Pomme Frites 128 MacDougal St. New York, NY 10012 French Fries with Garlic Aioli Dipping Sauce Belgian french fries and specialty dipping sauces are the primary menu items. The serving style is unique because the fries are served in paper cones and every table has holes to secure them. The french fries were crunchy on the outside while pillowy and fluffy on the inside. If you truly want to enhance the experience, I highly recommend purchasing one of the specialty sauces. Although there was an up charge, it was well worth it. #WestVillage #WestVillageNYC #pommefrites #frenchfries #garlicaioli #garlicaiolidippingsauce

Pommes Frites was the best impulsive decision on wintery night. These are seriously the best fries you'll ever have: perfectly crunchy on the outside and unbelievably fluffy on the inside. I would definitely recommend getting the combo of three of their specialty sauces on the side; they add that extra umami goodness to your meal. There's plenty of space for seating. Service was a tad bit slow, but mostly because the people in front of us took 5+ minutes to try a bunch of sauces. :P I'm definitely coming here every time I visit New York from now on! :D

I follow a specialized diet - allium-free vegetarian - so I'm always on the lookout for food places when I travel. Well, my friend was in town and we found ourselves in NYC and we both share a love of potatoes... so here we were! We came in the late afternoon for a snack of sorts so we were the only ones there (though there were more by the time we left). It's a place near NYU and by the SW corner of Washington Square Park with lots of character packed into a little space. Lots of dark wood and dim lighting. Reminded me of a pub in the medieval times, funny enough. A few tables that stretched from the door and back; we found a cool nook halfway down and they do have a restroom. There were two people working in the back. First thing's first: this place is not TRULY traditional. Belgian fries are typically twice fried in animal fat. Seeing as I'm vegetarian, the first thing I did was figure out what fat Pomme Frites used for their fries. It's vegetable oil and it's gluten free, so celiacs rejoice! And those with a wheat allergy and are vegan/vegetarian. They also have an allergen guide on their website and ingredient lists in person so if you have multiple food allergies/restrictions, be prepared to read. In addition to fries and special menu items like poutine (they also offer impossible "meat" for those who area plant based), they have drinks (including alcohol and slushies) and an extensive sauce menu and offered us samples. My friend enjoyed them since I was sure I couldn't have them. I was right. Out of all their sauces, I think only 3 were safe for me, so if you also avoid alliums... keep that in mind. We shared a double frites and got a frites sauce and jalapeño cheddar (which the ingredients list said I could have but it tasted slightly off so I focused on the frites sauce). I could also have the cheddar sauce but my friend likes spice so we decided on jalapeño. Perfectly crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The frites sauce reminded me of what I had in Belgium. Because these are thick cut fries, the insides are HOT and they stay that way for longer than your typical fries. It was great after power walking through the city for a few hours. Absolute perfection. A great place to snack, hang out, and/or eat a beautifully unbalanced meal. I'm definitely dragging my family there for fries on my next visit. I have a kid with multiple food allergies and he'll likely be sauce less but that's fine. He mostly wants the fries.

I consider myself a fry connoisseur, so when I saw a place thats main product were fries, you know I had to run. After a long travel day, pommes frites was my first stop coming to NY. I got the Truffle Pommes frites with a complimentary mayo/ketchup/onion and also got the mango chutney, garlic aioli and rosemary garlic. The fries were hot and fresh, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The perfect fry. The mango chutney sauce was the standout of the sauces I got. The inside feels like you're being transported to a different country, and the tables have holes for the cones to go into while you eat. The service was quick on a late Saturday night. Such a great bite, I could eat this everyday if I could

Hands down the best fries in NYC! Truly authentic Belgian with a crunchy exterior and soft pillowy interior. Lots of unique specialty sauces to try & their eclectic flavors to discover - and the traditional free Especial combo of mayo, ketchup and onions ports you right back to Brussels. Rustic interior, some beer on tap, quick service, and one can also order online.

Always fun coming here and trying new flavors with friends. The place is small and can get really packed, but they're open late nights and it's a good bite to grab.

The food was amazing as always. I've been a customer since their original location and 20 years later they're just as good if not better with their ever growing list of sauces. Love the Belgium inspired indoor. Great place to hang out and have reasonably priced fries for the quality.

I first came here back in I think 2010? I came more recently in 2025 and it's just the same! I love the traditional poutine. The cheese, gravy, and fries are all good quality and the portion size is very fair for $10. I know many other people too who love trying all of the different sauces but for me the poutine will always be my order. It's nice too how the service is friendly and polite and the vibe is pretty chill. When it's not crowded it almost feels like you could be in a German or Belgian spot. When it's late and the drunk crowd, still a fun time but different. Definitely some of the best poutine I've ever had! Love this spot.

