Came here on a Sunday night for dinner with fam. As soon as we walked in there was a nasty stench to the restaurant. Didn't smell appetizing at all! I saw ads for this place on FB and it looked appetizing. Ordered the nuggets and 2 piece meal (leg & thigh) along with some yucca fries, french fries, and one chicken empanada. The staff was very friendly in spite of the restaurant being extremely warm inside. The only reason I'm being generous by giving them 3 stars and not 2 stars is because of the chicken empanada. It tasted fresh, flavorful and not greasy (similar to the ones offered by Red Ribbon, but not as sweet). Unfortunately it was downhill from there. The chicken was generally flavorless with an odd after taste (think of it as a really bad Popeye's). The skin wasn't crispy either, it looked crispy but it wasn't. The nuggets were quite average (McD's makes them better). The yucca fries had mostly lost their flavor, I suspect they frozen ions ago. The empanada was a good discovery, but overall it was a waste of my money. read more

When I got there, there was only one person taking the orders and making the orders. And there was a line. When she got to me, she apologized which I thought was very nice of her to do. I just walked in. Ordering anything in English is nearly impossible, so I ordered a burrito cause there was no choice. I asked for a bathroom token and when I walked in there was some crazy woman on the toilet on FaceTime yelling at me cause she didn't lock the door. I don't even have enough words for this place. Went today because I've really been wanting to try this place, me and my boyfriend showed up and I got so excited looking at the menu and from the smell of the place. The GENERAL MANAGER was serving all the customers ahead of us happy as could be. Until we got to the register. I shouldn't have to even say this but I do, because it was the largest reason she was so rude. My boyfriend is Mexican and does not speak spanish, and I am white. The way she treated us while we were just ordering was disgusting honestly. She was upset he wasn't speaking Spanish, she kept turning her back on him while he spoke to her. He asked her for a cup for water 5+ times and she just looked at him and rolled her eyes and walked away. Eventually another employee handed him water cups. The food was handed out to every table by an employee. Our food however just sat on the counter and was never delivered. Our "chicken" bowls had NO chicken whatsoever, although the bowl was delicious. And the plantains were amazing. It was such a shame. People are truly disgusting. read more

Never going back to this restaurant again! Their chicken is not as good as it used to be and is too expensive! They are so shady, today we went for their Wednesday special, the only day it's worth it to go. The cashier said if we want to buy the special then we need to pay cash. The debit or credit card function only worked if you were buying something more expensive. What is so funny is that even when the card machine is working, you can only buy one special at a time. So yes they do take credit cards, but if you want the special you need to pay cash. She said it would be 10-15 minutes to fix the machine, as I was leaving. Wow, how does this place have 3 1/2 stars? I was craving the crazy chicken, but Pollo Campero was closer and I decided to give it a shot. BIG MISTAKE! First of all it was hands down the worst chicken I have ever had in my life. It was dry, and I mean really dry. Good thing there are free refills on the soda. Maybe the fried chicken is better than the grilled chicken, but it was really horrible chicken. They gave me the choice of a dinner roll or a tortilla. I chose the roll which was old and stale. The meal came with two sides. I took fries and mashed potatoes. Yes, that is two potato sides, but the other options were only beans (3 kinds) and rice. No corn, no mac and cheese, no other options. The fries and potatoes were okay, but nothing special. The counter girl was friendly and all, so I guess the service was decent, but when the chicken at a chicken place is this bad they are lucky to get one star. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

To begin with , since I arrived, the manager was cleaning the door and the handles, and she welcomed me, the place was clean, Gabriela was very kind to me at the check-in, she was very friendly and she explained the menu easily In order to selected a family meal, the service was fast the manager if I am not mistaken her name was Luz, she gave my order and said goodbye kindly, I would totally recommend visiting this place in these moments of pandemic it was all very clean and the staff had their uniform and suitable gloves to carry out their tasks. read more

