesday afternoon when we met a friend of ours here for lunch (he loves this place). It's small and cute, but the tables were not wiped down and the bathroom was fairly disgusting. Definitely an interesting set of characters who work here as well--when one of us asked to do half kale/half rice as the side option (since you can pick either-or), we were told "no" because "it's too hard for us." OK then. Poke isn't our favorite food, so we can't really speak to whether this place is superior or not, but our dishes did taste good and fresh. One of us got a small wasabi (with tuna) and the other got a large half salmon/half tuna original. We liked the seasoning and the value seemed there for the most part, but the large portion was almost $20. Bottom line: you might like this place if you love poke, but you'll have to make do with its less savory features. read more

It's attached to a gas station (third gas station place that I love, lol) so they don't have a big selection for drinks but you can walk next door like we did. We got the 16 oz with rice. The only think I didn't like was the onions but then I'm a picky person when it comes to onions in general, they have to be right in the between of not too crunchy or soft when it comes to poke! It's no Foodland or Kahuku superette poke, but it's fresh and tasty and I'll take it because I live in Texas now. This is the only "mainland poke" place I've been to, and I haven't really felt the need to explore any of the others -- quite frankly the appropriation-of-poke trend is a little upsetting to me, but what does one expect in Austin, also I digress. It's hard to be critical of this place because it's pretty good and surprisingly fresh, to the point that I'm almost suspicious of my judgement (and landlocked seafood/raw fish always gives me pause). I usually get the OG, but recently tried the shiso salmon and 1/2 n 1/2 shiso, and loved both. And despite how sacrilegious I think some add-in options may be, pretty much every iteration of haole poke that my partner has ordered has been tasty. Macadamia nuts, avocado, kale ffs... hate to admit it, but it tastes good. I just don't like to call it "poke", I prefer to call them "ahi salad" with all the non traditional stuffs inside. read more

LOVE Poke-Poke! The guys there are always so pleasant. They have a happy hour every day for at least $2 off your bowl. Parking might be an issue for some (they only have a few stalls in front of the store) but I've never had an issue finding a spot right up front. On the açaí bowls: In my opinion, they have the best açaí in Austin. We live up north but make the trek to this location because it's amazing. Once, we came in for an açaí bowl twice in one day. I get the Whoa Bowl which includes FRESH fruit, granola, dried coconut and peanut butter. On the poke: They have several different signature selections, which I've tried a few of, all of them are very tasty. Typically, I opt for the OG Poke and add some avocado and cucumber. I was born and raised on the Pacific coast, and this is hands down THE best poke in Austin (but I'd also bet it's some of the best in the state). Not sure how they get it here to central Texas, but the tuna still tastes very fresh and of high quality, which is why it's going to cost you a little more than other spots, but boy IS IT WORTH IT. On my last visit I requested the OG and eliminated the rice, subbed in some avocado tomato cucumber salad. Give it a shot and let me know what you think! read more
