Originally opened in 1941 the Polo Lounge is one of the most famous restaurants in Los Angeles. Countless important people and celebrities have eaten here over the years and you can really tell that the walls have seen a lot of history. As many other reviewers will mention this place is hard to beat in terms of atmosphere. It's located inside the classy Beverly Hills Hotel in beautiful Beverly Hills. It's formal but more business casual, and the sort of place that would be really fun to bring a date. It is very lively and not the sort of place for kids as they have a full service bar and lots of people dressing up, chatting, and is almost high energy. It's very large on the inside and designed well in a classic California style. There are many different seating sections such as the bar area, the main dining room (which is my favorite), and outdoor seating. There is no self parking available so it will be valet parking for $22. The initial charge is $25 but if you get your ticket validated it drops it to $22. Our waitress was very polite and everything that we ordered came out pretty fast. The only downside to this restaurant is the exorbitant pricing. Everything here is priced more than you will pay even in coastal Santa Monica. That being said it's very hard to budget a meal here and is best used for a place to celebrate or just grab a few drinks. There are many famous dishes here and it's always hard to choose what to order. For this visit, we started with the Tortilla Soup and the McCarthy Salad. The Tortilla Soup was very good, almost had a roasted flavor to it, but I enjoyed it very much. The McCarthy Salad is also very famous and is definitely one of the best chop salads that I've ever had. I think it's probably the third most famous salad from Los Angeles after the Cobb and the La Scala Chopped. For my entrée, I chose the Branzino Fillet Unilateral accompanied with fregola sarda, roasted heirloom cherry tomatoes, zante currants, pine nuts, lemon caper sauce. I honestly really enjoyed it and thought it was a good sized portion. It was a large fillet, had great flavors, and was cooked perfectly. Finally for dessert I ordered their famous Soufflé and I decided to do a chocolate and vanilla combination, which I would highly recommend. It's honestly one of the best Soufflés that I've ever had. Everything about this place is amazing except the pricing. I would recommend to anyone searching for a special occasion lunch or dinner spot and obviously to anyone who is staying at the Beverly Hills Hotel. I'd been waiting for the perfect excuse to visit the iconic Polo Lounge, and it finally came when I won a gift certificate for lunch at a silent auction fundraiser (it was the most sought-after item!). From start to finish, the experience was enchanting. Pulling up to the valet at the legendary Beverly Hills Hotel set the tone, followed by a stroll through the elegant lobby before being escorted to our table in the Polo Lounge. The ambiance was pure old Hollywood charm. I began my meal with the Pretty in Pink cocktail, which was almost too beautiful to drink. We started with a salad (chopped tableside, though I can't recall which one), and then moved on to the pan-roasted Scottish salmon and Wagyu burger. I was just curious if there was an empty table for two which they told me there was not it was totally sold out. Came here during a visit to LA. The Beverly Hills Hotel is so iconic, so my girlfriends and I had to step in for a cocktail at the Polo Lounge! The decor is an elegant green, and we were seated indoors as the outside patio was reserved for dinner only. We each tried a different cocktail from the menu - I ordered the mezcal based drink with charcoal, and it was adorned with whimsical flowers. Forgive me Lord, but afaik, they overcharged us by ~$15. It's about $150 for lunch plus $27 + tip for parking (if and only if you remember to ask for a parking validation). No, odds are, you won't see anybody famous. The food is very good. The place feels dated. The piano music is supposed to be soft and pleasant, however, imho, it was far too loud, almost jarring, even though we were seated a good distance away. I've been there hardly often, but from time to time over the years. I feel that it's just not the pinnacle of places to go anymore. And, to the best of my knowledge, we were overcharged. (we were in a hurry, I didn't ask for a bill or receipt) but unless a non-alcoholic plain soft drink is $32 (maybe it is) they overcharged us. We sat on the patio, which felt cool enough even though it was a hot August day. We had a round of cocktails - the High Living and Millionaire. High Living, a bourbon and