The poutine was massive. We ordered the bigger portion. A bit pricey but it's NYC. The cheese curds were still cold when we got our food but warmed up as we ate. Otherwise pretty good!

Pommes frites is a nostalgic place for me because we used to go back here in the day and I'm happy to say that in a city that has changed so much in the last decade, I still enjoy this frites place and their many fun sauces. There's a lot of sauces to tempt you but I personally feel a bit locked into the last 3 we got last time we went. The truffle mayo, Irish curry, and a third one I'm blanking on were all good.

Love love love this place! Every time I'm in the area, Pomme Frites is a must for me. What's not to love about French fries?? Even better is they make it fresh to order (piping hot!) and have a wide variety of sauces to choose from. This time, the sauces I got were the curry ketchup special, mango chutney and the sambal. Of these, I loved the curry ketchup. The flavor was more ketchup than curry but the mix of flavors made it special and I kept going back for that one. The mango chutney was a little heavy on the mayo for me ( I don't particularly love mayo). Third place was the sambal. I didn't think it went well with the fries. Overall- definitely one of my favorite snack places to frequent! I also love trying new sauces each time and figuring out what I love with my fries.

Love this fries shop! Food: the fries are delicious and big and very filling! We got the large fries to share with three sauces! My favorite sauce is the mango chutney! The Irish curry was good and so was the jalepeno cheddar! You can also get ketchup and mustard at no additional cost! I think the sauces make this place fun, so I'd def recommend getting some while you are here Service: fast service Ambience: it is this cool underground shop with ample seating

Really, no complaints about service. The food? We had some hits and some misses. The mussels were a hit and the portion was generous. The fries were great but some crusty French bread would have been a good addition, to help soak up the flavorful broth. The Merguez sandwich was a miss. Despite the menu stating that it was served on a baguette (and picture on Yelp of other diners receiving the sandwich on a baguette), ours was served on ciabatta. Really, not the same thing. We did not say anything at the time but we would not have ordered it had we known. Total disappointment. Also, the person on our party that ordered this sandwich found the fries way too salty. Luckily, the attentive staff kept the water refills flowing. I doubt we would return to this restaurant in the future the next time we're in the area, despite the friendly and attentive service.

Wow, how have I not reviewed one of my favorite go-to spots in NYC yet!!??…read more I have been going to BXL Cafe since the mid-2000's and make a point of hitting it every single visit to the city. The first time, we stumbled into it during a snowstorm, seeking shelter after visiting Time Square with a group of friends, one of whom was in the city with us for his very last trip on this earth. He was very sadly dying of cancer and dreamed of being able to go to NYC one last time. May he be resting in peace. On my last night in the city, I suggested to clients of mine that we hit BXL Cafe and they were all willing and ready. Like every other visit, the service, drinks and food were all fantastic so I'm surprised by some of the 3-star reviews because this place is fantastic. This was a Thursday night and the place was absolutely mobbed. It was a bit of a squeeze getting to the table I reserved in the back where I joined my clients/friends of many years. Our server was awesome, very attentive, friendly, and put up with us trying to hook up our one single buddy at the table that night. She suggested we start with the croquettes and even though I had been raving about the mussels, some in our party ordered other things. No clue why! The mussels are always amazing. My clients/friends did enjoy what they ordered. The croquettes were very tasty; I believe my favorite was the ham croquettes. I didn't quite care for the shrimp croquettes, I mean, if I had to pick in the future. My go-to has always been the Thailandaise Mussels with coconut milk, lemon grass and curry. This has always been so awesome, I never stray from it. Sooooo good and a massive portion in a big 'ol black pot served with crusty bread and a big portion of fries. I guess my only complaint would be that while the fries are good and crispy, they aren't the traditional double fried in duck fat fries of true Belgian Moules Frites eateries. My favorite in this true Belgian way is the fries served at Wurstkuche in L.A. (of all places). These fries are absolutely heavenly and I'd suggest BXL (and The Back Abbey in Claremont, CA) set up a conference call with Wurstkuche so they can perfect theirs. Still, BXL Cafe is an absolutely wonderful stop and well, the beer on tap and by the bottle is always fantastic and fresh. Long live BXL Cafe! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Side note...add the croissant to your order...

