    Polish platter

Our group of 10 came here for lunch after a hike and we absolutely loved the food! The service was great and ambiance very comfy. I had the Polish platter and more than enough food, leftovers for tomorrow. Looking forward to coming back next time we're in the area!

This place is fantastic, ran across it for lunch while working in the area. I asked what would be good for a quick to go lunch. She replied with cabbage rolls. They were ready very quickly and they were fantastic! Thank you. The picture doesn't do it justice as I'm sure eating at there would have been great too.

Don't blink as you'll miss this little gem in a strip center. Nice atmosphere and welcoming staff, but the true highlight was the food. My great grandmother was Polish and I've had some pretty good meals growing up. However Polka Dot delivered on a meal that exceeded my expectations and honestly the best bite I've had from a restaurant in at least a couple years. I ordered the daily special of pork ribs over braised cabbage, a side of dumplings, and a side of beets. The presentation and plating was a feast for the eyes and proved to be only the opening note for a proverbial trip to 'flavor town'! The ribs were cooked perfectly and seasoned to compliment the sourness of the cabbage. The dumplings were light, fluffy and the best I've had, hands down. You'd be hard pressed to find any better in the US. The shredded beets are obviously made and pickled in house. They are a cold side but temperature was perfect (meaning not too cold) and paired with the rest of the plate with just enough sweetness that really helped balanced out the plate. Rounding out the dinner I opted for a malty 'dark' beer which just helped bring everything together, which I enjoyed very much. I highly recommend trying Polka Dot. You won't be disappointed.

The food is authentically home made! Amazing and friendly service! Refreshingly good all around!

The food is authentically fresh and homemade. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. It is acquaint restaurant that reminds you of the good taste of home cooking. Will be back with more of the family and friends.

I've been wanting to try this place for a long time! I'm sad we waited so long. It was amazing. Our server Aga was a complete sweetheart. Excellent service, cleanest restaurant I've ever been in and the food was so flavorful. Even the iced tea was amazing.

Phone didn't eat first in this case! It was too good to wait!!

Welcome addition to Lake Zurich only a few minutes from the office which is good and bad! I had the polish plater because I wanted to try a little of everything! Portions were huge! Pierogi were fresh and remembered me of my mother's, back in the day. Potato pancakes were fantastic, prepared perfectly, not too thin, not too thick. Stuffed Cabbage was very good as well but the pierogi and potatoe pancakes were the winners! Our server was attentive and very polite, great customer service. Can't wait to go back to try the rest of the menu!!

Polka Dot is a MUST TRY and I've come back from my 4 year Yelp hiatus to tell you that you've got to dine here. My husband is Polish and I'll be honest I am not a huge fan of Polish food--in our 11 years together, I have never actively sought it out. We recently visited Poland this summer and I fell in love with a Polish restaurant there. We accidentally stumbled upon Polka Dot when the restaurant we were hoping to try was unexpectedly closed. This was the best coincidence ever. We dined here not knowing what to expect, and we were absolutely blown away. Everything exceeded our expectations The food reminded us of our visit to Poland. It was clear (and confirmed by our waitress) that everything was home cooked with love. We both enjoyed the soups of the day: żurek (sour rye soup) and sour cabbage soup--both were incredible and so filling. We shared the Polish plate and zapiekanka. The Polish plate included 3 pierogi (we opted for potato and cheese), gołąbki (stuffed cabbage rolls), płaczki (potato pancake), kielbasa, warm sauerkraut, and a small salad. The pierogi was pillowy soft and the gołąbki was not too dense and very flavorful. We also shared a zapiekanka with mushroom & kiełbasa and it was perfect! The interior of Polka Dot is tastefully decorated and beautiful! We loved the mix of seating arrangements. And the wait staff were so kind. We've recommended Polka Dot to all our friends & family and can't wait to go back!

The food was very good. We had a polish plate and a polka dog. The polish plate had 1 potato pancake. 1 polish sausage, 1 stuffed cabbage ( we actually had 2) and 3 pierogi of your choice.(we had potato and cheese fried). The polka dog was a grilled sausage on a baguette with very spicy horseradish mustard and tomato and cucumber salsa (tasted like chopped pickles and tomatoes). Alex was our waiter and was very kind and attentive. The lady who sat us was also very nice. The decor was fresh looking and was in blue which is a very calming color. They had music playing at a comfortable left and the seating was done nicely with both tables and booths. I would definitely come back and I would also pick up pierogis to take home.

Lake Zurich is an ever growing Mecca for new restaurants and global cuisines. This is its newest shining star, a cute warm modern restaurant with an equally as adorable name. Walking up to the front in the plaza it's very modest looking, but when you walk in, it's very welcoming. I've been looking for a good Polish restaurant in the area and so lucky that one has moved right into my town. I had the traditional Polish plate and everything was excellent, freshly made great plating. Very tasty and served quickly too. It's casual dining with a walk up counter, or you can be seated and served. Great for a family Friday night dinner or a yummy lunch.

