I had an excellent meal here on my way to an event! I'll keep this one quick because it was weeks ago. Nice little spot, cutesy decorations. I had the polish plate as well as the special meatballs. The plate was almost perfect. The texture of the sausage wasn't my favorite, it got overly hard near the score marks. The pierogi were the stars of the plate, really delicious, even the mushroom flavor I normally avoid. The meatballs had a really nice dill sauce, I'd get those again. With a little more time to kill, I got the crepes for dessert as well. One of the best I've had! Not your usual soft, overly filled, vessel for whatevers inside. This was the second time coming here after 2 years the first time the food portion and quality was way better. There was nothing to eat the chicken cutlet was half the size it was 2 years ago only 1 small scoop mash potato and a small size of coleslaw for $30 the pierogi are 10 for $16 I got 10 cabbage and mushrooms and 10 sweet cheese those were terrible tasting nothing like it was previously. there are better polish resturants to eat at in Schaumburg or chicago than this. read more

Wow, this little place was a real good find. We loved the selections and decided on the stuffed cabbage, pork cutlet, cold slaw and the yummy banana, Nutella crepes. Our waitress Yullia was fun and friendly and attentive. The walls were all decorated with dots and the shelves had Polish Pottery on display. Great place and we'll be back again. Don't blink as you'll miss this little gem in a strip center. Nice atmosphere and welcoming staff, but the true highlight was the food. My great grandmother was Polish and I've had some pretty good meals growing up. However Polka Dot delivered on a meal that exceeded my expectations and honestly the best bite I've had from a restaurant in at least a couple years. I ordered the daily special of pork ribs over braised cabbage, a side of dumplings, and a side of beets. The presentation and plating was a feast for the eyes and proved to be only the opening note for a proverbial trip to 'flavor town'! The ribs were cooked perfectly and seasoned to compliment the sourness of the cabbage. The dumplings were light, fluffy and the best I've had, hands down. You'd be hard pressed to find any better in the US. The shredded beets are obviously made and pickled in house. They are a cold side but temperature was perfect (meaning not too cold) and paired with the rest of the plate with just enough sweetness that really helped balanced out the plate. Rounding out the dinner I opted for a malty 'dark' beer which just helped bring everything together, which I enjoyed very much. I highly recommend trying Polka Dot. My family and I stopped for lunch on our way up to the Kenosha, WI county fair. The waitress and staff were wonderful....kind, friendly and accommodating. Nothing bad to say in this regard. Polka Dot is a MUST TRY and I've come back from my 4 year Yelp hiatus to tell you that you've got to dine here. My husband is Polish and I'll be honest I am not a huge fan of Polish food--in our 11 years together, I have never actively sought it out. We recently visited Poland this summer and I fell in love with a Polish restaurant there. We accidentally stumbled upon Polka Dot when the restaurant we were hoping to try was unexpectedly closed. This was the best coincidence ever. We dined here not knowing what to expect, and we were absolutely blown away. Everything exceeded our expectations The food reminded us of our visit to Poland. It was clear (and confirmed by our waitress) that everything was home cooked with love. We both enjoyed the soups of the day: żurek (sour rye soup) and sour cabbage soup--both were incredible and so filling. We shared the Polish plate and zapiekanka. The Polish plate included 3 pierogi (we opted for potato and cheese), gołąbki (stuffed cabbage rolls), płaczki (potato pancake), kielbasa, warm sauerkraut, and a small salad. The pierogi was pillowy soft and the gołąbki was not too dense and very flavorful. We also shared a zapiekanka with mushroom & kiełbasa and it was perfect! The interior of Polka Dot is tastefully decorated and beautiful! We loved the mix of seating arrangements. And the wait staff were so kind. The food was very good. We had a polish plate and a polka dog. The polish plate had 1 potato pancake. 1 polish sausage, 1 stuffed cabbage ( we actually had 2) and 3 pierogi of your choice.(we had potato and cheese fried). The polka dog was a grilled sausage on a baguette with very spicy horseradish mustard and tomato and cucumber salsa (tasted like chopped pickles and tomatoes). Alex was our waiter and was very kind and attentive. The lady who sat us was also very nice. The decor was fresh looking and was in blue which is a very calming color. Lake Zurich is an ever growing Mecca for new restaurants and global cuisines. This is its newest shining star, a cute warm modern restaurant with an equally as adorable name. Walking up to the front in the plaza it's very modest looking, but when you walk in, it's very welcoming. I've been looking for a good Polish restaurant in the area and so lucky that one has moved right into my town. I had the traditional Polish plate and everything was excellent, freshly made great plating. Very tasty and served quickly too. Lake Zürich is not close to me, but I heard some good things about this next restaurant. This small eatery is located in a strip mall with other eateries such as Boba in Mexican food restaurant and a few others. When you enter there are three tables with chairs set up the rest are booths. Total seating I estimate to be around 10 tables. The interior is very warm and welcoming. Our server was an extremely friendly young girl who handed us menus to look over. The food was typical Polish cuisine, but I always try to look for a Polish restaurant that offers the " Polish plate" that gives a taste of their popular items all in one dish. My wife and myself both ordered the Polish plate and my wife also tried mushroom soup, which was the soup of the day. I thought it was nice. They brought out with some bread. Some of their Polish spread, which is somewhat like bacon grease you spread on your bread. It's very tasty not healthy but very tasty nonetheless. They also had pickles on the plate. My wife's soup came out first and I tried some of the broth. It was very delicious. Very rich lots of mushroom flavor. I thought it was a nice ad, but strange there were large pasta noodles like spaghetti in the soup. I thought a nice texture and made soup actually hearty enough for a meal. Shortly after our main courses came out to the Polish plates. On my plate consisted of a Polish sausage, three pierogies one cabbage roll, some sauerkraut and cabbage and a potato pancake. I also asked for a small side of mashed potatoes. I first tried the pierogies. I opted to get all meat pierogies, which are my favorite. The pierogies were flavorful and fresh. Very delicious. I do not know if they are homemade or they did taste just like the frozen ones I get from the grocery store, but they were very tasty. I even tried the potato pancake. It was crispy and tasty. It was not overly greasy like many that I tried in the past. The post sausage had a nice Snap to it. It was nicely grilled really good juicy flavor. I was mixed on the cabbage roll the meat inside it was dry, but had good flavor, and the cabbage on the outside was still somewhat tough. Nothing like the cabbage roll that I had at U gadzy in Wood Dale, Illinois. The entire place was filling I also want to mention that when you order a pop, it comes in cans, so there are no refills. If you order another drink you pay for another can of pop. I also thought one thing was somewhat nickel and dimeing they charge one dollar for a glass of water. Overall, I thought the food was very tasty, but our check was close to $60 which I thought was somewhat over price. The service was nice and the location was quaint, but there are better locations that serve bigger portions with better flavor for cheaper prices. Servers were very friendly, food was good. My wife went to use the bathroom which is in the back room behind the kitchen came back and said don't order the roast beef. On the way to the bathroom is a sink where 3 beef slabs. The problem was they were out in the open not covered next to the bathroom were the door was open. We then watch the waitress grab frozen chicken fingers with her bare hand no plastic gloves from the freezer which is in the main dining area. read more