Buvette was able to accommodate me for an early dinner shortly after my arrival in New York,…read morespecifically the West Village. Buvette is one of five W. Village eateries helmed by power-chef duo Jody Williams and Rita Sodi; four are within a block of each other. I passed the other three (Bar Pisellino, Via Carota, I Sodi) on my way and all had lines out the door. Carota and Sodi are Italian, Buvette is French. There are 2 other Buvettes in Asia and one coming soon in London. Buvette does not do reservations. Buvette is a charming but tiny/cramped space, made more tiny within the last year by NYC's removal of pandemic-era street patios which greatly helped dining capacity. Buvette may sometimes have a few front sidewalk tables, and there's a tiny outdoor patio in the back. The tables and dishware are also tiny. There's a kitchen in the back, but some food is also prepared below the bar in front, where there seem to be some ovens. The food seems reliably consistent here. The menu is short but there are daily specials. I ordered a non-alcoholic ginger soda, crab tartine (a special), lobster a l'Americaine (lobster pot pie) and frites. The soda is always on the menu and is refreshing, with a nice snap of ginger. The crab tartine was fab, a fresh crab salad with avocado atop toast. The lobster pot pie was made in the under-bar oven, a small serving of lobster and veggies with a golden puff pastry topper. Delish. The frites were nicely crisp, served with an aioli. Service was okay, but my hot food took about 45 minutes to come out, apparently because my ticket was lost. Overall a pleasant meal, my first during this visit.

A "kid friendly" restaurant was not something I spent a lot of time thinking about in my past life…read more But now it's so important to find great restaurants that have high chairs and are accommodating to toddlers. Pastis definitely checks that box! This was my second time at Pastis and it was just as delicious as the first time. We got shrimp cocktail, oysters, tartar, leeks, calamari... the bread is so excellent I would have been happy eating that all night. We all split burgers 4 ways. The fries are a better version of McDonalds (the highest compliment). We also got the bar steak, trout, confit, and half chicken, Of course, the profiteroles for dessert. Do not skip these! Great martinis, great service - an awesome restaurant to visit in Meatpacking!

We ordered the duck confit, moules frites, and escargot. The escargot was flavorful and tender, served piping hot. I got a little impatient and burned my mouth, but it was worth it. The moules frites was also excellent. The mussels were cooked perfectly, and the light citrusy broth was so delicious that I almost wanted to ask for a spoon just to drink it. The duck confit was the only dish that fell a bit short for me. While the duck itself was cooked well, the flavor did not stand out much, and it was slightly too salty for my taste. Overall, a great spot with a fun atmosphere.

Winter Restaurant Week Review 1/6:…read more I went back to this popular Alsatian spot for Winter Restaurant Week a few days ago with a group, having gone there once before for Summer Restaurant Week, as per the previous review, and once otherwise to share a few plates during one of my usual group dinners. Compared to many other French spots, it is a bit more reasonably priced, at $45 instead of $60, and with no listed add-ons. The service was friendly enough, but we had a surprisingly quick meal for a French place, so I guess this Alsatian meal was more German than French, since we were in and out in around an hour. In terms of the daily offerings, as the menu online lists daily specials for the appetizer and main, the Soup Du Jour was vichyssoise, and the main was an Alsatian fish dish with green pesto and other things, which sounded unique, but I was in the mood for duck. I didn't bother with wine, though someone else had a glass, and for food, most of us stuck with the same dishes, except, I believe, someone got the trout instead of the choucroute. They gave us some crusty bread to begin with, which was warm and tasty. Most of us went with the Pétatou Gratine to start, consisting of a warm potato and Vermont goat cheese gratin, olive Niçoise, basil pesto, and a bouquet of mixed greens. The warm gratin was mildly salty taste with a mild goat cheese funk. and was pleasant. The olive and basil added some freshness. This was good, and a few of us used the remaining bread to soak up the remaining pesto. My main dish was the Choucroute De Canard with duck confit, duck sausage, steamed potatoes, Riesling braised sauerkraut, and natural duck jus. This version of Choucroute garnie was quite different from last year's offering, being entirely duck-focused, as per the word canard, rather than a mix of pork products. The sausage was mild, with a light snap and a pretty juicy interior. The best part was the confit, which was nicely crispy on the outside and very tender inside. The sauerkraut, as last year, is slightly sweeter than the typical German variety, as it is braised in Riesling and contains some juniper berries, which weren't the most pleasant to bite into. As last year, I was not a fan of the potatoes, as they were undercooked and still slightly hard. In general, I preferred it this year, as the duck was better than anything in last year's version, even if the dish was a bit less filling overall. For dessert, we all chose the Alsatian Brioche Mandiat with caramelized banana, coconut sorbet, and crème Anglaise. This was the highlight of the meal and was also a pastry I'd never had before. The laminated pastry dough had a light crisp and plenty of banana inside, with the sorbet being sweet but not too much. I expected the dish overall to be a bit too sweet from the combination, but thankfully it wasn't, as the buttery brioche presumably helped balance it. This was excellent, and I wouldn't mind buying a larger version for a party or something. If they charged $60 again, I probably would have reduced my rating to 4, especially given the service feeling a bit too rushed, even for my taste. However, at $45, I would still recommend them.