It definitely has a lively atmosphere, and I could hear Polish being spoken at many of the tables, which made the experience feel authentic. There were also plenty of non-Polish guests enjoying themselves as well. The service was excellent from start to finish. The staff were friendly, attentive, and kept everything running smoothly despite how large and busy the restaurant was. The restaurant was also very clean and well maintained. The food was fresh and satisfying. Portions were enormous, and many dishes are easily large enough to share between two people. The flavors were mild and balanced, which I appreciated since nothing was overly salty or heavy. The sauerkraut was good, although I personally would have preferred it to be a bit more sour. Overall, the food was enjoyable, the atmosphere was unique, and it's a fun place to experience Polish cuisine while enjoying a lively social setting.

It was time to try. We expected a bit of a hole in the wall and that's not what we found - we found a very nicely decorated and maintained restaurant with a lot of dark wood overtones - we were seated immediately and given an extensive menu. I ordered a Polish beer, and we ordered a Polish plate - kind of a combination sampler plate if you will - and a ground pork cutlet dinner. Now before we could say anything? Some bread showed up with a lovely but lightly flavored hummus type spread- we enjoyed it because it also came with a nice big half sized pickle. When the Polish plate came? OMG we had sauerkraut - we had sausage - we had some pierogies, and when the pork cutlet came out? It literally covered the entire plate and was resting on a bed of freshly mashed potatoes. We shared the Polish plate and we shared the extremely large pork cutlet. Now to be fair? We loved the Polish plate immensely - while the cutlet was nicely breaded, and the mashed potatoes were great? I'm not certain I could say that about the pork cutlet. There was nothing wrong with it. I think the flavor was fine, but it was not something that I would order again. It just wasn't my taste that's all. So would we come again? Yes. Yes we would!

As someone who grew up eating Polish food, this is some of the most authentic cooking I've had in some time. The galumpki was easily the best I've ever had, and both the borsch and the crocket were absolutely out of this world. We also shared a Polish platter, which offered your usual items --Polish sausage, galumpki, sauerkraut, potatoes and pierogi. All very good! Beyond the food, the atmosphere is exactly what I like to see from a family-run business. It has a wonderful, homey supper club feel that makes you want to linger, complemented by a great view that adds to the overall experience. What truly sets the place apart is the personal touch from the owners. They frequently wander throughout the dining room to check in on everyone, often sitting down to chat and making you feel like a guest in their own home rather than just a customer at a table. We're very much looking forward to returning (again!) to explore more of the menu and finally save enough room to try one of their desserts. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a genuine taste of Poland.

The parking lot was plowed pretty well but it was full and hard to navigate. Steep spots make it a bit difficult for the handicap crowd so keep that in mind. The place has a great look both outside and in. And it was perfectly heated in there! No small feat in this cold. We had a reservation and everything went smoothly, despite a few of our group showing up late and two kids who are hard to please, which the staff handled amazingly. Our server was really great, top notch home style service from start to finish. She interacted and joked with the kids and even brought them some crayons and coloring sheets. Above and beyond. We were near the bar and I could hear regulars making small talk throughout the meal which was fun. A real friendly vibe here, loved that. We started with some potato and cheese pierogi as an appetizer while we waited for our late party members. Delicious and authentic! The shape and texture on these things... wow. You can tell these are legit right away. Bacon on top is a perfect touch. I had a cherry Pepsi to drink and they actually add cherry syrup to the Pepsi?! I haven't had a soda like that in years, no one bothers to do that anymore. It's so much better. I know I'm gushing about a soda but it really elevated my meal. I loved the pierogi so much I decided to get the all meat style as my entree. Also fantastic and more filling. It came with soup or salad, but pickle soup was an option I couldn't resist. That's something I'd never had the pleasure of trying and I'd get it every time! A great blend of dill herb flavor with a light pickle flavor, it's an amazing opener. Almost forgot about the bread basket! Again, you just don't see this anymore. It's a nice touch, and I enjoyed some rye bread with my soup. A gentleman with an accordion sang my grandma happy birthday and gave her a free imported chocolate bar. Really sweet. My uncle got a different song and I'll tell you this and only this, it was amazing! This man lifted the mood and we really needed that, we were all feeling really worn down. We had a plethora of dessert options. Both of the birthday duo went with the napoleon, I got to have a bite and it was perfectly creamy. I HAD to have the lemon cake. I'm a sucker for lemon pastries and this cake would be worth coming in for on its own. Sweet and tart with beautiful layers, can't say enough about this one! What a fun night we had! It's always chaotic getting my family together for something like this and we left in better moods than we arrived. That's a testament to the quality of food and service we received, and I'll be back in a smaller group soon to try some more appetizers and get my new favorite soup and cake again!

