There is not much to say about Pommes Frites except for it is so simple yet so ingenious. Nothing beats fresh cut potatoes that are deep fried and served to you piping hot. Even tepid fries is asking for too much nowadays at many places. Countless dipping sauces to choose from too! It's a must go to for fries lovers. The fries are more like french cut fries (though I'm more of a shoe string kinda gal). These are actual fries too.. as in like 4 inches and none of this 1 inch crumbs a lot of places try to pull off There is a place in near where I live that is also a fry shoppe (nowhere nearly as good as Pomme Frites) that has options for different cuts of fries (but not all types are freshly cut). It would be cool to see an option for this that is all fresh cut, though it may not be feasible. read more

For someone that craves carbs after walking around NYC, this place does not disappoint. If you like fries, or just want a nice snack to stroll around the streets with, then you're gonna like this place. This place is unfortunately a bit small but there are tables to sit down in front plus a touch screen menu to order if you don't feel like interacting with the staff. The Menu is vast with getting Frites starting from Regular to Double if you really want to share fries with. There's also the option to get sauces which is a must if you crave something to mix those fries in. I think I waited about 10 or so minutes after placing my order and my Belgium Frites were ready. I ordered the Truffle Frites. They are drizzled with Truffle Oil and garnished with freshly grated Italian Parmesan Cheese & Savory Herbs. I also got The Roasted Garlic Aioli which consisted of crispy roasted garlic, simmering onion & spices with a touch of anchovy. A very dangerous combo but I promise you; it's delicious. My first reaction was seeing that the person who put my fries in a paper cone. He filled the entire cone and then filled partly a second paper cone and layered it on top so it did not spill. Amazing! I was in shock of how much fries you get for just the regular size. The Truffle Frites were pretty much what you'd expect. Hot to the touch and the bite, it's crispy on the exterior a slight soft chew when you take a bite. It's really hard to complain when you get fries made to order and it's exactly how you want it to be. Did I even mention that they are also open till late too? Pommes Frites was the best impulsive decision on wintery night. These are seriously the best fries you'll ever have: perfectly crunchy on the outside and unbelievably fluffy on the inside. I would definitely recommend getting the combo of three of their specialty sauces on the side; they add that extra umami goodness to your meal. There's plenty of space for seating. I follow a specialized diet - allium-free vegetarian - so I'm always on the lookout for food places when I travel. Well, my friend was in town and we found ourselves in NYC and we both share a love of potatoes... so here we were! We came in the late afternoon for a snack of sorts so we were the only ones there (though there were more by the time we left). It's a place near NYU and by the SW corner of Washington Square Park with lots of character packed into a little space. Lots of dark wood and dim lighting. Reminded me of a pub in the medieval times, funny enough. A few tables that stretched from the door and back; we found a cool nook halfway down and they do have a restroom. There were two people working in the back. First thing's first: this place is not TRULY traditional. Belgian fries are typically twice fried in animal fat. Seeing as I'm vegetarian, the first thing I did was figure out what fat Pomme Frites used for their fries. It's vegetable oil and it's gluten free, so celiacs rejoice! And those with a wheat allergy and are vegan/vegetarian. They also have an allergen guide on their website and ingredient lists in person so if you have multiple food allergies/restrictions, be prepared to read. In addition to fries and special menu items like poutine (they also offer impossible "meat" for those who area plant based), they have drinks (including alcohol and slushies) and an extensive sauce menu and offered us samples. My friend enjoyed them since I was sure I couldn't have them. I was right. Out of all their sauces, I think only 3 were safe for me, so if you also avoid alliums... keep that in mind. We shared a double frites and got a frites sauce and jalapeño cheddar (which the ingredients list said I could have but it tasted slightly off so I focused on the frites sauce). I could also have the cheddar sauce but my friend likes spice so we decided on jalapeño. Perfectly crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The frites sauce reminded me of what I had in Belgium. Because these are thick cut fries, the insides are HOT and they stay that way for longer than your typical fries. It was great after power walking through the city for a few hours. Absolute perfection. A great place to snack, hang out, and/or eat a beautifully unbalanced meal. I'm definitely dragging my family there for fries on my next visit. I have a kid with multiple food allergies and he'll likely be sauce less but that's fine. He mostly wants the fries. read more

I got the Truffle Pommes frites with a complimentary mayo/ketchup/onion and also got the mango chutney, garlic aioli and rosemary garlic. The fries were hot and fresh, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The perfect fry. The mango chutney sauce was the standout of the sauces I got. Of these, I loved the curry ketchup. The flavor was more ketchup than curry but the mix of flavors made it special and I kept going back for that one. I don't know what the small white things they added were, grains of curd? but they ruined the constancy. The true killer was the gravy that ruined the taste. Walked in on a Friday late afternoon. There was only one other party inside. Got regular truffle fries for myself. It was a substantial amount that could be equivalent to a meal. The fries were fluffy on the inside and were quite thick. They had a nice crispy to them. They could've been more salted. Truffle taste was pretty minimal, but they give you a lot of cheese and herbs on top. They have normal ketchup on the side for free if you don't want to spend money on their special dips. You're able to see the salt on the fries as well so it was pretty well seasoned; not too salty. The frite sauce, however, i didnt like as much. While it was fine, i felt that this sauce was taking away from the saltiness of the fries. This made the fries taste a bit bland. Maybe I'm just not a poutine fan but I didn't love what I ordered even though it did grow on me. Next time I'll try the plain fries and sauces.