This was a huge disappointment as we all were looking forward to trying out a Polish restaurant in the area. Cute place, not crowded so was confused when we felt rushed by wait staff. There were 4 in our party. For starters a plate with 2 pieces of bread cut into 4 pieces was served with I kid you not 1 pickle sliced into 4 pieces. To accompany the bread and pickle was a condiment sized container comparable in size to the ones used in fast food restaurants for ketchup with some mysterious unattractive concoction. I took a taste of it and immediately had to ask what it was. It was LARD. We have been to many Polish restaurants and not one has ever served us LARD. I ordered the combo plate. You could request your pierogis to be either steamed or fried. I was not asked how I wanted mine prepared. Before she rushed away from the table I had to stop her to let her know that I wanted them steamed. I had the meat and they were very tasty. As was the sauerkraut. From that point it was downhill for all of us. My husband is Polish and he knows how potato pancakes should be prepared. We received pancakes that looked and tasted like mash potatoes formed into a patty and fried. No seasoning and burnt. Next were the sausages that were served with the combo plate. They were so over cooked that they were difficult to cut let alone chew. Did we try this restaurant on an off day based off of previous reviews? We ordered the special that night, Placki ziemniaczane po węgiersku or Goulash with Potato Pancakes. My wife is of Polish descent and my grandparents came from Hungary so this seemed ideal. The goulash was sumptuous, like a warm hug, the meat tender and moist. The potato pancakes were crunchy on the outside and soft and airy on the inside. Together, they were amazing. The place is small. The service was not impressive. But the food was delicious. We would like to go back and try the other items from the menu, but the special sounded (and was) so good, we both ordered it (and we almost never order the same dish, especially at a new place) and were both thrilled that we did. read more

I found this restaurant by driving by. I loved the name, Polka Dot, so I stopped in for lunch. The restaurant is clean and the decor is modern and cute with polka dots on the wall. The service was prompt and friendly. I ordered the Polish plate, which came with a potato pancake, Polish sausage, stuffed cabbage, 3 pierogi, and sauerkraut . You have the option of having your pierogi boiled or fried. I had mine boiled with the sauerkraut and mushroom filling. The food was delicious and the portions are quite abundant, albeit overpriced. What surprised me the most was that they charged me a dollar for a glass of ice water! Not bottled water, but water I presume came straight from the tap with a few ice cubes added to it. At the prices that they charge for their food, I'd expect that ice water would be offered for no charge as a customer courtesy. Even worse, they didn't inform me that there was a charge for ice water when I ordered it. I found out when they gave me the check. That was a turn-off for me, personally. I'm glad I found this out when I was dining alone. If I was with more people and we all got charged $1 each for ice water, I would have been quite upset. Unless you don't mind burning money on plain old ice water, learn from my mistake - don't order the ice water. Not sure if I would dine-in again at Polka Dot, but I may order take-out at a later date. read more

YIKES!!!!! I know inflation is rough but a 50% increase in price in a month. Polish Plate is now $31 up from $22 If you order everything on that plate ala carte it's cheaper than that. Dinners went from $22 to $34, a grilled polish on a bun w/sauerkraut is $17 $11 for chicken noodle soup???? A CAN of soda went from $3 to $4....are you kidding me??? A glass of tap water WAS $1, which is completely INSANE, they may have even upped that. Complete and total business mismanagement. I'm going to venture a guess and say they're not getting the volume of business they thought they would, so the knee jerk reaction is to raise prices. The food is NOT excellent but it is "good" it's just not $31-$34 worth of good. But it's your money to spend, I just can't drop $21-35 for lunch. Service was good, food was good, but i have no relations to the biggest ethnic population outside of its homeland, so I wouldn't be the best to rate its "ethnicity", but I enjoyed my meal.
