Don't they plan, but they see that they're low and they make more but anyway I ordered it and it came to $22, I asked how could that could be and he said well you ordered the spicy salmon I said it didn't say that it was extra and he starts going on about how it's Fourth of July special and everybody knows I said I've never been here before, so how would I know. they could never tell me how anyone would know when there was nothing to indicate that spicy salmon was more than regular salmon. read more

I got to give props to the person who answered the phone because he got every single thing on point via phone! I appreciate the staff for labeling the boxes, so it was easy to identify what was what. The fish was fresh and the food taste so good! They gave such great portions, and I was shocked at the amount of food given. I've been here several times frequently to pick up food for lunch/dinner. It's a nice little place. I usually get a large, half and half (white rice and salad), it already comes with ahi, salmon and albacore but I added spicy tuna for $1.50 more (use to be $1.00), my choice of sauces were miso honey and sriracha mayo. I got all the extras that came with it, except onions and fried onions. I did order 2 scoops of crab meat. The rice was a little bit hard.. there was a good amount of sauce. It wasn't drenched or anything, just wish the sauce had a little bit more flavor. I definitely noticed little differences when I opened the box. It seems to me that this place is under new management. My food didn't taste the same as it did before. It's not bad but it's not that good either. They used to have board games out for entertainment if you were there to eat and chill with friends/family but today I noticed that they didn't have that anymore. The price has went up. It use to be $12.75 for a large, my order would come out to be around $15 because I get extras. Now the total comes out to be a little bit over $17 ($14.60 is the base price.) Most expensive poke I have ever purchased. Sad to say, I probably would not frequent this place anymore. It used to be one of my fav and I would come from eagle rock just to get Pokestuf but now it's probably last (which is 3rd) on my list of poke spots to eat at. I'm very picky with poke. Great fresh food, got a couple of small poke orders and for my first poke experience it did not disappoint. The serving was a filling portion of ahi, salmon sauced up in a blend of mouth savoring Thai spices and mix of greens and brown rice, I would so enjoy on the regular. This is one of the better "build-your-own poke bowl" places. The menu looks quite overwhelming but it's actually quite simple. Instead of choosing what you want, you indicate what you don't want. All you really have to do is choose the size (regular or large), choose base (white rice, brown rice, cha soba noodles, or mixed greens), and choose a sauce (edamame pesto, cilantro yuzu kosho, sriracha mayo, sesame shoyu, sriracha racha garlic, Korean pepper, miso honey, lemongrass ponzu, lemon vinaigrette, or sweet tamari). For base and sauce, you can choose more than one if you like. A standard bowl already comes with big eye (ahi), salmon, albacore, and striped bass for protein; and salad, radish, cucumber, onion, seaweed salad, crab meat, avocado, masago, fried onion, and furikake for topping. In addition to these toppings you can also add cilantro, pickled ginger, kale, Korean pickles, rice cakes, edamame, green onion, sesame seed, red chili flakes, and kukui nuts at no additional cost. Lemon Lemongrass soda didn't taste much like lemongrass but was refreshing and tasty, nonetheless. I love the fixed pricing of this place. $9.50 for regular size poke bowl and $11.50 for large (as of this review). Unlike some places that charge you extra for additional toppings and fish, there are no hidden surprises at the end. There are books and boardgames to keep you occupied while you wait for your bowl. Oh no...what a drop :( Every time I've come here, the menu has changed and become inconsistent. They took out a lot of their free "premium" toppings, and are constantly swapping out their sauces (which could be a good thing). They also take longer than your usual poke "chipotle" style joint as they take your order THEN make the bowl instead of making it as you go. Sometimes the food would be lukewarm and made me wonder if I'd get sick or not. Sometimes the food (once out of 5 or more times) would be cold and on point. I think my final straw was when my friend, who LOVES this place, finally got sick after eating the poke bowl. The fish (salmon in particular) was extra fishy--I assume it was out for too long as they were particularly busy that day--and my friend got sick a little while after consumption. She didn't eat anything else for the rest of the day and the next day as well. I have been on a poke spree, and I am glad that I stumbled upon this gem of a poke shop located in Alhambra! Home of the previous Ice Que shop, PokeStuf is a hearty bowl of poke goodness. The game has definitely changed since I first had poke when I was in Hawaii. It was a simpler time when it was about that nice fish marinated in a rich flavorful sauce on white or brown rice. Since it has moved to the mainland, I am seeing fancy toppings you can add with it and even put it on top of a salad! The setup is similar to other poke places where you go in and order your base (rice, salad, soba noodles), protein, sauce, and toppings. So now that I have sampled several places, what makes a good bowl of poke? It still comes down to the poke and the quality of the ingredients around it. And the fish here was