I have eaten here a few times due to its close proximity to the office. This is a great place to go if you're looking for somewhere laid back to sit down and eat that has quick service. It's very no frills here; a sign reads "please seat yourself" when you enter. Both booths and tables are available to sit at as well as a counter with stools if you're eating solo. Service has been really quick each time I've come. They offer a wide variety of breakfast and lunch foods as well as specials. Food is always served quickly and comes out hot. Portions are good. I've gotten a veggie omelette here with home fries that was super good, and a hamburger and fries for lunch that was about average for a diner. That being said, i would definitely recommend this place more for breakfast or brunch than for lunch! read more

As the name would suggest, you will only be in love with this place if you truly are a Poor Boy. Those of us with any sense of propriety expect PBD to be exactly what it is: a so-so diner with so-so food and so-so service. I give it 3 stars only because it met my mediocre expectations without exceeding them, but also without coming too far shy of them either. Expectation 1: Open early -- it's a diner, after all. Open nice and early on a Sunday, we rolled in and were seated quickly. Expectation 2: Run-down (a little. Not too much or I start to worry about impending food poisoning). Just shabby enough to be truly diner-iffic, with weird bench seats in the booths that lean back against the wall, so when you sit you feel like you're way too far away from the table, dumpy wooden chairs, a-little-bit-off-center tables so they wobble just enough to spill your coffee. Nailed it. Expectation 3: Waitresses with attitudes that border JUST this side of professionally acceptable. These ladies could have written the book on appropriate diner waitress behavior. Friendly/sarcastic enough to be amusing, disinterested enough to work in a diner. Service definitely wasn't BAD, just diner-y. Expectation 4: Cheap $57 for 5 breakfasts. BOOM. Expectation 5: Cash only -- and this is one of those eye-roll expectations. Like, "UGHHH I know this place is a diner so it's gunna be cash only" PBD for the win. Takes cards! Although our waitress brought only one of two cards back to the table, and then called across the restaurant to us to say "OH! I STILL GOT YA CARD!" (see expectation #3). So -- this place is A-OK for a diner. My omelet was actually really tasty. My homefries were deep fried potato squares, more grease than tater, so I didn't eat much. Toast was good, coffee was good, price was good. Nothing to write home about, but I'd definitely go again on my way up North. read more

After having one of the best burgers I've eaten in a long while, and after deciding that the service here is top-notch it was time for a five-star rating. Once again, Stephanie, one of the best servers in the area (hope the management is taking note here), was our waitress and as always she anticipates what you need before you even know what you need. Making a good burger seems easy but there's a lot that can go wrong and it rarely goes wrong here. The bun is homemade and serves as a great base for a terrific burger. I ordered the southwest version and boy was it ever tasty. It looked so appealing that my bf immediately regretted his decision of tuna melt. Perfectly cooked at medium-rare, it was topped with jalapenos, tumbleweeds (thin onion rings), lettuce, tomato, and a spicy sauce. Perfection. There are few diners in the area that really deserve a five-star rating but Poor Boys has their act together. We had no less than three people helping to keep us happy and the restaurant was full (excellent service in a full restaurant is always a sign of a well-oiled service machine). Sorry to give this review but the truth sometimes is not what I would prefer. I stopped for lunch recently and was disappointed. I had a simple tuna sandwich with french fries. The fries would have been decent except that they had a bad odor. I can only guess that the cooking oil was old and made them smell bad. The sandwich was good but ALL items were overpriced! I noticed that even though it was lunch time the place was almost empty. My experience has shown me that most don't heed this type of review so that unfortunately they continue a downward spiral. The possibilities are good but unlikely. With restuarants to succeed I believe the very best that they can deliver at a competitive price is needed to succeed. I sat at the bar (4 seats), and after 10 minutes of being told that "i'll be right over" i just got up and go my own menu. We always see a lot of people at the diner when we ride the Londonderry Trail, so thought we'd give it a try this morning after our bike ride. We were seated within 10 minutes, given drinks and placed our order within another 10 minutes which was 8:30am. The waitresses have no personality and do not communicate with their customers, by 9:05am my friend inquired about our food, at which point the waitress in a bright yellow shirt went off about there only being 2 cooks and we would be fed shortly. Our meal arrived at 9:15am and at no time were we offered additional beverages or apologized to for having to wait 45 minutes for eggs and bacon! I have never been treated so rudely and waited so long for a mediocre breakfast. I will not be back. I would give it zero stars! read more