In response to the other reviews, yes, the chicken is very good. It's as if KFC and El Pollo had a child. The coating is less than KFC's, but the flavor is definitely there. I had the two pieces mixed with the Campero beans. The beans were nearly perfect. Add a little house salsa and they were great. The only con I have is the breast I had was a little dry, but the wing was spot on. I will definitely be going back. read more

Wow, Looks like I dodged some serious bullets when I came here for lunch (which is at 11:00 AM). Ordered the fried chicken burrito, about $5. Service was great, the cashier was super friendly and talkative. Order was out in less than 2 minutes, came with a small bag of tortilla chips. Seriously, a really good burrito, the rice, beans, sour cream, and salsa really go well with the fried chicken. Maybe the early time and my particular order were the two keys to a good meal here. Despite the fact that Pollo Campero is owned by members of the Guatemalan oligarchy, I couldn't help but stop by when I saw this one in, of all places, Burbank (the last one I saw was in Guatemala City). Not to damn with faint praise, but it was far, far better than KFC. The chicken is much less greasy and doesn't smell like pure lard, either. I like that they have horchata and jamaica, in addition to yuca and plaintains. My only complaint was that the Muzak was a bit too loud. Could it be?! It is. I was in Guatemala in January, and never got the chance to try Pollo Campero, thinking at the time that it was just a Guatemalan KFC. But now that I'm back in LA, I noticed the outfit has several location here, and by golly, it's wonderful! The chicken is super tasty. And they have plantains! Yum! And the salsa bar! I heard about this place from my coworkers. They were telling me stories about how before Pollo Campero came to the U.S. people who would visit relatives back in Guatemala would smuggle Pollo Campero back in their suitcases. I finally tried it today and like it! It really is all about the crispy seasoned skin. For those of you who don't eat skin, stay away from this place. They only had two types of house salsa and both were HOT!!!! But then again, I can't handle too much heat in my food. The gentleman behind the counter was super friendly and provided awesome customer service. He offered me samples of the agua fresca and a 15% good neighbor discount when I told him it was my first time trying Pollo Campero. I'm surprised anyone would have anything negative to say about their service. Lastly, the guy told me the beans are really good and that the Yucca fries were a little bit bitter so I got the sweet plantains instead...but now I'm wishing I tried the yucca fries. I remember the first time I went to El Pollo Loco. Raised on KFC, it was a totally different experience...exotic, even. Chicken with tortillas! A salsa bar! Well, El Pollo Loco is pretty much dead to me after Pollo Campero. They did it to themselves - I've had bad experiences the last few times I went to El Pollo Loco. Totally disinterested service, messy restaurants and the food wasn't really making it for me, either. Too...white. The salsa at the bar - once, so exotic - bland. Paste like tortillas. Chicken barely flavored. California has gotten more latino in the 20 years I've been here. El Pollo Loco has stayed the same. Pollo Campero has horchata! Plantains! Real charra style salsa. 3 stars for the chicken, 3.5 stars for the yucca fries, fried plantains, and hot salsas. Went here to use my Groupon. They wouldn't let me order the "specials" like the 9 pieces legs and thighs for $9.99. Instead, I needed to order the full price family meals. Kind of expensive for 8 pieces of chicken with 2 sides and tortillas for almost $19. Also, I wanted to try their yucca fries and sweet plantain sides instead of the typical sides you get, so those cost additional too. The chicken was nice and crispy with a good saltiness to it. I like that the batter is really thin. Loved the yucca fries. They're pretty salty on their own but they also taste really good with the mayo sauce. Also, I don't know what kind of batter they use on the yucca fries but the fries were crispy even after we ate them when we got home 30 minutes later. The sweet plantains have a lot of grilled flavor, maybe a little too much, but they were also good. I also had the grilled chicken wrap and although I couldn't tell the chicken was grilled at all, it had a generous piece of chicken and it tasted good with some extra salsas. Their salsas are a little spicier than El Pollo Locos so that's great. Probably wouldn't come back to the Burbank location as it's kind of out of the way from me, but the Olympic one might be closer. read more