pretty good. I had ordered the salmon and the pieces were actually legit pieces and they had the nice richness that one would expect from salmon. However, what I really appreciated with PokeStuf is that the set bowl already includes a lot of goodies: mixed greens, radish, cucumber, onion, seaweed salad, avocado, masago, fried onions, and sesame seeds. In addition, they have an extra toppings list that you can ALSO add without charge: cilantro, pickled ginger, kale, Korean pickles, rice cakes, edamame, green onion, furikake, red chili flakes, and kukui nuts. Obviously, you should not expect huge pieces of avocado. However, even still, the bowls come out pretty big and after eating my bowl, I was full and content. I really enjoyed the addition of the fried onions for extra saltiness and the roasted flavor that the sesame seeds added. Another thing that I found great about the place was that they do not accept tips. Instead any tips would go toward a charity. Can not hate on a restaurant that does something like that! Their tactic is to already have a set price based on the size you order (Regular: $9.50 / Large: $11.50), regardless of your add-ons. FOOD/SERVICE: The lady that got my order was friendly enough and clarified anything I wondered about as it was my first time visiting. Every bowl already comes with four types of fish (Ahi, salmon, albacore, & striped bass) which is much more than the regular two choices of its other LA competitors before they start charging you for extra fish. Mixed greens is already a part of the bowl no matter what base you choose. I'm a bit intrigued by those soba noodles.. They also have some pretty different flavors, I chose sriracha mayo (most popular). As for add ons, they have plenty! None of which costs extra! There's already so much that comes with the bowl itself such as seaweed salad & avocado. These Pokestuf bowls will definitely get you stuff.. DRINKS/DESSERT: Ah! Another poke place with other drinks aside from the usual soda fountain. I tried their Thai tea & was pretty pleased. My next Pokestuf bowl will most likely come with a jasmine milk! :) There is also a honey yuzu & a blood orange jasmine that may catch your attention. Lastly, they have dessert! Drove by and finally they were open! Been wanting to try this place for some time. Kind of a strange setup, you can't see as they are making your bowl. Probably wouldn't be a problem but unfortunately like a couple of previous reviews mentioned, there were items in the bowl they made me that I specifically did not want in there. What's the use of specifically ordering the items I want (and more specifically things I don't want) if they're going to just throw it together with whatever they feel like, I asked for half salad and the greens were pretty much all wilted. Poke with a more different spin than most. What strikes me as a great option is their soba noodles in their poke (instead of rice/greens as the only option). I also enjoyed their sauces (especially the Sriracha garlic and honey miso) and that they let you sample them beforehand. Their toppings are pretty standard (an assortment of the traditional onions, furikake, etc) although since they're all mixed together, I feel like you get a bit less. Their fish quality is good, but I wish that they had a but more than 3-4 fish choices per day. Other poke places, they will make the poke bowl in front of you while you pick the ingredients (Chipotle style). This one particular location takes your order first and then they make it behind your back which I am not a fan of. I would really like to see the quality of the food before I decide what I want. Anyway, they offer regular and large bowls - I went with regular. All bowls come with a mix of tuna, salmon and albacore. Those are the fish I usually get anyway. I bit disappointing that they don't offer yellowtail or other types of fish but it is what is it. All the toppings and add-ons they offer are nothing out of the ordinary. What did stand out was their sauces though. They offer many unique sauces such as Thai Chili Lemon, Lemongrass Ponzu and many others so that was a plus. So once they made the bowl behind your back you pick it up at the counter. It comes in a square plastic container which is a first but it was bigger than I expected so I didn't complain. Ingredients were fresh and the rice was nice, slightly warm and fluffy. However, as I was eating more and more I realized there was no albacore??? Wtf? Then I look at my friends bowl and he didn't have any either. We only had tuna and salmon. Another thing was the cut on the fish. The tuna was cut into tiny little pieces while the salmon was in some big ass chunks so there was no consistency there. Bowls also comes with avocado which I barely had any!!! I thought it was going to be sesame oil, but instead it's actually like sesame paste so it's thick and creamy. -Pretty stingy with the free toppings, I had to dig around to find some of the stuff. The food is good and worth a visit. Although today I wasn't a fan of the albacore but still enjoyed my dish. I love adding seaweed and crab imitation it really brings the bowl together. Then you pick the fishes. The default is everything. Then you pick the sauce. They have so many kinds!! I tried the miso honey and it was delicious. (Tip: you can ask to sample the sauce before deciding!) then you pick your toppings. The unique ones were kukui nuts and crispy onions. The food was bomb and affordable, like $9.25 for a medium bowl. The atmosphere is awesome too!! They have those typical tea house game sets for you and an abundance of cookbooks! Mostly vegetarian as well!!