17th and Cermak Rd has been part of my extended neighborhood for over 70 years, and I've driven…read morepast Sawa's here for all that time. Never stopped in. My dumb ass. Then again, the place is in a magnificent sort of decay (on the outside). Remove the cars in the lot, the steady stream of patrons, and the electricity to the signs and you'd swear the joint had been closed for awhile. Zero curb appeal. Yeah, that's what I'm blaming it on. Step inside, and as they say, it's a different bowl of Czarnina. It's OLD old school for sure, and, at least for me, that's a rousing and quite affirmative sign that good eats may be in store. And they were. The nearby Berwyn/Cicero neighborhoods were heavily Czech, and we all grew up eating that hearty, stick-to-your-ribs, pork-laden cuisine. A similar thread runs through German and Polish menus. Swap out the recipes for side dishes, and you're still in the same universe. My ancestry has Polish and German (along with the Italian and Jewish) components, so a lot of this food is familiar, much of it cooked by my Grandmothers; so I went in with a basic knowledge and expectation of the cuisine. Sawa's bills itself as a "Smorgasbord", which was a term still in wide use 60 or so years ago when Sawa's was established; it's a Danish word for "buffet". Back in the day, a resto yclept as such was considered "exotic", even when the fare presented therein was anything but. That Sawa's kept that describer is further evidence of OLD OLD school. (See my words about "old school" above.) Still, Never stopped in. My dumb ass. Inside, it's a bustling, warm and inviting room, if it were German, one would describe it as "gemutlich"-meaning very "home-like". The staff is very personable and cheerful. Some of the tables and chairs have seen better days, but they're all clean. The "Smorgasbord" doesn't have a HUGE selection, but what's there is very good. There's a salad station, de rigueur; which I passed over in favor of the selection of Polish Zakuski: cold appetizing bits like bean salad, pasta salad, cucumbers, etc.. I took a little bit of everything, all great! There were a few soups, but I made a beeline for the Mushroom Soup. I could have had 3 bowls of that with a few of the zakuski, a beer and call it a day! I can't remember what the other soups were- I wasn't interested once I saw "mushroom". Main course offerings included 2 types of Polish sausage-smoked and fresh. You KNOW those were yum! Gołąbki (pronounced go-WUUM-kee) or: Stuffed Cabbage in tomatoe sauce were proper. Pierogis of several different types, all, again delicious. Blintzes, Pork ribs, GREAT kraut, and Haluski, a cabbage/noodle dish my Polish grandmother used to make, which I have not had in almost 50 years. Almost got misty-eyed for this one. There were two anomalies: Fried chicken, which was terrific, And the only sort-of miss on the carte: roast beef which reminded me of Italian Beef, but not quite as highly spiced. Not bad, but not exactly something I'd order (or expect) in a Polish resto. I was there at the end of the Lunch service and saw the stuff they were bringing out for Dinner, including a rockin' big hunk of Roast Pork and a beautiful Whole Ham. The desserts offered were Polish-style Kolackys, very good! And a selection of petit-four type things. There was a ring-shaped dark cookie that was interesting. Close to a gingerbread, but not so ginger-y. Know going into it, Polish baked desserts are apparently not extremely sweet. Decent with coffee, but if you're looking for a sugar punch at the end of your meal, see if they have some non-savory blintzes on the board. There IS soft-serve ice cream available for a more traditional finale. The onliest disappointment was the bread, perched on top of the trad salad cart. It seemed like an afterthought. Even shmeared with butter, it tasted a bit stale and tired. A shame, 'cos good Polish Rye is a thing of beauty and a joy forever. An altogether gentle and most satisfying feed. I wish I had ordered a beer, which would have complimented the cuisine admirably; but didn't 'cos its a long drive home to Stately Breakwind Manor from deepest Broadview. Got to stay in the lane, you know. A Solid 4 stars. I'll be back for Dinner shortly, where I expect that 5th star will be added. Even sweeter 'cos the price is so reasonable. Why did I wait so long to dine at this EXCELLENT Smorgasbord? My dumb ass...

They offer one type of pierogi for the day, which was cabbage that day. They also had Potato pancakes that were thin and flavorful. Also crispy on the outside and soft inside. There were also Potato dumpling, boiled potatoes with gravy, sauerkraut, corn, and beef slices. First time having stuffed cabbage with ground meat with rice and breaded pork with ground pork. The meat wasn't as dense as I thought it would be, but still very filling. They also had fried chicken. The chicken were moist and just fell off the bones. There were apple blintzes, which was like thin crepe wrapped around slices of apples with powdered sugar. Had a light sweetness to it. Recommend to go add some soft serve ice cream. A variety of small bites of pastries. Kolaczki were amazing and very soft and fresh. They have a small sheet that list out all the items with the prices that they offer at the buffet. They have styrofoam containers to take the food home. Very reasonable prices like the cabbage rolls and breaded pork are $3 each and Kolaczki $0.50 each. Monica our waitress was very quick to take away any empty plates on your table. Refill drinks. Really nice and friendly. Also gave us a pitcher of water so we can refill our glasses. Everything tasted like homemade but even better. Made fresh snd Seasoned well. Weekday buffet dinner for $19 is a great deal. Definitely will come back on another weekday to try another one of their special dish. Recommend to bring cash. They do take credit cards. Oh and the GPS if going East on Cermak rd you can turn into 18th street or turn straight into the restaurant parking lot. Our GPS told us to go down 19th street and turn into an alley to get to the restaurant parking lot.