absinthe concoction, was rich and delicious, with a "Polo"-etched square cube. They brought a basket of breads - pretzel rolls, two kinds of focaccia (parmesan and multi-grain), and parmesan crisps. We ordered the filet mignon, cooked perfectly and served with potatoes and roasted asparagus, and the mushroom-spinach lasagna with shaved truffles. The lasagna was divine, and they didn't skimp on the truffles. It was my birthday, so they surprised me with a complimentary piece of cake with a candle. It was lovely and even though we were stuffed, it was so good that we ate most of it. We discretely took several pictures of our items and ourselves, and we didn't see any rules against that. Valet parking was $20. The valets were swift and handled my car satisfactorily. The Beverly Hills Hotel aesthetic isn't as grand or dramatic as Chateau Marmont or the Roosevelt, but it has vintage charm and meticulous upkeep. No flip flops, sandals, only proper appropriate casual attire. No hats for the gentleman, ripped jeans, no shorts, sleeveless shirts etc. There are a few, high in demand booths here & they are usually booked in advance or held for Very Very VIP's but sometimes you get lucky. We came to the Polo Lounge for a special night with friends, prepared to spend serious money, and were met with the coldest, most unwelcoming energy from the moment we arrived. My boyfriend, notably, the only Black man in the room, was singled out immediately over his jeans, which had two small rips. The policy wasn't applied equally, as we saw guests inside wearing flip-flops, midriff tops, and open-toe shoes -- all against their posted dress code -- yet no one said a word to them. He left to buy new pants in the hectic Century City mall, came back in compliance an HOUR later and finally sat down -- only for the owner himself to walk over within seconds and tell him to remove his HAT!. This had never been mentioned when we first arrived; the only "problem" discussed was the jeans. He had a fresh gash on the back of his head, sensitive skin from being bald, and it was 90° in Los Angeles, so he wanted to wear a hat but then just needed a moment to eat a fry and settle in before taking it off. Instead, less than 90 seconds later, the owner came back even more aggressively, flanked by three security guards, making it clear Max would be removed if he didn't comply immediately. The entire thing felt unnecessarily hostile, selective, and humiliating. The staff was robotic, cold, and not once did anyone try to make us feel welcome. And after all of that, the food was a complete letdown. Drinks are over $20 and mostly ice. I ordered the spinach tagliatelle -- zero flavor. My boyfriend's lobster risotto? Bland. My friend's crab cake? Lifeless. Her husband's salmon? Equally disappointing. None of us are quick to criticize food, but there wasn't a pinch of seasoning in any of it. It was so bad I didn't even want to take my leftovers home. I've been to the GRAMMYs every single year, I have attended the white house christmas parties, attended the Oscars, and have been to the membership only boujie places at both Soho House and San Vicente Bungalows -- all places with dress codes -- and I have never experienced anything like this. To be honest it's not even the dress code specifically that upsets me it's how they act so aggressive and nasty about it like you're walking into the venue in a garbage bag or barefoot. it's honestly insane. We went during Xmas and the decor was spectacular. The menu had lots of delicious options and we loved the cute designs on our cappuccinos. Because of Xmas season, my only complaint would be that they had the 12 days of soufflé on every other day in December except the 24th and 25th which are the main holiday dates where they should've had the full Xmas menu available. First of all second time eating there was just as great as the first time the food was over the top amazing I had the seafood salad for lunch which contained fresh lobster, fresh crab, and fresh shrimp. They gave a lot for the value $68 for the salad I have them add no charge and it came with everything. Salad dressing was great. In fact there was enough for me to bring home for dinner cause it was just too much and actually I wanted to save room for chocolate soufflé. Chocolate soufflé was amazing. However, I do have to say I like the raspberry soufflé a lot better. it's not as rich. Other than that. It is great I enjoy it iced tea was good service was over the top bread came with pretzel bread and a focaccia bread. It was so good and fresh. Our server Michelle welcomed us with such warmth and guided us through the menu from start to finish .