You'll find the unassuming Poor Boy's breakfast to be pretty good, however, it is no different from anything you could make on your own. Just a personal thing: I usually like to order things I wouldn't or couldn't make on my own and can't do that here. If I was footing the bill I'd just stay home and eat a bowl of cereal. Obviously as goes with diner's the food here is very down to earth and lackluster. That said, the menu is rather large and the prices are cheap. I recommend getting an omelet or burger, I especially like the "wild thing burger" that comes with BBQ sauce and caramelized onions. Poor Boy's was recently renovated and is a lot less of a dump than it used to be. It is usually clean and not too awfully loud. I don't understand the big deal about other reviews mentioning the waitstaff being loud, they're not that bad, and coming from me that says something. I appreciate the plentiful booth seating. When every other place is booked for weekend breakfasts I never have a problem finding a seat or two at this place. read more

Food is always on point. There is one waitress here that ruins the experience everytime. She always brings the check while we are still eating without asking if we would like anything else. She never checks back in with our table after taking our order. Every time we have her when we are here it is a very frustratinf experience. The other waitresses end up getting our table any drink refills and whatever we need. I feel like she should give her tips to the orher waitresses because theyre the ones that actually do the work. Also, we just asked her to split our check into 3, since there are 3 couples and she told us to write down what we all had on the back of the 1 check. Can i choose to do no stars? Your waitresses are rude as hell. I had a party of 7 that is including a 7 month old baby girl. I checked in, my mother checked in, my wife checked in and the last time my wife was told "you called over an hour ago" no honey i called over an hour ago to see if you had room we had been sitting outside for 45 minutes while parties of 4-5-6 were going in and not coming out. When i checked in again you said "well im not going to come out looking for you" no kidding and we wernt expecting that but poke your head out the door and let us know atlease then you could see we were sitting out in the rain with a7 month old baby wrapped in a blanket so you wouldnt have to "look around for us". drove back to Massachusetts and ate there we may be Massholes but we treat people way better than that. Very clean restaurant. Server was great, attentive and cheerful. My only one disappointment- the hash browns are not the typical Grilled Potatoes, they are deep fried. I love good hash browns as they are so time consuming to make at home so I always order them when I do go out to breakfast. But it is a big no-no for them to be deep fried. Still love this place but had to let people who work there know that the staff on Wednesday night this week is the worst. We went in anticipating a normal above average experience as always. There were 2 cars in the parking lot and only 2 parties in the restaurant. As it is a "seat yourself" establishment, we sat in our usual booth. And we sat, and we sat. A waitress brought the check to another party, looked at us and went off in the other direction. And we sat, and we sat. Same waitress comes back, gets some items from a station, looks at us and walks away. Needless to say, we walked away too. Left the restaurant with no one saying a word to us in the entire 15 minutes we were there. You have the makings of a great place.....we love the atmosphere and the food. Inexpensive, fast and well-prepared are the hallmarks of this local favorite. I've been a customer here for many years and am rarely even slightly disappointed. Their breakfasts are HUGE. Big stacks of fluffy pancakes, tremendous crispy waffles, expertly poached Eggs Benedict with homemade sauce (my usual) and large, over stuffed omelets. All are great and well worth the trip. For lunch and dinner their meals are again inexpensive and filling. One of my favorites is their classic Patty Melt -- a tasty, juicy burger, grilled with lots of onions and served in between two pieces of grilled rye. Mmmm, mmmm. They have delicious regular burgers, a good selection of deli sandwich "standards" and usual diner plates like fish and chips, steaks, seafood and pasta. The staff is always friendly and efficient -- with just enough "Diner" attitude to make it fun. The only negative I can come up with is that the waiting line on Sunday mornings can often be out the door. But it's worth it. read more

We have been here several times. Tried it today for a late lunch. My husband had the chicken Parm sandwich special with onion rings and I have a lobster roll with fries. He said his sandwich was pretty good and the onion rings were excellent. My lobster roll was superb. My girlfriend had some scrambled eggs with toast hash browns and bacon. All was cooked well except the scrambled eggs were a little dry. This was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. We waited 20 minutes before being even looked at (we were first in line), 10 more minutes to be sat. In that time the waitress yelled rudely at the people behind us to "close the door it's hot out" even though there is a double door. We finally sat down and when our food came out it was completely wrong. My fiancé ordered poached eggs and after the 3rd delivery of finally poached eggs they were completely hard. My pancakes were burnt. The food was disgusting, the staff was mean and miserable and the same breakfast we ordered is half the price at Mary Ann's diner down the street.
